We got two great Prince of Persia titles this year (although The Rogue Prince of Persia was not developed by Ubisoft), but other than that, I haven't played a good Ubisoft game since Rayman Legends. Still, sucks to see people getting laid off.
More competition is always good. Anyway, I think for Xbox handheld it makes more sense to make it a handheld PC similar to Steam Deck or ROG Ally, running Windows (hopefully tweaked to work well with the controller inputs). For Sony, I expect it to run same games as PS5 but with downgraded settings. Should be doable if it's still a few years down the line.
@Shrek_Realista The premise itself (limited releases) is not to my taste. But in addition to that, there have been cases where people have waited for their games for half a year or more, even in cases where their website is claiming that the product is in stock. They're also US based so shipping to Europe is expensive.
@RupeeClock Maybe I sound like a conspiracy theorist, but that's just about the only game from this publisher that people bought. If that doesn't count for you to get the rest of the games, then people will just have to sell their data to the devil (by signing up for the news letter) or spend money on one of their games.
In other words, there's no such thing as a free game. Or at least no such thing as a good free game.
@PipeGuy64Bit They really did not. Sony was trying to take advantage of Nintendo, no doubt about it. While CDi failed, leaving Sony was definitely the right choice.
@batmanbud2 As a big fan of Tetris, there are major differences between different versions of Tetris. Things like controls, movement speed, scoring system, what kind of randomizer they use, how quickly the tetromino locks in place, and how the rotation works in the edge cases (which is tied to whether T-spins are possible or not). Not to mention game modes etc.
@nessisonett They could always use pointer controls so that it basically works similar to a Wii remote. It's not ideal and requires calibration every now and then, but works well enough in some games.
@MeanBeanEgg Hogwarts Legacy is an extremely average/mediocre game with a beautiful world (not on Switch though). I enjoyed exploring the castle, but after a few hours, the gameplay became very boring and repetitive.
@PinballBuzzbro A couple of objections. First of all, what you're saying is not objective, but 100% subjective. Just saying.
Second of all, the emulation quality for NES, SNES and GBA is quite a bit better on Switch than on Virtual Console (which suffered from bad input latency, not to mention often quite a soft image and ugly colours). Switch online emulators are made by NERD who did generally an excellent job, although N64 is still a work in progress (it's gotten a lot better since launch, though).
Third of all, there are no free alternatives on PC. There are free emulators, but you're not paying for the emulators here. You're paying for the games.
I think 40€/year (that's just over 3€/month) for Expansion pack is not a bad deal. You get the online play, cloud saves, and access to 89 NES games, 75 SNES games, 33 Game Boy games, 39 N64 games, 48 Sega Mega Drive games and 25 GBA games. Then you also get the Mario Kart, Splatoon and Animal Crossing DLC, Tetris 99, F-Zero 99, and recently also access to Nintendo Music. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.
@LastFootnote Interesting. In the case of DK Land, GBC palette has brown DK/Diddy on a turquoiseish background, but it seems like on Super Game Boy the characters are brown on brown backgrounds. So to me it seems like GBC palette is superior. But I don't know, maybe there's more to it than I realise.
@Porky Oh, don't get me wrong, I wish it had a way to listen to the music offline as well. My point was that I'm not sure if it makes big enough of a difference to most people for Nintendo to patch it. Especially since the music is in Nintendo Music already.
@Porky I doubt many people would keep playing Splatoon games after the online play closes. I personally really enjoyed the single player, though. But even so, I don't have much interest in playing it again.
@Flashlink99 It's not only the fault of Grove Street Games. Rockstar's QA really messed up here. They should've tested it properly and not rushed it out before it was finished. Bad quality assurance, too tight schedule and limited funds can break even the greatest developers. And the responsibility of those three is with the publisher.
@AnonyQ Perhaps, but it's still kind of a ***** thing to do. They worked on this game so it feels petty to remove them from the splash screens, even if they're still listed on the credits.
This is good news. Highly recommend Arkham Asylum, that is by far the best in the series. Arkham City is good too, and so is Arkham Knight but not on the Switch.
@SilentBluntman Unfortunately DLSS isn't just "plug and play". It needs to be implemented by a patch because internally it requires motion vectors in addition to the image itself. That said, I do hope they give developers the opportunity to patch older Switch titles for Switch 2. But in the worst case scenario, Switch 2 should have more than enough raw power to increase the framerate in games that currently struggle.
Unfortunately it doesn't look smooth at all due to that weird 31.5fps. It's not due to lack of power either, so I hope Sega fixes this and makes it 30fps. That said, it does look very nice otherwise.
@ParadoxFawkes I don't mind unofficial videogame music channels as long as they are not monetized (if they are, they deserve to be taken down). However, official solution is always better, whether it's an app, official Youtube channel or uploading them to Tidal/Spotify/Apple music etc.
That said, I'm glad they didn't go with a Youtube channel because Youtube kind of sucks as a music platform. I wouldn't mind having these tracks on Tidal, though.
@IceClimbersMain While I haven't played Palworld, I don't think video game sales are in direct correlation with quality of the game. I think big part of Palworld's success is the "shock" of seeing Pokémon-like characters with guns, and it certainly helps that there aren't many monster catching games on PC/Xbox. Then there's also GamePass which helped.
Now, recent Pokémon games certainly have had their share of issues, and the series has definitely dropped in quality over time. But I don't think sales are a good meter for quality.
We don't know much about the case so this is all just speculation and conjecture. I doubt most people here (me included) even know the patent system well enough to comment about it.
As far as I know, patents in US do not have anything to do with a case set in Japan. This article talks about patents that were filed in US after the release of Palworld. But when were they filed in Japan? That's what matters.
@stinkyx Not only is it a beautiful game and certainly too much for Switch, but it has some fairly advanced physics simulations as well. But then again, Luigi's Mansion 3 had some very impressive stuff, so who knows? Maybe it could be done if Sony had any interest in it.
@Yalloo I think The Impossible Lair is by far the better of the two. But it really comes down to whether you prefer collectathons or DKC style platformers.
Maybe comparing themselves to Beatles wasn't particularly good idea, but the sentiment isn't actually that bad. If you take risks, sometimes you will inevitably fail. However, if you don't take risks, you will likely never make anything worthwhile.
It's a card game. Nothing needs to be done, except stop giving them artificial value through scarcity. Collectors who are in it for value alone are the worst, and I personally wouldn't mind it if the whole CCG market crashed.
@cyrus_zuo SteamWorld Build wasn't developed internally by Image & From (these days part of Thunderful). This game is. And I'd personally rate it higher than NintendoLife did.
I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised by the challenge in this game. I'm playing on Experienced difficulty (which is the default), and one boss took me three times to beat. There has also been plenty of missions that I've beaten first try, but with only a single survivor. That said, there are two easier settings and two harder settings, not to mention a custom difficulty setting. So plenty of options fitting various skill levels.

Kind of a bummer that it's Limited Run Games, but the game itself looks awesome. I'll be getting the digital version then.
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's NES Library With Another Classic Next Week
@jake1421 The Grand Master 2 is a lot of fun. Although it takes a while to get used to the sonic drop after playing a ton of Tetris with a hard drop.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Donkey Kong Country Returns HD For Switch?
@the_beaver I think 3DS version controlled extremely well, but the game was 30fps which is not ideal for a platformer.

Probably, but not until it's 40€ or less.
