When Pikmin 3 arrived in summer 2013, it ended a long and generation-spanning wait for fans of one of Shigeru Miyamoto's freshest franchises. Disregarding Wii re-releases it had been around nine years since Pikmin 2 on GameCube.
The wait for Pikmin 4, however, looks set to be far shorter. Speaking to Eurogamer recently, Shigeru Miyamoto has stated that the next entry in the series is "actually very close to completion", though wouldn't be drawn on its platform. Nintendo followed up with an official statement - "We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present."
The fact it's so far along in development points to a possible Wii U release, though there's also the possibility that it could be held back for the to-be-announced NX platform.
Of course there's a slim chance - at least we think it's slim - that this could be a project for the DeNA partnership to bring games to iOS and Android. We find it unlikely that a franchise so dear to Shigeru Miyamoto would switch over to smart devices with a main numbered entry, especially considering the nature of the game experiences of the first three titles, but it can't be completely ruled out.
Miyamoto-san resisted giving any detail, but in acknowledging its development progress clearly made a tactical decision to build some anticipation for the title in good time.
Are you excited to hear about Pikmin 4 being on the way? Which platform would you like it to be on - Wii U, NX or even smart devices? Let us know.

Well, that announcement was quite unexpected.
Why does Nintendo have to be so cryptic all the time?
I'd love it if we could just get one solid answer about something... ONCE.
So happy for this. I will buy it whatever it comes out for
Sweet. I thought we wouldn't see another for a while, but this is one of my favorite series.
I say move it to NX. Launch it next to Mario Galaxy 3, and we've got a system, baby.
I hope it's not on some small hand device
I did actually enjoy pikmin 3 very much. Very curious about pik4 specifics. Console, story, mechanics, etc.
Probably an NX game. But hyyyyype.
Well that came out of nowhere.
WHAT?
Wii U please! Totally hyped up for it!
You had me at Pikmin 4. YES!
Okay, if they're not announcing Pikmin 4 in a Direct, that means were definitely not getting one this year.
Well, this certainly came out of left field.
@manu0 probably an NX launch title I'm guessing.
sweet baby jesus
I'll take NX launch title over iOS game any day, please let this be a full blown game and not a smartphone 'experience' Nintendo!
@WaveBoy You probably mean that Nintendo doesn't like taking risks with the print runs. Pikmin 3 is hanging onto $60 and we're only two years off release.
Anyway, since I can't find a physical copy of Pikmin 3, here's to hoping that Pikmin 4 will be for U!
Whichever console it's on, I'm hoping that it's significantly longer than Pikmin 3.
I was really enjoying it, then it was suddenly over... it seemed to end just way too soon.
3DS maybe?
@WebHead
I wouldn't be surprised if they pull a Twilight Princess. Launch on NX then a few months later a Wii U release as thank you to those who supported the console and aren't upgrading right away.
I find it unlikely Pikmin could exist on a 3ds screen, let alone a mobile. But I do think it's good news another Pikmin 4 hasn't taken that long. Whatever platform it appears on, it looks like Nintendo have got their act together with HD development.
OK, that's it. Time to stop playing a lot of Splatoon and start playing Pikmin 3.
Aw, who am I kidding?
Anyway, I'm glad Pikmin 4 is a thing. As much as I'd like to think the opposite, I don't see it landing on Wii U. I hope I'm wrong, though!
Well, 3 is one of my fave on the U, so bring it on! On U, of course. NX is still too far away. Hopefully.
3DS or NX please. DO NOT release that on mobiles. That'd be a loss of a franchise.
@Gamer83 probably the other way around but yeah. Perhaps Wii U version for early 2016 and a port as a day one NX launch title for holiday 2016.
All Pikmin games are really boring.
And why isn't Nintendo making a spinoff game of this lame series? No, it gets the full game treatment (unlike Animal Crossing).
It's probably for Wii U because it's said to be almost complete.I'm not interested in the game though. I bought Pikmin 3 and never got around to playing it.I sold it for about as much money as I got it for.
Well that came out of nowhere. Still very cool though.
I guess this makes sense. They spent a lot of time on the Pikmin 3 engine on Wii U, so making a sequel should be pretty easy. I'm not a fan of Pikmin though.
It's probably a Wii U game, but even if it's an NX game, the announcement is surprising period! Still haven't played through 3, but its worth taking the effort to do so.
They certainly know how to surprise us.
@bezerker99 I hope this isn't bait...
Which game did you play? I won't be surprised if it's the second - the one with no time limits and is geared for exploration.
While I hope this would be on the 3DS, this is most probably for the NX.
I'd never tried Pikmin till the Mario Kart 8 free game promotion... absolutely love the game, so does my son, he's only four and he can practically beat it by himself!
Wii U is impossible, but NX or even 3DS is very possible
I actually think a Pikmin would make for an interesting mobile game, but if they called it 4 there would be an uproar.
Happy but at the same time we only got Pikmin 3 a bit ago, I hate how hypocritical Miyamoto is about games he likes getting new entries.
As expected! I'm glad the wait isn't as long as last time. I'm expecting a Wii U release, but who knows? I'm looking forward to it.
@TheWPCTraveler I have played the original Pikmin on Gamecube and I own Pikmin 3 on Wii U. I never play it because it's really boring to me.
And why is my opionion always considered click bait? lol, it's just my opinion.
Please don't suggest it as a mobile phone entry...
Anyway, it would be awesome as a launch line up for NX. Or it could be a fine direct sequel to Pikmin 3 to serve Wii U in the end of it's lifespan.
Could be New 3ds ir most likely WiiU since it has been a short time since 3 and they are focusing in reusing existing assets to shorten dev cycles
Yes! I was honestly a little worried for the series. I love pikmin so much! Please let it be on a home console not some crappy phone game or handheld please
Hmmm....maybe a NX launch title?
@bezerker99 Could you at least bother spelling "opinion" right the first time when responding about why you obviously don't like a series? Also, don't EVER use the "it's my opinion" excuse. Such a cop-out argument to escape criticism.
@MrWarner14 I'm not a mensa candidate like yourself. I will do my best going forowarde
Didn't beat Pikmin 3 yet, but liked it. I'll give this a shot.
@bezerker99 Now you're just trolling me. What's with the blatant misspellings?
If it's on Wii U I will buy it day one! Pikmin 3 is one of my favorite games of the past 30 years.
@MrWarner14 that second post was an intentional misspelling. The first post wasn't. Sorry, i'm on a cell phone and my fat fingers can't type that good on it.
I am not a very descriptive person so I can't really justify me not liking the Pikmin series other than i find it boring. I even received Pikmin 3 free from Club Nintendo and I never play it (got to day 4 and ended up moving on to another game). To this day I still wish'd I had selected New Super Mario Bros U as my free Club Nintendo download over Pikmin 3. (btw, the original Pikmin is the only video game out of probably hundreds...that I rented and didn't play more than 5 minutes). I can't explain my dislike other than it does't "capture" my attention.
Hope that's a better answer than the 'cop-out' answer i said earlier!
Wii U, please let it be for the Wii U!
If it was for WiiU, I think they would have said that and not been so secretive. While it's possible they haven't decided yet, my guess is it'll be on NX. I doubt it'll be a smartphone game (though it would actually be the big franchise that's most compatible with smartphones), but maybe it will be cross platform - home, NX, and maybe smartphones as well.
My guess is that Pikmin 4 is reusing a lot of assets from Pikmin 3. Much like comparing Spirit Tracks to Phantom Hourglass. If that's the case, a Wii U release is pretty likely.
@Dezzy For the 3DS would be awesome too!
Miyamoto must have started work on this right away after Pikmin 3's release. I remember that game got delayed big time because Nintendo was just figuring out HD graphics at the time.
Almost certain its NX bound. They said they won't say any details about NX till next year which is probably why the platform is "unclear"...
Well that was not the news I expected to hear today. Awesome!
I love pikmin, it's a great series, so for me this awesome news! NX or Wii U, idc, GIVE ME!
Ouh Yeah! This has got me excited, Pikmim 3 is one of Wii U's best games. Can't wait for 4
Well, that came out of nowhere.
BE STILL MY BEATING HEART
Can't be on mobile. Maybe 3DS. Probably uses the same engine and some models as Pikmin 3, so a Wii U release is definite. I think it will be like Pikmin 2 and will be ported to NX.
WiiU and NX please
I'm gonna go ahead and say this isn't 100% confirmed yet. I'm finding it hard to believe that Mr. Miyamoto and Nintendo would both tell Eurogamer this information, and not say a word directly to the public.
I think I would cry if Pikmin 4 came out as a smartphone game, as the Pikmin series are my favorite games ever.
@ThomasBW84 Seriously, do your research. Miyamoto announced info on an upcoming Pikmin game almost a year ago (to the shareholders), and in the context it was mentioned the platform is pretty much given.
There are two real possibilities for platform.
1) Wii U
The engine is there, assets are made, this would be an easy game to make.
2) NX Portable
Recent rumors indicate a Portable NX launching in 2016 with the Console NX following 6-12 months after. Supposedly "slightly more powerful than Vita" which would be enough to finally run Pikmin on a handheld.
dies
Wii U or NX, or get out. I refuse to get it if it's on mobile.
I been wanting to give the Pikmin series a try, I have the first two Pikmin games sitting in my closet collecting dust.
Oh man so freaking hype. I hope it's a Wii U game rather than a handheld one, as much as I would love either. The HD visuals were too good to go back on
I would say a unannounced Wiiu project. If the U is gonna be around another year and a half there will have to be some other games for it. Using the Pikmin 3 assets and making a new game seems really viable. We'll probably hear an official word soon.
Woah!!!!! Best Nintendo news I've heard all year!!
I literally just purchased Pikmin 3 last night... Well, better start playing!
Awesome! I hope it's for wiiu - I thought the gamepad complimented this game well. Will we have to direct four olimar-types? That seems to be the trend with each release.
This could be the first game announced exclusively for the NX. Makes me think the NX could be with us sooner than we thought.
Zelda, Pikimin, Animal Crossing, Wave Race and Metroid should all be launch titles!
The original Pikmin for the Game Cube frustrated me with it's time limits, so I've never tried a newer one. I think I should try out Pikmin 3.
This announcement would have almost saved E3. Good news definitely.
That's surprising, and awesome, news, whether it comes to the Wii U or the NX. I'm glad it won't be another 9 year wait for a new Pikmin game.
This is what I wanted to hear, but it really makes me want a direct. A Wii U release is most likely if it's not releasing in holiday 2016, or beyond.
I'd love another one on Wii U. Pikmin 3 was great, but having something a little heavier on content, like Pikmin 2, would be awesome.
Wow... that came out of no where!
I wonder what is it, if they only started pikmin 3 after pikmin 4 that's a pretty short development time..
Great. Now how about getting more copies of 3 and other games back in stores so I can replace the ones that were stolen from me? Twice.
An NX launch title would make sense, maybe it would be good for showing off its capabilities.
Anyway, I thought Lucas came out of nowhere...
That is awesome! I was afraid 3 would be the last one! Will be getting this day one no matter the system.
@SanderEvers Totally
I need to pay this on my large 72" HD projector - not a smartphone or tablet. . but very excited about this! Awesome news!
I'm thinking it will be a direct sequel that will use many of the same assets from the last Pikmin game. It's the only way I can see how it could be made so quickly, unless it's just some kind of spin-off crap like a few other recent Nintendo games.
Eh, let it be on NX. It'll be good for the NX to have a solid launch title. We've already got a Wii U Pikmin game. Though I certainly won't complain if it's on Wii U, and I have less of a reason to buy the NX right away. It might encourage them to make it a different-enough experience, if they release it on a platform that already has one. But all the Wii U really needs is a Zelda game. If and when we get that, I can consider my Wii U library complete.
Yes!! I love the Pikmin series so much!! >u<
I really hope this isn't a DeNa project, and I doubt it is. Pikmin is meant to have beautiful visuals, only made possibly by consoles and not smart phones.
I am so hyped for this game, I really hope it'll continue the story of Pikmin 3.
Oh and let's not forget, NEW PIKMIN TYPES!! (I wish...)
I wush it would be in Wii U but unlikely. I won't buy an NX until price drop. I remember purchasing my wii u a few months before an unexpected price drop on Wii U. The same thing will probably happen on NX.
Isn't it obvious that it'll be on the NX?
I don't get Nintendo. How long has it been sitting on this? Why do they showcase the stupid Animal Crossing board game thing at E3, but drop a bomb like this on some completely random news day when a ton of people are going to miss it?
The only way that I can explain this behavior is that this is going to be an NX launch title and they didn't want to scare off further Wii U sales with a bunch of great game announcements for a new system.
That...certainly came out of the blue.
@Ralizah Its due to cancelation backlashes. Remember what happened to Capcom after Megaman Legends 3 / Universe ?
They never really recovered from this.
If Nintendo announces games that are definitly going to come and are already close to being finished, they dont have to cancel it openly should the project turn out to be a failure.
I can certainly understand it, but youre right in that such a game would have caused quite a ruckus at e3 and, should it have been planned for the NX would have also generated some "1st day purchase" impulses for some fans.
@Ralizah I agree completely. That this wasn't even mentioned at E3 is baffling, it must be for NX, though that wouldn't quite explain the 'very close to completion' thing.
Hopefully the game is as long as Pikmin 2 with more of a Story as well as the Underground along with Pikmin 3's Gameplay mechanics with "Go Here" from the game being there now, multi-tasking is a lot more easier to do.
Looking forward to seeing what new Pikmin types will appear in this game, assuming that only 2 will be introduced with Red, Yellow and Blue also being available to use during the main story with White, Purple, Winged and Rock all being playable in Mission Mode.
Not sure who'd I'd prefer out of Olimar and Louie or Alph, Brittany and Charlie being the story focus, but I do hope all 5 have some sort of main role in the game, heck it could even be Olimar, Alph, Brittany and Charlie having to collect treasure while rescuing Louie, at the end of Pikmin 3, Louie was left behind and the Pikmin 3 main characters didn't notice and Alph claims "he'll be fine", kind of the only thing that keeps me thinking against the idea of Olimar teaming up with them, Olimar didn't respect Louie much anyway, but the President probably told him to get him back again.
Given the short turn around, it's most likely using the same engine and reusing a lot of the same assets from Pikmin 3. So it's most likely a Wii U release with a possible port to NX, depending on when the NX console releases (I'm expecting there to also be an NX handheld that releases first) and if it's backwards compatible.
@OddworldCrash you should, Pikmin one made me a nervous wreck. Haven't touched Pikmin until I got a free download code for Pikmin 3 and it blew me away. However, you still have a day/night cycle but there is no limit to the amount of days you have as long as you keep a healthy supply of fruit juice. Plus the gamepad works brilliantly with 3.
@TomJ, That's because I don't think anybody knew. This is a brand new announcement of the project, I'm pretty sure.
I never was a fan of the mission mode and DLC in Pikmin 3, and I kinda want them to dump it for a bigger adventure/story mode in Pikmin 4.
Also, the time limit, which is rather generous in Pikmin 3, is unsettling for many. I prefer Pikmin 2's more relaxed approach where time is just a highscore factor.
And finally, I never made much use of the multitasking in Pikmin 3. I only switched characters when it was needed for 100%. I just like finishing things one by one. Controlling more than 2 characters at once was a bit too much for me. Didn't help that the mission mode was based entirely on multitasking all 3 characters.
With my hopes and fears out of the way I hope Pikmin 4 is to Pikmin 3, what Pikmin 2 is to Pikmin 1 - and it has to land on Wii U.
Just got back from the ER after having a heart attack reading this announcement. Had no idea they would develop a pikmin 4 so soon. I thought they would just keep going with dlc. I'm guessing this may be for NX which I certainly hope it is. I'll be buying it day one if this is a release title.
I hope its a dual platform release for this game.
I very much doubt it'll be for wii u, my best guess is new 3ds if it's that close to completion, otherwise NX
@SKTTR. Pikmin 3 multitasking took me a couple playthroughs to grasp but it is super satisfying and honestly I feel like it is a skill that has translated to my real life job as a manager.
Jeez, if Pikmin 4 was on mobile I think I'd throw up. Thankfully, chances of that seem slim to none. Definitely excited to see a new Pikmin is coming, though!
@bezerker99 I did the same as you, I chose Pikmin3 as my free game with Mario Kart 8 as I'd never played the series before... I tried it and it didn't grab me but I was too busy playing MK8 to really care... but I eventually gave it another shot and I ended up adoring the game, my son too. I hope you give it another try!
....I'm already guessing iOS....so...yeah.
Clearly going to be on PS4
I hope it includes dual screen and online coop story mode and more than 5 areas this time.
Considering it's almost the 10th anniversary of the franchise, it probably will probably come out next year unless there is a delay by underestimating the development cycle again.
@Nintenjoe64
Darn it all! Sony gets EVERYTHING.
Hopefully it's an NX game and that it's actually a launch title this time. Can't wait to see what it's like! 😊
I'd want to see pick min on a hand held game console. The game would be nice for 3ds owners. And they can use the same concept like the wii u
This sounds like Galaxy 2: a lot of unused ideas and reused assets. But then again Galaxy 2 was awesone so bring it on!
This also proves how a lot of people seem to say Nintendo does not have a lot of games until they drop surprise announcements like this.
Welp, time to wait and see...
@brandonbwii
PS4 - Pikmin Station 4
Awesome!
Depending on how close to completion the game really is, this could be the title that fills the May slot, with SMTxFE and Pokken before that.
@brandonbwii ...Pikmin 1 was released in 2001. The 10th anniversary has already come and gone.
Pikmin is virtually the only strategy game series I play so you can bet that this is a definite purchase for me. If it is for NX I just want it to also be released on Wii U in a similar way to Twilight Princess was for the Gamecube. More Pikmin is always welcome!
I hope it's not 3DS. I would be okay with it being on NX, since that could only mean a better looking and more intensive Pikmin game. But the fact that it's "nearly finished" means that unless the NX is going to get an announcement soon and Pikmin 4 is a launchtitle, I think it's going to be a Wii U game. Think about it: 2 Gamecube games, 2 Wii U games. It would be thematically fitting.
Very unexpected and also very excited too!!
Thank you based Miyamoto.
I guess the animations were evidence enough Nintendo aren't done with the series, but I'm glad there's this confirmation. Whatever the platform is I'm looking forward to it and if it's a NX launch title I'll be there day 1.
@amanatee i rather it come out on wii u to keep up the tradition of 2 pikmin games per system.
OH my gods what????
So much yes!!!!!!!!!
I may be the only one to suggest 3DS. It doesn't make a whole lot of business sense, but it's a possibility.
@Totaldude911 I recall reading Miyamoto said they tried demoing Pikmin on 3DS before the system released but the screen size and resolution paired with Pikmin's regular zoomed out camera made the individual Pikmin into a tiny collection of pixels that were hard to distinguish.
They need a large screen with a relatively high resolution for the series gameplay since it's a game where you really need to have a good view of the surrounding area with a lot of small characters.
I was not expecting this at all. Thank goodness! Pikmin is a treasure of treasures. Woohoo!
I loved Pikmin 3 on Wii U. It was possibly my favorite game this generation so far. Pikmin 4 on Wii U would be a day one purchase for me, no doubt.
I know everyone has said this, but I'm really hoping it isn't a mobile game. Wii U preferably, although the thought of having Pikmin on the go with a 3DS is pretty fascinating.
I hope we hear something about it in the next few months, otherwise it's probably an E3 reveal with the NX.
Definitely won't be smartphone. 3DS or NX handheld for me. No need to release this on Wii U.
Pikmin as a handheld title is much more appealing to me.
Whoooooo!!!! I'm soo happy to hear this is coming.....I'm thinking Wii u only, possibly with some kind of 3ds option. I don't like all this NX talk regarding future games, I prefer to get facts before I can get too excited for future platforms.
After all the waiting for pikmin 3 over two platforms I would rather they make another using the current engine while it's up and running. It's allot more work to program for ANOTHER new console!!
The fact that this is even a question - Which platform? Speaks volumes.
NX then. Great news either way.
Well I'd say put it on Wii U first and then port to NX later - after all, they ported the Gamecube versions onto the Wii.
A pleasant surprise. NX launch title makes most sense to me.
So happy about this! I would like to have it on Wii U to mirror having 1&2 on Gamecube. Then another 9 year wait is in order, so that Pikmin 5 can have photo realistic graphics.
I loved Pikmin 3 so I already can't wait for this sequel. If its on Wii U then please make better ground textures this time, other than that it's one of the best looking Wii U games.
I am also very welcome to it being a NX launch title. Hype!
Good news for Pikmin fans
New Nintendo 3DS would be a good fit.
I love Pikmin. 3 was great.
Hoping for a Wii U release. I enjoyed Pikmin 3 and the short movies a lot.
I would like it to be NX launch title. With port of incoming Zelda Wii U and new 3D Mario game.
What I expect from Nintendo's NX: this game, Super Mario Galaxy 3, the next Metroid, Zelda U (if it gets ported to the NX), a new F-Zero, the next Super Smash Bros. (if it happens), and if the Nintendo NX has the ability to run the Unreal Engine.
So that's both this and Pokémon Tournament that could have featured at E3.
My guess that it'll be a NX title. If it was only coming to the Wii U and it's almost complete, then I would have expected it to have been announced at E3.
@crimsontadpoles You could say the same thing for Pokken Tournament and Zelda U. Those games weren't shown at E3, but we know they're coming for the Wii U.
Of course, there's still a possibility that the games mentioned might be ported over to NX (I just want them NOW, on the Wii U), so...
EDIT: I would very much love to see this game on either the New 3DS or Wii U. In fact, this game being on the N3DS will give me an excellent reason to upgrade to the N3DS!
Would be awesome if it was a launch title for the NX, but Wii U or even 3DS would be cool too.
@VeeFlamesNL Well, I happen to be really bad at predicting Nintendo. I said it was unlikely that Pokken Tournament would come to the Wii U the day before it was announced for the Wii U, so there's a good chance I'll be wrong with Pikmin 4.
I've not really gotten into Pikmin yet, but I'll probably enjoy it if I give it another chance.
I was pulling the weeds out the garden on the weekend and I was day dreaming of little Pikmin running around my feet lol
Wii U? NX? 3DS?
darn now i REALLY need to catch up, i havent even beat/or gotten the 1st or 2nd one yet,
I really hope they lose the fruit and go back to the random everyday household items. Licensing could be an issue but it could also help those produces sell as well.
One day a Pikmin game might look just like that pic in the article.
I really enjoyed Pikmin 3 but it was kinda short. (10 hours 100% without a guild)
Huh... at first I thought this would be an iOS game for sure but you guys are right, it has 4 in the title which would make it far less likely. Great news anyway! 😎
@Kirk Maybe like in 10 or so years...hopefully
WHAAAA-!?
Pretty exciting news! I had never played Pikmin until I got Pikmin 3 for free from that Mario Kart 8 promotion via Club Nintendo, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I just bought some of the DLC a few days ago, which I now sort of regret. I hope this game is lengthier than 3. I still need to go back and play the first two entries. (Fingers crossed for eventual Virtual Console release!)
Nice, Pikmin 4. Next they'll announce F-Zero GX 2, Metroid Prime 4, Animal Crossing Wii U, and a proper Fire Emblem game!
@bezerker99 likely because you never state IMO or qualify it as an opinion. Instead your words are read as a statement rather than your own experience.
Because text lacks the nuances of spoken language AND this is a multicutural site it is very easy for a statement to be misunderstood if you aren't clear.
@Soren What about Fates/If, doesn't that count as a proper Fire Emblem?
Then in a few days we will hear how Miyamoto was misquoted about Pikmin 4 being close to completion. It was just a random thought Miyamoto had while sitting on the toilet or something, or how they are waiting until nipple tassel controller technology to be perfected so they have the right control method.....or perhaps something wacky!
@Aromaiden No, no it doesn't.
@Soren Why not? What do you consider a proper FE game?
@Aromaiden It's terrible compared to the other games. Casual and Phoenix mode, unbreakable weapons, the gay stuff, the fact that it's split into two versions, and the true route is DLC. Plus, since this game will probably sell well, all the future games will follow suit.
Doesn't this kind of prove that the NX well closer than not?
Oh, and I forgot the Fire-Emblem Amie feature. Plus, it's rated 15+ in Japan, compared to Awakening's 13+, so there's a chance it could be rated M, or at least censored in some areas.
@Soren I don't see that making the game innately terrible, rather it just doesn't appeal to you as much anymore. Although I will agree that the FE series seems to be changing. At the moment it seems like they're attempting to open the series to a greater audience.
@Dezzy
Hopefully!!
apparently this was announced in july via some interview? seems rather fishy....
Surprising. Doesn't make much sense to be on Wii U except that it needs all the help it can get. Article didn't mention 3DS which surprised me, but I really don't want to see that. Would be a way to highlight how incredibly dated those screens are feeling to most people, I guess. :/
I'd be all over a console version of Pikmin 4 however and it seems like a great candidate to show off graphics updates from Wii U to an NX console.
@Jaxon_H
First I've heard of that rumor about NX portable and then console later, but lines up with what I've been thinking well. Where did you hear it? If Nintendo is going to wait that long for a console though... what do we console lovers do in the meantime? I guess catch up on the Wii U backlog.
Gotta be Wii U! Pikmin 3 was great, but it sorta felt like a warm-up for something bigger.
@bezerker99 Sorry, I was caught off-guard by your opinion, I didn't realize that you actually tried out the ones with time limits. Perhaps real-time strategy isn't your forte?
@Soren I hear Nohr is actually a good, challenging FE game with varied objectives and such. Have you even played if/Fates yet?
I like how they stripped out a lot of the RNG BS found in Awakening, so I'll be at least getting Nohr.
Don't really care what platform its on, just excited to hear that Pikmin 4 is closer to release than I thought.
Also, highly, highly doubt a major installment in a Nintendo franchise would be on mobile.
@Aromaiden Yeah, by introducing dating sim features.
No doubt this is being held for the NX.
Regardless, I am very excited. Pikmin 3 was an amazing game, and it's actually the reason why I bought a Wii U.
@Aromaiden Making the game appeal to a broader audience is the problem. The series hasn't been too popular outside Japan, so they're trying to make more money by introducing these odd features and butchering the game into 3. I doubt I'm the only pre-awakening fan who's not fond of Fates.
@Soren Well, I also doubt you're the only pre-awakening fan who dislikes Fates, as a matter of fact, I'm positive you're not. Although in the end, if Fates sells well, I wouldn't be surprised if they continued with their new current method. It's just how business works.
@VeeFlamesNL Well they didn't introduce the dating sim features since the whole relationship thing has been there for a while; it's more like they expanded on what was already there and placed more emphasis on it.
Pikmin is not a system seller. I think Pikmin 4 is for Wii U.
@bezerker99
It's fine if you don't like the series but saying "All Pikmin games are really boring'' can easily come off as rather insulting to fans and is a huge generalization anyway.
Also, saying "...and why isn't Nintendo making a spinoff game of this lame series? No, it gets the full game treatment (unlike Animal Crossing)" can come off as extremely rude towards the developers who have great potential to show and all you're doing is hating on them. If you're going to not like something, don't be rude about it (to be brutally honest).
In short, just be careful how you say things.
Swearing also comes off as extremely rude.-Morpheel
Nintendo should rerelease the first Pikmin on the 3DS and long side Pikmin 4 now that would be good
And here I am hoping for the Nintendo selections re-release of Pikmin 2 on the eshop!
Now THAT came out of nowhere?! I guess it will be on NX. I don't see it happening on the Wii u so late in the game. But it could also be on the 3DS (or its succesor). Who knows!
Anyway, I hope the first 3 will also be released on NX as a collection. That way I can catch up with the old titles. I tried the first Pikmin once back in the day, but didn't like it. However, the Pikmin 3 demo was better then I expected. Maybe I should give this series a chance? Maybe I was to young (and to impatient) back when the first Pikmin was released.
Whatever platform it's on I'll get. I would prefer it on 3ds though. If they save it for NX I'm ok with that too.
@Seacliff yeah my thoughts exactly, though I hope this is Secret Nintendos way of start building hype for the NX and announcing launchtitles by just dropping the names from now on untill they have a NX-direct when the've gathered a handfull of high quality titles and then reveal they ara all for the more powerfull NX.
That having said, they must have at least a decent lineup for 2016 for Wii U so I guess they are playing their cards close to their chest on those titles so far(not the best way to insure wii U owners but hey, Nintendo ey:) )
@John_Enigma remove SSB NX from your list and I totally agree with you, and add picmin 4 instead, deal?
Please, less swearing and aggressiveness.-Morpheel
@rferrari24 it sells enough, and It would crush other non nintendo launch-titles saleswise I'd say, they have to start building a decent amount of titles ready for release now if not even sooner(bet some titles been in development over a year, heard a rumour Retros new game got moved to the NX, only a rumour but Im guessing it's a Metroid title for NX now)
We just had Pikmin 3. How about an F-Zero, a Kid Icarus of a Fire Emblem instead.
i just hope it has a longer story to it i found 3rd to be short :/
Nice, I have to say whether or not Pikmin 4 comes to the Wii U or the NX I will still be happy ^^.
I don't know if this is a good idea, but I think it could be interesting if we could create our own protagonist in Pikmin 4, or at least in a sub-mode or a new game+ option .
While I would really like to see Olimar and the rest of the cast interact more with each other, as I feel like Pikmin 4 ended a bit too fast after Alpha and the other two meet Olimar ;^^.
Either way, we Nintendo fans sure have a lot of games to look forward to in the future now .
(Note: I recently joined this discussion again so my idea might have been mentioned already for what I know).
@Nomad yes those you mentiones as launchtitles(IF the NX is out next year) and pikmin 4 included, even though you think we just had one(2 years)
It has without a doubt never been more important for Nintendo to have a great launchline-up this time around, so I hope it's all for NX. With a few quality titles next year for the Wii U(3ds seems to be running itaelf it some way by now anyways)
Morpheel, DON'T TWIST MY WORDS.
@Neogaard Uh, Pikmin 4 is already added. I said it as "this game". Also, Y NO SSB FOR NX?
@John_Enigma sey missed you wrote "this game"
Why no SSB for NX is like everything else here a guess, Sakurai seems still worn out after the wii u/3ds versions, might be one later in the consolecycle but I was counting launchgames there
And of course I agree a NX without an entry in the SSB series would be a great loss for both fans and Nintendo.
I think he said at some point making Pikmin 3. "It's like the Wii u was made for Pikmin" So I hope its for the Wii u.
You rarely ever see this at all in the media for movies, games, etc. I'm surprised they could keep that underwraps for so long before some website could leak it, but revealing that when it is "near completion" is pretty astounding in today's world.
@HawkeyeWii that's the upside of developing most things in one single building with(I'd assume) a strickt code of conduct everybody signs, plus a dash of pride from the people developing these wonderful games.
@WaveBoy FIre Emblem is the only game you mentioned that I remotely like. lol. And Yes, Metroid II is a very sub-par game, I could say quite a few things about it but here isn't the place.
I'll eventually get around to redownloading Pikmin 3 onto my Wii U and I'll play it. It's rather charming, I'll give it that.
Would be a waste on the wiiu at this point. NX launch title could be good...but doubt they would be talking about it being almost already. A N3ds title or a mobile game would be my bet.
@Aromaiden Unfortunately, yes, that seems to be the case.
It better get released on the Wii U because its the last Nintendo system I'm going to own. If they do a dual release with the NX I'm cool with that. The Wii U has only been out for 3 years and if they drop support for it so soon don't expect me to ever support Nintendo again.
OH MY GOD YES! Pikmin is one of my favourite franchises! Considering 3 didn't sell that well I figured it would be ages till we got a new one, if ever. But this is great! Wii U, NX, 3DS (surprised this wasn't mentioned as a possibility in the article), I don't care so long as it isn't smartphone. Best gaming news in a long while!
well that was BIG news, couldn't you've showed a logo of that at the end of the e3 conference,
hmm maybe, you couldn't 'cause its an NX tittle, I would like it on Wii U and I would like it now, but I'm just really happy with this news, but the truth is that Pikmin 3 plays absolutely amazing on the gamepad tv combo, or just on the gamepad by itself,
lets not kid ourselves here Nintendo are going to release Pikmin 4 on NX it's really more of a question of will it be solely for NX or NX + wii U (which to me seems unlikely)
I've no idea why you would ask if we would want to see this on smart devices, but at the same time not acknowledge that it would probably be the highest performance on the 3DS
And it won't be coming out on the Wii U. The NX has already been announced, so releasing it on the Wii U would be suicide, since the console has been dying as soon as it came to the market.
So this article came out one year ago... Still waiting..:
@SmashJT anytime soon!
Any day now. Any day now.
"The wait for Pikmin 4, however, looks set to be far shorter."
Hello there. I'm from the future, can we talk?
@Soren except for GX HD, you, sir are a prophet.
Too bad the proper Fire Emblem (Engage) proved why Awakening and Three Houses worked so well
