Honestly my fave Direct I've seen. Petey in MK8, Daisy actually given a prominent role in a main series game, and a remake of an RPG I've been meaning to replay... those were my highlights, but I can admit the first two were only nice surprises compared to the actual game announcements.
Not that I'm knocking this, I remember being shocked by a gory comic featuring Usagi about 25ish years ago when I was just a kid and it stuck with me and I wish I remembered the publication (MAD Magazine maybe), but didn't the devs say there'd be no DLC for this game at one point?
EDIT: Nevermind, Googling suggests they "didn't rule it out" or whatever. What a non-statement in this decade.
Australian over here, I just tried redeeming the gold coins and I got my 80. I suggest anyone affected try again, if it worked for me I assume it's sorted out now.
It'd be nice if animated films weren't just a continuation credit for actors, but also a starting point. Why do we need an established actor to portray the likes of Wario and Waluigi? Brand recognition be damned, voice acting shouldn't demand Hollywood royalty.
I get why Petey Piranha and Birdo are part of this trailer given that the new Mii outfit is a Piranha Plant, and Birdo was heavily advertised being part of the MK8 course pack with this particular course... but hell, they need to add both characters to the next Yoshi's Island game in some capacity. Let Birdo be a new playable character and Petey be a boss, but they mesh so well with Yoshi's Island.
I have Dreamlight Valley, and haven't experienced as many crashes as people report, and I genuinely enjoy it. This, however, suggests that even if we purchase the most expensive version, we miss out on the rest of the founder outfits beyond the character we choose. This goes beyond FOMO purchase — it legitimately locks us out of being able to unlock everything. Not into it.
I won mine through an Aussie magazine called K-Zone! They asked us to submit in 25 words or less our fave Pokémon, so I sent in Mr. Mime as I love clowns, and psychics are my preferred type. I guess I had a unique answer, because I won the cobalt blue SP and a copy of Pokémon Sapphire. Definitely gave me a shock when I found out I won.
In Paper Mario, when you fight the Shy Guys holding a note you need translated, pay attention to the order of them, they're each a different colour. The note needs to be translated by a Toad to let you work out which order to hit certain blocks, but the Shy Guys are already standing in the order you need to know, allowing you to hang onto the note for the rest of the game.
I'll go against the grain here — the limited times for Salmon Run ruined the mode for me, personally, and I played it a few times but because it was unreliable to be there when I felt like playing Splatoon 2, I never really bothered with it. There was no reason to keep it limited the way it was and to take a whole mode away from the game at certain times confuses me even today.
Absolutely not standing for what they've done with the physical Wonder Boy collection including two extra games as a bonus. Stuff like art cards, instruction manual — sure, I get it, they're physical bonuses — but to exclude two games from digital downloads (at this stage, not even to be available as DLC, which could improve the situation) is such an odd choice, especially considering the physical release was so limited.
Feels less like a physical bonus and more of an obligation for people to wait for a less convenient collection.
Nina Williams was a later addition to Tekken 7 despite being in every game beforehand. There's a lack of female characters in this game — a lack of characters in general — I'll be shocked if Daisy isn't introduced later.
HOWEVER! I have a different bone to pick with Next Level Games. Why didn't they include her in Luigi's Mansion 3, considering the other cast? There are't many opportunities for her but given that she's close to Luigi, why keep em apart? Eh, bring both Daisy and Hellen Gravely in as playable, why not.
This has been the case for European and Australian amiibo for some time, they've lacked the silver foil at the bottom since at least the release of the Octolings. I tried reporting that on Reddit years ago but it looks like the text in the post didn't actually become visible for others to read?
Macbat 64 (which is on the Switch eShop for only a couple dollars) has a nice interpretation of how a N64 Metroid could be at the end of the game. It even features a cameo from a certain Super Metroid character in the same level.
Hopefully Australia sees the complete series released. It was something I enjoyed watching on Netflix but from what I've gauged we've only seen the first season released physically and this is one Netflix series I'd buy standalone, given the recent articles about the provider.
I always thought of the Android/Cell Sagas being my fave DBZ storyline. Not holding my breath but I'd love to see Android 19 and Dr Gero brought into the game as well, maybe even earlier forms of Cell.
@Silly_G Eh, I dunno that I ascribe to the theory that Jynx has been left in the dust because of all that. She still gets recognition in the TCG, and she got at least one plush and a shirt design in recent years. She's part of the OG group so that's obviously why she got that merch, but all the same she's still being recognised. If it came down to being a PR issue, she would have been written off entirely.
I don't expect an evolution for her either, but if for whatever reason the theory that Jynx can't be developed further because they're going with the blackface theory is actually true, the devs should just address her Yokai origins and call it a day already. I've always appreciated the 122-126 Pokémon — and frankly, I want both Jynx to have an evolution AND Scyther to have a pre-evo so they're each (mostly) on the same level as each other.
Oh! I just discovered for myself that holding down "A" on the timer mode unlocks (what I think is, based on how the counter changes) a survival mode and the background changes.
Edit: I guess more like a Time Attack mode, defeat all the enemies in the shortest time. You respawn when you die, at least.
Bit of a warp pipe dream but I hope Metroid's the next to get a G&W release with the NES, Famicom, and GB releases. Maybe that unreleased colour version of Metroid 2 as well.
@CharlieGirl I don't have enough to go on to dispute what you're saying... but say you buy the AC DLC. Will that mean you pay less for the N64 + Sega membership than those who haven't?
Because if not, I'll only be buying the AC DLC at the end of the system's life. Maybe that's what Nintendo were banking on with this. Either way this added cost does give a bit to think about.
I was pretty chuffed to learn the other day that Angus & Julia Stone have produced a whole soundtrack for the new game. They've always been my fave band and I'm glad they even got Santa Monica Dream in the first one. I haven't played any of these games yet but I'm going to have to just for the music alone.
(The album - or EP, I dunno how many songs they're releasing - is out very very soon, btw.)
Edit: Out now in Australia at least! 12 songs, all meant to be in the game I believe. Album's fittingly named "Life is Strange".
To those curious about why they didn't make this SP version the "Game 2" version that fills your inventory with P-Wings... why not just beat this one with the costumes and then you'll have the same effect regardless? You'll get to experience that version of the game, as well as what Nintendo are aiming for with this one.
Locked in my order just now. I hope all regions eventually get it, but lemme tell ya... physical rewards are fairly recent for Down Under compared to the Club Nintendo days. I'm certain there are goods America and Europe have that we never received ourselves, so please don't hate on Nintendo Australia too much.
Edit: lol actually yeah, having just looked at all the stuff US/EU has received in the past that we in the AU have not — first of all, I fully expect you'll get the bag — secondly, and more importantly, to the complainers: bite me.
@RetroGamer07 The Wii U release was super beneficial as it ditched the previous limit of 32 "e-Levels" per cart and I'll always appreciate how Nintendo handled that particular emulation. I mentioned before I had printed files to access special levels; I think there was one certain Japanese level I never got to play until the Wii U release so that was pretty cool, plus the access to every classic SMB level without rescanning dodgy e-Reader codes when I felt like playing them again. 100% worth the investment if people have a Wii U.
Thing is, the Wii U version excluded the e-Switches. Playing SMB3 with SMB2's veggies scattered throughout the game was awesome, as was the halved P-meter and even the one that increased difficulty via harder enemies. That was a huge missed opportunity considering you can toggle them off and on between levels once scanned. Also, access to the cape power-up is pretty limited to the e-Reader world unless you have the card to scan in, and that combined with the SMB2 veggies does make a difference to SMB3. Hopefully they release a full version someday because the combined features are certainly worth it.
Man, I loved the e-Reader growing up. It was such a cool concept to me and as an Aussie, we got treated worse than Japan and the US but better than Europe with it. I was heartbroken we never got things like the Mario Party-e set or most of the cards the US got for Mario Advance 4, but I still treat my collection with pride (and I recall finding a site that let me access the SMA4 features I would've otherwise missed out on) and value amiibo as a continuation of it. I was aware of the Kirby cards but not the rarity of the winner cards — I'm grateful I didn't set out to be a completionist.
While I'm glad for these changes... why are they announcing them Tweet-by-Tweet this close to launch? Just tell us all the changes at once if you really wanted to wait this late, drip-feeding it feels like a misstep to me.
