I just started playing this one a few days ago, and while I consider myself a little more on the patient side, I'm not sure it needs a remake. Sure, I died a dozen or so times before beating the first dungeon, but it's not like it was that hard to get back to wherever I was exploring. It felt a bit like playing Hollow Knight for the first time in that way.
I'm not saying a remake wouldn't work well, but it's not one that badly needs one, I think.
Glad to see the Pocket Dungeon DLC is still on its way, I was wondering about it. Other than that, solid presentation overall, Crime O'Clock looks neat
They're using your location data and selling it to big tech companies so they can sell ads more effectively. They don't get the data they want if you can raid from home. Simple as that.
There are two free themes in the Theme Shop! Now that that's over with, yeah, my 3DS saw me through my senior year of high school. I took it to my first (and currently only) Pokémon VGC tournament in college. I have loads of memories of Pokémon, Smash, SmileBASIC, Metroid, Mega Man 2, WarioWare, Picross, and StreetPass. Sad to see the eShop go, but I'm sure I'll enjoy this thing for years to come!
Yeah, to me this whole thing is starting to feel more and more like a joke by the devs themselves. Unfortunately, the game being broken makes the joke in poor taste.
Order Up granting a stat boost when blocked is a bug? They fooled me. That had not-insiginifcant meta implications and they left it in this whole time?
Unlike in every other Pokemon game, in Legends: Arceus, your fainted Pokemon still accumulate EVs when an opposing Pokemon is knocked out. (This is despite - or perhaps because of - the fact that EVs don't do anything in this game.)
Much of my gaming life has been dominated by Pokémon this year, but between Halloween and ScarVio coming out, I put time into Dicey Dungeons. Loads of fun, and I gotta get around to playing it more.
I figured this one out and had a good time with it - there's no Pokémon Center very close to where you execute the exploit, so it was fun to try not to white out by catching new Pokémon. But yeah, you can't enter the Gyms until you go to school. (Which is probably a good thing, actually, since you could risk breaking the game by getting badges and then maybe having them reset when you do go to school.) Anyway, guess I'd better stop skipping and actually advance the plot.
You've pointed to a number of reviews that give new details about gameplay without spoiling a ton of the story. I'm trying to avoid story and new 'mon spoilers, so to get new details like this is excellent! Thanks for the roundup!
Theme naming is always fun! I've recently started not nicknaming every Pokémon I catch - mostly because I'm not sure if I'll use it or not - but if I do use it, I'm nicknaming it.
The video didn't actually say anything about improving your Pokémon's stats with this feature, just restoring HP. It did say it might give you special bonuses like getting more experience from battles or catch certain kinds of Pokémon more easily - like Pass Powers or O-Powers from Gens V and VI rather than anything that directly boosts stats.
Never thought that Ed Sheeran and Toby Fox would be on the same OST, but here we are.
Also, can't wait for Ed to be a Gym Leader with a concert before your battle with him but there still isn't voice acting (cough cough PIERS cough cough)
These look incredible. But they also reminded me of y'all playing it for Backlog Club, and I just realized I haven't seen one of those articles since the Portal one last month. I hope they're just on a temporary hiatus - they were fun to read, even if I didn't participate often.
The Battle Team feature was already part of the VS menu in Sword and Shield - it was not exclusive to the Battle Tower. I was able to put in a rental code as soon as VS opened up, before beating the first Gym. Maybe that was part of one of the DLC updates?
@rjejr I did the closed beta and the game was very much playable. The only errors I encountered were crashes from the menu, and given the sorry state of my cheap computer, I can hardly blame the game for that. I am confused by the lack of a solid date too, but the game as it was in June runs well and is solid and fun. I guess it's possible they're having trouble with porting it to Switch, but the Switch runs games better than my PC, so I kinda doubt it.
I played the closed beta on Steam and had some good fun with it. The music on the tracks is all techno remixes of classic Disney songs, the track design was neat, and the the overall gameplay was smooth and fun. There was a decent amount of grind to get upgrade materials for characters, but I was able to win races for which I was about two levels under the recommended level. I am still very optimistic about it, but I do hope they tone down the grind a bit.
This wasn't just a fantastic Mini, it was a great Direct in general. I absolutely lost my mind when I realized I was seeing a Pac-Man World remaster, Battle Network has always intrigued me, this is the best look at Sonic Frontiers yet, Ellen McClain as GLaDOS was a nice touch, that notebook RPG looks so cute...And then there's Persona and NieR and Sparks of Hope. Seriously a strong presentation, even if I did skip some of the footage of stuff we've seen before.
I vowed that a remaster of the full trilogy would be a day one purchase for me. And while this isn't that, it's certainly a start! Definitely the biggest surprise of the Direct for me, I'm grabbing it day one.
Good review, but I had to make sure I was reading the line about Mario not being in a lot of sports games correctly. He's had an entire series about tennis, a whole game about basketball, and other games containing horse racing, dodgeball, hockey, and volleyball, and that's not even counting the Mario & Sonic Olympic games with dozens of sports each, so to say he hasn't played a lot of sports or had a lot of sports games is...a little odd, you know?
Bought the game on discount a few weeks ago and have really been enjoying it. It was definitely weird when I realized there were no items, so good on them for listening to feedback! And voice acting will be great as well.
@EriXz This game was originally supposed to be an extra mode for the original, it was in the Kickstarter campaign as a stretch goal. With that in mind, it makes sense to say "We're keeping our Kickstarter promises, we just decided to fulfill this one with a separate game" rather than remain silent on it for five years.
@PBandSmelly I noticed that too. IIRC, before this Sega claimed they just hopped between a planet with humans and a planet without humans depending on the game. This explanation makes way more sense, even though this is a bizarre way to establish canon!
