Re: Talking Point: With Prices Rising, Are Your Gaming Habits Changing?

Notsoavid

Um the extra $10 US for a new game isn't the primary problem for me. Too many ‘must play’ games out there and too few leisure hours in a week is my struggle. I play Nintendo games and a select set of others (usually Atlus) because I have to prioritize time, and I am rarely - if ever disappointed by a Nintendo published game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (3rd May)

@AstroTheGamosian There are a few systems that I haven’t really exploited yet - like insert creation for example. I get the impression that maximizing stats becomes more of a issue when your goal is to beat some of the super high level world monsters.

I did recently discover that if you have heavy skells for your whole level 30 team, you can beat certain enemies at a significantly higher level if you plan out damage (like Ganglion are generally weak against laser). I just leveled 5 levels in about 30 minutes on the outskirts or Fort Jair.

I also played on the WiiU but honestly it was my first Xenoblade game and I had no idea what I was doing- so I didnt get very far

Re: Star Wars Outlaws Is Coming To Nintendo Switch 2

If it’s giving xbox and pc troubles, I wouldn’t describe it as a “technical powerhouse”, but rather a ‘technical tyrant’. Games are meant to be played on devices - whether console or PC. If it isn’t easily running on either, then the game is the problem and needs to be brought in line with the platform.

Re: Final Fantasy 9 Remake Hopes Rise As Square Enix Teases Anniversary Projects

Notsoavid

This is one of my favorite FF games so naturally I'm excited. The art style of this game doesn't really lend itself to hyper realistic graphics though, so I don't personally need the AAA monetary investment here. Just give me something of quality that looks better than I remember it. FFVIII remaster just felt so lazy and looked little better than a straight PS1 port - warts and all.

Re: Nintendo Showcases Every Switch Direct Game In New Infographic

Notsoavid

I was initially disappointed by this direct - probably because I wasn’t excited for the 1st party game reveals. However, in retrospect, there were several games that I am absolutely interested in. Aside from the big hitters like Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon, I’m a huge AI: The somnium files fan, the Raidou game looked good, and I’m definitely interested in the Shadow Labyrinth game.

Re: Rumour: A Switch 1 Direct Presentation May Take Place This Week

Notsoavid

An indie showcase actually would make sense sort of. An article on this website, back in October said that Nintendo would reportedly lean on third parties for switch support in 2025. While the timing is a little strange, it does seem reasonable that announcements for switch 1 games would need to be made for indie developers.

Re: Sakurai Says Japanese Developers Should Avoid Trying To Appeal To Western Tastes

Bahahaha my friends and I have been saying this to each other for YEARS. Give me the Japanese-ness of your games. It’s what I crave.

I know there was some discussion a few years ago around JRPG being something of a derogatory term in the industry - and that always baffled me because I always associated that title with my favorite games.

Japan, please gift us with your most authentic self. Don’t change to try to make us like you more. We already do.

Re: Poll: What Switch Game Could You Not Live Without?

Notsoavid

@Mirastrix I see your point. KT’s recent collaborations have moved pretty far from the Musou genre and into a hybrid action rpg genre. I do agree with the performance of Fate Samurai/Remnant’s on switch - it didnt run well. Despite your dislike of Age of Calamity I would definitely say that it didn’t err in the way of move-set clones though. Each combattant felt pretty unique. Lots of cut scenes though, and the divine beast missions were kinda meh.

Re: New Nintendo Patent Hints At Improved Voice Chat On Switch 2

Notsoavid

@Haruki_NLI I’m not trolling, but I am Discord-phobic - so I use console chat with the rare human being still using it on my other game console. Every Discord that I’ve joined is full of people using a litany of abbreviations and terminology that I don’t understand. I find it intimidating and frustrating to use. I may just be an old man, but console chat is what works for me. So I find this upgrade important

Re: Opinion: We Need More Couch Co-op RPGs

Notsoavid

I have 2 young children and completely unreliable gaming availability. I desperately want to play with other people, but unfortunately that usually breaks down to playing Monster Hunter or other games with a more closed gameplay loop so that I can be available at predictable times. I miss couch coop so badly. I have some amazing memories playing Crystal Chronicles with my friends.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Donkey Kong Country Returns HD?

Notsoavid

Im very much enjoying it, but the 8/10 I gave it feels weird. There just isn’t enough new about this game to feel like I’m rating a new game. Im just really rating the original. Im not a graphics person at all, so the HD upgrade doesn’t really impress me much. So, bravo you uncredited developers at Retro!

Edit: a previous edition of my post gave credit to Rare.

Re: Opinion: Nintendo Needs To Let Us Block The Crap On Switch 2's eShop

Notsoavid

I agree and disagree. I agree with the problem, but I just think the solution is that Nintendo should take a bigger role in promoting “real” games to the top of searches, sales, new releases, etc. And if you REALLY want to go mud larking in the depths of the E shop for the perfect ecchi puzzle it will be there waiting.

Re: Best Mario RPGs Of All Time

Notsoavid

I feel like the remakes of TTYD and Super Mario RPG are close enough in fidelity to the original that they don’t require separate rankings, but that’s just my opinion.
