Re: Nintendo Is A Slave To Its Past Success, Says Gearbox President Randy Pitchford

Hotfusion

What he says makes some sense. He is not speaking as a blindfolded fanboy with no sense of business. As it stands Nintendo will NEVER make HUGE profits as they once did with the current fan base.

All these so called great games don't mean a damn thing if the rewards are little. A great game selling 1m copies is a pitifully small payback for all the hard work. Last gen Nintendo's big games sold well over 8m minimum. That is a great reward for great games.
I am NOT saying that this is the norm but selling 9m+ consoles after 3 years and your best sellers is a fraction of the last gen is NOT the sign of a growing, progressive home console business. It's the signs of a dying one.

Splatoon may be a good game but it is NOT going to bring in the profits of a 4m seller, something Nintendo had so many of with the Wii.

If Nintendo are going to move forward they need to move away from this small core fanboy base.

10m people may have bought the Wii U but I seriously doubt even half that amount will return for the NX if things stay the same. The 5m+ that comes back is that fanboy core.

Any business would ideally like to keep it's existing userbase or customers and expand on that.

In Nintendo's case maybe it is best to ditch the 5m to gain 20m+.

Some people cannot bare to face reality and see what the sales are clearly proving.

Not that many gamers (core or otherwise) care about Nintendo's games on the Wii U, apart from a rapidly shrinking few.
Many of us LOVE these games. Apart from us no one else does.. at least not enough.
All you keep asking for are the same old games over and over again that the mass market don't want.

Nintendo cannot go on in the home console market like this catering for a pathetic minority. It is really that simple to see if you stop thinking about yourself and what you want for a minute, after that minute you can go back thinking about yourselves.

This is what he is pretty much trying to get at.

Re: New Nintendo 3DS XL Back On Top In Japan As Wii U Leads Home Console Sales

Hotfusion

Is Splatoon the Wii U's last battle cry in Japan? I don't see Mario Maker doing better than Hyrule Warriors or Yoshi doing spectacular.

After E3 I see the Wii U falling like a stone in the west, not that it has that far to fall. Even now I am reading about people deciding not to get Splatoon anymore. Seems a bit extreme because I recommend the game highly but in a strange way I can understand their reaction, even if I don't agree with it.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 Digital Event?

Hotfusion

I agree that Nintendo did say they will only talk about games in 2015 for the Wii U. This in itself confirms they have nothing new to offer but it also defeats the WHOLE purpose of E3, where everyone reveal future LONG TERM projects. That is also why I have been saying all along that the Wii U is being killed off, taking a lot of bullets from fanboys who disagree with me - as they are entitled to - along the way.

While other companies are working their asses off to promote their products the very best that they can by showcasing long term projects Nintendo does the exact opposite.

Whereas Sony and MS are saying to the consumer "buy my console, the future is bright" Nintendo is saying "Our console ain't worth £$%^"!!

I will be extremely surprise and eat humble pie if Devil's Third isn't canned on the Wii U.

Re: First Impressions: Our Maiden Flight In Star Fox Zero Prompts Mixed Emotions

Hotfusion

I really want to like this game but time will tell. The graphics look like rubbish though, because I hate that N64 look in 2015. Typical stuck in the past Nintendo, but maybe I can get over that if the gameplay is remarkable.

As for those who moan about people whinging , it's their damn right to complain if they choose to. People come to this site to "voice" an opinion and just because it doesn't agree with others that no reason to think them stupid.

It is refreshing to see so many people not being "yes" men. Not being blind fanboys that will never say a bad word about they beloved "company" like a communist state political party in old Moscow or N.Korea.

The only way things get better is when the masses complain.

If you are happy with the way things are with your investment there is nothing wrong with that. It's just the way you view things.
Some people want more and are not happy with scraps. They is nothing wrong with that either. To each his own.

I am however pleased the majority see this E3 presentation (and most things related to it like this game) underwhelming, as I do.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 Digital Event?

Hotfusion

C'mon guys, Nintendo is far from dead. The Wii U, yes, probably, but not Nintendo.

If they are going to stay in the home console business they need to seriously deliver with the NX. They know it, we know it, everyone knows it.

Another console that performs like the Wii U and they are definitely pretty much a hand held, mobile phone gaming company going forward.

They are deluded fanboys that to this day think the Wii U will sell 20m... hell it would be lucky to get 12m. At 25K a week globally and absolutely no software to move consoles, that is even harder now after this E3 which is looking to pretty much to confirm the eminent arrival of the NX.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 Digital Event?

Hotfusion

I am going with most of the press and gaming sites on this one (even Forbes who I rarely agree with anything they write but..) I would give it to Sony.. just.

Sony - MS - Ubi - Everyone else - Nintendo.

@Dr_Corndog
So true. The aim is to turn people on to your products. Ultimately the winner is really the one that sells the most consoles after each E3. Last year Nintendo took the moral victory, but no way won the war. People liked what Nintendo did in 2014, but even that wasn't enough to force many consumers to buy a console they obviously don't really want because the content doesn't excite them.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 Digital Event?

Hotfusion

@arnoldlayne83
Couldn't agree more. Actually you should get any other console or PC (and Wii U if you must have Nintendo games).

However, Nintendo is enough for some people who ONLY want to play Nintendo games.

Sales of the Wii U tells me that number is NOT very big as I am sure a good portion of the 9m+ own another console. I own the PS3 with the Wii U.

I am currently building a mid-range gaming PC. Will pickup a PS4 later when Uncharted drops.

I will also pick up the NX. I think it might be the last console as we know it from Nintendo.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 Digital Event?

Hotfusion

Some people are so easily pleased. They should come work for me. I will pay you "well".

Rubbish Nintendo E3. But I expected it. StarFox looked "better" on the N64.

I had a bet with a Nintendo fanboy who produced all sorts of "evidence" that the NX will not be released until Winter 2017.

After this E3 I am pretty sure I will win this bet (it's good beer money) and NX will be with us by Nov 2016.

I am disappointed because although I knew without third-party Nintendo will have 1% of the number of games on the other consoles, I still expected more. To not have a Zelda game after three damn years in a console's life is unforgivable in this era.

This E3 will be all 3DS and Wii U games we already know are in development.
I am 60% sure Devil's Third will be now be cancelled.

It seems the Wii U is going out like it came in, with a whimper.

I now look forward to the NX. C'mon Nintendo.

Re: Metroid Prime: Federation Force Is The Metroid Game You Didn't Expect, Or Perhaps Want

Hotfusion

Not really that bothered about Metro but I would be willing to buy a proper Metro Prime on the Wii U.

However, this doesn't surprise me. Anyone with half a brain cell can work out that developing games on the Wii U is now being toned down.

This whole E3 will be about new games for the 3DS and Nintendo Wii U games we already know about. Any new announcements on the Wii U will be third-party shovelware.

I said it before and I will stick by it. NX in 2016. Let time prove me wrong.

Re: Poll: We Need to Talk About amiibo - Where Do You Stand?

Hotfusion

Great concept to make some money for Nintendo. I applaud it.

On a personal level, not for me. No interest in these kind of toys.

I was very keen to see how Nintendo would eventually implement Amiibos into their gaming environment. If Splatoon is the blueprint for the future of Amiibo and all Nintendo games then I might as well quit now.

It was indeed strange reading Nintendo fans views on DLC (which they generally hate) but yet many see nothing wrong with how Amiibos work in Splatoon, which I think is worse most DLC.

Re: Rumour: GameStop No Longer Taking amiibo Preorders, Limiting Sales To One Figure Per Person

Hotfusion

This is all very deliberate and elaborate. The reality is that many of these products are usually sold to a few people. On average one person owns many Amiibos.

Nintendo is deliberately creating headline shortages to maintain interest. Nothing wrong with that, it's good marketing. It's just that Nintendo seems to think that everyone buying their products are kids that cant see what they are doing... then again.

Re: Lego Jurassic World Pre-Order Freebies Coming To PlayStation and Xbox, But Not Wii U

Hotfusion

Always the same ole argument. Whose fault is it? Nintendo or the third parties?
I really think both have to take a degree of blame but ultimately it is Nintendo's console so they should shoulder the lion share of the blame.

The bottom line is that the 3rd parties don't need Nintendo. Full-stop. They are doing fine without them. It would be a nice bonus to have them on board but they don't need them.

Without 3rd party support Nintendo suffers. Not enough people are into their cartoony games. They can't even sell 10m consoles in over two and a half years with some of the best games they have produced. Nintendo home console games are losing appeal. The sales don't lie.

The gaming demographics are always shifting, changing and evolving. The games that the majority of people want to play are the ones the developers are keen to produce.
Unfortunately all seems to be going in an opposite direction to Nintendo.

Apart from Nintendo fans the vast majority of gamers don't want a weak console. They don't want ONLY cartoony games.

If their next console basically offers the above then they are truly winding up their role in home gaming consoles.

Re: BBC iPlayer Finally Arrives On The Wii U eShop

Hotfusion

Good for those who dont have another console, smart TV, chromecast etc.

Downloaded it but to be honest will most likely never use it as I already have better options. Must say though, when the Wii U first came out it was my main Netflix and Amazon Prime player. Actually that's all it did for a long time because it had no games.

Re: Project CARS Studio Boss Admits to Problems With Wii U Version, Hoping For Nintendo Hardware Announcement at E3

Hotfusion

I am disappointed as I do like driving sims and the gamepad would have made a good F1 type "steering wheel".

However I am not surprise. This was coming since the first excuse was made about the delay. At the very least they could have made it run on the Wii U even if it looked far worse than the other versions.

Nintendo consoles are made for Nintendo cartoony graphics. Unless you are delusional there is really not much difference between the 10 year old X360 and the Wii U apart from more memory. Everyone pretty much accepts this apart from some diehard fanboys. I can see with my own unbiased eyes there is little difference. However, I wont lay down grounds for yet another argument about this topic so moving on.

Another factor is that the architecture is different giving developers more work.

I have absolutely no issues with Nintendo doing their own thing and I wish they would but they need to accept the consequences.

1) Keep making weak consoles BUT be prepared to supply all the software as there will be no third party support.

2) Accept that selling far less than 20m home consoles is most probable if they follow point #1. I really don't see many of those that bought the Wii U coming back for the NX but let time tell.

3) Make money being a niche home console manufacturer but understand that the profits of the 2008 era are very unlikely UNLESS another financial source is implemented.

I will happily still support nintendo if they took this route.
Truth be told I can see Nintendo already laying down the pipes for a very different future away from gaming as we know it.

Re: Wii U and 3DS Continue Improved Sales in the US, as Xenoblade Chronicles 3D Misses NPD Top 10

Hotfusion

Some of you definitely live in cloud cuckoo land.

The only positive I find pleasing about the Wii U sales is that there were many "intelligent" analyst who predicted that the Wii U would have been pulled from the market last year.

As for those that gloat about Nintendo making a profit, haha. These profits are peanuts and lucky because of the yen. If you are someone that gains financially from Nintendos success (shareholder) you wouldn't be happy.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Modest Sales Targets Keep Wii U and 3DS Expectations Under Control

@kobashi100
"Sega did a lot more with dreamcast over what Nintendo did with Wii U.
Least Sega went out with a bang. They gave us bangers constantly. Plus at least they had some third party support.
Sega just run out of cash."

Very well said. Saga's effort with the doomed Dreamcast was far more valiant than Nintendos with the Wii U.

The huge difference is that Nintendo has the 3DS to keep the income ticking over and cover any loses. So Nintendo did pretty much nothing with the Wii U for ages. No marketing, no games, nothing.

Sega had no such luxury.

@TreonsRealm
Those figures mean absolutely nothing, unless you really want them to. You know, like politicians do.

Ultimately gaming is FAR bigger now that it was in the GameCube era. By the the time the PS3 launch the PS2, XBox, GC generation had sold collectively *160m units approx. (Please Note: PS2 went on to sell many millions after new gen arrived. Don't confuse PS2 overall figures with figures from 2006/2007. At launch of last gen PS2 was at 103m. At EOL it was 153m.) Source: vgsales and wiki.

Last gen collectively sold approx 280m home consoles. This gen predictions are the same (I doubt this but time will tell).

What your statistics show me in a nutshell: 1) The Wii U is performing rubbish in an era many consider by sales "the height of gaming".
2) The GameCube performed solid in an era dominated by PS2 and 40% less gamers.

*170m if you throw in the Dreamcast.

Nintendo is the gaming version of Disney. It's just that Disney are far better at what they do than Nintendo. Disney know their place in their industry.

Can Disney be considered popular culture? Yes, in a way.
Can Nintendo be considered popular culture in the future, again? Yes, but they need to turn people onto their kiddie ideas of gaming and personally I don't see that happening.

Re: Splatoon Global Testfire is Confirmed for One More Round

Hotfusion

Missed the first testfire and will also have to miss the next one.

The pricing on this game is strange. CAD$70 seems a bit steep.
Why I say this is because in the UK this game can be preordered for £25.00 (I paid £30), which is far cheaper than the usual £45 or £49 that I paid for SSB, MK8, SM3DW etc.,

I therefore thought that this game was value much lower in all regions.

If I was to be totally honest I would not pay £45 for this game with so many features I consider as standard missing. But for £30 it's well worth it.

I am surprised people even bother to buy retail games from the eshop.
Games that cost £49 on the eshop can be had for anything from £5 to £20 on eBay or Amazon.

Hell, I picked up Hyrule Warriors for £13 on Amazon.

Re: Video: Nintendo of America's Musical Splatoon Campaign Continues

Hotfusion

People complaining need to understand Nintendo is 99% about KIDS.

Some adults have issues with this and try to pretend that this isn't the case, because they love Nintendo games.

Nintendo fans say CoD and 18+ Rated games are played by kids trying hard to be adults.

Does this mean Nintendo kiddie games are played by adults that refuse to grow up?

Many adults read kiddie books (Harry Potter). What's wrong with adults playing kiddie games?

The reality is that the vast majority of adult gamers will not be seen dead playing Splatoon. Other gaming sites and YouTube comments clearly confirms this. (The fact that kids also don't want to play kiddie games is another subject).

Nintendo knows this so that is why they are pushing it at kids. If you are an Adult that like the game that's fine.

"I am a KID I am a squid" is aimed NOT aimed at adults.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo's E3 Plans are a Perfect Blend of Humour, Retro Charm and a Hint of Madness

Hotfusion

Good stuff!! I can't help but think that all this is really vital for Nintendos future. It is unlikely to make anyone buy a Wii U, it's far too late for that, but it can generate interest from the general public towards NX if they can reclaim some "cool factor" points.

World Championships in Europe would be cool but considering the XBoxone and PS4 outsold the Wii U in one day in the UK (and some other areas in Europe) it would NOT generate that much interest considering the cost.

Nintendo (more so Wii U) is a negative in the UK and much of Europe going from their official charts.

The U.S. is probably the only place these championships can work base on market share, language and logistics.

Re: Sit Tight, Nintendo Will Announce Its E3 2015 Plans Tomorrow

It will be really hard to beat their last E3 which was the best of anyone's.

I am on my own here but something, anything NEW would be good.

Re: Parent Trap: Splatoon Is The Perfect Family Firepower-Fest

Hotfusion

@ikki5
So true. If the solo and 1v1 local qualifies this as a family game then pretty much every damn game that was ever made is a "family game".

Don't get me wrong it's a cheap game so I preordered and will play it.

That's one of the main features of this game actually, it's price. Then again with what seems like content tied in with amiibo purchases that price can rocket.

Funny enough additional gaming content on Amiibos was one of the main greviences (on this forum) against Nintendo when the toys were first announced. Now it seems everyone is happy with it.

I suppose with so few console sales the owners that are willing must be fleeced somewhat. That's business, I guess.

Re: Nintendo's E3 Focus to Reportedly be on Wii U and 3DS, not Smart Devices or NX

Hotfusion

@Quorthon
I agree. There is nothing left to sell the Wii U. It's in decline and I will be very surprise if it gets close to 13m in its lifetime, even if it gets another two years.

@nadoine
Nintendo lacks appeal when it comes to the general public. They can only cater for a shrinking fanboy core.
To regain market share they need to dump their fanboys and take on a whole new image. Let's face it, not many are interested in they current "kiddie" one.

Everyone can spew out a list saying "Gimme this game or gimme that game"
The reality is Nintendo won't because the game will probably sell badly.

According to wiki and other sources the last Metroid sold less than 1m on the Wii when it had 5X the userbase of the Wii U... I think.

Nintendo killed of many of those games for a reason. They weren't selling anymore.
Yet for some strange reason it makes perfect business sense to release these games on a small userbase to please a few people.

Let time tell but I seriously doubt a lot of the games listed here by members will ever see the Wii U.

Re: Nintendo's E3 Focus to Reportedly be on Wii U and 3DS, not Smart Devices or NX

Hotfusion

It would be great if the NX was still a few years away but I guess that would mean Nintendo having to put up with a very poor selling Wii U for a lot longer.

The Wii U is not going to sell a whole lot more so it is probably best to give the dedicated fans that bought the console what they want at this E3.

The problem is then timing. If they can get out Metroid, F-Zero etc by next year then that would be good. The other more important thing is sales forecasts.

Nintendo must really think there is no profit in releasing these games on the Wii U if they choose not too.

Either way the two things that would probably interest me most this E3 are not being discussed (NX and Zelda) and as a multiplatform gamer it's no big deal if I never use the Wii U again after this year.

Re: Feature: What We Want to See in the Splatoon Direct

Hotfusion

@Dr_Lugae
I find it hard to comprehend why some people can't grasp such a simple point as the one you made.

Nintendo makes kiddie games ( take that however you want to ) full stop. End of story.

To bring up 15+ or 18+ games and claim that "Titanfall has voice chat" so should Splatoon is silly.

In a nutshell, Nintendo make kiddie games. If you don't want to play kiddie games don't buy the damn console. Simple.

This was Nintendo's strength and now it looks like it going to be its downfall.
Very few kiddies cared for Nintendo games 15 years ago (GameCube era) and now most have grown up they still don't. Today's kids don't either.

Nintendo fanboys at some point need to see that they are a rapidly shrinking species (when it comes to home consoles) and that the company cannot sustain releasing a console for just them.

Nintendo needs to find new fans even if it means dishing the old ones.
I mean, I rather lose 12m fans and gain 20m.
Ideally it would be better to have it both ways, keep and gain, but most Nintendo fanboys IMO is are better off dropped if any progress is too be made.

BTW I do not use the term "kiddie" to deliberately offend anyone. I just use it to get my point across and will probably carry on doing so even if it offends anyone

@Superryanworld

It's the typical blame game. "Its the developers fault".

The fact that when Nintendo was the power in gaming they treated the developers badly is usually forgotten. Read up on the history of Nintendo.

What goes around usually comes around. Bullying the devs, charging developers ridiculous amounts of money for the N64 cartridge, then the GC proprietary disc. Building weak puny systems at a time when eye candy sells huge amount of games for devs, etc.

Re: Bravely Second: End Layer Passes 100,000 Sales in Its Launch Week in Japan

Hotfusion

I really would be surprise if XBX could sell more copies on the Wii U than it's predecessor did on the Wii. It only has a fraction of the Wii user base.

I expect sales about the same as Hyrule Warriors.

Saturation is pointing to a whole lot less sales for the 3ds looking forward.

Xbox one must surely be crowned the worst selling console in the history of Japanese gaming.

Re: Treyarch Isn't Working on Call of Duty: Black Ops III For Wii U, Though Activision is Noncommittal

Hotfusion

Nintendo need to appeal to a wider audience. I will bet half those that bought the Wii U will not be queuing up for its successor.

Nintendo makes damn good games but apart from a dwindling fanbase no one really cares, few care enough to buy a console to play them.

This is Nintendo's problem. Mass appeal. Nintendo is in a popularity contest and right now the sales indicate it's the kid with acne and severe bad breath.

When games like CoD skip the Wii U its not good. I am no fan of the franchise but what harm could it do being on the Wii U? I say games like CoD because they are guaranteed to make a good profit so some risk could be taken.

Funny enough Nintendo describe the NX exactly the same way they describe the Wii and Wii U. I can see more gimmicks coming.

Re: Digital Foundry Assesses The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and More GameCube HD Remake Possibilities

Hotfusion

I have nothing against Nintendo doing remakes in their current position. With no third party I had long expected Nintendo to be churning these remakes out as it is a way of keeping the library ticking over without using any brainpower cooking anything new up.

I see a future where there will only be remakes of remakes that were remakes of remakes of the originals.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops III "Ember" Tease Sets a Futuristic Scene Ahead of Full Reveal

@rjejr
VGCharts has gotten a lot better over the last few years. These days their HARDWARE figures are never very far away from the official figures, give or take a couple thousand, but well within the accepted boundaries . At least the boundaries set by a reasonable person, you don't expect them to be spot on to the single console.
I was a member of that site for many years and some of us members scrutinised those figures carefully.
As for software sales that's another matter.

@Quorthon
The last time I played BO2 on the Wii U (maybe a year and half ago. I am in Europe. It was about 8pm Saturday) they were approx. 188 people online.

It is pointless trying to convince a Nintendo fanboy about the quantity of PS4 or Xbox games. They always answer with the predictable "Quality over quantity".
But one man's quality is another man's rubbish.

Quality (in terms of gaming and many things in general) is subjective. People choose what they conceive as quality. They do so with their wallets and the sales tell me the overwhelming majority do NOT consider Nintendo Wii U or it's games quality.
But to each his own opinion, even if he is the only one with that opinion.

Re: Talking Point: Mario Kart 8 DLC is a Winning Formula for Nintendo, But It Can Go Further

Hotfusion

I was under the impression the DLC tracks were all part of the remnant of the initial pot that the the original tracks were picked from. That made it easier and financially sound as the background work was already put in.

Therefore any new tracks will have too be made up from scratch. A lot of work to ask only a few dollars for and I wouldn't pay any more than I paid for the first two.

Personally I would be surprise if any more DLC tracks or characters were announced.

The one thing that needed the most work was the one thing they totally ignored..Battle Mode. They really should improve that but I won't pay for it.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo's Problems With Trends and Modern Media Continue to Damage Its Image

Hotfusion

I have given up trying to figure out Nintendo. They do what they want to do and that's it. Time will tell if they fall on their own sword.

In a nutshell: You buy a Nintendo console if you want to play Nintendo games. You buy one of the other consoles if you want to play 95% of ALL the other games out there.

The problem Nintendo faces is that (based on Wii U sales), they are not enough people that really care about Nintendo games to buy their home console. It doesn't matter if critics score these games highly and say they are the best games ever. People don't care.

Online voice communication and YouTube etc, is a norm in modern gaming like smartphones and smartTVs (devices) have become the norm in everyday life the last few years.

Yet Nintendo refuses to move with the times and while some die hard fanboys support this stubborn behaviour like a granny turning up her nose at new technology, the vast majority abandon ship.

A company cannot maintain a product or service if enough customers don't buy it... even Apple and MS retire stuff when they are not bringing in the wonga.
Kinect is a problem? Drop it. Problem solved.

It seems the more isolated in their thinking Nintendo becomes the fewer consumers will return for their next offerings, shrinking an already badly shirked fan base.

Fewer consoles sold spoil my fun because I want a well populated community when I play online, not empty lobbies.

Re: Video: Nintendo Inks In 'Claim Your Turf' Marketing Campaign With New Commercial

Hotfusion

At least they are doing ads. Probably will be all over the kiddie channels though, and not general adult mainstream. But saying that the game will probably be considered childish by the general public so using the kiddie channels makes sense. They can nag their parents for the console, game or both.

Can't help but think the pricing could be better. $300 is not far of the Xbox One price with a game. Many may not think that good value for a console considered last gen. I think this is a major stumbling block but hey, what's it to do with me?

By this time the GameCube could be had for £99 in its generation... I think.
Anyway looking forward to Splatoon and hope it has a great initial sales.

@Wisdomsprince
I agree that voice, chat, message etc, would be a great bonus to the game but Nintendo games are very family oriented with great emphasis on kids so I can see them discounting these features from the start. I think I read that they tried to implement voice chat but for some reason decided not to do it. It's not like voice chat is rocket science. I think they never really gave it much consideration.

Either way I won't miss it. A bunch of 7 year olds harping away in my ear is not my idea of fun.

Re: Nintendo Highlights Increased US Hardware Sales for Wii U and 3DS in 2015

Hotfusion

The Wii U is a failure and Nintendo has more or less acknowledge that. It's just that some fans can't. I don't buy the "it's profitable" kool aid because Nintendo doesn't breakdown the finances of its consoles. It's all lumped together. The 3DS could be covering Wii U losses but overall when everything is totalled it equates to a profit ( a profit which by Nintendo standards of last gen, is chicken feed ).

It is what it is and what has happened has happened. It sales prove that the console doesn't appeal to the masses but this shouldn't take away from anyone enjoying the console. I do enjoy the Wii u but I am disappointed with the lack of third party support that was promised before launch. I really don't care whose fault it is that this wasn't fulfilled. The fact is it wasn't.

This E3 is going to reveal a whole lot on where Nintendo is at.

Re: Hardware Classics: Sega Dreamcast

Hotfusion

Outstanding console for its time. Great design, and some truly revolutionary features like the digital game pad thing...not big, noisy and ugly like the Xbox.

Loved RE Code Veronica, V.Tennis, Jet Set Radio, Shemue, Crazy Taxi and a racing game I can't recall the title of etc.,
Nowadays everyone can look back and see Sega's mistakes but hindsight is always crystal clear. I still think that a DVD playing PS2 was always going to wipe the floor with the competition. I was at university and renting games and DVDs from Blockbusters was all that mattered. If a console couldn't do both it wasn't worth it.

As it stands it still has more sales than the Wii U. Alas Sega's didn't have a handheld console to cover the losses.

Sega's hardware was always my favourite.

I am hoping touch the 7000s with this release.

Re: Talking Point: Splatoon Is a Typically Colourful Nintendo Dabble in the Mainstream Market

Hotfusion

I am pretty sure this game won't move many consoles but I really hope it sells well amongst the 9m+ Wii u owners in the wild.

I am obviously getting this game mainly for the online like many others. Actually it is the only reason I will get it.
The problem here is if the game sells poorly within my timezone (Western Europe) - where Nintendo is particularly weak, online gaming will be reserved for N.American/Japan timezones.

Saying that, only *eight players per game could work better in small lobbies.

I have bought online games that sold less than 1m and many times struggled to find online players online.... at least more than one other.

I might just wait on initial sales before picking it up. The problem is others might do the same thing which can create a problem for sales in itself but I doubt this will be the case.
If Nintendo cared enough to promote their games more vigorously, like on TV as their competitors do, it would be a first day buy.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Plans for DLC and Microtransactions Point to Changed Priorities

Nintendo's ambition in life is to make money and as much of it as possible. This goes for any company.

They will do whatever they think is the best way to achieve this and if a few individuals don't agree with them then tough luck. Don't like DLC then quit gaming.

I am no fan of Amiibo but hell, if it fills the coffers then why not?

I have also believed Nintendo needed to come out of that primitive age they found themselves in these last two gens. The Wii sold well but then those races evolved or died out and not many were left to buy the Wii U.

To go back on a "promise" of no DLC and no core games on other devices shows that they are beginning to figure out the world doesn't revolve around them and things move on.

I am only one individual but if they want me to buy into they future systems then they still have a way to go. I am a fan of nintendo but not a blind fanboy of Nintendo.. or any company for that matter.

Dude you make good sense and made some strong points. It's refreshing to meet Nintendo fans that live in the real world.

This is business, not a cartoon game. The Wii U is never going to bring in the profits that Nintendo and the share holders crave. Far from. So stick or twist?

As you correctly pointed each decision has it's pros and cons.

One thing is certain, however. Nintendo needs to appeal to far more than the 12m - 15m people that will probably end up getting the Wii U. Hell, many of them probably don't plan to come back after their experiences with the Wii U.

Catering for a stiff necked flock of fanboys and Joe Public at the same time is going to be a tough job for Nintendo in 2016.

The appeal of Mario isn't what it was eight or so years ago.

Personally I would kick the fanboys and try to appeal to the masses. A handful of fanboys ain't going to bring home the bacon.
