@EriXz I agree with this statement, however I've also seen the ignorance of parents looking to get an affordable deal on a system for their kids. They don't understand that internet access is now an integral part of gaming and piracy is rampant. So, I'm not entirely without sympathy for those parents who don't play or understand video games.
They just see a Switch 2 on Facebook Marketplace for $250-$300 and snag it without a second thought. Then when the system doesn't work, they look at and fault Nintendo for a lack of a solution because the person they bought it from is long gone.
But I do agree, there are plenty of options to test a device, but personally, I'd only buy a device brand new, or used by a reputable retailer that will be willing to exchange it if there is a problem. It really should be a non-issue with the use of common sense.
I am so excited for this game! Thanks Jim and Alex for the additional coverage! Hate that the capture card messed up so much footage, but this still made me very excited to get my hands on it!
Eh, I don't think this was intentional. I think someone on the team noticed that the Random option wasn't working as intended and they simply fixed it to its intended use-case. They can't read the minds of their player-base and know that people were using this option to work around a limitation that they don't currently see an issue with.
It is being painted that way by the unknowing consumer though. The competitive crowd is mad that the option is gone, but in reality, it was never supposed to work that way. It is definitely important to let them know that online players want the option and instead of the player-base using the work around, now they are using their platforms to be more vocal about what they want to see in a future update. I feel this "backlash" will only benefit the game in the end.
Probably more of a blessing in disguise situation here, and I have no doubt more options are in the works for the online mode. There is clearly going to be an online tournament mode soon as NintendoVS is ramping up for the Mario Kart World Invitational and with the current structure of the online, that isn't possible.
We'll just have to wait and see what they do next!
@BFahey3 Having used Zelda Notes for about 10 hours, I'm unsure what the big issue everyone is having with it. The biggest complaint I've seen is how annoying the voice guidance is... but you have to manually activate it and you can even mute it with text telling you what to do instead, so how grating it was for the end user is 100% their decision. It's only use case is when something is at a different altitude, but even then, you can just have it tell you via text instead of voice.
I've been using it with 0 voice guidance and its been the most helpful tool for the game and blows away anything the community has made for it since it's fully synced to your save file and checks off everything you've done within seconds of finding it. It even has exclusive lore collectables and I think it's one of the coolest additions personally.
And this was for Breath of the Wild. I haven't even tried it yet on Tears of the Kingdom yet.
I'm still experimenting to find the right vehicle for him though. (I just unlocked him Sunday night. Hate how unlocking characters works in this game...)
@jetsetradion This comment nailed it. I think the best has yet to come for Mario Kart World. Gameplay, visuals and music is the best it's ever been. It's absolutely designed for future updates over the Switch 2's life and I'm excited to be here for the journey since day 1!
Nice to hear Age of Calamity can detect the improved hardware and no longer struggles to run! I'll gladly play it at a stable framerate. I don't have high hopes it will get a free update but would love for it to run like Age of Imprisonment by the time I finish my playthrough of Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition!
I love Mario Kart World so much and will definitely sink 100s of hours over the course of the Nintendo Switch 2's lifespan.
I do agree Free Roam isn't the best it could have been, but it fantastic to just take a break during the chaos and explore the world in short bursts. I think its neat that you get chances to explore in between online races with all the other players too!
It's odd, but if Miyamoto wanted to be credited, he would have made it so. No, Nintendo has made it pretty clear they are shifting the entire company to a new generation and I think this is just another (extremely minor and unimportant) sign that this is all part of that transition.
@Ziondood Yes! I think I also would like that version of Hyrule the most too. There's so much you could do as far as theming too! Excited to see what they do with it, but it looks like they nailed it with Mario and Donkey Kong, so I have no doubt Legend of Zelda will be great too!
Yeah, I think the plan is to cram as much "Nintendo" as they possibly can and they definitely won't stop at Super Mario, Donkey Kong with some Pikmin thrown in there. Next up is definitely The Legend of Zelda for sure! The question is... which style are they going to go with?
I think it's fascinating that the merch and stained glass murals lean more towards Twilight Princess being the theme. That would be a real shift in tone between the parks!
Eh, I think these are words from a person that is just burned out and exhausted from this conversation when he has no control of the situation.
Buy it or don't buy it. That's the only power we really have in the industry. You can express your disappointment on the Internet all you want but it will never reach the eyes or ears of the people that need to hear it.
I enjoy the smaller inclusions sprinkled in every week. It's also nice that the Famicom Disk System version is included too. I use the daily Nintendo Music Top Pick for my commute to work every day so I always look forward to the weekly additions!
Darn... was really looking forward to getting two copies of this for me and my wife. Now we'll just wait for it to go on sale before or in hopes they fix the multiplayer component. There's no reason for the multiplayer component to be so restrictive when its 3DS predecessor wasn't.
Given the release date that they are trying to achieve worldwide, this game is likely very close to completion and was in development alongside The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy so I wouldn't downplay their financial woes too much.
The quality of this one vs. the other may vary as they might be trying to rush it out in hopes of recouping costs quickly. We'll just have to see!
@Magician & @Pillowpants are correct. People are just scared of the implication that having this option further pushes us to that all-digital future that collectors do not want.
I think Japanese studios will be aiming for simultaneous releases on Nintendo Switch 2 going forward. It's just the system to get your games on over there, and this will translate to localizations in the west of these versions as well. The gap seems to be getting smaller for sure!
I'm interested in replaying these games with the resolution and performance boosts. There's no denying that Pokémon fans found enough to love about these games to enjoy them, despite their poor state on the original Nintendo Switch. I still don't think this is going to fix the biggest issues within the game though. Tera Raids may actually be even more unplayable than they already are, lol.
Definitely not in a rush to replay them though. I'd rather replay the Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda series improvements first!
I wasn't too concerned with this. I was pretty sure that the games would just inherently run at the stable 60 FPS intended, instead of the performance dips in certain areas.
Still, it would have been nice for the clarification from them directly instead of having to just believe this to be the case.
I've been playing it a bit more since the direct actually! I looked up a list of games that are already running @ 60 FPS on the machine and been playing those in anticipation!
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Metroid Prime Remastered & F-Zero 99 have been my rotation since the Switch 2 Direct!
I am glad stolen goods were recovered and the arrest was made.
Just to add to the last bit of the article, I am really sad about the state of the Pokémon TCG hobby. My wife and I got into playing the card game on our honeymoon in 2021, when a pop-up shop at a nearby mall was holding an event for newcomers. We were hooked ever since, but lately it's been a very miserable experience. Might end up finally giving up if something doesn't change soon. At least our collection is worth a small fortune!
Super Smash Bros. was the number one go-to game for me and my now wife while we were dating. It still is really, so the idea definitely had potential! Maybe they can be a little more broad with the concept and salvage the effort they've made. Hate to see that work go to waste!
I haven't watched the movie. Typically, I only watch 3 to 5 movies a year so I'm extremely picky with what I watch and this movie seemed like more of a family or kids film that I simply wouldn't appreciate like I do the games.
I think it's tough to get excited about a feature that already exists on practically every device these days, but I am still happy that its there.
I'll likely use it every now and then when playing multiplayer games, but other than getting hints from friends, I don't think I'll use the screen share feature all that much.

Yes, I will definitely be making adjustments accordingly to my own hobby budget. I will not be increasing it, so it will simply mean fewer games purchased annually, which in turn means fewer day one purchases. Looking for digital sales on Amazon, GameStop and or course, the eShop.
I'll also go mostly digital so the FOMO is no longer a factor in impulse buying. Physical games are going on the window this generation, so I might as well embrace it. Maybe its because I'm older, but I kind of really hate looking at my shelves of video games now, lol.
Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind was the first video game I bought for the SNES after getting it with Super Mario World and Super Mario Kart for Christmas.
It wasn't that bad, but it sure was difficult. My sister and I played through it together one weekend though. We were absolutely determined to see it finished!
After that, we never wanted to play its sequels, lol.
I think this is a really cool solution, that I really wasn't expecting even in the next 10 years. My wife and I have two different consoles with separate accounts.
Now we don't have to worry who owns what and we can just swap games between our systems. I am curious, if my wife lends me Fire Emblem Engage, would it include the DLC she purchased for it, or would I only get access to the base game?
More than likely, I won't really be grabbing these. I tend to buy third party software on other platforms (or if they are exclusive to Switch, not buying them at all usually, lol)
I am giving it some serious thought about going all digital with this platform, even converting my current physical library of original Switch games to digital as sales come up so I'm not paying out of pocket for the conversion.
Just the convenience of having all of my Nintendo games on a 256GB UFS 3.1 + 1TB Micro SD Express seems to be the way to go for my life-style. But I haven't fully committed to the idea yet. Would also be nice to not have a wall of video games in my house anymore, lol.
I'm happy I grew up with the older Donkey Kong designs, but man... I absolutely love his new look. I'm excited to see his new design in all the party and sports games in the future!
Fascinating how everyone had completely different experiences getting their pre-orders in.
I took a nap, logged into my Walmart app at 1AM, clicked the pre-order button, entered my information and was done by 1:02AM and went back to sleep. I had never had a smoother experience pre-ordering a console online in my entire life. I guess I was just lucky, lol.
And yes, I did confirm 5 separate times throughout the day that my pre-order has not been cancelled and my bank account has not be refunded. Looks like I'm all in on Nintendo Switch 2 after all!

Re: Poll: What's Your Switch (2) Game Of The Year So Far?
Hmmm, I'd say so far Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is my Nintendo GOTY with Mario Kart World being my runner up.
But I have a feeling Donkey Kong Bananza and/or Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will end up beating them both out.

Sadly, having to pass on this... It looks awful.

Re: Japanese Charts: Mario Kart World Speeds Past 1 Million Physical Sales
@SuperBro64 Definitely not alone for sure. I am still in love with it and played it for 4 hours straight last night. That time just flew by!
It's an incredible game and I'm about to start playing it on my lunch break here in a few minutes at work!

Re: "One Of The Slowest Modern LCDs I've Ever Seen" - Digital Foundry's John Linneman On Switch 2's Display
I can't say I have any personal issue with the screen's performance. Granted it's probably still the best display in my household right now.
Games tend to appear to have smoother animation and camera panning on my Switch 2 than my 5 year old QLED TV, lol.
