Same as the past few weeks: Splatoon for Wii U. I played a little of the solo mode back in 2015 then forgot about it. With the servers about to sunset, I took it out a few weeks ago to try online matches and have been hooked. Nearly 25 hours in the past two weeks and approaching 40 overall. I regret having missed out on this all these years but am looking forward to catching up on Switch.
I've only played Blue World but found it super-interesting. My one complaint was that the map wasn't constantly on screen but instead had to be swapped in for the first-person view. So it was difficult to gauge where you were going. Also, the visuals here look a bit last-gen to me.
I'm likely the only person on this thread who will say Splatoon for the Wii U. I bought it around launch, played a little of the single-player mode and then forgot about it ... until a couple of weeks ago. With the online servers in their final weeks, I decided to try online battles and have been hooked. I'm kicking myself for what I've been missing all these years!!!
Splatoon on the Wii U. I bought it when it released, played a little of the single-player campaign and lost interest. With the servers nearing shutdown, I popped it in again last week and am loving it. Let's see how much I can level up in 10 weeks.
If GameFreak had been a passenger on the Titanic it would have been running around tossing deck chairs into the Atlantic and bragging about how much more time it was buying everyone to wait for the Carpathia.
The standard edition sold out around 11:05 EDT. I was able to move it to a cart and then it disappeared. Not bad for me: I still have the original sealed.
@Vyacheslav333 Of course, a mountain of grains of salt are involved here, but this rumor is at least a reasonable conclusion. The screen manufacturer says it's doubling shipments this year of "amusement displays." It could be something else, but we're talking about a company that was involved in Switch 1 production. It's at least worth reporting, in my opinion.
Late to the discussion, but, as someone in this business, it smells a whole lot like, "Call someone at that publication and have a few folks speak to them on the record so we can clean up the mess we created." Not sure I would have run this in interview format.
The Recharged titles I've played are good, worthy successors to the originals, but if Atari wants lasting relevancy it is going to have to begin producing truly new content. You can only remake these games so many times. There's certainly room for arcade-style experiences in 2024, but they must present fresh ideas or they'll again be written off as living off their past, which they've essentially been doing — and not so well — since the '90s.
@CharlieFen I bought Konami Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection in January, and it arrived last week. That said, I don't really have a problem with LRG. If you don't care to wait, simply buy the digital version.
"The description on the [GameStop] website notes how these items are 'new' ..."
That means the packages have been opened, the Amiibo taken home and mucked around with by GS employees, after which everything was carefully placed in a replacement sleeve with a "new" sticker on it.
For those of us who got into this series in the earlier days — certainly well before the current Marvelous team decided 38 makers scattered across your farm was a good thing — a lot of the game's appeal was in its chill factor and the sense that a farmer's prosperity stems from hard work. For us, HM64 is kind of like rewatching a television show from our youth. @KateGray knows this series well and would not offer criticism for the sake of cheekiness or to be cavalier. If your entry point to the series was later than HM64, you might look at this game as rudimentary and overly methodical, and I couldn't blame you.
@HammerGalladeBro Wow, thirty. I've been OCD about playing all the events, so I don't have to worry about themes being unavailable later, as some apparently are. I played last night but couldn't do any better than third.
@Yalloo Because Office is either $149.99 (without Outlook) or $249.99 (with Outlook) if you purchase it legitimately through Microsoft. What you bought was likely a key from a third-party seller. They buy them from corporations that purchase licenses in bulk and then don't need all of them.
Good, because I had "no plans" to subscribe to his rent-a-game service. I was setting up a new PC the other day and found out they want us subscribing to Office now, as though it's something folks use seasonally. Microsoft is going to have us all subscribing to air someday. Sheesh.
@Darthmoogle I think it works as you said: You keep the collectible if you hit a checkpoint before dying but forfeit otherwise. But I have questioned myself on that now and then, thinking I'd secured something only to discover later I hadn't. I found a couple of levels last night I thought I had "fully completed" but were missing one flower coin. I would agree that it doesn't seem fair to award a collectible if you die before reaching a checkpoint. I've actually gone back and "rectified" that a few times on my own, so I could say I achieved it without charity.
@LinktotheFuture The Dolphins' offense was well constructed for that particular defense. Their O-line could pass block very well, and Marino was a master at getting the ball out quickly. So they were able to somewhat neutralize Chicago's pass rush. Chicago's corners, having to cover much longer than usual, couldn't stay with Miami's speedy receivers, and so Marino repeatedly burned them for big gains. As I said, perfect storm for Chicago's defense. No shame losing to Miami then though.
I save all my old consoles and regularly play many of them, so my Switch will simply move to a secondary or tertiary position in my setup. Right now, I also have a Wii U, a Wii, a PS4 and a PS3 hooked to my gameroom TV, and I have a 3DS, a DS Lite, a GBA, a GameBoy Color and a PSP within four feet of me. And still hoping for the time to clear out this mess and get all my older consoles connected to one of the CRT TVs I'm hording. Nothing ever leaves this collection.
Actually, this isn't a bad deal if you need another set of Joy-Cons. It's like full price for the controllers plus only $20 for the digital version of the game. Not highway robbery, but decent savings nonetheless.
This game is a total farce. Those sleeves should also have a reminder saying you need to download a whole lot of patience to deal with the awful performance.
@JohnnyMind Agreed. I think they'll implement the Mario Kart 8 plan for Smash for Switch 2, adding some new characters and stages and just letting Ultimate have another five to seven years to be great.
I would understand if the next installment were scaled back in terms of characters and stages, but knowing the audience, I suspect there would be a lot of whining about it not meeting Ultimate's roster. It's a no-win situation.
We are going to have an historically warm weekend in the Long Island area, so I will likely limit my gaming time, but I spent Friday night with Wonder and will probably cap Sunday with more Wonder and maybe a little of that super-addictive Suika Game.
@JohnnyMind Sorry, friend. I read it too quickly and thought you'd said you wanted to see English language added. I spent more than two hours in this game today. It's crazy addictive.
@JohnnyMind It does have English-language support. They patched that in maybe a week ago. If you download it off the U.S. eShop, English is the default language.
I started Wonder Friday night at 11:30, after having spent the day preparing for a four-day vacation. Can't wait to leave, and can't wait to GET BACK!!!
I want to keep my schedule clear for Super Mario Bros. Wonder, so I'll just be tooling around in Smash and Mario Party Superstars. Maybe grab a few more moons in Odyssey. Kidding myself that I'll someday have them all.
Great, then I won't be able to play Dragon Quest unless I subscribe to Hulu and ESPN Plus too. Maybe just worry about theme parks, Disney? They can't even do that right today.
I would opt for the version that accepted carts, but with most Nintendo games requiring extensive updates these days, it really doesn't make much sense to go physical anymore. What's the point of having a collection of cartridges that will lack the entire game file once the system is no longer supported?
