That’s awesome. I recently bought it for Switch but not had time to play it yet. Hopefully Switch sales accounted for enough that we get the sequel on the platform.
Things are very up in the air I imagine with the pandemic still massively affecting Japan so that could be holding things up regarding announcements. On the other hand, if this reveal for new hardware is true and it does happen this week, that too could be a factor for the lack of details around E3.
The Nintendo Switch. No one will know which version of the console they’re buying or selling until they turn it on. It’s like a very expensive lucky dip.
I have so many hundreds of games waiting to be played mainly because I keep buying games in sales but I never actually have time to play any of them. So when it comes to replaying games, I only ever do that with some older, often retro, games I love.
Can someone explain, being that it’s a US based company, why they’d be looking to float on the London Stock Exchange instead of one of the ones in the US?
Nintendo really needs to get a grip on the kind of shovelware that’s been getting released on their system. It’s made worse by the really poor design of the eShop.
@Slowdive I always thought that and I’m sure that’s deliberate considering how big Uncharted was at the time. Must have launched around the time of the third game. It makes me wonder though since Paul Cuisset was heavily involved in the remake, is he someone who understands how modern games are made?
@Slowdive I bought that Ubisoft remake on sale not long ago. It was absolutely awful. How did they screw it up so badly, and thats just the animation let alone atmosphere and terrible voice acting/dialogue etc. Totally ruins the original.
Damn me and this diet. Now I really want pizza.... I made some really poor decisions in life but a diet where I can’t eat pizza is the worst of them all!
So now both Apogee and 3D Realms are back in the publishing business, only now separately run. That’s pretty crazy. I remember playing Commander Keen back in the day on the old DOS PC. Now I feel real old.
Whenever I see these kinds of pictures, my first thoughts are “I wonder where these people are today” and “I wonder what they think of the company that is Nintendo as it is today”
I don’t think Sega’s international arcade division is no any longer owned by Sega themselves. It’s another Avenue they seemed to have sold off - saw it in a tweet on the social media page couple weeks back. So I assume Sega no longer have the ability to distribute this internationally even if they wanted to.
I just went ahead and bought the physical edition on Switch. There's a lot of nostalgia for me in this game... and I have been drinking, which may explain a few things.
So who’s going to take the role of Nintendo’s mascot? Is Alex Kidd still working janitor at Sega or is he signing on at the job centre? Perhaps it’s his time to shine.
@E1000 Why is it important to you if people want to buy physical or not? It makes no difference to you. People have different reasons why they buy physical. Some don’t trust digital games to be always available in the future. Some just like physical presence they can look at and have for collecting purposes and some have crap internet making digital a no go.
@rjejr At first I thought you had somehow removed the head from Luigi and was going to ask how you managed such a thing. But then I realised it’s not actually Luigi, just his clothes.
@stinky_t I feel like another sale would definitely benefit the game considering no one is going to know about it's existence being how bad the eShop is and how old that game is.
@stinky_t Has it never been on sale? I can kinda understand online being dead, seeing as it was a launch title and thus was little on the market for people to buy.
@fafonio Feels like Nintendo unfortunately only wants one first party racer on their console and that is Mario Kart. It's not like a new F-Zero would take away from Mario Kart sales. In fact, judging by how well games on the Switch are doing, I would have thought a new F-Zero would be a no brainer even if they outsourced it.
@stinky_t I agree. Fast Rmx is an awesome game and I kinda want a sequel to it. Hope it's what is being worked on. Now the developers know the hardware better than at launch, they should be able to squeeze more out of it.
So cannot wait for this game! Though I’m curious as to why they can’t announce which consoles it’s coming to. It’s hardly going to be a power restraint or lack of sales on any particular system.
1st April: Nintendo announces 3D Mario All Stars collection. It’s exactly the same only they removed references to it being 35th anniversary and is no longer limited edition
@Grumblevolcano I assume Activision wanted to announce it on their own terms.
If it plays well on the Switch, I’ll pick it up. But I’ll wait and see. Already own it got PS4, almost certainly not gonna pay the £10 to upgrade that version.
That isn't really that unexpected. I think if anything it shows how much the internet really lives in it's own little bubble... Either that or all them complaining about the price and it being a 10 year old port just went out and pre-ordered. Doesn't really matter as it shows why Nintendo rightly or wrongly happily does this.
@vyseofhr They won’t drop the price of the base game. No one else does that so why would Nintendo? I see it being more like COD only not annualised and without loot boxes and micro transactions.
@outsider83 They did try with Super Lucky’s Tale. However they revealed it at E3 2017, just when everyone’s eyes are on Nintendo and Mario Odyssey. Then it released the month after Odyssey and so all reviews judged it based on their thoughts of Odyssey and I think sales kinda tanked, not helped by being an Xbox exclusive either.
@outsider83 Fill that void of family friendly games they say they’re missing. Problem is, Xbox has never been known for these kinds of games and I doubt they can change that.
@ShadJV I think what’s interesting is that they publicly stated they were rebranding the company. That can be taken 2 ways. First is they are getting away from that franchise to try something new for now at least. The other is they are rebranding to focus entirely on that particular franchise. It’ll be interesting to see which way they go.
@gcunit It certainly felt that way. It was one of the biggest funded crowdfunded games offering a massive nostalgia trip by the very people behind some of the best N64 games at the height of Kickstarter mania. And it didn’t pan out the way it was hyped up to be. I think a fair amount of the backlash was fuelled by social media and news outlets so that may have made it feel bigger than it was.
@Tourtus I didn’t even think about the coloured hearts. If it is another game in that franchise then that’s cool, though can’t say it ever clicked with me. I did buy Impossible Lair day it came out but just like the first game I dropped it in half an hour and never went back.
I feel like they are probably wanting to move away from Yooka-Laylee as a series, for now at least. The first game had such a massive backlash that I think probably effected sales of Impossible Lair. Also there’s rumours that they are rebranding the company and have had outside investment. Either way, I think Playtonic are doing something totally new and different.
