Re: Soapbox: The Games Industry Needs To Give Up On Exclamation Marks!

Mz3player

Fun article, I disagree. Others have mentioned that it conveys excitement in Japanese, and I'd like to mention one more example: Doki Doki Literature Club! To me, the exclamation point immediately implies excitement in a Japanese way, which I believe is the intention, since it's actually an American game. I cringe thinking about some of those titles sometimes, but I think the punctuation still says something important about the game.

And the Nintendo examples you mentioned all feel fine as they are - "Showtime!" is usually said as a one-word exclamation in English anyway. It feels natural.

Re: Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 Now Reportedly Has An "Actual Cartridge" Release

Mz3player

@DogDetective The whole game got delayed a week for extra polish. Some people in the community think that the Switch cart release got delayed further as a result of that delay. Either way, it was only a month tops between initial release and the cart (someone in the game's Discord sent a picture of the cart a month ago) - odds are they always intended to launch with a cart until some logistical issue convinced them to go code-in-box first.

Re: Is Dave The Diver An Indie Game? The Game Awards' Host Weighs In

Mz3player

I think there is something valuable to be said about an "indie feel." But is TGA's goal to highlight outstanding "indie-feel" games or to highlight outstanding games made without large amounts of financial backing? Are we celebrating a genre that evokes a mood, or are we celebrating less-privileged devs who beat the odds?

If they want to do an "indie-feel" category in the future, they totally should - I like quite a few indie-feel games - but Dave the Diver isn't an indie game.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Like To See More Streaming Media Apps On 'Switch 2'?

Mz3player

I use YouTube on my phone most, then my computer, then my Switch...so not essential, I suppose, but I really do enjoy watching some Pokémon VGC matches on a bigger screen in bed or at the table every once in a while. I'd love for Disney+ to come too.

I guess I'm just assuming Nintendo goes for another hybrid console next - it feels like a given but hasn't actually been confirmed, and if it's not, I doubt I'll see a need for streaming apps on it.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Most Difficult Mainline Mario Game?

Mz3player

I voted for SMB2, but only because I knew most everyone else would vote for Lost Levels (which I agree with). I enjoyed some of SMB2 but gave up on it a while back, probably around the ice world.

I'm proud to say I've beaten the Perfect Run in SMG2, though. Extremely predictable and difficult is my kind of challenge level, I think.

Re: Internal Xbox Email Details Desire To Acquire Nintendo

Wild that he thinks Nintendo's future exists "off their own hardware." If this were ever to actually happen, I think any console produced would be Nintendo-branded with Nintendo-like innovation and maybe Xbox's power - certainly not an Xbox that just happens to play Nintendo games with a standard controller.

Re: Exclusive: El Tigre Is The Newest Fighter Slashing Into Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2

@JeanPaul There are enough mechanical differences that the devs essentially built a new game. Lots of reworking of mechanics - for example, last game had only three specials and aerial attack directions (neutral, up, and down - grounded attacks also had dash as a "direction"), air dashing instead of air dodging, no sidestep dodging, and you couldn't roll dodge except out of a tech. The biggest one is that last game had digital directional inputs - as in, you only ever move one speed no matter how much you move the Control Stick (made dash attacks tricky to pull off and, for my money, is maybe the biggest turn-off for people who come from a Smash background).

This game changes all the things I just mentioned to be a lot closer to Smash - 4 specials, 5 aerial directions, rolling and sidestep dodging, etc. Plus it adds the Slime Meter, including both super moves and all the other stuff it adds to the game.

Re: Review: Pokémon Sleep - A Snore-Fest In Mostly The Right Ways

"This process repeats every day until Monday morning when, at the start of every week, your Snorlax will then leave and you have to start again with a new Snorlax which has different meal tastes and preferred berries. Essentially, you're starting from scratch but with increased ranks, improved dishes and upgraded Helper Pokémon, which helps speed up the process and makes tasks easier each week..."

So it's a roguelite? Pokemon Sleep is a roguelite.
