This is excellent, and I would consider it...if it didn't cost $5! That's the same price as buying Among Us on its own on platforms where it isn't just free!
So you have to consume rare cards to trade...your rare cards? That you may not have duplicates of after you consume them to get the currency to trade them?
Me and my brothers are going to jump on Discord and play through Sonic Adventure DX on Steam for a bit - we all live different places, so it'll be nice to just spend time together. Might break out SongPop for a game night with my girlfriend and her roommates. Other than that, just got Battle Plugs in Brothership, so I'll be taking those for a spin and maybe trying Sutte Hakkun.
It's so fascinating to see Ubisoft get reduced from an industry giant to this almost pitiable figure in so short a time. I don't usually buy their stuff, but I got Lost Crown from that Best Buy sale last month and it's stellar so far - it's a shame that team and its employees seem to have an uncertain future.
If I had to pick 8 games, I'd go BoTW, Mario Kart 8, Animal Crossing, TTYD Remake, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2 and Super Mario 3D All-Stars. I have only played 2 of these in any significant capacity, but I think they're all pretty synonymous with the highs (and some of the lows) of the Switch.
You don't have one game I'm sure to be playing in your database: Just Dance Disney Party for Wii (the first one). I'm giving that, plus the second one and NSMBWii, to my mom for Christmas after picking them up from thrift stores. I'll also be sure to fire up Pac-Man World 2, which I got from my retro game store a while back but which I couldn't play due to not having a backwards-compatible Wii (the parents' house does). And Pokémon TCG Pocket and MK8DX are likely holiday picks too.
I'd like to be optimistic and say I'm getting Brothership for Christmas, but I'm already over 5 games anyway! Merry Christmas and happy holidays from a just-landed plane, everyone!
I saw this first game had a 9.3 in user ratings on Metacritic. Turns out that four of the five reviews were the only reviews left by their respective accounts and all five were left within two days of each other. That probably tells you all you need to know about this publisher.
After debating just plowing through Pokémon Black 2, I chose to switch my main game I'm playing to The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, which I snagged on the Xbox 360 store before it closed. The gameplay isn't great, and I kinda despise Sparx, but I'm hooked by the high fantasy tone and GameCube-era aesthetics.
Only played three games that came out this year: Animal Well, Penny's Big Breakaway, and Pokémon TCG Pocket. And of those, my GOTY was Penny! It's got a great, fun atmosphere and tight controls that make flying through levels fun and exciting. I played it on PC, though; I played Animal Well on Switch. It's an excellent experience as well, though I won't pick it back up for a while, I think.
EDIT: I also played Toree's Panic Pack. It was fun but not a GOTY contender.
Last year it was the indie game controversy, this year it's DLCs. I wonder how much of the reasoning behind these decisions is just to stir up conversation and make this ceremony feel relevant.
I'll be so busy with a church conference this weekend that I probably won't have any time at all for games! But yesterday my local game store was doing a buy-2-get-1-free deal on used games, so I picked up the Pac-Man World 2/Pac-Man Vs. 2-pac(k) on GameCube alongside World 3 and Glory of Heracles on DS. I booted up the latter two, for a brief moment, so I guess those count?
Would be better if I could buy the music outright, but I'm not canceling my family subscription anytime soon so I'm pretty excited. Even as limited as the selection is at launch, they picked some good stuff to put up there.
I'm a little disappointed in the change in Amy's characterization, but I don't think all changes like this are objectively bad. It'd be nice if the original version of the game was still easily accessible, though, or if there was a toggle for the original dialogue.
I've made it to the last world of Penny's Big Breakaway on PC, gonna try to finish that today. If my girlfriend's down for it, I might boot up Mario Party 2 on NSO and play on Horror Land to encourage the light spooky vibes.
"It's believed the company is more likely using open source emulators"
I guess? But where's the evidence? I bet it's also believed, by someone out there, that they built their own emulator. It feels so weird to link to a random person's tweet as if it's evidence of a claim when it's clearly just an opinion.
@YoshiAngemon I guess I worded my comment confusingly? I did indeed set an alarm for 14 hours from now. I appreciate you trying to spare me disappointment, though
I feel like all the slots will be taken in the first 5 minutes. I guess the 5-day timeframe is just to play it safe? Or maybe I'm overestimating the number of people who meet these criteria and are actually interested. Either way, I've got an alarm set for two minutes before the application opens now, hope everyone who wants to participate is able to!
At first I thought "Oh, for $20 it seems a little steep, but kinda fun." That was my max price.
$100? Who are they kidding? And that's not even considering the possibility they use this to sell sleep data, which I wouldn't bet against.
EDIT: Looks like I should not bet, as the product page specifies that "Alarmo does not communicate any information to Nintendo." Still not sure why I'd pay $100 for this, but maybe it's not as nefarious as I first suspected.
@LightyKD I think the user you're replying to was actually saying that Nintendo Life was wrong and it's actually rated E10+, which is true according to the current ESRB page. Not sure if Liam just misread it or if it changed since this article went live.
Lots of people in the comments talking about holding a new entry hostage behind everyone buying rereleases, which is a valid criticism, but...didn't this quote say the exact opposite? Matsumoto said that commercial achievement (I read that as sales) isn't as important as fan support.
Now, whether or not that's true (or how one shows support for a game without just buying it) is worth questioning, but he isn't saying "buy this game or there won't be a new one."
Not sure what the hate is about, it's a minute-long teaser that shows off the aesthetic. That's about it. I thought it looked fine, though I've never been a huge Minecraft fan anyway.
I am in awe of the number of people in these comments who don't at least understand why licking Switch carts is a question. No judgment, but this was a huge thing when the Switch launched, it baffles me that people don't remember or know about it.
I just got my 360 last year, got it running this year, and played through 06. Despite how awful it is, I can't help but love it - I have a lot of nostalgia for the 4Kids cast, having played all of the Wii games with them in it and watching a lot of Sonic X. And it plays similarly to Adventure 2 rather than boost-style. And the plot is just so over-the-top, the cutscenes are hilariously bad, the loading and glitches are comical, and the music is incredible (except that old-timey side mission theme).
I had a great time with it, so the more references to it with a solid game engine, the better.
@SillyG Hmm, that makes sense, it's just weird that it gets T with the only descriptor (for the ESRB rating, anyway) being "Mild Violence." Like, at that rating I'm expecting the "mild" to be gone or for it to have swears or blood in it. I guess we'll see tomorrow, though!
Building a competitive team in Scarlet, then Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 with any extra time I've got, since I finally picked it up in the Humble Bundle
I liked pretty much everything in the presentation except Shovel of Hope DX. The DLCs look neat, Mina looks excellent, the marketing stuff is...whatever, everyone using their Nintendo Direct voices was funny. But Shovel of Hope DX should be sold as a discounted DLC for the base game on platforms you can already buy the base game on (and to be fair, they haven't said this won't be the case). When I watched it I couldn't help thinking that it looks pretty much the same as it did when I bought it eight years ago on my 3DS, new playable characters aside.
Edit: forgot to mention the game jam they announced too. I'm not a dev, but I've always been interested, and this could be a good excuse to try it out.
I already have Monopoly on Switch, and even if it didn't run less-than-perfectly and wasn't bugged (the one game I played skipped turns when someone went bankrupt, I noticed it twice in our six-player game) and let you switch your controller setup when you resumed a saved game, it would still be inferior to playing on a physical board.
I recently got a 360 and played through 06. Man, that game had so much potential. If they fixed the many bugs and general brokenness of the controls, it could be stellar.
But it'll never happen, and I'm fine with that. Generations is still sitting unplayed in my Steam library, along with the other games that were in the Sonic Humble Bundle from a few years back. I would only want a remaster for accessing the games I can't already play - so Heroes or Shadow.
Feels so weird to have the franchise that directly competed against Breath of the Wild on the same machine seven years later. Looks like it could be pretty neat.
SmileBoom is the developer of Petit Computer/SmileBASIC if I remember correctly. I wonder if they'd be working with NDCube on some coding project along the lines of Game Builder Garage.
