Articles like these are silly and tired. It’s like saying my MacBook Pro has nothing to worry about from my new Microsoft Surface Pro…. They aren’t the same. I love my Steam Deck (I actually play it more than my Switch) and I love my Switch. With their powers combined (and my gaming PC) I pretty much have all gaming covered. Owning one and not the other you’re kinda missing out and some people are okay with that.
I opted for the Steam version over the Switch. It performs better when compared to my son’s copy of Civ VII on Switch. If a dedicated Switch 2 version is released I’ll probably get it but atm I’m not even sure if I’m going to be an early adopter or not which is weird for me given I’ve purchased all Nintendo systems on day one since the SNES. The NES was a couple years before my parents decided to buy me one.
Been playing the early release on Steam since the first day. I’m enjoying it. Looking forward to the massive amounts of patches/updates the devs have in the works.
Little slow on the uptick. This statement was released on Feb 6. Kinda old news at this point.
The game has been getting a lot of hate on the Steam reviews due to UI issues along with many other things and rightfully so however I’ve been playing early access since day 1 and I’m finding it enjoyable. Civ 6 had issues right at launch but with patches and DLC it turned out being a pretty solid entry. Same with Civ 5 if I remember correctly. I’m looking forward to watching this game grow and improve granted some of these things could have been included right out of the gate. The statement was released in response to all the bad flak the game has been getting. If you buy early just keep in mind it’s going to take some time to iron out all the kinks otherwise just enjoy it for what it is. Still, Firaxis and 2K should be ashamed charging what they did for the early access.
I love my Steam Deck and I love my Switch. While they are similar in some aspects they are two completely different machines. I love my PC even more though 🤪
Also, I hope that “surprise reveal” quip was meant to be tongue in cheek. There was absolutely nothing surprising about the Switch 2 reveal, everyone else had already leaked it LOL.
@Chimichanga not sure what country you’re in so maybe that’s a factor but the U.S. storefront has the cheapest Steam Deck at $399 (https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck/).
@LastFootnote consider my mind blown. I have a software engineer background and it almost makes me wanna try my hand at creating a game but that kinda success is like capturing lighting in a bottle. If I were Team Cherry I’d be kinda weary of releasing a follow up to a game as successful as Hollow Knight.
The comments here are hilarious especially around the Steam Deck/Ally vs Switch convos…. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone saying those handhelds were going to take a bite out of Nintendo. They still play the same games as a PC so the fact still stands that if you own something that plays PC games and Nintendo’s latest console you’ll have gaming pretty much covered and that’s where I stand. I own a Switch (soon to be Switch 2) for Nintendo games and PC and Steam Deck for everything else. I don’t see how these two could even be compared honestly and when I travel I sometimes take both my SD and Switch…just depends on what games I’m playing at the time. When Valve releases the next SD, yeah I’m probably gonna get it too.
@BTB20
Nintendo’s stock ticker symbol is NTDOY for its American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) traded over the counter in the U.S. In Japan, where the company is headquartered, its ticker is 7974.T on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
NTDOF is another stock ticker symbol for Nintendo Co., Ltd. It represents Nintendo’s ordinary shares traded over-the-counter (OTC) in the United States.
NTDOF: Represents one ordinary share of Nintendo.
NTDOY: Represents one American Depositary Receipt (ADR), which is equal to 1/8th of an ordinary share.
Investors typically trade NTDOY more frequently than NTDOF, as ADRs are designed to be more accessible and convenient for U.S. investors.
As NTDOY is the one traded that’s the one I go by.
@BTB20 well sir, I don’t know what tf you’re on about but one is German currency (the one you linked) and one is US currency (the one I linked). I live in the US so I would obviously be going by US currency when I stated “ Nintendo’s stock has always hovered around the $10-$16”. So, when you stated “Idk where you got that 10-16$ from, but it's been over 50$ for a while” you apparently didn’t take into account that not everyone goes by German currency. It’s really sad that I’m really having to spell this out for you.
@BTB20 you obviously felt the need to bring it up and attempt to wrongly call me out. I was just providing my proof since you specifically said “ Idk where you got that 10-16$ from”. So what I said stands true. In USD, being that I live in the U.S., it’s been around $10-$16 for many, many years. Good day, sir.
Nintendo’s stock has always hovered around the $10-$16 mark over the past several years. No one’s worried. It’s really not a good stock to invest in other than getting to say you own a piece of Nintendo.
Surely they would have announced a Direct by now if it was being announced tomorrow. Don’t trust everything you read in the internet. My friend’s uncle who works at Nintendo says so….
Not a fan of subscription services. Let me just buy my content I want and move on. I stopped paying for my NSO family plan 4 months ago. No one in my house was playing their Switch online (we have 4 of them in the house) and the few games I have played were all single player.
The two franchises I’m most obsessed with are Star Wars (not as much these days no thanks to Disney) and Lord of the Rings. I actually read the “core” books once a year much like Christopher Lee did when he was still with us but I have the entire series and have read them all. I’ve never found any of the LotR games great on a Nintendo console. I’ve also always felt that the Lego games could have benefited from the “Skywalker Saga” treatment but that’s more of a selfish thought since I don’t think LotR is as popular as Star Wars so it wouldn’t have been a big seller for them. I have extensively played the ones on PC though. I actually just replayed Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War. I’m hoping Tales of the Shire is going to be great but unless it comes out on Switch 2 I’m likely to get it on Steam.
@Lord I hear ya but regardless I’ll still be getting Wilds on Steam. I am enthusiastic about the next system but it’s hard to get overly excited for it like I could about new systems in the past. I don’t think they need to move away from the form factor of the Switch but at the same time it becomes more like the next iteration of the iPhone where it’s got great new features but hey, it’s still pretty much the same. I just don’t know what can change about the form factor that would get people psychotically excited for gaming systems anymore. Also, if magnetically connected joycon are legit I’m not so sure how I’m gonna feel about it. I primarily play in handheld so in that regard I play my Steam Deck more that the Switch due to being annoyed by the constant wiggle of the joycon in my hands as I’m playing. Sorry for the brain dump. It’s been a super craptastic day at work with one of my clients so I’m running on cruise control at this point.
The Level 5 games, Civ 7, and Monster Hunter Wilds are all I care about. Wilds isn’t confirmed for Switch, probably because it’s going to be a launch title on the Switch 2 (or whatever we’re calling it). I’ll more than likely get all these on Steam though.
@Jeronan I also do a lot of photography/videography and my rig is pretty heavy. I also play trumpet in an orchestra. The weight of a console at 1.47 lbs isn’t enough to complain about. Thing is I don’t even know why this is being debated. It’s comparing apples to oranges. Try carrying a M16 at 7.5 lbs on a 7 hour road march then tell me 1.47 lbs is heavy. My initial comment was only in response to someone else entirely saying there’s not that much of a difference, which there really isn’t. The weight difference argument is one only found on a Nintendo site’s comments section and message boards. If people are tiring out because of that (which has never happened to me playing Steam Deck) then good. Perhaps they’ll get some obviously much needed exercise.
@contractcooker that’s the hill you’re gonna die on? Weight of a Steam Deck: 1.475 lbs. weight of a Switch with joycons: 0.88 lbs. If you truly think that’s a considerable difference then perhaps someone should visit a gym. That’s just the standard version of those consoles but the OLED counterparts aren’t that much of a difference. The sound is only slightly more noticeable however these slight differences are enough to lose credibility (credibility to what exactly? Having an opinion?)….🤣 sure, okay buddy. You seem to be shilling for Nintendo pretty hard given the numerous debates you’ve sparked in this comments section alone. We don’t deny the Switch is a great system. It’s perfectly okay to like two different consoles so calm down little buddy…the Switch is still on top! 👍🏻
@cedarhyped I don’t see it as competition but in order to get the best of what gaming has to offer these days you need more than the one console. I view them as more companions than competitors.
@MK73DS my Steam Deck is only slightly heavier than my Switch, not really much louder and the library on Steam is huge. While Switch has Nintendo’s first party games (arguably the only reason to own a Switch) you can get just about anything and everything else on PC. The perfect balance is a two platform solution having both Nintendo’s platform and PC/handheld PC. I’ve been a Nintendo fan from the start, having gotten the original NES shortly after it released in the 80’s but I feel that to get the best out of gaming these days I really need to have more than the one platform.
