Re: No Gravity Games Is Giving Away 11 Free Switch Games This Month (North America)

KoopaTheGamer

@RupeeClock Maybe I sound like a conspiracy theorist, but that's just about the only game from this publisher that people bought. If that doesn't count for you to get the rest of the games, then people will just have to sell their data to the devil (by signing up for the news letter) or spend money on one of their games.

In other words, there's no such thing as a free game. Or at least no such thing as a good free game.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's NES Library With Another Classic Next Week

@batmanbud2 As a big fan of Tetris, there are major differences between different versions of Tetris. Things like controls, movement speed, scoring system, what kind of randomizer they use, how quickly the tetromino locks in place, and how the rotation works in the edge cases (which is tied to whether T-spins are possible or not). Not to mention game modes etc.

Re: Three Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Games Have Been Added To Switch Online's Expansion Pack

KoopaTheGamer

@PinballBuzzbro A couple of objections. First of all, what you're saying is not objective, but 100% subjective. Just saying.

Second of all, the emulation quality for NES, SNES and GBA is quite a bit better on Switch than on Virtual Console (which suffered from bad input latency, not to mention often quite a soft image and ugly colours). Switch online emulators are made by NERD who did generally an excellent job, although N64 is still a work in progress (it's gotten a lot better since launch, though).

Third of all, there are no free alternatives on PC. There are free emulators, but you're not paying for the emulators here. You're paying for the games.

I think 40€/year (that's just over 3€/month) for Expansion pack is not a bad deal. You get the online play, cloud saves, and access to 89 NES games, 75 SNES games, 33 Game Boy games, 39 N64 games, 48 Sega Mega Drive games and 25 GBA games. Then you also get the Mario Kart, Splatoon and Animal Crossing DLC, Tetris 99, F-Zero 99, and recently also access to Nintendo Music. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Re: GTA Trilogy Update Removes Dev From Splash Screen, CEO Responds

KoopaTheGamer

@Flashlink99 It's not only the fault of Grove Street Games. Rockstar's QA really messed up here. They should've tested it properly and not rushed it out before it was finished. Bad quality assurance, too tight schedule and limited funds can break even the greatest developers. And the responsibility of those three is with the publisher.

Re: Take-Two Boss Shares Thoughts On 'Switch 2' And Backwards Compatibility

KoopaTheGamer

@SilentBluntman Unfortunately DLSS isn't just "plug and play". It needs to be implemented by a patch because internally it requires motion vectors in addition to the image itself. That said, I do hope they give developers the opportunity to patch older Switch titles for Switch 2. But in the worst case scenario, Switch 2 should have more than enough raw power to increase the framerate in games that currently struggle.

Re: 'Nintendo Music' Is A New Mobile App Exclusive To Switch Online Members

KoopaTheGamer

@ParadoxFawkes I don't mind unofficial videogame music channels as long as they are not monetized (if they are, they deserve to be taken down). However, official solution is always better, whether it's an app, official Youtube channel or uploading them to Tidal/Spotify/Apple music etc.

That said, I'm glad they didn't go with a Youtube channel because Youtube kind of sucks as a music platform. I wouldn't mind having these tracks on Tidal, though.

Re: Nintendo Patents Filed After Palworld's Release Suggest Lawsuit Prep Started Months Ago

KoopaTheGamer

@IceClimbersMain While I haven't played Palworld, I don't think video game sales are in direct correlation with quality of the game. I think big part of Palworld's success is the "shock" of seeing Pokémon-like characters with guns, and it certainly helps that there aren't many monster catching games on PC/Xbox. Then there's also GamePass which helped.

Now, recent Pokémon games certainly have had their share of issues, and the series has definitely dropped in quality over time. But I don't think sales are a good meter for quality.

Re: Nintendo Patents Filed After Palworld's Release Suggest Lawsuit Prep Started Months Ago

KoopaTheGamer

We don't know much about the case so this is all just speculation and conjecture. I doubt most people here (me included) even know the patent system well enough to comment about it.

As far as I know, patents in US do not have anything to do with a case set in Japan. This article talks about patents that were filed in US after the release of Palworld. But when were they filed in Japan? That's what matters.

Re: Review: SteamWorld Heist II (Switch) - A More Ambitious Caper That Rewards Patience And Planning

KoopaTheGamer

@cyrus_zuo SteamWorld Build wasn't developed internally by Image & From (these days part of Thunderful). This game is. And I'd personally rate it higher than NintendoLife did.

I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised by the challenge in this game. I'm playing on Experienced difficulty (which is the default), and one boss took me three times to beat. There has also been plenty of missions that I've beaten first try, but with only a single survivor. That said, there are two easier settings and two harder settings, not to mention a custom difficulty setting. So plenty of options fitting various skill levels.
