Re: Why Remake 'Dragon Quest VII' Before The Zenithian Trilogy? Yuji Horii Comments

MTMike87

If I had to guess, I'd say IV - VI will continue on the HD-2D Remake branding, while VII, VIII and IX will be Reimagined going forward.

Really curious how they'll handle VIII after this one, but I'd imagine that all of these games will look completely faithful to their originals as far as art style goes.

Really looking forward to all of these!

EDIT: The reason VII is coming out first is simply because this team was formed for the reimagining projects and were ahead of the HD-2D team, most likely.

Re: Anniversary: Celebrate Unova As Pokémon Black & White Turns 15

MTMike87

I absolutely adore these games. The sprite animations were great and I just really enjoyed exploring the region as much as Kanto and Johto. The story was great and was only matched by its soundtrack. I almost want a remake just to hear the music redone again.

I feel like Black and White will be the final traditional remakes of the Pokémon franchise. After that, I believe they will revisit regions through the Legends sub-series of the mainline games going forward.

If I had to guess, I'd believe they'll be one of the final cross-gen titles published by Nintendo as I have no doubt that Gen 10 will be made exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. I'm really curious how they'll tackle them since they do have direct sequels. Would be awesome to just implement them both in one package, but if I know Nintendo and the Pokémon Company, that's too much value to give to the customer.

Re: Nickelodeon Splat Pack Revives Multiple SNES Titles In One Retro Collection

MTMike87

I always like seeing these nostalgia collections. It's more about the memories than the games themselves. It's also a few more older games being accessible for those that enjoy seeing what was available in the 90s.

Personally though, this is a rough and expensive collection of bad BlockBuster rentals. I'm looking at 3 ruined childhood weekends right here, lol.

Re: Opinion: Metroid Prime 4 Reminds Me Of Gears 5, And It's Making Me Nervous

MTMike87

Eh, I think it will be fine. This is likely the first instance you use the bike, and a barren open section like this is the perfect way to get a handle on the controls.

I'd imagine that things get more complex and dense depending on the different locales you visit. I'd also think that the bike will get power-ups just like Samus herself so bike traversal will have it's own depth with exploration and combat. We've seen too many different environments with so much detail and density to assume that things will change all that much to the core design of Metroid. We'll have to wait and see, but I have high faith in this project and the vision.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 Prices Are Live, And It's Sticker Shock Time

MTMike87

Just happy they are on Switch. The price is outrageous, but they are two of the best games ever made. I'll just wait for the inevitable MAR10 day sale they do every year. It might be 2027 before they are discounted, but its just legacy software so I can wait.

Now if there are significant changes that enhance the experience though, well, I'll let NintendoLife tell me if it's worth the cost or not.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Direct September Predictions - What Do You Hope To See?

MTMike87

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has to have a release date reveal trailer along with one final thing that sets it apart from the first 3 mainline entries.

Other than that, I'm hoping for a second batch of free performance updates for original Switch games, including Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and X.

Fully expecting Super Mario Bros. Wonder - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + (insert content here) for $19.99.

More on Splatoon Raiders & Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment w/ release dates.

...and of course, that one more thing that they love to do. My guess would be the next entry of the Animal Crossing series since it's shown itself to be just as much of a console seller as any of their major franchises at this point.

Re: Talking Point: Is Hollow Knight: Silksong Too Difficult?

MTMike87

I haven't played it yet, so I'm not sure how true this is, but given the team's size and how long it took to develop...

Is it possible that Team Cherry were play testing it so much that they mastered the game's mechanics over the last few years and this is the result of their skill level not matching the skill level of a larger portion of their player base? I think that's a strong possibility that difficulty scaling gets increasingly harder the more someone plays the game they are making.

I agree with the above sentiments that difficulty settings would simply resolve the issue.

Re: Review: Bubsy In: The Purrfect Collection (Switch) - Limited Run Cleans Out The Kitty Litter

MTMike87

I do have "nostalgia" for the original Bubsy since it was among the very first video games I ever owned on the SNES. My sister and I spent many weekend evenings trying to beat that stupid game, but we never did... That said, it did create some memories, so there's that, but I'd never want to revisit it or any of the past entries. Bubsy 4D doesn't look bad though.

I'm not really sure who this collection was for except the most devout believers of video game preservation and the industry's history.

Re: Poll: Three Months In, How Would You Rate Switch 2's Library So Far?

MTMike87

I think it's great so far personally. There's also value in the free upgrades to past games that I already own. There's plenty to enjoy from the upgrade and honestly way better than the original Nintendo Switch launch 3 months in.

I think its still missing that one game that can push it and identify it. For whatever reason Mario Kart World isn't making the splash many thought it would. I haven't played Donkey Kong Bananza yet, so I can't have an opinion on it other than I wasn't inclined to buy it day one, lol.

Re: "I Can't Afford To Give It Away For Free" - Silksong's Low Price Is Causing Devs To Re-Evaluate Their Own Games

MTMike87

This is fascinating to me because I would have thought Neva would have been part of the conversation. It's a phenomenal game that is independently made.

If you compare it to other indie projects, it trumps them in critical acclaim and as an art form + its a game fun to play through. Price tag is $19.99 as well. And Balatro - Infinite Replay Value and a GOTY nomination. Priced at $14.99.

My point is, everything will be fine. Consumers aren't as dumb as some of these indie devs think they are. They just see the vocal minority online and have started panicking. The mistake was voicing the concern in the first place. That's now sparking this conversation we shouldn't be having.

Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games & Accessories For September and October 2025

MTMike87

As far as Switch & Switch 2 releases go, I'll be grabbing: Pokémon Legends: Z-A: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles (Switch 1 w/ free Switch 2 Upgrade) and Little Nightmares III since it doesn't seem to be a game key card.

I'm hoping the Switch 2 version of Little Nightmares III has the friend pass so I can play co-op with my wife without needing two copies of the game. (We have two Switch 2 consoles) They've been really vague on that though...

Re: Little Nightmares 3 And Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition Announced For Switch 2

MTMike87

There seem to be a lot of caveats for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 editions... The thing they are dancing around in their official FAQ is the inclusion of a friend pass for the Nintendo versions.

"In order to allow the most people to play the game in co-op, we’ll include at launch a Friend’s Pass on the different platforms where it’s possible."

My wife and I both own Nintendo Switch 2 systems and we want to play this together without needing two separate copies. If this isn't possible, we would just buy it on PS5 and take turns, but co-op is ideal, but I need them to just come out and say: Friend Pass is available on these platforms and not be so vague. The only reason we haven't pre-ordered it yet is the sheer lack of transparency.

Re: Final Fantasy 14 Director Has Had "Positive Discussions" With Nintendo On Switch 2 Port

MTMike87

@AussieMcBucket XV was a multi-media franchise spanning tons of mobile games, VR games, books, movies, manga, anime, DLC, etc...

And then several DLCs ended up being cancelled because they simply couldn't keep the interest in it going, so they turned the final stretch of the story into a book instead.

All of that said though, the core game itself is actually pretty good, imo, and it provides a conclusive enough ending that it could still work on its own, but there are many plot holes that can make the game feel incomplete to some.

Re: Nintendo Won't Let Charity Speedrunning Event Use Its Games Without Permission, Because Of Course

MTMike87

I think in this case, if the organizers were co-operative and made written documentation to Nintendo that they would request permission for future events, Nintendo could have had the decency to give them a waived or provided a temporary permission form for a specific roster of games for this one event.

I think it's a bit tone-deaf for a company to completely disregard a charity event for the sake of legality. Of course, I don't know as much about business law in Japan, so maybe it's just a "by the books" situation. Still think there were ways around it than just "please understand."

Re: Apex Legends Switch 2 Performance And Resolution Upgrade Detailed

MTMike87

Yeah, that 78GB download is going to be a nope from me, lol. I have the storage, but I don't want to dedicate that much of the internal memory to one game, so I'll be passing on the Switch 2 version.

Going to hold out until larger capacity express cards are both more affordable and easier to get before shopping for one.

Re: Kirby And The Forgotten Land Switch 2 Trailer Showcases More New Mouthful Modes

MTMike87

Looking forward to playing (and replaying) the content in Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed Worlds!

I was curious if the game had Game Share so my wife could play on her Switch 2 and have her own camera control like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker did in its free upgrade. Surprised if this isn't the case for this paid upgrade pack!

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Bananza (Switch 2) - Absolutely Smashing, But Can It Beat Mario Odyssey?

MTMike87

@Zeroo I guess if you are strictly playing Nintendo's offerings this would be the case, lol.

I'm currently juggling: Mario Kart World, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, Yakuza 0: Director's Cut and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.

All of these have received similar glowing reviews from both Nintendo Life and other gaming websites.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Bananza (Switch 2) - Absolutely Smashing, But Can It Beat Mario Odyssey?

MTMike87

@Fizza Yeah, I never understood that. It's an objectively incredible game! I think its a vocal minority of completionists that want to 100% every entry in a given series. The common complaint is simply "Too Many Moons," and I think that's simply remedied by pacing oneself over the game having too much to collect, lol.

Anyway, really looking forward to Donkey Kong Bananza. Not getting it Day 1 since I have too much play on Switch 2 already but will still get to it later this year!

Re: Poll: How Are Your Download Speeds On Switch 2?

MTMike87

It's been really fast on both wired and wireless connections in my household!

Mario Kart World on Day 1 downloaded extremely fast. Maybe 10 - 15 minutes including install? The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack downloaded and installed within 5 minutes! I've had some of the free upgrades download in 30 seconds as well.

I've spent very little time waiting so far!
