Re: Pokémon TCG Pocket Is Reportedly Already Bringing In The Big Bucks

@milonorth When I found myself wishing there was more "game" to TCG Pocket, I realized that it's there to be a casual card collector over anything else, and it does that super well. Checking in for a few minutes every day, doing quests and a couple battles feels like a bonus and a lot of the appeal is that you don't have to spend hours on progression. Just enjoy the ride, that should be more than enough to keep general attention.

@calbeau Indeed, well said! So many people saying they don't have time to beat their games or do other things but a lot of it comes down to their time management. 168 hours in a week is an insane amount of time if used correctly, and that's even taking into account a full 40-hour week that isn't remote (not as common today), a longer than average commute of 10 hours a week (unrealistic), and a perfect sleep schedule of 8 hours a night (also unrealistic).

That leaves you with 62 hours of free time, and I can't recall a week where chores and errands took even half of that.

@Notsoavid What do you mean?

Penny's Big Breakaway, Pocket Card Jockey, Ender Magnolia, SMT V, Another Crab's Treasure, Pepper Grinder, and other things that we knew were coming soon like Tales of Kenzera and Unicorn Overload look fantastic.

I saw a ton of people excited about Epic Mickey and Endless Ocean coming back too. Not to mention Sega bringing a new entry with Super Monkey Ball, and the 3DS version of Monster Hunter Stories being ported over.

Not sure what there is to dislike here. Lots of variety for everyone

@rainbowtick Not sure how this would be a yawn for you, the variety here is pretty stellar and they showed off quite a lot.

A sequel to Ender Lilies, SMT V, Penny's Big Breakaway, Pepper Grinder, Another Crab's Treasure, and Tales of Kenzera easily made this worth it. Tons of other notable things too.

Expand the horizons my friend. This was far from a snoozefest

@Aaron00 Still a good time to get into Pokemon. If you've only played the first generation and the newest remakes, I'd hate if you missed out on a bunch of quality entries in the series.

  • Heartgold and Soulsilver still hold up and are my personal favorites. ORAS, as well as any of the gen 3 games are amazing.
  • Gen 5 is another personal favorite, both Black/White and their sequels are really well done.
  • If we fast forward to the Switch, Legends Arceus and Let's Go are fantastic Pokemon games. Even Sword/Shield and parts of Scarlet/Violet are fun, but I wouldn't ship those anywhere near top recommendation.
  • A lot of their side games are worth playing too. TCG on the Game Boy, Conquest, Mystery Dungeon, Pokken Tournament, etc. Even things like Pokemon Go and Masters EX have been fun for a more casual experience.
  • Also an honorable mention for Sun & Moon for shaking up the formula, giving us islands and a break from the standard gyms.

Continuing what looks like the last few hours of the masterpiece that is Sea of Stars which I encourage every gamer out there to play through. It's giving TOTK a run for its money when it comes to GOTY!

After that, we're going to continue knocking a few unfinished games off the list:
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky FC
Blasphemous 2
Persona 4 Golden
Elden Ring
