@Slowdive I’m sure there are developers with access to the Switch Pro dev kits. I’m also sure there are some with incredibly early ideas on what the Switch successor will be outside Nintendo itself.
I’m just not buying into the idea there’s gonna be a Pro just yet. The world is struggling to get enough chips for computer contents let alone PS5 & Xbox Series X/S. Nintendo would really find it hard to get their systems on shelves. Think it’s better to wait till supply chains are more stable.
@Slowdive I just assumed it meant Switch and Switch Lite and nothing more. I’m not reading into any of this until Nintendo officially reveals something.
@joey302 You think Sega has the ability to understand how to make money from their back catalogue outside of Mega Drive/Genesis games? Such a weird company in decision making.
@KayFiOS Never say never. Phil Spencer for the longest time kept saying how he would love Banjo Kazooie in Smash, right up to not long before it was revealed. I am not saying Master Chief is going to be in Smash, but what people say and what is happening don't always marry up.
@Tourtus @Retro_Player_77 Yes it is because of what has been happening in the US. I have seen various community managers saying to suspend all marketing and scheduled tweets etc. This was not the time to make announcements.
This seems like an odd move for Microsoft to go "hey, Nintendo, wanna have some retro N64 games on the Wii U and not Switch?" and Nintendo going "yeah sure, that system that sold poorly and we don't really support. Why not"
Hope it's a mistake. Or a Switch version is coming also but not mentioned.
Pretty crazy to think in 2020 video game magazines still scoop up exclusives like this. I miss the days of magazines being the main way of getting gaming news and the demo discs they came with.
@Friendly I think you’re likely right about how Xbox C and S consoles were likely split as they are 2 different consoles whereas the PS5 disc edition and digital edition are essentially the same thing just one doesn’t have any way to use discs. And Switch and Switch Lite are again the same system, just one can’t dock.
@IronMan30 @ChaosBadger777 Nintendo would never leave the hardware race entirely even in some bizarre world where they did for some reason find themselves going third party. You can guarantee they would create controllers or accessories to the PlayStation and Xbox consoles that are required for their games. It's how they would roll.
@nhSnork There is no real need for Sony to ever consider handhelds again. The future is, given time, streaming which can be done from anyone’s phone (apart from iPhones) so why spend money creating dedicated hardware, spending money on creating a flow of software, marketing etc in a market where Nintendo dominates and is to eventually be overtaken by streaming?
@IronMan30 People have wanted Nintendo to fail and go third party for a very long time. Even see a fair few get upset that it was Sega who dropped out the hardware race and not Nintendo. There has and always will be a massive grudge against Nintendo, more so when they succeed.
@BlackenedHalo True, I did forget about Crash. I think that’s perhaps the one franchise that can rival Mario in this genre sales wise. I’ll be interested to see how strong the IP stands today outside of the nostalgia generated by the trilogy remake.
@carlos82 You are forgetting that Nintendo’s Mario games always sell incredibly well and when it’s on a sell out system like the Switch, those high sales go skyrocketing. No one else could compete with Nintendo in this genre.
@Magrane I’m guessing that’s not happening. As was saying to @JayJ Hamster have a habit of announcing titles then not releasing them. They really should stop announcing things so far in advance, especially if they aren’t totally guaranteed to ever get released.
@HotGoomba When there’s no more arcade games to port. There’s thousands of games potentially available though how many are easy to license is another matter.
@JayJ I wonder if they sometimes jump the gun on announcing some titles before knowing whether or not they can actually port it. I get the impression looking at Wikipedia and the soon to be released section, that some titles that have been announced spent 2 years waiting to get released but never happened. Wonder how many have been announced but never saw light of day.
@Old-Red I was just going to say the same thing. I don’t understand what the market is for the console version of this tool? The PC version offers a lot more, even the ability to add mods to the engine and the ability to sell said games you create on Steam etc. There must be enough people buying it as they keep releasing home console versions.
I hope this isn’t the only bundle Nintendo does this year, especially as they have 2 big releases in the Mario and Zelda franchises. This one looks kinda meh but then, I’m not a a Fortnite player.
@GrailUK Even Sony is always on the lookout for more studios to acquire. It’s good business practice to grow, especially when you are in such a healthy position as Nintendo are right now. It will help them in the long run. Remember Nintendo depends on first party games to sell hardware more than either Sony or Microsoft.
I just hope it is still relevant by the time it makes the move over to Switch. I do have a PS4 Pro but I refuse to pay outrageous fees to pay online when I almost never want to, plus I’m more often not in a position to use the console but I do have easy access to the Switch at all times.
@Rainbowjames Don't be fooled, they probably added micro transactions via a new petrol pump simulation mode where your car needs to be refilled in real time prices.
@retro_player_77 This wasn't designed for kids. They are designed for collectors. When Lego produces these kinds of things, like they do a lot with Star Wars, they are always incredibly expensive and are always aimed at that market.
I want to know how this thing is going to look on the Switch. Its all fine telling us how this technology is going to create these amazing courses for the PS4/Xbox One and next generation consoles, but what about the Switch version? How will it look and run on that?
This makes it sound like Nintendo have nothing first party coming out this year. Almost like they're trying to keep themselves somewhat relevant by chucking out these tiny third party Directs.
@johnvboy Oh of course. We all know millions of people just hate themselves so much that they are willing to put themselves through the harshest punishments such as playing Sword and Shield, capturing every single Pokémon then buying the DLC to do the same thing.
@johnvboy That’s impressive for a spin-off game, actually only 5 million behind a mainline game says a lot. Also what this should tell people is that getting angry over things on the internet makes no real difference at the end of the day.
@Arnold-Kage That was the whole idea of Nintendo getting into mobile gaming to begin with. The trouble is, very few ever manage to make a success in the market and even those that do, struggle to repeat the success in future titles.
@Xylnox Just wait for when they announce a new arcade collection - pay real money for each in game credit, for that ultimate realism in the arcade experience
Not that I’m complaining as I do miss the days of magazines, but I want to ask how saturated this market is becoming and how long do these magazines, especially Switch focused ones, feasibly see themselves being able to run for?

In before Xbox fans start throwing around crazy rumours of Microsoft buying Bandai Namco
But seriously, this is such an odd thing to do. Toys and video games are vastly different industries, makes no sense to merge them together.
