Re: Angry Birds Arrive At Two Point Museum In New Spring Seasonal Update

HotGoomba

@N00BiSH I wouldn't say the new Angry Birds games are bad, but they're either mediocre and nothing special, piggybacking on the old games while stuffing microtransactions, or they're games that play nothing like Angry Birds but have the brand name on it anyways.

I don't think that the Angry Birds brand would've devolved to this point if Rovio had any other notable franchise that they own, but they don't. They peaked in the late 2000s and early 2010s, and are using the brand they built up during that time to not go under.

Re: BIT.TRIP Runner Dev Needs Your Help To Bring Remake To Switch 2

HotGoomba

A Kickstarter for a port of a recently released game is kinda weird, but whatever.

@DarkCoolEdge I don't think the "this remake of an old game should be able to run just fine!" argument really works when something like the Resident Evil and Final Fantasy VII remakes for modern platforms exist, or Demon Souls. Those are originally PS1, GameCube, and PS3 titles, yet I seriously doubt that a Switch 1 can handle those remakes.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite 3DS Model?

HotGoomba

I owned two 3DS models. A standard 2DS and a New 3DS XL.

The 2DS suddenly stopped working after 2 or so years.

I replaced it with a New 3DS XL. The New 3DS XL is still working perfectly, over a decade later.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Team Consistently Aiming For 30fps On Switch 2 "Wherever Possible"

HotGoomba

@fenlix The PS4 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake wasn't the one ported to Switch 2, but rather the PS5 remaster of the remake subtitled "Intergrade", which is likely why it runs at a consistent 30fps rather than any higher frame rate.

Also, I believe that Rebirth had performance issues when it launched on PS5. I don't think that the Switch 2 is the sole issue here, rather optimization and how the game was originally built, especially if Capcom can get two upcoming titles running at a mostly consistent 60fps and having the Switch 2 version pretty comparable with the Xbox Series S.

Re: Video: Skyrim Switch 2 Update 1.2 - Side-By-Side Comparison (Visuals Vs Performance Mode)

HotGoomba

The visual mode is only 30fps/30hz? I'm sorry, I'm not usually a frame rate snob, but if Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata are aiming for 60fps and are brand new, upcoming games, why does an ass old game like Skyrim need a performance mode to run at 60fps?

Cyberpunk 2077 also runs at 30fps on TV mode, but the difference with that it released in 2020, is obviously a lot more technically advanced than Skyrim, and is infamous for being difficult to optimize, yet they were able to get the Switch 2 version to run consistently and still looking more than good enough. Yet I'm supposed to be ok with Skyrim being the same frame rate in visual mode?

I don't think it's unreasonable to think that a company under a trillion dollar giant could afford to optimize a game from 2011 just a little more, right?

Then again, this is the company that couldn't even get basic desktop functionality working on Fallout on PC without having unpaid fans/modders fix the game for them, so maybe my expectations are too high.

Re: Reminder: Today's Your Last Day To Buy Switch Game Vouchers

HotGoomba

I might have to get these, there's been some games that I've been looking at but never had the will to actually get: Xenoblade, Arceus, and Bayonetta. They all look quality, but I have no idea if they're for me, so saving $10-20 on them would be nice.

I would use this for Tomodachi, but I'll be damned if I waited 13 years for this game just to get it digitally. I'm going physical for that one.

Re: Prince Of Persia Team Behind Cancelled Sands Of Time Remake Shares Final Message

HotGoomba

@some_other_drum This remake was announced in 2020 and was in development before that, was slated to release in 2021, got delayed, and has been in development hell for over six years. For a remake of a pre-existing game.

We have had two original and critically acclaimed Prince of Persia games since 2021, and as much as I was hoping this game would release, at this point, I think that shifting the team towards an original Persia game would be a smarter move than spending however much longer on this remake.

That being said, I hope they at least they do a small-scale remaster of the earlier Prince of Persia games. That's honestly the best I think they can do at this point.

Re: Armature Studio, Founded By Metroid Prime Devs, Has Been Shut Down

HotGoomba

So, the developers of some of the best VR and Meta exclusives – Asgard's Wrath, Deadpool VR, Resident Evil 4 VR on Quest – get awarded for their wonderful work by getting shut down by Meta.

I love virtual reality, it has provided some of the most unique and immersive experiences in video games. But Meta being the leader of VR, and with basically all of their competition besides maybe Valve basically nothing for VR, Sony/PlayStation included, I'm worried that this is it for virtual reality.

Between Microsoft, Meta, and Google, I think that big conglomerates getting involved in the video game industry has been a massive mistake.

Maybe Valve's new headset can change things for virtual reality, maybe Sony can actually develop some damn VR titles, and maybe some other competitor could join the VR medium, but right now, it isn't looking good. For now, hoping the best for everyone laid off.

Re: UK Charts: Metroid Prime 4 Debuts Behind Mario Kart World And EA Sports FC 26

HotGoomba

Makes sense. Most people will probably wait to get this on Switch 2, which doesn't have the biggest install base yet, and Metroid is more niche than a Mario or Zelda. Pretty good start, it should have decent legs throughout December.

I myself won't get it for a while. Not because of the reviews. I don't care about them, I'd probably like the game anyways. I'd just like to play Metroid Prime 2 and 3 first, which I wish released on Switch 1 by now, but I guess Nintendo is too busy making the long-awaited sequel to Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Bionic Commando (NES)

HotGoomba

Wow, that European one is awful. The American and Japanese ones looks good though.

Also, why does the big bad on the Japanese box art look like that one Austrian painter with the ugly mustache?

Edit: Wait that is him???? HUH?????

Re: Switch 2 Black Friday Deals Are A Bit 'Meh', But Here Are The Best We've Seen

HotGoomba

I was genuinely surprised when I saw how low the game prices so low so early in this console's life.

Then I realized the one thing that, save Story of Seasons, all of these games have in common. They're all game key cards, or worse, download codes.

I mean, a deal's a deal, I'm not at all saying not to buy these. I honestly might. But, nudge nudge, might show how game key cards aren't exactly flying off of shelves, especially at full price.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Kirby Air Riders?

HotGoomba

@benmalsky198 Only reasons I'm not immediately getting Air Riders is that I don't own a Switch 2, I haven't played the demo, and I don't want to buy the game before knowing that I like it first, or at least after I get bored of whatever games I get first.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Kirby Air Riders?

HotGoomba

@Aswannsong Look, I love Kirby (although I might not get Air Riders anytime soon), the series holds a really special place in my heart, but I really respect the hater energy that you've got against it. I wish I could be as passionate at despising something badly as you do Kirby. HotGoomba approves.
