Re: Nintendo Acknowledges Tough Conditions by Cutting Profit and Sales Forecasts

Hotfusion

Having to revise your profit estimates down 51% is extreme. Will it be revised down even further?

I was not long ago reading an article from back in 2010 when Nintendo was considered "doomed" because they only banked US$2.5 BILLION (joking, of course).

Previous to those days Nintendo was averaging around US$800 MILLION a QUARTER.

How times have changed.

1) The same YEN that helped them last year (when they should have been much worst off or even in the red) is now against them.

2) 3DS sales are not as expected (and the Wii U is so bad that any improvement will make it look good).

3) Ammibo???

However, Nintendo must not rush the NX. Although these profits are peanuts compared to what they are used to and the shareholders are not happy, another flopped console and that's it.

It's good thinking to have the phone market in mind, just in case.

Re: 3DS Hardware Sales Dip in Japan, Though Mario & Sonic at the Rio Olympics Gets Off the Blocks

Hotfusion

@diwdiws
Lol. Funny that. I heard the same thing from Japanese based gamers who post on English gaming forums. Plenty of Wii Us around.

What Wii U stock shortage?

A console that sold less than 12m in more than three years should not have a shortage crisis. That's either intentional or bad management.

I have been asking for a link to an official Nintendo statement about this but nothing so far.

Re: Editorial: Triple-A Third Party Games Will Need Creativity as Well as Marketing for NX Success

Hotfusion

@rjejr
Totally agree with both your posts.

However, I still think that the kiddie image that Nintendo loves to cultivate is a major drawback and their fanbase mainly only buy Nintendo games, not third party.

If the first third-party games don't sell well then I think we will be back to square one again. Similar to the mentioned ZombiU which triggered UbiSoft to stop developing "adult" content for the Wii U after Watchdogs.

Where are the "NX is only a handheld" people? They amuse me.

Re: Rumour: Star Fox Zero Facing Development Niggles, Another Delay Could Happen

Hotfusion

@liveswired
I think the negative feedback from its previous showings could be the cause for the delay. Of course I speculate. As others already posted they played it at E3 and it was not good.

The whole thing seemed rather rushed and unplanned. Reading between the lines it seems they never really wanted to do another StArFox and if the Wii U was a success I don't think they would have. Like they don't want FZero or a proper Metroid on the Wii U either.

Re: Editorial: Considering the Recipe For Successful Nintendo Remasters and Re-Releases

Hotfusion

@Mario_Fart
The price is extremely greedy. As you correctly stated most other remakes or refurbished games on other consoles are cut price. Well below in some cases.

Nintendo don't have many home console fans (comparatively speaking) but they know the few they have can be easily exploited.
Why not milk them? I would. It is business.

Hell, I would have already re-release every single Wii game for them to buy all over again at full price in 2016. If they gave the money, take it.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Tackles the Native Resolution and Framerate in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD

Hotfusion

Comparing 1080p Wii U games with the PS4 is kinda pointless considering PS4 games are far more demanding. The PS4 or XBone will chew up this Twilight Princess code and spit it out. That's the reality.

For me, personally, I would have preferred the game with Xbox One 900p resolution and a better frame rate but that's just me. I am happy with 30fps (I am a frame rate junkie. On the PC I always take 60fps at medium settings rather than 30fps at high or ultra) as long as there is not the jittering that was sometimes present in WWHD.

Re: Video: See How Far The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has Come Since the Wii & GameCube

Hotfusion

@arnoldlayne83
If it is indeed full price then I totally agree with you.

I see these remakes as lazy, let's make a quick buck, cunning business. But that's business. I don't blame Nintendo.

If I had played this game before then I would be hard press to spend "full price" money on basically what is the same game with a better resolution, even if I was a billionaire. It's the principal.

As it so happened I bought this game for the Wii many moons ago and before I even got it out of the wrapper I was unexpectedly packing to move abroad.

So I shall be getting it this time around. That's the positive.

Re: Wii U Sales Show Promising Growth Courtesy of Splatoon and Super Mario Maker Success

Hotfusion

Having shifted 100m+ home consoles last gen I find it hard to see anything promising about shifting a pathetic 13m this time around. Hell, even if it made 20m that's still sad. You are only as good as your last battle.
I suppose like many other terms these days "promising" can be subjective.

I am just saying what I think, not starting an argument.

Yes, I credit them as I think they did "OK" considering the situation they are in, but ultimately they are the ones responsible for being there in the first place.

Re: GameStop Survey Suggests We'll See Nintendo NX Within The Next 12 Months

Hotfusion

@gatorboi352
I too am amaze that people still think that the NX is going to be a 2017 release.
It is like they think Nintendo should keep a half dead console alive a little bit longer to satisfy them and not think about their company finances returning to significant profits ASAP. Some even want the NX in 2018.

What is even more amazing and verging on the point of being silly is that people still think it is only a handheld taking into account the company has always contrasted it with the Wii U.

Re: Tatsumi Kimishima Is Aiming To Quadruple Nintendo's Operating Profits

Hotfusion

Nintendo said that the NX will be "herald a new beginning" and "a breakaway from the Nintendo normality". This I assumed meant dropping the kiddie image for mass appeal. Keeping the kiddie image WILL only appeal to people on these forums and other hardcore Nintendo fans. It will not sell home consoles and make them the money they crave.

During the Wii and DS era Nintendo printed money. Now they are RELATIVELY peasants.

In a nutshell, associating this "new concept" to hardware is exciting but for it to succeed Nintendo needs a rethink of its image. Things have moved on.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo Titles Miss the UK Top 40 Once Again

Hotfusion

I can understand MS being frustrated with Japan considering the fortune they spent promoting their consoles in that country with pitiful results.

But for UK Nintendo worshippers thinking that Nintendo products don't deserve the bad sales and rep it gets in Britain are missing the point.
Nintendo put jack into the UK for promoting and marketing. They deserve the same back. Nothing.

Re: Black Friday Sales Bring Little Joy for Nintendo in the UK

Hotfusion

No surprises here. The Wii U is seen as a silly, childish console by the majority of UK gamers. Actually that probably goes for the way Nintendo are viewed.

To have success in the UK they need to change this image. If not they need to "drop" the UK and push this image much more where it has more appeal like N.America and Japan.

Re: Talking Point: The NX Hype Will Ramp Up as Nintendo Steps Into a Vital New Era

Hotfusion

This is like deja vu. I recall these same conversations when the Wii U was an unknown entity. Pure speculation reigned. That's life in a ninty fan's world.

@xenocity
Nintendo spent a great deal of time and money promoting their "for kids and family" image. In many ways this is what is biting them on the backside because no one can do "kiddie" like Nintendo.

Nintendo need to market the NX as an "all round" gaming system because I really don't see much mileage left in the "kiddie" system as the Wii U clearly proves. The kiddie console age is over.

Re: Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima to Stick With Smart Device and IP Plans, Previously Predicted Wii U Troubles

Hotfusion

I know this is easy to say retrospectively but any fool could have predicted Wii Us failure. If by saying "being too much like the Wii " he is pointing out that it was too gimmicky and underpowered then I totally agree.

None the less the fact that he made this statement is comforting, unlike yes-men like 'you know who'.

Time will tell how this works out and I wish him all the best but I do wish they had gone for someone younger and more dynamic... I suppose he can still be dynamic if not young.

Re: Hands On: Devil's Third - Sampling Online Chaos and Fearing the Devilry of Microtransactions

Hotfusion

@dariusq
I totally agree with you. I have really enjoyed games that got less than mediocre reviews.
The problem with this one - at least for me - is that the only reason I would buy this is for the multiplayer. In other words I will not buy it because only the most optimistic of fans will expect to find enough players in the online lobby at any given time to really enjoy the game.

I do not see this selling more than the COD game we had - nowhere near - and that lobby was pretty much non-existent (based on European timezone) and not much better globally.

Re: Speculation Grows That AMD Will Provide the Nintendo NX Processor

Hotfusion

Backwards compatibility just adds cost to the system if they are moving away from Power PC architecture.

Unlike 99% of the people on this forum I do not want BC. I want Nintendo to keep their promise which is to "START FROM ZERO".

If they lose a couple million fanboys because of BC that's no big deal. Look to replace them with triple that amount of new owners.

Start from zero, a new beginning. This should be a new horizon for Nintendo and this is what excites me about NX if Nintendo delivers.

Re: First Impressions: Trying to Believe in Devil's Third

Hotfusion

@Henmii
I couldn't agree with you more. It just seems like brain dead violence without any fun or style factors.

This wouldn't sell on the PS or Xbox, even their fanboys have too much class for this game.... and that's saying a lot.
Then again if it was good eye candy they probably would buy it.

The only thing I would consider getting this game at a bargain basement price for would be the multiplayer, but then I don't expect to find a full and healthy lobby so it's probably not even worth that either.

I would be very surprise if this game breaks even. Then again some Wii u only owners are desperate for 18+ games on the system so would buy any old rubbish.

Even the most supportive and bias Nintendo fan sites reports that this game is a horrible mess.

Re: Editorial: Satoru Iwata Embodied The Playful Brilliance of Nintendo, and His Legacy Will Endure

Hotfusion

I remember reading that Iwata had operation(s) recently. He was obviously not in very good health. Why, oh why did he just not give up his position as CEO?

I am not saying that it would have definitely prolonged his life but surely the stresses of Nintendo's recent situation (first recorded losses in history and smallest profit margins) didn't help.

He watched over some of the greatest games Nintendo (or anyone for that matter) ever put on a console as well as Nintendos greatest home console success.

He captained the ship through the best and worst of times at Nintendo.

For me his greatest achievements financially is more significant than the losses that came after. In a strange way the billions he made more than covered the mistakes that came later under his management. RIP.

Re: Devil's Third Will Be Released In North America, Just Not By Nintendo

Hotfusion

This game smells more like absolute rubbish the more this NoA issue rumbles on.

Does it really matter if Nintendo or someone else sells this game in N.America?
Why all the fuss?

Some Nintendo fans are do damn desperate to have an adult 18+ shooter on the Wii U that they intend to buy this game no matter how bad it can possibly turn out to be. I hope it turns out good but I wouldn't bet my mother in law on it.

@FLUX_CAPACITOR
In the UK the "very young" don't buy Wii Us or really care for Nintendo. Maybe where you are from they do but from my experiences ( and I don't claim them to be scientific ) Nintendo home consoles are generally owned by adults over 30 and thus will most likely be the people frequenting and commenting on this site.

Also, from months of reading comments by the most frequent posters on this forum, many recall playing the N64 and earlier consoles so unless you are like 100 years old and consider people in their 30s "very young" I disagree with you. They may act immature but that's a mental state of being.

Re: Talking Point: Raw Power Isn't Vital to Nintendo's NX, But It Does Matter

Hotfusion

Great to see so many of you understand that gaming has greatly evolved and to keep going over previous generations is pointless.

Nintendo has now hopefully learned this. Gone are the days when every console had its own micro architecture, it's own media format etc.,
Cost of developing games meant at some point things must converge.

What N64 did in the Ninties is irrelevant. PS was not the most powerful console but the PS4 is. Sony believes in 2015 power will matter. MS believes power matters. Developers believe power matters and every indication points to the fact the people buying consoles think so too. Nintendo and a lot of their fans don't, however.

It's not rocket science, to get a bigger market share the NX needs to attract much more people than the Wii U.

Simple market research ( excluding Nintendo fans ) will clearly show why no one cares for Nintendo home consoles apart from a dwindling fanbase.

The biggest negative ( and laugh ) from other fanboys and to be honest the general gamer was Wii U's power. Before the thing even launched every single story on the Internet and media was about developers saying it being "weaker than the 360". It was regarded as a joke.

Nintendo games are great but they are appealing to a quickly shrinking userbase, not the general public.

Nintendo listened to their "fans" when they said they don't care for power or online. In Nintendo forums this is generally the case, or was. They all pretty much defended the Wii U's lack of power.

The problem is that Nintendo can no longer sustain a home console on these small number of fans. They need to give the general consumer what they want and if that's power or a gimmick (or both) then they better deliver.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo NX Won't Be As Powerful As PlayStation 4

Hotfusion

Why do some people think NX is just an handheld? Is it a deliberate attempt not to face up to reality?

Why would any sane person compare a console with a handheld and say it would not be more powerful than the console?

Why would Nintendo be reported "selling the NX" to developers at E3? Talking to developers that reporters state have nothing or very little to do with handheld gaming?

You are just deluding yourselves thinking NX is just a handheld.

I still think that it is a combo based on the initial description or code name "fusion".

I think such a console must be pretty weak to keep cost down.

After E3 I think Nintendo are totally confuse about what the public wants, let alone their few fans.

What happened to "QoL"?

The past is the past. Gaming and gamers have evolved so constantly going on about previous gens to find answers is totally misleading.

In 2015 hardware matters, look at the sales. Third parties matter.

If NX lacks both then the only people buying this console will be the surviving fanboys and Nintendo cannot survive on that. If it was about Nintendo games as some suggested Wii u would be by far the bestseller.

@Mona-Reggie
The very foundations, the very existence of the USA was based on extreme racism. Wiping out races of people by the tens of millions and enslaving others. It is so easy to forget that they are still blacks that can remember what it was like not being able to vote and not go to certain places.

Yes, it is definitely not as bad as it was then but the general consensus is that since Obama it has gotten worse than the beginning of this century.

Trying to pretend racism doesn't exist is delusional. The laws may have changed in America but the hearts of many people hasn't.

I spent some time living in Texas ( I am from the UK) and was amazed at how behind close doors the deep racism that resides there. I speak from as a white person being " enlightened" by other white people.

Re: Project H.A.M.M.E.R. Exposé Reveals Torrid State Of Affairs At Nintendo Software Technology

There is nothing wrong with nationalism. But like everything else it can be taken to deadly extremities. Every time an attack on America happens they all get nationalistic and want to destroy something. But that's OK, that's considered good nationalism, I guess.

Is westerner a race? Oh, they were referring to non-Japanese.

Sounds like something G.W. Bush would say... or Trump.

Re: Talking Point: The Pros, Cons and Questionable Likelihood of a Nintendo NX Release in Summer 2016

Hotfusion

The Wii U is never going to make significant money (if any) from a pathetic 10m sales. If you break down and compare Nintendo financial report with previous years it points to the Wii U in the negative (some analysts did the breakdown to prove Nintendo profits are 3DS reliant. The article made sense to me, but probably wouldn't to those with Nintendo glasses).

What is the point of keeping a console on life support to please a few fanboys while your profits are a fraction of what they were? You can give it all the games in the world but they ain't going sell blockbuster on such a small userbase.

MS ditched the Xbox after four years because it was not profitable, or more to the point not competitive, knowing MS.

This is business. Not a video game. A business aim is to make as much money as possible and cut off dead weight. A console selling worse than the Dreamcast is dead weight.

Every month with it is a month further away from returning to POSSIBLE major success.

Around September next year is my bet. July is the slow time.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Pitched NX To Third Parties During E3 2015

@JakeOfAllTrades
"I'm almost sure that Nintendo would lose a large following if they just imitated Sony and Microsoft...."

How much bigger a following can you lose when your home console sales go from 100m to 10m? Maybe they should have followed Sony and MS.

There is no "large following" to lose from the Wii U pathetic fanbase.

In console terms base on last gen a large following would probably consist of over 50m user base. The Wiiu can't lose what it doesn't have.

Re: Talking Point: The Mystery of Devil's Third and Its Drift Away from the Spotlight

Hotfusion

For all we know the game could be absolutely rubbish. I will wait for the reviews before even thinking about buying this game. NoA seems to be distancing themselves from it, which could mean anything.

I love the childish logic that some present. Nintendo keep quiet about this game at E3 where it had the potential to reach hundreds of millions so they can rather hold a Direct for it and reach a handful.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Approach to Transforming Franchises Clashes With Fan Expectations

Hotfusion

In many cases Nintendo fans are the reason that the company is where it is right now with the Wii U.

I clearly remember long before the Wii U was launched fans on forums saying they don't want a powerful console (another way put it is "We don't care about graphics"). They didn't care about game chat or online gameplay in most games.

Nintendo obviously read these forums for even now they are following these "request" with StarFox, a game with basic graphics and no online.

Iwata made a very interesting and thought provoking statement when he said with NX they are "starting from zero again". I really hope he means that.
Nintendo's aim should not be keeping the few million Wii U fans, they cannot maintain a home console with such small numbers - I say it is probably best to lose most of them - but gaining tens of millions more new ones with the NX. Yes, start from a relative zero.

Re: Nintendo Isn't Talking About NX Because It Doesn't Want Rivals To Steal Its Ideas

Hotfusion

All these so-called "innovations" have one thing in common where Nintendo is concerned.

Invest heavily in the gimmick and keep the hardware specs of the main console very basic to cut cost spent on the gimmick.

I really don't see Sony or MS "stealing" that idea.

The Wii remote, the Wii U Gamepad, the NX ???? All gimmicks with hardware significantly weaker than the competition. Yeah, I have called it on the NX.

Developing new "innovations" and adding good powerful processors and graphics will be far too expensive. Expect the usual gimmick and slightly better hardware than the Wii U.

I have started a book, how much and what type of RAM will the NX have on the main console? - Yes, let's stop the silly debate about it being only a handheld, that's now beyond stupid.

Re: Talking Point: E3 Highlighted Nintendo's Development Shift Towards NX, and Away from Wii U

Hotfusion

Fanboys have no sense of economics. The only thing painting a pretty picture on Nintendos financial report is the value of the yen.

The Wii U is not going to make Nintendo any richer. Actually most analyst has often pointed out Nintendo is living of the 3DS.

Yet they should keep this sales disaster of a console going for another two years to please the fanboys. Grow up.

Now the word on the street is that the Wii U is on death row, watch the already rubbish sales become more rubbish.

Can't believe some people think the Wii U is going to remarkably turn it around. That is more delusional than Hitler thinking he would win the war in 1945.

Re: Tablets Stole The Wii U's Thunder, Laments Shigeru Miyamoto

Hotfusion

If Nintendo want the NX to sell more than 5m they need third party support.
Without third-party support and a "weaker than PS4" console the only people buying that console are members of this site (and similar sites).

Those that end statements with "... that's good enough for me."
Examples:
"Graphics are poor but that's good enough for me" or "no online but that's good enough for me" and "console is weak but that's good enough for me".

I really can't wait to see what Nintendo can possibly produce with the NX to bring consumers back. Their games? Didn't work for the Wii U. Unlike the Wii generation when the biggest selling games were ALL Nintendo, I doubt by the end of this gen Wii U will have a game in the top 20, maybe MK8 might scrape it. Nintendo games don't sell enough consoles anymore.

Nintendo need to go back to the basics, that's what I think. A good solid console that gives consumers no reason not to buy it.

If they can eliminate the two main excuses "it's too weak" and "no third party support" they stand a chance. Throw in a good steady amount of their big games with some new stuff and things can get better.

£44.99 is WAAAAY to much for this game. Splatoon@£30.00 (or less) was the right price. This game should be the same price... or less.

I understand sometimes the worth of something is what you are willing to pay for it. Some people will willingly pay £60.00 or $100US for this game. Nothing wrong with that but I won't pay more than £30 for it.

At that price it is not going to do well in the UK.
