I suppose the CMA has never heard of Panic Button or Saber...
Sure, you can't get a shot-for-shot experience. That wasn't what Brad Smith was saying. What Brad Smith was saying was, much like the ports we've seen from Panic Button and Saber, the gameplay quality is going to be compromised, but the amount of content available will remain the same.
Nintendo joining Gamescom is not actually that surprising. They've usually most of these events, though usually to promote pre-existing titles or host Indie World Showcases.
@YoshiF2 Nintendo considers Tri Force Heroes to be mainline, and while it never got a sequel (it'd be a bit early for one), the game itself is a direct sequel to A Link Between Worlds, featuring the same Link.
@YoshiF2 But that's exactly my point. There are Zelda games out there that are even less like Zelda, but people either don't know or refuse to admit it.
Breath of the Wild is much closer to a traditional Zelda game than the likes of Tri Force Heroes. All of the features that are included in a Zelda game are in BotW, but re-ordered, re-purposed, and they no longer bar progression besides getting out of the Great Plateau.
How do you justify playing the Genesis version of Street Fighter 2 when the 6-button controller is exclusive to certain regions? More importantly, why would you play the Genesis version when you could get either the 30th Anniversary Collection containing multiple versions of Street Fighter 2, or get Ultra Street Fighter 2 if you want the "most updated" experience?
I had a feeling this game was going to end its service the moment Overwatch went free-to-play. That was the whole incentive to playing Paladins originally, not to mention different balancing, but I suppose it was a matter of time before it lost to its main competitor, despite coming to the Switch much earlier.
I wonder who maintains the standards of how credits are being written. A lot of these mistakes seem to come out of lack of research or any consistent standards being set.
The rule of thumb should be that for any remaster, every bit of text and logos, save for those that need fixing and updating, should be copy and pasted in the process. An additional credits sequence to include the new staff is more ideal. This is exactly what has been done for the 3D and HD remasters before Skyward Sword HD. This is what they should continue doing nonetheless.
@Shadowmoon522 Discord provides a platform for people to communicate in. They have laid out clear terms of service and a privacy policy that effectively allows them to take action on anyone using their platform if it is deemed illegal and/or dangerous. Discord wrote the rules, and the leaker(s) broke said rules. Nintendo is asking for them to disclose information, because it was a situation involving illegal activity.
Call of Duty will only run on the Switch if all of the developers pull their s@&t together and start looking into compression for one thing. That's one thing that has been plaguing every platform, but I think Microsoft signing a legally-binding agreement with Nintendo is justification for that to happen.
Contrary to what this article says, Fortnite has evolved from being an absolute glitchy mess to a beautiful work of art on the Switch. It still suffers from slightly washed out colours and a poor draw distance, but it's performing much smoother than most games on Unreal Engine 4 and 5.
That being said, the article also acknowledges the amount of resources poured into bringing both Ori games to the Switch in an almost near-identical condition. The development took a lot of time and money, but Microsoft was willing to spend that much, so imagine Call of Duty.
The reasoning behind Modern Warfare 2's absence is incorrect. It was actually due to Treyarch devoting 100% of their resources towards Black Ops, including the staff responsible for the Wii ports. Those resources led to a somewhat excellent port of Black Ops with the sacrifice of Modern Warfare 2.
You could clearly tell based on the number of compensational changes made for the Wii port; many of the campaign sequences and segments of the Zombies mode were altered entirely that changed up the gameplay and fit within reason for the Wii's hardware. The game wasn't anywhere as messy as the other Wii entries and really had this polish that no other ports had.
@Mgalens What I wish they could do with Pokémon is take the Zelda approach. Have big, major games be developed for a reasonable and realistic amount of time, and then release smaller minor (and still mainline) games in between.
@Yosher @westman98 I definitely think Nintendo was pretty upset about Scarlet and Violet. After all, they were the ones who publicly apologized about the game's performance issues, not The Pokémon Company.
@PikaPhantom This is largely due to the existence of Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart, contributing towards the crossover of Nintendo characters. This is especially looking towards Subspace Emissary.
Better late than never, but like... how much money did consumers have to waste to get something that other regions had for free, YEARS earlier than Europe?
I'm glad this article draw a lot of comparisons to Summer Games Fest. The two concepts are very similar, but the difference is that Geoff actually realizes the costly nature of setting up such a huge marketing event, so he took advantage of digital platforms, and now he's ultimately won against the ESA.
I was an avid supporter of E3, but I think with Geoff's more publisher-friendly approach to an online video game convention, Summer Games Fest is bound to replace E3 entirely.
The Fuse mechanic is ultimately going to change the entire meta of the game. We aren't gonna be running around, constantly picking up new weapons and using them all almost identically. When the base combat changes, nearly the entire game changes. If this is something people aren't realizing yet, then they better rethink that.
A lot of this couldn't have been done as DLC. Remember, Breath of the Wild was obligated to remain as a Wii U game, so game development has to take the Wii U's restrictions as a priority.
@Tasuki Because Nintendo Life wants to keep that partnership intact, so it is their responsibility to inform both the reader and the companies that this article is solely a news article and not an opinionated one.
The reputation of emulation will always be tarnished by piracy for as long as Nintendo makes continue to make the games scarce and the prices of physical games continue to inflate.
@tee-cup I think the overall approach for this is more of a passive-aggressive gesture against Nintendo's decision rather than legitimate preservation.
What's even more interesting is PAX East lines up with the number of days left for a final trailer to be released, if Nintendo were to remain consistent with the number of days left before BotW.
@TDCinFL You'd be incredibly naive to consider the Switch as an 8th gen console. But that completely ignores the fact that inflation is a very real thing, and like every other product out there, whether it's food, essentials, non-essentials, electricity, or whatever, prices will increase and video games are no exception to that.
This is where the 33% Nintendo stake ultimately fails. The Pokémon Company has already done a lot of things that Nintendo normally would disapprove of, and if TPC decided to go into blockchain, that's gonna be one helluva big issue.
Smash 4 Wii U arguably felt more like a party game than Smash Brawl, with the inclusion of Smash Tour as well as the introduction of 8-player Smash and amiibo. Everything in the game felt extremely casual, and it suffered from the obligated drawbacks of the 3DS version.
Smash Melee is incredibly overrated, and I think it's rather important to note that players are still largely supportive of a non-final release of the game that actually has more bugs and glitches with some characters rendered useless or broken. Everything that sets up the competitive field is based entirely on nostalgia of certain characters and the larger population of players being from North America.
@pspooky Ah yes... the game continues to bear the "Mario Kart 8" name, but it has been altered dramatically to the point of playing very differently from its original Wii U counterpart where the name originated.
However, said alterations arguably make up the true vision from the development team and what they would believe to be "Mario Kart 8" in its progressively realized form.
@mikegamer Pokémon fans will be Pokémon fans. They don't have as high of a standard as mainstream Nintendo.
For as long as people keep eating up Pokémon merchandise, the games will continue to stagger in quality, especially for Nintendo standards. When you hear Nintendo apologizing and not TPC, it means this is a real problem.
@Serpenterror In retrospect, it became more of a detriment to aim with two buttons once you look at the controls from Samus Returns/Dread, both of which are on consoles with more buttons. The limitations of the GBA ultimately made the gameplay feel much faster paced.
