Re: Famicom Detective Club Is Getting A Collector's Edition In Japan

Mario_maniac

@BenAV Looking into that further, yeah, you're not wrong. Thanks for getting me to rethink that. I thought I read elsewhere it'd be cheaper for NA audiences but it works out about the same for us — better, when we consider our tax is always included in the final price.

Overall I just want a physical release over download — hopefully we hear news sooner or later.

Re: Mini Review: Macbat 64 - A Pitifully Weak Clone Of Those N64 Platformers You Know And Love

Mario_maniac

@StardusterEX Nah, I was creeped out by those first two bonus areas too. I actually recommended my sister get the game for my nephew and niece as it seems like a great introductory platformer game, but then... the music and atmosphere is gonna freak them out.

The very last level though seems a great tribute to Metroid and makes me wonder what could have been if there was a N64 Metroid game. A little cameo halfway through makes it clear that was what the devs were going for (as well as the final sequence) and I loved that.

Re: Paper Mario Producer Says It's No Longer Possible To Modify Mario Characters

Mario_maniac

Honestly, that seems like a cop-out to me. Goombella, Koops, Bow, Lakilester... all iconic characters to many of us. Goomba, Koopa Troopa, Boo, Lakitu... sure, they’re more recognisable, but bland. And then there are the likes of the Shadow Sirens and Flurrie — we’ve not seen designs like those before and now they’re saying we never will again?

How can game designers be so arrogant about what it is their audience should be given? They know unique characters and designs go well, so... what’s their actual excuse for ignoring us?

Re: Nintendo Reveals Rarity Of Character And Kart Unlocks In Mario Kart Tour

45 rubies gives one 10 chances of unlocking something. 48 rubies usually costs AU$41.99 (and whatever your equivalent currency is). That gives you a 1 in 10 chance of getting Pauline, or 3% chance of Musician Mario — and they’re limited time, from my understanding.

I get that it’s free to play, but Nintendo really needs to rework the cost of rubies and/or overhaul the shop to let people buy the character they want, otherwise I hope people stick to not spending anything.

Re: Dry Bowser Takes To The Court In Mario Tennis Aces, New Trailer Shows Him In Action

Mario_maniac

@santaglause Who were you hoping for exactly? All I ever see is praise for the roster: it’s kept the mainstays, reintroduced the likes of Diddy, Birdo, and Petey, and added Pauline to the spin-offs. Not to mention the oddballs of Chain Chomp and Fire Piranha Plant.

Me myself, I’m disappointed King Boo wasn’t playable, but otherwise I can live without the Koopalings, babies, and other Kongs for the sake of variety. (Even then I know Boo is already playable and goes against what I say for King Boo and variety — but all the same, he’s already a boss like Petey and there’s never been an overabundance of Boos or Piranha Plants.)

Re: Evidence Points To November 21st Release For Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp

[laughs from Australia]

For realsies though, it’s fun for a free game. Keep in mind that there are a couple of limited time items that require the currency you can either earn or pay for (the items themselves have perks), so anyone sticking to free-to-play: look into the options for how you can earn the currency once you’re playing. It might feel like you can only get one of the two items, but you can certainly earn both with continuous play.

Does anyone have an idea as to whether or not the "Monsties" being offered by the eShop version of MH Stories will be available through regular means? I'd prefer to get a physical copy but at the same time I'm a sucker for getting everything I can from a game.

Another backer here waiting for his Shantae code — even though it's neat WayForward provided Steam codes to backers still waiting, if we have to wait more than a day past the actual launch of the Wii U version for our codes that's pretty lame, considering we've been waiting for over 2 years for this.

Re: Guide: Super Mario Run Tips And Tricks

@nab1 The only warning I saw was that we'd lose the Toads who came to support us for that round. I checked a few times and my Toad levels didn't decrease, but will have another looksie now.

Edit: Well hey, guess you were right — my Toads all decreased by one when I quit an airship level, except for the Yellow Toads. Still, I'd rather lose one of each than a whole bunch of each.

Edit 2: Tried it again in a Red Toad-only stage and the count didn't decrease that time for me. I don't know what formula they're using but it seems a bit random.

As another tip, in Toad Rally if you think you're doing pretty bad compared to the other person (like if they got a Star and you missed it, or you're having an off moment and keep falling into pits), pause and quit before time runs out. You won't lose any Toads, and your Toad Rally ticket that you spent to play the round returns to you.

I can see that being patched out sooner or later, though.

Re: Autumn Animal Crossing: New Leaf Update To Bring amiibo Figure And Card Support

Mario_maniac

This is crazy, I was playing New Leaf earlier and thinking amiibo card support would be neat. Also was wondering why they never made use of that "Update data" feature on the menu.

That's the third coincidence I've had with them of late, including the Pokémon discount just after I thought about getting Yellow (though said discount never actually reached Australia...) and being offered a NES just before the reveal of the NES mini.

The Layton movie interests me, but I already own the DVD so I'll probs just save some moolah and rewatch it. Speaking of Layton, I gotta get back into the series. Loved the first two games but it sorta fizzled after for me.
