The European Nintendo Download Update is live, and it's a packed line-up this week. We have two retail arrivals on the Switch along with seven new download-only options. In addition the 3DS has its own retail arrival alongside a new download title, the Wii U has two new downloads, and there are also plenty of discounts to consider. Let's get to it.
Switch Retail Downloads
LEGO Worlds (WB Games, €29.99 / £24.99) - A title that is certainly eagerly awaited by some, this takes the fun of LEGO games into a creative sandbox environment. The download version is less expensive than the boxed equivalent which includes two DLC packs right off the bat; the DLC will be available to buy separately if you pick it up on the eShop. We're currently working on a review. Available from 8th September.
The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ (Nicalis, €39.99 / £35.99) - The final and ultimate iteration of this title, it includes all of the key expansions in one place along with selected mods from the PC scene that will be added by the developers in 'booster packs'. It's a whole lot of Isaac, basically, with an impressive range of room configurations, weapons and broader variations to explore; we were impressed in our The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ review.
Switch eShop
R.B.I. Baseball 17 (Nighthawk Interactive, €29.99 / £26.99) - Very much the accessible action-focused alternative to PS4 exclusive MLB The Show 17, this offers all of the same official teams and players and various modes. We'll see whether it's a home run or a strikeout in a review.
The Bridge (The Quantum Astrophysicists Guild, €9.99 / £8.99) - An intriguing puzzle title that has made its mark on various platforms including the Wii U. In addition to an eye-catching visual design its puzzles play around with perception and gravity; we gave this a recommendation in our The Bridge review.
NeuroVoider (Flying Oak, €13.99 / £12.99) - This has been on the radar for a little while, offering a "twin-stick shooter RPG set in a cyber futuristic world". With co-op included that makes this one rather appealing on paper - we'll blast through a review to let you know what we think.
Lichtspeer: Double Speer Edition (Crunching Koalas, €9.99 / £8.99) - Pitched as a "laser fuelled action game infused with an exquisite cosmic soundtrack", in this one you try to hurl javelins at foes as accurately as possible. It's stylistically bonkers and on Switch includes a new co-op mode; we'll let you know what we think in a review.
Double Dragon IV (Arc System Works, €9.49 / £8.59) - This sequel adopts the same visual style and gameplay approach as the NES originals, with extra modes like Vs. and Tower also thrown in. The reaction to this was undoubtedly mixed on other systems, so we'll pick a fight and bring you a review soon.
Blue's Journey (HAMSTER, €6.99 / £6.29) - The latest ACA Neo Geo release is a co-operative platformer; in this Alpha Denshi-developed game the action takes place on the planet of Raguy, which is on the verge of a massive ecological disaster. Player one controls the titular Blue while player two takes control of the pallet swapped Princess Fa.
Physical Contact: 2048 (Collavier Corporation, €5.00 / £4.49) - The second of this series to come to the Switch, in this case offering local multiplayer and solo play in a variation on a popular smart device number game. We weren't impressed with its predecessor, Physical Contact: SPEED.
Switch DLC
LEGO Worlds: Classic Space Pack (Warner Bros., €3.99 / £3.29)
3DS Retail Download
Monster Hunter Stories (Capcom, €39.99 / £34.99) - An RPG-style spin-off to the series conceived to appeal to a broader and potentially younger audience in Japan, it's good to see this one finally arrive in the West. It certainly looks colourful and provides a different feel as you team up with some monsters for the quest; we're working on a review, but in the meantime you can see some early impressions from last year. Available from 8th September. Bonus if you download from Nintendo eShop: Exclusive “Explorer Set” Monsties Zinogre (Fire), Rathian (Water), Yian Kut-Ku (Ice), Lagombi (Thunder). The download code will be shown on-screen after the download.
3DS eShop
Crystareino (KEMCO, €9.99 / £8.99) - A publisher that's kept busy in bringing a range of RPG titles to the portable, here's another one to try and tempt you. Two heroes are summoned to another world, as you'd expect in a game like this, and battle to return home; turn-based battles and up to 20 character classes will aim to save the day.

I'll buy Earthlock: Festival of Magic for Wii U if it reviews well.
FINALLY get to download Binding of Isaac. Torn between physical and digital though.
Am I correct in assuming MH Stories is Monster Hunter with Pokemon gameplay? Also Binding of Isaac physically.
Here in Italy, Lego Worlds has been postponed to september 14th... And it's pratically impossible to order retail versions of Cave Story + and Binding Of Isaac... Soooooo sad...
@GoldenGamer88 Sort of, yes, in that they're turn based battles (I believe). We'll hopefully have a review ready soon, anyway.
@Moon The game plays well in digital... but it also has one of the best retail goodies (with Cave Story's miniCD).
And I'm quite happy to hear there will be a Lego Worlds review. Can't wait to read that !
Here's my advice from across the pond, Binding of Isaac is terrific on the Switch. Handheld is my favorite way to play the game.
I was curious about binding of Isaac but £36 is just too much IMO.
Monster Hunter Stories sounds interesting.
@neufel I have the game on 3DS and have played it for hundreds of hours. I know I'll never get bored of Isaac, so having it downloaded would be ideal as I could always easily switch to it.
I would love to have it in a box on my shelf though... but I doubt the GAME near me will even stock it. I would have to buy it online. Might just get both. D: First world problems
Nothing for me this week. I tried the Monster Hunter Stories demo, but didn't enjoy the gameplay or the characters that much.
I've noticed that you point out you will review most of the Switch games, but no longer bother with games that release on the Wii U. Are there any sites I can go to, to find reviews of titles such as The Girl and the Robot, and Earthlock?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE That's if anyone reviews it.
Had Binding of Issac physical on pre-order FOREVER!
Amazon says going to be delivered tomorrow, even though not dispatched yet, yeah right I'm going to get it tomorrow
I'd already have downloaded Double Dragon IV if it used the arcade visuals, but as it uses the NES... I'm not so keen.
Not that I will play it for God knows how long due to Mario and Rabbids consuming all the little gaming time that I have, I've got The Binding Of Isaac arriving tomorrow from GAME. Was only £30.00 and though it doesn't look all that, I have heard NOTHING but good things about it. Looking forward to seeing what it's all about now I guess
Double Dragon is tempting only because I'll download Double Dragon anything on my consoles (it's a shame that the GB sequels were never released on 3DS), but the NES visuals and gameplay are extremely off-putting. There's a thin line between "retro" and GD laziness.
@RainbowGazelle Going by PS4 reviews it's not very good unfortunately.

Binding of Isaac, where were you back in March/April? Might have picked you up if you'd come to Europe at the same time as you were born in America, but the eShop is so much better now. Missed the boat for me; I'll wait for a sale now.
Does anyone have an idea as to whether or not the "Monsties" being offered by the eShop version of MH Stories will be available through regular means? I'd prefer to get a physical copy but at the same time I'm a sucker for getting everything I can from a game.
I got Binding of Isaac a couple of months back by "importing" from the US eShop. I think it worked out a little cheaper than this price if memory serves. Just wish I had more time to play it...
It's great to have a good bit of choice on an Nintendo console at long last. Every time I look on Nintendo life recently has there been more games announced coming to the switch. Long may it last. Wii u suddenly seems a long time ago
Same shitty games on sale all the time on 3ds. 20% off a two dollar game doesn't excite much either.
@Bunkerneath could have gone down to the loca storel in town, it's cheaper and they've had import copies for over a month already. Do you usually find Amazon better to order from than the Nintendo UK store?
May pick up Lego Worlds and Neurovoider for something a little bit different. Particularly as PayPal gave me £5 eshop credit for free. Then again I have Rayman coming on Tuesday, Pokken coming the week after, and FIFA the week after that. Expensive month.
A quick question on the Binding of Isaac. Does it work like a typical twin stick shooter, using the analogue stick to both fire and aim the projectiles? This is a control scheme I really just can't stand.
The game really catches my fancy aesthetically, but if it uses the above mentioned form of controls I will most likely give it a miss.
@ThomasBW84 From what I've seen, it is turn-based. Gonna wait for reviews as I'm still very busy with Splatoon 2.
Nintendo I am disappoint! You release a Hey Pikmin demo 1 month in advance but you won't even let people taste Metroid until next week?
@Bunkerneath
Funnily enough, it is exactly the same for me! Not yet dispatched, but still allegedly arriving tomorrow. I wonder if they recieved fewer copies than they anticipated?
Im waiting for Wulverblade, nothing for me this week.
@Aaronthehedgehog living in Guernsey the stores are crap and never have the games, also Nintendo store always screws up my orders. Not to mention they charge VAT. Preordered Mario odyssey from amazon for £35
Happy Earthlock is finally here. Just waiting for my download code...
NeuroVoider looks AWESOME!!!
@GoldenGamer88 Why don't you try the demo?
@Moon Be sure to get the Physical. It comes with a cool Manual and stickers
@SuperCesco 365games has Cave Story at a reduced price at shipping to Italy is just £2.99
Just curious- any of you guys across the pond even into baseball?? Lol
@Randomname19 Ah, right, completely forgot about that. Very busy with Splatoon and 3DS's been dead to me since March. I'mma try it next thing tomorrow morning.
I look at this list n think what a load of shit☹️ Where's donkey Kong
Maybe look at Isaac but meh
@Bunkerneath Mine didn't come and Amazon said they don't know when stock will land. They are very sorry but it should include the goodies when it does arrive.
I was going to buy MH Stories at retail, but after the bonus, can't help to get it digitally. Especially since I am so lazy recently to head out.
LEGO Worlds seems kinda fun, might check it out.
@flatspikes
I just received the same e-mail. Disappointing from Amazon. Apparently, ShopTo have it in stock... might be worth a look.
@flatspikes @Ooyah Well logged on now
"Not yet dispatched
Delivery estimate: We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date."
My Cloud Player 2 pre-order has been saying that for months, therefore they are not in stock, even though if you go to it to try and order it on the screen it says:
"In stock.
Get it as soon as 14 - 18 Sep"
What the hell Amazon? You been taken over by the UK Official Nintendo Store or something? This is the reason I changed to you for pity sake! head in hands :S
Nice to see plenty of options again but nothing for me this week
@Bunkerneath
I went with Amazon because I thought they would have more stock than anyone else. :/
The e-mail I got from them just said that they were still trying to obtain the item. So vague. Cancelled.
Just a tick! WHERE'S MORPHITE?
@Bunkerneath
Actually, what @Moon said has made me decide to go digital. I have played Isaac for hundreds of hours across different versions... I would prefer to have it always available, without having to continuously swap carts.
Bought Binding of Isaac for the third time now, though each version has been a slight addition each time. Rebirth on 3DS, Afterbirth on PS4/Vita and now this.
Really want to play Isaac but that price is a little steep for me. Got enough on to wait for a while.
