@Other_Dave I really don't see the WiiU version being launched before the Switch version.
The Switch needs all the thunder it can gather during the first few months of it's life and launching the WiiU version before the Switch version is killing a lot of that thunder.

@Tyranexx
Very good post. So different from the "I don't like EA games and the world revolves around me".
Like you I can do without EA but understand the added attraction it can bring to the Nintendo system.
I really find it annoying when people go on about Nintendo don't need third party support.
If Ninty don't need the third party support then why the hell do Nintendo keep courting them? Why not tell them to get lost or tell them not to put games on their systems? They don't because Nintendo knows it is important.
I want the Switch to be a success and every little helps. It's not about me.
@ThanosReXXX
You are right. The end user experience is generally not worth it.
But crackers (it is a shame journalists never understood the difference between a cracker and a hacker and now it is probably too late to extract the poison) who reverse engineer software and modify it for fun do have their following. A system cracked is like a drug to some. It was for me back in the day.
@lemonjellydude I agree, as long as the interest remains high it would be a nice little money earner.
It cost the same as most modern games and although it might be more expensive than a BLuRay game disc to manufacture, there is still a healthy profit margin.
Colour - color, honour - honor. English - American.
When I travel to Asia, Eastern Europe and even parts of Western Europe the locals refer to English as American. "Do you speak American?" is thrown at more often than "Do you speak English?"
In Asian and Middle Eastern hotels the options for language on TVs, DVDs, ATMs etc., are often "American, French, German, Spanish ..." NOT ENGLISH.
I suppose it's because US culture ( TV, movies, music, novels etc., ) has been the dominant force throughout the world for a long time.
It did use to annoy me as a student but as I got older I found out that there are far more important things for me to worry about.
Personally I have no regrets buying it but, like only a mother can love a ?()£&@ kid, so can only a fanboy of the highest order truly believe this disaster of a system was something special. But each to their own.
For Nintendo this system resulted in the first financial losses in it's history. No matter how much some of their fans may love it, that deep cut delivered by the WiiU will leave a scar for the company that will never ever go away.
@yomanation I did not for one second considered you to be among the delusional. Quite the contrary, you are one of the few whose eyes are wide open and indeed understand the limits of certain tech hardware within a tablet.
The big question for me is cooling. I have used the Nvidia Shield and it can get quite hot. Seriously hot. Even after a couple minutes. It got so hot that the owner was worried something was wrong with it. It was just the way it is. Simple physics dictate energy is going to create heat, that's why the the best GPUs and pretty much anything above an i3 takes seriously cooling and tablets don't.
Is there a fan in the dock? If there is then that would be good because the clock speed can be boosted but ultimately it is a TABLET. Not a home console primarily, but secondary.
@yomanation
I think it is the general public (mainly fanboys) that is making out the Switch to be more of a home console than Nintendo is.
I of course speak for myself but in that 3min reveal I saw a handheld console that so happens to be able to play games on the TV.
Its fanboys pretending the Tegra chip is the second coming and this tablet can compete with a proper console. A similar delusion occurred with the launch of the Wii when they claimed it was as powerful as the x360 and with the WiiU. It was really funny reading those old post from many years back on another gaming forum. There are videos on YouTube as well.
ITS A TABLET. ITS AN UPGRADED NVIDIA SHEILD TABLET.
4GB DDR3 - I am speculating it is DDR3 - is great for a tablet or phone. Not so great for a console in 2016 when DDR4 and DDR5 is mainstream current tech.
@MetalKingShield
Only the most deluded of Nintendo fans would think this would be a powerful system.. hang on that is the ..
Seriously IT IS A TABLET. It is a handheld that plugs into a TV.
The weakest modern desktop pascal GPU or low end Polaris GPU will flatten that battery in a second, not to mention probably fry the plastic casing with its heat. Come to think of it any GPU capable of even XboxOne graphics would. Don't believe the hype. If a tablet can give XboxOne graphics output to a TV it would cost a fortune.
The graphics are probably the same as the WiiU, but I understand now that Nintendo truly don't care for graphics. They care about the experience. The 3min reveal was first and foremost about the experience of the console, not the games. To put so much faith in any of those third party games ever reaching the Switch is blind. They may, they may not.
If Eurogamer is accurate then Nintendo has made no guarantee of any of those 3rd party games, yet their fanboys do. Strange.
I really, really like the whole concept but what worries me is that the promo was portable heavy. It seems to be pitched as a portable first and foremost and by the way it can connect to the TV.
The Nintendo mob will lap it up as they do anything Nintendo but let's see how the internet reacts to it over time.
They killed the WiiU, let's see if they kill or love Switch.
A passively cooled device means there are serious power cutbacks, regardless of the technology in the GPU.
Other than that I don't really expect much, maybe except that after this "reveal" there will be far more questions than answers.
Then again, it is normal to expect that.
@HappyMaskedGuy If that time is correct I will be in a meeting when it kicks off. Oh well. Missed the Wii live reveal, missed the WiiU live reveal, will miss the ...
@invictus4000 I can see how you came to that conclusion. For me the more I think about the more I am convinced that this delay is NOT deliberate. They may really be struggling to nail down a few things this late in the day, relatively speaking. I believe it can be hardware.
I don't buy into this nonsense of them "hiding their killer gimmick" from the competition, it's not like the competition really cares.
I will look at the positive side and hope the lack of any news concerning the NX from Nintendo is because the have totally re-developed a far better plan or strategy and there are delays getting press releases through.
Hype gets potential investors interested. There is no hype here.
You said it in the first paragraph. "Nothing is too crazy for a NX rumour"... with the exception of any rumour that claims it is going to be the most powerful current console, that we all laugh at.
I still say a reveal will come in November. if it doesn't come in November then they have hit wall and are simply playing for more time. Nothing wrong with that, it just the way things go sometimes.
@SuperToe Waiting for the last minute to reveal a new phone is usually NOT deliberate. I know from my time in that market that every second counts and waiting til the very last minute gives you more of that precious time to get things right in a very competitive market with many players. Every few months you are turning out a new phone.
A console is a far less urgent process where planning can take many years. Sony and MS choose to talk openly of their upcoming consoles. Nintendo not too.
There is nothing wrong with what you said, I am just pointing out that different products can have different approaches when it comes to revealing their products. In the case of gaming it is by choice.
@sillygostly Are you serious? I know Nintendo love to rip you off but that is criminal.
That's what I hate about Nintendo. They still want full price to download old games that can be had for a fiver in the exchange or a fraction of the price on Amazon.
@ULTRA-64
VR is terrifying. Hell, Google cardboard scared the hell outta me and that is as basic as it gets.
Call me a wimp, I am man enough to take it.
Not sure I quite had the expression on that woman's face though.
Hearing the phrase "exceptional graphics" used in the same sentence as the word Nintendo seems wrong.
A bit like "decent human being" and Jack the Ripper in the same sentence.
I find the question strange because "exceptional graphics" automatically means decent frame rate. It depends on what the developers chooses as a priority. A £5,000 graphics card can produce 30fps if graphics quality are extreme or 300fps if they are reduced.
Saying that I really hope Nintendo ignore the majority of their fanbase that don't seem to care about graphics.
If this console is seriously underpowered I don't see it selling better than the WiiU, created huge losses again for Nintendo.
@ThanosReXXX You presented some very interesting points.
Based on everything I have read from Nintendo about the NX I am sticking to my prediction that it will be two separately sold consoles (hand and TV) that can be combined to work together on a unique level never implemented before.
I do no believe it is a hybrid system sold together. It will have to be absolutely of the poorest specs and quality to sell such a system at a reasonable price.
This game probably won't see the light of day for at least 2 or 3 years. A whole lot can happen in two years.
@RainbowGazelle You are right, they hung on longest. No mainstream developer will prolong backing a system with the poor sales and performance like the WiiU. Business is not a video game.
A lot of Nintendo fans hate UbiSoft. On this forum I have used up plenty words defending Ubi against the overwhelming majority of hate.
As others mentioned I thought ALL Wii games can be played on the Wii U, so what's the problem?
Maybe the publishers consider the Wii U deader than the Wii. Considering it will never even get a fifth of the Wii sales maybe it was never really alive apart from a few hardcore fans.
What they predicted made perfect sense. Hindsight makes any fool a wiseman.
I'd rather underestimate the numbers and scale up with a smile on my face than grossly overestimate the numbers and make cut backs with a frown. I'd also rather things turn out far better than expected more so than if they turned out exactly as expected.
Niantic did a great job considering this was their first Nintendo franchise game.
Ultimately success is judged on the results and the results seems to be overwhelming.
Pretty much the way I see. They should be battling for a bigger home console user base, not for the time and loyalty of the small - and likely shrinking - one they now have.
My prediction is that after being burned with the Wii U, many will avoid the NX and only the diehards (like the members of this forum) will buy the it.
If they struggled financially with the poor sales of the WiiU time will tell how they manage with what I believe will be an even worst selling NX.
@Pod
Quote "before people paint mobile games as something Nintendo can't do without, because they make a lot of money, it's worth taking note of just how much money traditional games both can and do make".
After ONLY ONE GAME on phones it is a bit early to draw a detailed conclusion one way or the other but ..
I am one of those people that will boldly say that (AS THINGS STAND) mobile gaming is something Nintendo CANNOT do without.
As a business Nintendo needs it's hands in many pies to maximize profits. As a company that recorded it's first ever losses this generation as well as a company with one of the poorest selling mainstream consoles in history. How the NX will preform is a mystery. It might be that after the NX Nintendo may be force to focus more on mobile gaming. Time will tell.
BTW I am NOT saying your comment is silly, it is not. I just don't agree with it right now.
The game is not for you. This is for the 100s of millions of iPhone owners that would probably never buy a modern Nintendo console.
Nintendo is a business. They don't have to please you. They have to please the masses, something I admit they are not very good at to be honest, but that can be changing.
IMO it is better they dump most of their current fanbase and adopt a whole new one, so annoying them by doing stuff like this is alright in my books.
Considering only Nintendo fans watch Directs and they are the only ones probably interested in the console then that's the way to go. Could save them a lot of money.
Sony and MS try their hardest to appeal to the masses, to everyone. Nintendo try their damnest not to. Yeah, Direct is the only way to go.
@Anti-Matter I do understand what you saying.. but Nintendo is a business. It's focus should not be to please you and a handful of people resulting in selling a pathetic 13m consoles and first ever losses.
It's focus should be aiming for the biggest possible market share thus obtaining huge profit. If that means more games that you hate tough luck.
If Nintendo continue to only aim to please the likes of you ( and I do not mean this disrespectfully towards you ) they are done for as a home console manufacturer.
The market don't lie.
As for Reggie he is just spinning the same old yarn. Building hype is the biggest marketing strategy. This is a lesson lost to Nintendo.
At least the rumours are consistent with Nintendo's philosophy. Rumours of Underpowered handheld GPUs and all sorts of gimmicks are not that farfetched. Isn't that what modern Nintendo does? Weak consoles and gimmicks.
@ThanosReXXX Good original post. If memory serves me right - and it may not, every console chip (CPU or GPU) manufacturer let it be known to the world (their shareholders) that they would be supplying the silicon for a given console long before it is released.
We all knew AMD was supplying the processors for Sony and MS months before. They publically announced it. They also did it for the Wii U as IBM did for both the Wiis and also the 360. Intel and Nvidia did it for the first Xbox.
The fact that Nvidia has said absolutely nothing and AMD has already dropped a hint makes me take all these rumours with a super dose of salt.
I am not saying that nvidia will not be in the NX, I am just saying I would be very surprise if it was.
If this rumour is false I am going to enjoy all theses "experts" now praising Nvidia switching loyalties back to AMD. There is no loyalty among fanboys when it comes to the ingredients of their beloved console.
@Aneira
The way I see it is that Nintendo and their fans are in a bubble.
There is nothing wrong with this except that bubble is shrinking rapidly and that is bad for business.
I agree with you. Nintendo released consoles (for the last decade) with the most outdated hardware at stupid prices (at least where the Wii U is concerned) and they and their fans think this is genius.
If the NX follows this pattern the only people that will be buying it are those posting on this and similar forums. It would be lucky to do half the Wii U sales.
Gimmicks are a hit (Wii) or miss (Wii U). With VR being the current global gimmick and taking the limelight I really don't see what Nintendo can come up with to compete against that.
To me in 2016 there is nothing special about a hybrid home and handheld system, if that is what their gimmick is.
It's Scorpio POWER that has everyone talking after E3, not the NX.
Nintendo did this E3 for their fans, so only their fans would appreciate it. It seems to be about maintaining the small home console market share they have. I really don't see them winning many new fans with that presentation. They were saying to their fans "Please stay with us".
Sony, MS and everyone else's presentation was about gaining new fans more than maintaining the ones they already have. It was about growth. They were saying "Come over to my side" or "Choose me".
To me it perfectly sums up the industry at the moment. Nintendo's small showing reflects their current position in the home console business.
@HeroOfTime32 Yeah I agree with you on the launch date 100%. No worries there.
I can see where you are going with your argument regarding NX news. However there is no other event that comes close to E3 when it comes to marketing your products. It's the biggest possible advert. To shy away from promoting your products because of competition at a mass event like E3 is not something most western advertising firms would see as sensible. Maybe that's a Japanese thing, don't really know. All we can do is wait and see how this all plays out.

Probably an old poster from before the delay was announced.
GAME (UK) gets lot of stuff wrong. Not saying they don't get some things right, just saying they get a lot of stuff like software launch dates wrong.
Re: Lego City Undercover Is Coming To Nintendo Switch And Other Platforms Next Year
@Shiryu
Well said and I agree.. mostly.
I am no blind fanboy to be milked and like you said unless they bring something new of substance they are not getting my money.
But they are blind fanboys out there to be milked and Nintendo knows that. So I expect a lot of direct ports to the Switch.

Yep! I will believe it when I see it as well.
Can't help but think this all seems oh so familiar .. wait, I remember, the WiiU.
If the initial Nintendo Switch sales are disappointing in any way or form, watch them all flee.

Re: Random: Even Xbox Executives Are Desperate To Get Their Hands On The NES Classic Mini
Nintendo ALWAYS have stock issues and deliberately "underestimate the demand".
I guarantee you the Switch WILL HAVE stock issues even if it only sells 20 units at launch.
Re: The Famicom Mini Passed a Quarter of a Million Sales at Launch in Japan

I agree, as long as the interest remains high it would be a nice little money earner.

Re: Rumour: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Won't Be Ready by March
I would think that having this game as a Switch launch title will be a bonus, even if it means prioritising the Switch version over the WiiU.
Regardless of whenever it comes out, Nintendo should release BotW on the Switch first, then the WiiU. It would "force" sales of the Switch.
Nintendo have a unique fan club and should exploit that (them).

What you said is exactly where Nintendo's problems lie. Mass appeal.
As it stands Nintendo cannot survive developing console games that only appeal to their shrinking userbase. The finances don't lie.
Unlike you my gaming taste is more varied and incorporates what you called "warsexy" types but I understand your gaming preference and respect it.
But my view is that Nintendo need 3rd parties to feed them those "warsexual" games whilst they concentrate on their own.
I cannot stress enough how important 3rd parties are for a console to be successful in this current and future generation.
I am not saying this will make them topdog, but it will surely make them more relevant.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Now Battles for Our Time, Not Just Loyalty
@The_Dude_Abides
I would love to be wrong.
Re: Pokémon GO Has Lost 79 Percent of its Paying Population
@Pod
Re: Nintendo Appears at Apple Conference to Announce Super Mario Run
Some of you are seriously.....
Re: Talking Point: What Approach Should Nintendo Take With Its NX Reveal?
Considering only Nintendo fans watch Directs and they are the only ones probably interested in the console then that's the way to go. Could save them a lot of money.
Sony and MS try their hardest to appeal to the masses, to everyone. Nintendo try their damnest not to. Yeah, Direct is the only way to go.
Re: We Have To Do A Better Job Of Explaining The Uniqueness Of NX, Admits Reggie
@Anti-Matter
I do understand what you saying.. but Nintendo is a business.
Pokemon GO success is all about Niantic.
Re: Rumour: Detachable NX Controllers Will Offer Wii-Like Motion Control And Advanced Force Feedback
At least the rumours are consistent with Nintendo's philosophy.
Rumours of Underpowered handheld GPUs and all sorts of gimmicks are not that farfetched.
Isn't that what modern Nintendo does? Weak consoles and gimmicks.
Re: Report Points to Nintendo NX Manufacturing Ramping Up in Q4 2016
@ThanosReXXX
Good original post.
Re: Ubisoft Has "Surprises" Yet to be Announced for Nintendo NX
The descriptive terms "casual" and " family" says it all about the games (and maybe hinted at the console).
It doesn't take much intelligence to see what this really indicates. Maybe it does.
Re: Editorial: Nintendo Did A Solid Job at E3 2016, But That Didn't Ease Long-Term Concerns
@Aneira
Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 2016?
Nintendo did this E3 for their fans, so only their fans would appreciate it. It seems to be about maintaining the small home console market share they have. I really don't see them winning many new fans with that presentation.
They were saying to their fans "Please stay with us".
Sony, MS and everyone else's presentation was about gaining new fans more than maintaining the ones they already have. It was about growth.
They were saying "Come over to my side" or "Choose me".
To me it perfectly sums up the industry at the moment. Nintendo's small showing reflects their current position in the home console business.
Re: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice Leads Japanese Charts and Boosts New 3DS
That's good sales for the number 1 spot.
I don't usually follow the charts but only 4 or 5 Nintendo games in the top 20 seems rather low.
Re: Poll: Did Nintendo Triumph With The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at E3?
@HeroOfTime32
Yeah I agree with you on the launch date 100%.
