@PinderSchloss AI images are bad references tools for artists in the same way that Wikipedia is a bad source. Even if your brain tells you it 100% correct, you need to know how you know that. You need a photo to verify with more certainty that what you're looking at is based on reality.
Using photos from a newspaper as a reference (like your ju-jitsu example) has never been a significant ethical controversy. Tracing is only an ethical controversy when it's utilised to deceive others in a given context. How an AI figures out how to generate an image of a fighter, is an ongoing ethical controversy.
@molkom My day job is animation and yes; generating loads of angles of an object you took IS far off from when animation went digital. The point of art IS the manual labour process. The end product is new and fresh and interesting BECAUSE of the manual labour involved. My favourite parts of my job are when I get paid to do things that are difficult and not strictly necessary for the company's end product, but strengthen my understanding of the craft and help make the end product look that bit more fresh and interesting. My least favourite bits are when I have do get out of the driver's seat and mindlessly click buttons and let the computer do all the manual labour. Like, art is not just about having the coolest ideas that pop into your head. Ai doesn't lead to better artistic output simply by virtue of letting you get the idea out faster.
It's always clear to me that the people who make arguments in favour of AI citing "less work for artists" don't make art of their own and don't take it seriously. And that's okay, I don't cook but like I'm gonna take my food opinions with a grain of salt when I'm talking to a chef!
@Dom_31 What makes 2 & 3's combat better than X? Just asking as I personally loved X's combat and would be very happy if later entries really did improve on it.
Lot of "The Customer is Always Right" mentality here. Team Cherry can realistically afford to price it at $20 because as long as the core game was solid the hype would guarantee its success. Any newbie trying to get attention basically is worried that they cannot put a fair price on their own labour hours.
Honestly while I don't like these responses at face value, the fact that he openly admitted how the situation sucks suggests to me that it's genuine and may go SOME way to explaining the game-key card phenomenon among devs. DOESN'T explain why Square and SEGA went so all-in on game key cards for last-gen games though. Well, we know why, £££, but yeah.
I remember this "Indie" Dev Roundtable interview in EDGE magazine from 2014 where the devs were prompted to ask "What does Indie mean to you?" Except the devs in question included the creators of Elite Dangerous and LittleBigPlanet...
I have no need to re-buy Yakuza 0 and dishonestly calling it a Director's Cut doesn't change that. There aren't even that many Switch 2 exclusive games you can buy right now and the ones that do exist, everyone already bought ages ago.
Fair enough that they want to beat people trying to get a hold of things illicitly, but surely it's gotta be a legal issue to sell a console that can't play a single game without connecting to the internet at least once. I'm ignoring streaming consoles or whatever for this example.
If you're defending Epic's right to make money or think a dead man's consent is a white card to let ai eat more and more of workers' pies, you need straightened out
I'm actually shocked that the Western boxart won by such a large margin. Looks cheesy, unclassy, like the call-of-Duty "Man with Gun" covers but for snowboarding. Japanese one has the vibe down a lot more. It may look like an ad, but it's a damn good ad!
It's got the same colour theming as the Switch Online app on the Switch Home menu so idk it feels weird so use rhe same big primary colour for two separate sub-apps
Shuhei IS right. He's usually first to praise Nintendo's work. The fact that Nintendo's marketing Switch 2 by leaning so heavily on its beefy specs , while efforts to push the mouse feature are hushed & subdued, suggests that they're afraid to get too experimental. It's different from the Iwata philosophy. Besides first-party games, I see little reason to build my third-party library on Switch 2 instead of Steam Deck.
Yes many other Nintendo consoles pre-Iwata were defined largely by their graphical horsepower, but it's Iwata's philosophies that defined Nintendo as the Innovation Guys. Wii U and 3DS were upgrades, but they used their technological advancements to try things that were cool, even if theybwere doomed to be cast aside for the next console.
Honestly I see the vision. It:s goofy; a player turns into a dinosaur to eat the enemy at one point. I don't want a Nintendo-publisjed FromSoft game to be another Souls entry, doomed to be locked behind one console. This is a good opportunity to experiment with something new. Provided that From isn't pivoting towards a doomed Live Service future.
All of the incentives to try sweeten the deal for gated-off Online have always felt super slimy. I would happily take no Retro games, no Tetris 99, no free game upgrades or DLC expansions, if it meant that I could play Splatoon online for free.
Consoles requiring paid online is the most successful swindle in gaming and for me it free online was a legitimate selling point for the Wii U.
The evidence seems to be that it's due to weak yen rather than the tariffs (bc EU and UK prices match the USA one); otherwise the cheaper Japanese system would be scalped.
As someone who's had a Samsung foldable phone, please don't. Once dust gets in the folding mechanism my phone broke instantly. Duak screen is better all the way.
NGL I'd absolutely buy a Swotchbport of Devil's Third. It's practically a cultural artifact that's made by a fella that dresses like Tommy Wiseau. And on top of that its multiplayer mode (which was clearly meant to be thebmain selling point) looked extremely developed and fun!
@Spider-Kev they kept making ps2s even into the year of the PS4's launch it was a massive success in latin america. We still see 3ds sales in the Japanese sales charts at the very bottom so yea 160 million PS2s, not impossible
Isn't Walmart like... a department store?? Why would they be selling hacked roms?? Like, this is a place where you'd go to buy groceries and maybe a copy of Madden, yeah?
Have to say I made the right choice betting on a rerelease. V on Switch also has really annpying input delay in menus whivh jusy makes the experience of cycling thrpugh menus - very frequent in this game - a lot.more cumbersome than in IV. So yeah, this'll be a Steam Deck purchase for me.
Are kids actually watching stuff that's on BBC iPlayer? It's pretty cool that iPlayer has such a wide range of vontent beyond BBC stuff now. Just wonder how accessible it is to kids nowadays. Like I don't bother with the TV license these days.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes was really good honestly, and Wes Ball does have a lot of respect for Japanese media so I am sure this won't be awful at the very least.
@Setery I'm reminded of when MS & Sony were buying studios left & right, and investors were pressuring Nintendo to buy up other studios to compete. But Nintendo seems to have always been cautious on growth. Instead of buying Studios they seem to outsource a lot of 1st Party games to companies like Bandai Namco, and foster those relationships with the companies. Sony's not as guilty as Microsoft for snapping up random studios desperately, but they are indeed hellbent on growth and expansion to their own detriment.
