The wider effects this would have on not just gaming but the whole entertainment industry is really concerning. Cinemas will likely be hit in a very serious way as Netflix will focus on making everything streaming based. It will also create less competition as it’s a major consolidation.
@Fighting_Game_Loser Think that’s why they are so keen to push the Nintendo Today app. Allows them to shadow drop announcements like this whenever they are ready instead of waiting for the three Directs a year they do.
Really don’t trust a word Phil says. He says so much and so little comes out true. So I will continue to not put stock into what he says with regards to supporting the Switch 2 in any meaningful way
This is amazing news! I absolutely love both the first two games. So I’m really excited to be able to play it again! Remember having both on Sold-Out Software on CD way back in the day.
@Smithicus Musicians are slightly different to artists or writers. Most musicians, especially if they are signed to a record label will have a second contract signed with a publisher who may or may not be the same company as the record label. The publisher’s job is to handle the royalties side of any music created by the musician. So yeah musicians are going to be entitled because that’s kinda where their money is made, the publishing side not the record sales or anything.
Holy… that’s really bad of Nintendo and it really doesn’t make their public image look good, especially when you think of how they like to try portray themselves.
Wonder if this was released ahead of the Direct by accident. We shall find out soon, but I’m really excited for this. Absolutely love Hitman and not played this since it first released on Xbox 360
@jon128 @SplatRay001 @tonyp1987 I often look up the games on Nintendo’s website shop as it tells you whether it’s supported or not. As of right now Nier is not supported. But I imagine it’s on the to do list.
I’m still not too sure what the tests are supposed to be for? Is it a game they’re building or are they using it as some kind of server test in general? Because you’d think that tech demo they had people play would have led to something by now.
Look at what’s happening with discs on PlayStation and Xbox. Some are just slapping on a tiny download launcher making the disc pretty much a waste. They all want physical to go fully away and this is their latest move to make sure it happens.
@Bunkerneath I think they are listed as “legacy” which if it’s the same meaning as their “legacy” hardware means they are no longer being produced. Perhaps old unsold stock exists but I was under the impression they’re no longer going to be sold.
@KociolekDoSyta Emulating systems like ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, C64 and Amiga are licensing problems because they’re still trademarked whereas NES and Mega Drive aren’t from an emulation standpoint.
@Suketoudara Think they all got delisted when EA bought Codemasters. The Oliver Twins one and Codemasters vol 1 on Evercade were delisted for certain despite plans for more volumes. So I can only guess EA put a stop to these plans.
@KociolekDoSyta The Oliver Twins already part own all their IP that were released through Codemasters. It was the agreement they came to after the falling out in 91/92? So they are in a strong position.
A game studio that was once one of the biggest in the U.K. during the ZX Spectrum days of the 80s, now being closed down after a £1 billion acquisition just a few years back. What an absolute joke. And really depressing to read.
@Suketoudara Oh now you made me really want to play all the Dizzy games again. Unfortunately I don’t think EA cares about anything Codemasters related outside of F1. However, the Oliver Twins may well be interested in that idea.
@Zufolobelisk The difference between Street Fighter II and Shenmue III is that Street Fighter II doesn’t rely on a story told through the previous game. It’s a one on one fighting game. Shenmue is supposed to be a heavily story based series.
It all makes so much more sense now. Mario Kart World never blew me away when revealed and like all Nintendo first party games so far, doesn’t make me go “wow that’s why I need the new Switch 2 console”. Of course I did buy the console but it’s the third party games that I’m interested in.
One way they could help improve things is by not setting out of reach high sales expectations on everything they produce then complain said impossible high expectations aren’t met.
I have I think 2 games on Switch by EA. One is Burnout Paradise and the other is some Need For Speed. But that’s all because I’m not really feeling EA has much of quality to be excited about. Maybe if they rebooted some classic IP like Road Rash or Syndicate (not an FPS game) I’ll be interested.
Wait did people think it had any real chance of coming to the Switch 2? We never even got GTA V on the Switch, but somehow this will be on Switch 2? Don’t see it happening.
Guess with all these departures, it’s the end of Bayonetta and Astral Chain. Assume that’s why Nintendo have signed that deal to publish From Software’s The Duskbloods.
@jump Was lucky I managed to go into Game before the October 2016 reveal and put down a £20 deposit for the NX and never worried about the bundle. But there’s no stores around where I am anymore to go into so I’m relying on trying to get a none bundle Switch 2 online.
@PikaPhantom Is that on top of being forced to buy the kiosk console they used which they can’t take home and will need to wait until Nintendo are finally done using it years down the line?
@Grumblevolcano it does seem really weird to keep third party publishers from announcing games for your new system at a time when you would be wanting as much marketing around the games coming to it as possible.
I’m remaining hopeful but I don’t think we will hear anything official for a while, considering the lack of new third party announcements post April Direct.

It be nice if I could see my digital purchase history on the app. You can through the website but part of the app would be so much better

Missing Broken Sword, but I totally get not having the GTA trilogy on the list.

Seems rather redundant to put the third game on Switch 2 if the first two aren’t also ported, but then that’s a totally different publisher.
