Seems like a solid port. SF6 is by far my favourite fighting game. Not sure if I need a Switch 2 version, but I'm glad they've been able to make a great version of it.
@OldGamer999 I think mouse movements feel noticeably better in 120fps, so having 120fps support in Metroid Prime 4 makes a lot of sense. That said, I think Mario Kart World will play well enough in 60fps, so I'd rather have the improved image quality over 120fps in that game.
@Stwert I'm sure 128GB cards could happen if there is demand for it, but likely at least a few years into the future when they'll be a bit cheaper to manufacture.
@Stwert You're right that there are 120GB games on PS5, Xbox Series X and PC, but that's kind of irrelevant in my opinion. Instead you should look at PS4 or Xbox One games since those are pretty close comparison to Switch 2. Most of the PS4 games fitted into the 50GB Blu-Ray, so I don't think 64GB cards are going to be a huge concern on Switch 2 (especially with that hardware compression).
It's easy to forget that Spider-Man on PS4 was 45GB. Ghost of Tsushima was 50GB before updates/DLC. Kingdom Hearts III was 40GB. Sure, there were also plenty of games that were more than 64GB, but 64GB is still plenty for a lot of games.
@vanYth Indeed, plenty of people prefer D-pad over analogue stick for 2D games. Similarly, a lot of people (me included) prefer digital triggers for digital actions.
Yes, analogue triggers are great for racing games, but digital triggers are better for vast majority of games.
@Kruegerino Oh yeah, I completely forgot about SNES Mini. It was 150€ here in Finland too, even though it had the MSRP of $80 in US and 80£ in Britain.
@Toastmaster "They won't, because Bergsala is the reason why NES were sold outside Japan in 1985."
I don't think that's entirely true. Far as I know, Nintendo already had plans to release Famicom outside of Japan when Bergsten talked to Nintendo about bringing a version of Famicom to their market. Yes, I'm sure they helped Nintendo see that there is interest in Nintendo products in the west, but I don't think Nintendo owes them anything.
@iedutu A lot of people have done exactly that. However, that's not really the point. The point is, it shouldn't be 100€ more expensive for no apparent reason. Sure, the distributor will take a cut, but 100€ cut is way too much.
On the positive side, I think this will positively affect the availability of the device here.
Will all/most third party controllers work on Switch 2 as well? I have a bunch of arcade sticks and other controllers (both wired and wireless) that I would like to use on Switch 2 as well.
I have a Steam Deck and absolutely love it. But I'm going to get Switch 2 as well. Yes, they're both handheld devices with roughly the same performance. But they play very different games. Switch 2 will get the Nintendo games and exclusives, while Steam Deck has a massive library of PC games both old and new.
@Banjo- Should probably wait until the Mario Kart Direct at least before jumping to conclusions about whether this game is worth it or not. They only gave us a small look in the Direct and Treehouse.
Not a big deal, to be honest. If you're not into it, you can just not buy it. The minigames seem entertaining enough for an hour or two, and there's some cool trivia there about the system (based on the Treehouse stream). Not a must-have title, though.
To be fair, Hall Effect sticks aren't the only option for good and durable sticks. For example, they could use TMR sticks which also use magnets but in a different way. Better not jump into any conclusions before we find out what kind of sticks they used and how they hold up.
@mlt Elden Ring is 45GB on PS4 (probably without DLC), so 64GB card would be enough for it. They chose not to use it and went with Game Key card, but it would've fitted just fine.
I think people are used to PS5 games and their gigantic filesizes and have forgotten that PS4 games (which would be the closest comparison point to Switch 2 games) were much smaller, often fitting into the 50GB Blu-Ray.
64GB should be plenty. Remember, this system is roughly as powerful as PS4 which used 50GB Blu-rays. It doesn't need to fit as high quality textures as PS5 games, so it doesn't need nearly as much space on the cartridge.
I'm sure they can later make 128GB carts if necessary, but I doubt it will happen.
@Oracles_fanboi You really need to fact check some of your points.
Nintendo has most cash holdings, but in terms of company value, they are far, far behind companies like Toyota and Sony.
Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom do have new content, as demonstrated on the Direct. Besides, the upgrade is only 10€ (far as I know) for those who already own them.
I really need a source on your point that NSO is their main source of income. Sure, they have over 34 million subscribers, but most of those only pay 20€/year. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold over 67 million copies, Animal Crossing has sold over 47 million and Smash Bros. has sold over 35 million copies as well. All of those are 60€ games, and those are just the best selling ones.
@Dm9982 I don't think they're worried about the NSO subscriber amounts. But if they have a GameCube version already available on the system, I don't think many people would buy the HD remaster. Probably wouldn't be worth the money and effort to port the HD remaster, unfortunately. I'd play it, though.
I was surprised how good the Switch 2 version looks. I've played this game on Steam Deck and it looks pretty awful, no matter what settings you try (if you want to play it 60fps, which you do). This looks much sharper.
Mario Kart 8 still holds up pretty well, but Mario Kart World has so much better image quality. World also has a nice sense of scale, as all of the tracks are in the same, connected world. I also like the new animations because the characters (and even the vehicles, if that makes sense) look so much more alive.
@NintendoSwitch2 @Princess_Lilly Huh? There's nothing unusual about this. Good thing too, I'll be needing a carrying case at least whenever I get a Switch 2.
@hypercoyote Why would or should Nintendo "take an L" for something that they didn't cause? No, it's better to just let the situation pass. I'm pretty sure Trump will back down after realising what a huge mistake he made. I give it a few weeks tops.
@digitalspade To be fair, there are also free upgrades. If Nintendo (or some other developer) spends time developing new content and upgrading the game (not just increasing the resolution), then I think it's fair for the upgrade to cost some money.
That said, the new features in BotW and TotK aren't really something that I care about. The visual upgrade is massive, though, so I'll likely upgrade anyway.
@Galaxy2IsTheGOAT The difference between BotW on Switch and Switch 2 is very noticeable. It's a lot smoother and looks way more detailed too (which it is, going from 900p to 1440p).
Considering we don't know much about it yet, I'm not jumping to any conclusions. Could be worth the price, or maybe not. Sure, I'd prefer it to be free, but it may still be good fun for a few hours.

I was under the impression the whole time that VRR is supported in handheld mode, but TV mode only supports 120hz output. But who knows?

That's fine, the DLC wasn't particularly interesting anyway.

Re: Elden Ring's Switch 2 Physical Version Seemingly Tarnished By 'Game-Key Card' Release

It may not be ideal, but it's not the worst thing in the world either.
