Unfortunately I don’t think whether Nintendo pulls it off or not will change how the industry dictates prices going forward. They always have been creeping upward the past few years. And it’ll continue to do so as long as enough people buy games no matter the platform. Remember also the rumours about GTA VI being potentially £100/$100? I would not be surprised if it was true.
It doesn’t matter if it’s cheap. It should be free. Sony had a pretty cool tech demo given away free with the PS5 day one. Probably cost a lot more to develop too. So I really don’t see why Nintendo couldn’t chuck this in for free, especially if they aren’t even charging anything more than a few quid.
This is the second time the name was resurrected. They were bought back under new ownership in early 2006 as an online gaming company but then went bankrupt again.
This kind of thing seems to happen with every console prior to launch. Didn’t the PS4 Pro get leaked because of a photo of it being available at a Chinese market or something like that?
Nintendo relied heavily on this studio to produce the more mature exclusives for the Switch. Curious to know what Nintendo plans to do going forward. I’m sure there’s others that can continue Astral Chain and such, but I do hope it isn’t the end of these types of Nintendo published games.
People will celebrate this without thinking of the fact it will give the execs more reason to close studios and/or let go hundreds of people to myth please the shareholders. In an ideal world, the execs would be the ones losing their jobs.
This screams “we totally screwed up over that whole NFT fiasco that caused huge financial losses and damaged our brand name”. Rebranding the company is like when Hermes changed its name to Evri.
It’s pretty clear the eShop was not designed with the thought of what happens when the floodgates open and anyone can dump whatever onto it. PlayStation and Xbox also have this problem it’s just better hidden.
To be fair, Nintendo leaving Sony may have been a factor as to what happened next but what amazes me is how often the second half of the story is missed out. Sony went to Sega to team up for making a 32 bit console and though Sega of America said yes, Sega of Japan said no and this is why Sony went alone. Nintendo are kinda always made to look like the villain that pushed Sony into making the PlayStation.
@Toastmaster To be honest you are right, they did a lot of licensed shovelware though Robocop was insanely popular from what I remember. But yeah the music is definitely the thing they did best.
Also they were responsible for bringing a lot of Taito arcade games to home computers like the Bubble Bobble games and New Zealand Story etc.
Plus they did have some good original IP like Head Over Heels and Pushover which I got bundled with my Amiga.
i remember when Ocean Software was the big publisher here in the U.K. then Infogrames bought them and changed the name. I am intrigued as to what exactly they end up publishing under this name.
Firstly zero hour contracts should be illegal. And secondly, all this is the unfortunate further proof of the writing being on the wall about the future of game purchases being fully digital.
All three consoles have shovelware just like Steam. The problem is, the way Sony, Microsoft and Valve run their online stores pushes all of it to the bottom and highlights the big games when browsing so you don’t see it. That likely means you asset flip “developers” are less likely to put their crap on PlayStation or Xbox but on the eShop where it goes right to the top, makes sense to just chuck it all there.
Tried replaying this on PS4 a while ago and it really hasn’t aged well in the controls department. Hopefully that’s one area that is improved in this release. It’s the first game I bought when I got a 360 back in the day.
There are so many possibilities for why he left Platinum, so unless it becomes public knowledge this is all going to be speculation. However the idea that Platinum is being bought out does at least have some merit given the disastrous impact Babylon’s Fall must have had and the lack of anything related to that Project GG or whatever it’s called coming to light.
Personally think Nintendo with new hardware on the way and the relationship they have through Bayonetta, Astral Chain and the original release of Wonderful 101, does make most sense to me. I’m sure Astral Chain 2 is in the works.
Can see a number of their studios sold or closed down over the coming weeks/months. Gearbox doesn’t really have much going for it outside Borderlands so was always a weird decision to purchase.
I just got this game on my Amiga 500 Mini so I’m all good on this game. Have nostalgia for this game because I think it’s the only game I had on the Amiga from the series back in the day.
I really hope this lives up to the original but I have concerns over how badly Paul Cuisset messed up that remake on Xbox 360. So I want to keep expectations relatively low for now.
As others have said Flashbacks is an amazing game. It’s actually my favourite game of all time but I’m kinda concerned they still show the gameplay in this weird way.
Never heard of these games but I could be tempted if they come to the West. Since they are fully playable in English already, that shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
@EarthboundBenjy While it’s true they did release a Turbografx Mini, certainly here in the U.K. you can’t buy one anymore unless you pay huge inflated eBay prices. A digital selection which anyone can easily buy would be much more beneficial.
@NESlover85 This I totally agree with. I wish Nintendo had chosen Turbografx/PC Engine for NSO instead of Mega Drive. But since they didn’t Konami needs to make them all available to buy.
There was an arcade game!? I never knew that. What a strange game to chose to turn into an arcade experience. I’m sure Nintendo’s lawyers are already on their way to kick down some doors.
@johnvboy I know, I’m from the U.K. too. I was just saying ours went last year and I know a lot of their stores also went in other towns so I didn’t realise it still had a high street presence

I’ll definitely wait for the physical version like I did last time. Even though these aren’t as good as the original trilogy.

@KIRO Ocean is a far easier name to say than Infogrames plus had a better logo which yes was a blue chrome font in a rounded edge box.
