I just finished ZTD the other day so I'mmore than happy to have more. Also y'all saying it's the worst Zero Escape I will NEVER understand, Virtue's Last Reward is just 999 stretched out over 40 hours of padding and meaningless route locks, without any semblance of thematic substance/meaningful character interactions until the end. ZTD doesn't fully deliver on several of its ideas but it's much more ambitious, entertaining and of substance.
THAT SAID: Zero Escape is very much done as a trilogy. I don't think you can add anything to that story without diluting it. If it goes back to any of those stories/characters, I think I'll pass, they'll probably mess it up.
Well yeah, Nintendo seems to be the one that gets it. Ubisoft had some good ones, but they waffled on movies, which NOBODY cares about, and both them and Square Enix are guilty of killing the pace with one game. I'd say that Xbox perhaps stood toe to toe with Nintendo this year, but it depends on whether you care more about Starfield/Halo, or Zelda/Metroid.
From what they've shown I have to wonder how difficult it gets., all looks pretty low-stakes so far. Also not entirely sure how it being open world will enrich the game.
It absolutely has all you need to make a 3D game prototype, and the ceiling for what you can achieve is much higher than GBG. However with that level of ambition, it's important to keep your ambitions in check. You can do a lot with the art/modelling in Dreams but that also means you can sink in a lot of time before you finish your project. If you go for Dreams, just don't dream bigger than you can handle and you should be fine. Keep it to small projects like GBG.
@Orpheus79V Yeah, people really ragged on Steam for letting through all sorts of crap onto Steam, but at least their curation makes the browsing experience much more rewarding, it's much easier to find games that are worth a player's time. The current big three just fart these games onto the system with basic curation that devs can't leverage unless the platform holders bless them with exposure. Otherwise, your game shall simply rot amongst a pile of shovelware.
God this still holds up today, I remember thinking this alone was one of the best looking games I'd seen (though it didn't end up being one) - I wish there was a Zelda game that looked like this. I do wonder if this was running on a Wii U, because the lighting and reflections look like something well beyond its capabilities.
I'm really surprised by people's disgust towards this game? Not people's cup of tea but far, far from abysmal.. It's not a bad game at all. I got it free on Epic, it's a charming, largely inoffensive walking simulator with light platforming and worldbuilding, plus a pretty strong aesthetic. I'd recommend the game as a bit of ambience to zone out to.
@GrailUK Interesting point about the Mockbuster there. Thing is with indie spiritual successors is well, our very own Nintendo has fumbled the Metroid franchise quite famously for the past decade (and you can say Castlevania on that note), to the point that games such as Axiom Verge and Hollow Knight have taken its core mechanics and evolved it well past Nintendo's own efforts with the Franchise. The reason people are hyped for this JSR successor is because their previous game was a fighting game that tapped into the same aesthetic and people gravitated towards it. Whether it will truly build on the previous JSR games is yet to be seen, but SEGA has shown little interest in doing so despite there being much fertile ground for a reinvention of the series.
I mean it's clear that the guy who tweeted at Reggie is oing so in jest, from his tone. Also I mean, he has left the company, so itd still be nice to hear his word on why it never came over, even if its perhaps evident.
Continuing to take away something that was once free, with little tangible benefit and a continued display of and incompetent service not even worth paying for... all while online remains completely free on platforms such as PC. You can give us Tetris 99 and Pac-Man and what have you, but we're really paying for the thing that was taken away from us.
Doesn't really surprise me, givent hat these dudes go all-in on trying to make everything they crap out into some sorta cultural phenomenon. Like, think about it, they have: Layton, Inazuma, Snack World, Yo-Kai Watch, and Little Battlers, all of those are franchises with loads of spin-off media, even toys and the like. They've tried to milk them all to hell and back.
I guess the Apple Arcade exclusivity would be less sour if: a) Any of these exclusives were the kind of game you'd get a device for b) Said device wasn't a a grand.
Even on contract, a flagship phone can be a back-breaking investment if you're just trynna get by.
I'm desparately trying to hold out for the PC release, but I think my gf will want me to play on Switch with her... plus, the wirebug mechanic is too cool... I can't believe I gotta wait a year for PC!! T_T
@Jayenkai I got the free version; it's cool to see that you're making games without much worry for if they get big or not. Gives me a bit of a reality check as a graduating art student, I take it all a bit too seriously.
The other removals make me angry, this just makes me sad. Like, why remove all the Mario stuff on the 31st? It's just bumming me out that Nintendo, like with NSO, seems to enjoy demonstrating their innate ability to get away with it.
@Jayenkai Oh hey stranger; just to let you know, I really enjoyed your games on the OUYA, and I remember AGameADay and particularly the one about the retro demakes based on just the titles. They're kinda a blur in my memory bc it's been that long since I booted up the OUYA, but when I find it I'll surely fire it up again and have a play
I think if Nintendo are smart, they will essentially make the Switch pro seem optional, then have it slowly transform into their own "Switch 2" next generation, as Microsoft is doing with their One and X|S generations.
Favourite tidbit about the first game is that freaking Atlus of all people stepped in to secure its funding - Atlus USA seemed to have a very brief indie game stint, which I actually kinda missed.
@Jakiboy Nah, there's a void to be filled, it's only a good thing for indies to capitalise on it. SEGA has done little to innovate with JSR in decades, and even JSRF didn't break much new ground.
It just sounds like a money dispute tbh, The offer was on the table but he decoded he was above it. You're not gonna admit publicly to wanting more money y'know? That, or he genuinely wanted more career opportunities that he couldn't while tied to Sonic. In any case, let's respect his wishes not publicly discuss it.
So the implication is that Control sold well on Switch? I'm honestly surprised that the cloud version performed well, I figured there'd be a lot of negativity surrounding it.
@RasandeRose Nintendo doesn't host any of these cloud games, it's a small Taiwanese company called Ubitus that is certainly incomparable in scale to Google. Also on Stadia you can at least download your save data to use with PC games which is not a possibility on Switch
I have GPD's previous DS-style gaming PC. It's massive in the hands but it's pretty damn good for running PS4/Xbox one games, and if you pair a JoyCon to it you can even get gyro aiming working. It's how I've been playing Daemon X Machina recently.
@JuiceMan_V Eh? Criterion hasn't made anything interesting of their own since Most Wanted 2012. Theyhad this car combat game a while back but no word since.
