Re: Atari's Badass 'Fatal Run' Revival Nails A Fall 2025 Release Window

@Dysnomia Hey, Yars Rising is good if you ignore the entire Metroidvania aspect of it (which unfortunately is like 90% of the game). It’s just so mediocre. Still, I enjoyed my time with the game. The more classic-style Yars stuff was fun, and I enjoyed the Atari references throughout the game. Killer soundtrack too!

And yeah, the Recharged games are great. I also really liked Mr. Run and Jump, Qomp 2, Kombinera and a few others.

Re: Forget Switch 2 Game Key-Cards - "Full On-The-Cart Physical Releases" Are What People Want, Says Publisher Lost In Cult

Krambo42

“In a few years”.

No reason to believe this. You can still download games you own on the Wii, and that wasn’t even close to being the digital console that Switch/Switch 2 is. Plus, calling the cart worthless makes it sound like you won’t be able to play the game, which simply isn’t true as long as you still have it installed.

Having said all that, I think these are dumb. Physical games should save memory, and digital games should be convenient. Neither is the case with key cards.

Re: Xbox Is Raising The Price Of Consoles, Accessories, And Games Worldwide

Krambo42

Good news for Nintendo. They had the right analysts working on this. Can you imagine if they announced lower prices and then had to bump everything up before the thing even released or right after launch? Better to just shock everybody then have the rest of the market catch up-and the more that that happens before 6/5, the better.

Re: How Do Nintendo Switch 2 Virtual Game Cards Work? - Game Transfer & Lending Guide

Krambo42

I'm trying to understand all of this, and I'm a bit confused about this online license thing.

Right now, I have 3 Switches in my house. I have my primary console, my second console (which will soon be my son's console), and my wife's console. I am logged into all 3 consoles, and we play my games on all 3 (using the online "check" on the 2 non-primaries).

I've read this over and over again, and it sounds like you can use the virtual cartridges between two systems AND continue to play on additional consoles using the online check in if you turn on online licensing. Is that correct? Or is that only between the same two consoles you do the virtual cartridges with? Because I was under the impression it was one or the other, but this new language makes it sound like it'll continue to work the same way.

Re: Best Xenoblade Chronicles Games Of All Time

Krambo42

Personally, I think this is ridiculous. 2 and 3 are two of my favorite games of all time. I dropped XCDE after like ten hours. I just thought it was boring and unfun. But hey-that’s me.

Looking forward to X next week! I only played like half an hour of it on Wii U.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Wants Nintendo To Reboot Virtual Console For Switch 2

Krambo42

I like the online subscription stuff, but like so many other people, I’d love to have the option to give them a few bucks to permanently own games from the collections. At the very least, it’d be nice if they said “if a game is ever about to get delisted, or the service is about to shut down, we’ll let you buy the games.”

Don’t really expect that to happen though.

Re: BIT.TRIP Runner Dev Is Bringing Back An Atari Classic With A Twist

Krambo42

@Teksette I'm referring to the "modern" console that came out within the last 5 years or so. This thing:

https://atari.com/pages/atari-vcs?srsltid=AfmBOoqAgT5rlFQUEbHVVSxVrT62CAokW_RGFn804LQjZ2un3zf1zMKo

I'm sure it's on its way out in the next year or two, and it's kind of a hard thing to recommend for a ton of reasons, but I love mine. Granted, I got it dirt cheap around the holidays. But the controller is basically a typical Atari joystick, but with twist controls (you twist the stick). All of the Recharged games and most of the other modern Atari games are available on the shop. I especially love playing Breakout Recharged, Asteroids Recharged and NeoSprint with this thing.

Like I said, kind of a hard thing to recommend to most people, and it's probably overpriced unless it goes on a huge sale again, but if you're looking to play these newer Atari games with twist controls, it's a darn good option. Happy to go into more detail if you'd like.

Re: Atari's CEO Is "Extremely Pleased" With Company's Performance In 2024

Krambo42

Atari has been awesome the last few years. Really solid games (I’ve especially enjoyed the Recharged games, Mr. Run and Jump, Qomp 2, Yars Rising and Kombinera, not to mention Atari 50, which is the the best retro collection ever), the 2600+/7800+, the 400 Mini, big acquisitions, official releases of cool homebrew games and long out of print/hard to find games…I know what they’re doing isn’t for everybody, but man, personally, I like them as much as any other company in gaming right now. Can’t wait to see what they plan on doing in 2025.

Oh, and I finally got a VCS when it was REALLY cheap around the holidays. Wish I had done it a few years earlier, I love it. Hard to recommend though.

Oh also, I’ve heard a few interviews with Wade Rosen on the All Things Nintendo podcast. Seems like good dude to me.

Re: Feature: Game Of The Year 2024 - Nintendo Life Staff Awards

Krambo42

@DwaynesGames Definitely one of my favorite gaming experiences of the year (as a big Yars/Atari fan), but it was a very mediocre Metroidvania with very enjoyable Yars and Atari stuff in it. The good outweighed the not so good, but man, I really struggle to call it a great game.

I had a great time. I 100%ed the main game (not all of the challenges you unlock). But I'd never recommend it to somebody looking for a good Metroidvania.
