I really wish I could be excited about this. I love Donkey Kong but this doesn’t look interesting to me. I don’t find the aesthetics interesting in the slightest. Sorry, I’ll see myself out.
I play Splatoon 3 quite frequently. I also own a Switch 2. However, I don't agree with them gimping the game for Switch 1 players and making the experience "lesser" for them, in turn kinda low-key punishing them for not adopting the Switch 2 at launch. Just seem dirty to me honestly. Just release a "Switch 2" version where only Switch 2 players are on their own servers and leave the Switch 1 alone.
It’s a fun game but I feel like I’ve already seen everything the game has to offer in its current state. Worth $50 (bundle)? Yeah, sure. Worth $80? LOL no. I disagree with Doug Bowser on his dynamic pricing explanation. That was just corporate speak for “we are greedy and want to suck all we can out of you suckers who will pay for it time and time again”. I know, I work for a huge global corporation and hear that crap every day.
@Arawn93 that is a pretty safe bet considering Mario Kart was the bestselling game on 3DS, Wii U and Switch. But why is absolutely beyond me. I agree with someone else's sentiment that the game gets boring after awhile.
I haven't been liking it honestly. It looks fine.... but everything just pops better on OLED. Feels like a step backwards in that category but given everything Nintendo is charging for these days one can deduce they only did this to sell us the system again in two years or so with an OLED model. Part of me is starting to wish I had held out for that one.
I got drift once two nights ago playing Mario Kart World. I was a little surprised when it happened and then a lot disappointed in Nintendo. When the *&^$ are they ever going to learn a lesson?
That’s all fine and dandy but the joke is on Nintendo. With the higher priced games and keycards and whatnot I’ll be more selective about which games I purchase this generation rather than taking the “I have to have a huge library!” route. I have 4 games so far for Switch 2 and there isn’t much more coming this year so far that I’m interested in other than Metroid Prime 4. My primary focus has moved to retro collecting and building out my libraries for older gaming systems.
I was going to go with this one but went with a $15 option on Amazon that was pretty solid. I refused to pay the Nintendo tax for their official case. That is just straight up price gouging and greed no matter which way you slice it. We can sit here and blame tariffs all we want but while that would account for some of the upcharge it still doesn't make sense to be paying this amount. If it truly was due to tariffs then the $15 case I got (produced in China mind you) would be much higher as well. So you can throw that little tariff argument out the window as much as you like to blame the "Orange Man" for everything...
The game still performs better on my Steam Deck and obviously moreso on my PC but I double-dipped on this just so I can have all the games I care about on one system....I mean, come on, who wants to carry around two different handhelds when they travel? I love the game and have been playing for quite awhile. I decided to start a new save with this one though. My only gripe is that there are obviously bugs with the S2 edition. For instance, while playing last night I hit the home button because I wanted to check something on my home screen and when I went back into the game, it crashed and exited out of the game completely.
I can’t help but feel they got the idea for Boo Cinema from Epic Mickey but it’s a great course regardless. I do really like the new Rainbow Road but my personal fav is Faraway Oasis. I really love the aesthetics of it, the music, it just feels adventurous.
Exactly how does one get an invite to these things anyway? I always thought I could hold my own in one of the Splatoon invitationals but never really found out how one gets invited.
@Hank_Scorpio I know where the quote comes from but it also goes to show even Miyamoto is wrong sometimes although he was specifically talking about games. Which I guess goes to show that when it comes to quotes not all are one size fits all?
Wow those specs are quite impressive. I might be tempted if it weren’t for the fact I have way too many devices at this point. It’s kinda getting silly honestly. So I guess I’ll just be sticking with my Steam Deck, PC and Switch 2.
Been a Zelda fan my whole life. I’m an early 80’s baby (81) and Wind Waker is my favorite Zelda game of all time. It’s near perfection for me and I for one am glad to see you guys give this a 9 after all these years whilst just recently giving BotW an 8. 😂
I’m not going to parrot what the various reasons people have laid out about giving a 10 out of a 10 game an 8 due to things that only increase QoL (which I do think is absurd) BUT I do just want to chime in and say I get why people wanna say BotW is GOAT. However, as an old school gamer nothing will EVER beat that feeling and experience playing Ocarina of Time for the first time when it was released. That game moved mountains in the gaming world as far as impact is concerned. Wind Waker is my personal fav Zelda of all time but I can’t ignore the greatness and impact Ocarina was.
I finally caved and bought one today. I was going to go with the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 but the deciding factor was that it can’t wake the S2 nor even being actively looked into according to a support ticket I opened with 8BitDo. I like keeping the controller next to my place on the couch and being able to go from watching tv to playing a game without having to get up is essential to me (look, I get lazy after a long day of work staring at SQL queries and whatnot) and I only use joycon when I’m playing handheld. However, as it’s been stated I really hate the fact there’s no analogue triggers. May still end up with an 8BitDo Ultimate 2 at some point though. Nintendo’s price gouging is off putting.
Gone are they days of gaming sites actually reviewing a COMPLETE game. These days they just play about 10 hours...if that, slap a review on it and call it day. They don't even try to hide it as with this article. Unless, they played it on something else fully and played a little of the S2 version then made a decision on the score based on the complete playthrough on a different system and compared S2 version to that after playing for a few hours..
Edit: disregard the text in the strikethrough...I had temporary "Open Mouth, Insert Foot" disease.
After toying around with it today I’m still not too excited about it at the moment. I’m just like “yeah…..I have one. Cool I guess?”. I’m sure I’ll get a little more excited for at some point. Also, a friend of mine who didn’t have a preorder was able to order one from Sam’s Club this morning and then he proceeded to work a full day then walked into his local Target and bought another one right off the shelf. Blows my mind.
Day 1 for me for sure despite the fact I own the OG arcade cabinets. Absolutely love old school MK. New MK not so much. I use to compete in many MK tournaments in the 90’s and won several of them. I had about a 2 year win streak once till one unfortunate day when I was working in the local arcade. Remind me to tell you the story sometime…
Off topic, for those lacking a Yunobo amiibo in the States, I got a preorder in yesterday with Books-A-Million and just got notification that it shipped.
Pretty much a needless article just to be able to brag? "Nintendo Gaming Site Got a Switch 2 Unit"....Whaaaaaaaaat? Nooooooo..you don't say! Well, I for one am SHOCKED, I tell you!
I put in many hours on this game on Steam and honestly I'm not sure why. I think it was one of those games that I really wanted it to be great so I kept playing waiting for it to shine but at the end of the day its just a space crafting game with a little bit of flight simulation and a very watered down online "multiplayer". Of course I haven't played it in about a year so it could have changed...
It' a no-go for launch from me....I don't care how "good" it is. A tech demo should be just that...a demo. In the corporate world when I have to give a demo we don't charge the customer for it. We don't charge the customer after they bought our product and we are giving them a training session. I'm not feeding the greed on this one. Kudos to those who will get some enjoyment out of it though.
I'm going to have to agree with @Smithicus on this one; the Switch 2 launch lineup is highly disappointing. This seems to be the sentiment with my friends and everyone at work as well. Some skipped preorders just because the games are seriously lacking and the ones who do have preorders, myself included, are just incredibly "meh" when it comes to hype/excitement for it.
As for Silksong...I was looking forward to playing this a few years ago but having to wait so long for a 2D platformer has kinda just killed that excitement. You can only maintain hype for a 2D game for so long, ya know? I'll play it, yes, when/if it ever releases.
Still have my OG copy but it’s in the attic lol. Definitely looking forward to getting into this again especially with online functionality. Gonna have to dust off my skills with my boy Cervantes. Fair warning for those who didn’t play it back in the day, don’t “main” Kilik unless you’re ready to be ridiculed. He is pretty much a button masher character.
I respect the original. I have fond memories playing it but after playing the Link’s Awakening remake I couldn’t go back to it. The remake is just perfection IMO.
Shenmue 3 should have wrapped up the story.18 years we waited for some sorta closure and did the third one deliver?!! NO! I’m pretty much done with the series after that but I do have fond memories of the first game on Dreamcast, especially collecting the games you could play in Ryo’s house, the games you could play in the arcade, and all the other collectibles. I also liked how Yokosuka would change depending on the real life season you were playing the game in. Christmas time was magical.

@Anti-Matter that might be the case with Nintendo but I’ve very rarely encountered an issue with the game on my PC.

@Hank_Scorpio Captain America Brave New World says hi. That movie was garbage and was delayed many times.

I just started a new save today (apart from my Steam save). The dev team are great so I’m sure this will get patched pretty quickly.
