I love my Steam Deck and I love my Switch. While they are similar in some aspects they are two completely different machines. I love my PC even more though š¤Ŗ
Also, I hope that āsurprise revealā quip was meant to be tongue in cheek. There was absolutely nothing surprising about the Switch 2 reveal, everyone else had already leaked it LOL.
@Chimichanga not sure what country youāre in so maybe thatās a factor but the U.S. storefront has the cheapest Steam Deck at $399 (https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck/).
@LastFootnote consider my mind blown. I have a software engineer background and it almost makes me wanna try my hand at creating a game but that kinda success is like capturing lighting in a bottle. If I were Team Cherry Iād be kinda weary of releasing a follow up to a game as successful as Hollow Knight.
The comments here are hilarious especially around the Steam Deck/Ally vs Switch convosā¦. I donāt think Iāve ever heard anyone saying those handhelds were going to take a bite out of Nintendo. They still play the same games as a PC so the fact still stands that if you own something that plays PC games and Nintendoās latest console youāll have gaming pretty much covered and thatās where I stand. I own a Switch (soon to be Switch 2) for Nintendo games and PC and Steam Deck for everything else. I donāt see how these two could even be compared honestly and when I travel I sometimes take both my SD and Switchā¦just depends on what games Iām playing at the time. When Valve releases the next SD, yeah Iām probably gonna get it too.
@BTB20
Nintendoās stock ticker symbol is NTDOY for its American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) traded over the counter in the U.S. In Japan, where the company is headquartered, its ticker is 7974.T on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
NTDOF is another stock ticker symbol for Nintendo Co., Ltd. It represents Nintendoās ordinary shares traded over-the-counter (OTC) in the United States.
NTDOF: Represents one ordinary share of Nintendo.
NTDOY: Represents one American Depositary Receipt (ADR), which is equal to 1/8th of an ordinary share.
Investors typically trade NTDOY more frequently than NTDOF, as ADRs are designed to be more accessible and convenient for U.S. investors.
As NTDOY is the one traded thatās the one I go by.
@BTB20 well sir, I donāt know what tf youāre on about but one is German currency (the one you linked) and one is US currency (the one I linked). I live in the US so I would obviously be going by US currency when I stated ā Nintendoās stock has always hovered around the $10-$16ā. So, when you stated āIdk where you got that 10-16$ from, but it's been over 50$ for a whileā you apparently didnāt take into account that not everyone goes by German currency. Itās really sad that Iām really having to spell this out for you.
@BTB20 you obviously felt the need to bring it up and attempt to wrongly call me out. I was just providing my proof since you specifically said ā Idk where you got that 10-16$ fromā. So what I said stands true. In USD, being that I live in the U.S., itās been around $10-$16 for many, many years. Good day, sir.
Nintendoās stock has always hovered around the $10-$16 mark over the past several years. No oneās worried. Itās really not a good stock to invest in other than getting to say you own a piece of Nintendo.
Surely they would have announced a Direct by now if it was being announced tomorrow. Donāt trust everything you read in the internet. My friendās uncle who works at Nintendo says soā¦.
Not a fan of subscription services. Let me just buy my content I want and move on. I stopped paying for my NSO family plan 4 months ago. No one in my house was playing their Switch online (we have 4 of them in the house) and the few games I have played were all single player.
The two franchises Iām most obsessed with are Star Wars (not as much these days no thanks to Disney) and Lord of the Rings. I actually read the ācoreā books once a year much like Christopher Lee did when he was still with us but I have the entire series and have read them all. Iāve never found any of the LotR games great on a Nintendo console. Iāve also always felt that the Lego games could have benefited from the āSkywalker Sagaā treatment but thatās more of a selfish thought since I donāt think LotR is as popular as Star Wars so it wouldnāt have been a big seller for them. I have extensively played the ones on PC though. I actually just replayed Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War. Iām hoping Tales of the Shire is going to be great but unless it comes out on Switch 2 Iām likely to get it on Steam.
@Lord I hear ya but regardless Iāll still be getting Wilds on Steam. I am enthusiastic about the next system but itās hard to get overly excited for it like I could about new systems in the past. I donāt think they need to move away from the form factor of the Switch but at the same time it becomes more like the next iteration of the iPhone where itās got great new features but hey, itās still pretty much the same. I just donāt know what can change about the form factor that would get people psychotically excited for gaming systems anymore. Also, if magnetically connected joycon are legit Iām not so sure how Iām gonna feel about it. I primarily play in handheld so in that regard I play my Steam Deck more that the Switch due to being annoyed by the constant wiggle of the joycon in my hands as Iām playing. Sorry for the brain dump. Itās been a super craptastic day at work with one of my clients so Iām running on cruise control at this point.
The Level 5 games, Civ 7, and Monster Hunter Wilds are all I care about. Wilds isnāt confirmed for Switch, probably because itās going to be a launch title on the Switch 2 (or whatever weāre calling it). Iāll more than likely get all these on Steam though.
@Jeronan I also do a lot of photography/videography and my rig is pretty heavy. I also play trumpet in an orchestra. The weight of a console at 1.47 lbs isnāt enough to complain about. Thing is I donāt even know why this is being debated. Itās comparing apples to oranges. Try carrying a M16 at 7.5 lbs on a 7 hour road march then tell me 1.47 lbs is heavy. My initial comment was only in response to someone else entirely saying thereās not that much of a difference, which there really isnāt. The weight difference argument is one only found on a Nintendo siteās comments section and message boards. If people are tiring out because of that (which has never happened to me playing Steam Deck) then good. Perhaps theyāll get some obviously much needed exercise.
@contractcooker thatās the hill youāre gonna die on? Weight of a Steam Deck: 1.475 lbs. weight of a Switch with joycons: 0.88 lbs. If you truly think thatās a considerable difference then perhaps someone should visit a gym. Thatās just the standard version of those consoles but the OLED counterparts arenāt that much of a difference. The sound is only slightly more noticeable however these slight differences are enough to lose credibility (credibility to what exactly? Having an opinion?)ā¦.𤣠sure, okay buddy. You seem to be shilling for Nintendo pretty hard given the numerous debates youāve sparked in this comments section alone. We donāt deny the Switch is a great system. Itās perfectly okay to like two different consoles so calm down little buddyā¦the Switch is still on top! šš»
@cedarhyped I donāt see it as competition but in order to get the best of what gaming has to offer these days you need more than the one console. I view them as more companions than competitors.
@MK73DS my Steam Deck is only slightly heavier than my Switch, not really much louder and the library on Steam is huge. While Switch has Nintendoās first party games (arguably the only reason to own a Switch) you can get just about anything and everything else on PC. The perfect balance is a two platform solution having both Nintendoās platform and PC/handheld PC. Iāve been a Nintendo fan from the start, having gotten the original NES shortly after it released in the 80ās but I feel that to get the best out of gaming these days I really need to have more than the one platform.
I wish devs would stop announcing things prematurely. Waiting and waiting and waiting is annoying and causes burnout. For instance by the time Silksong finally releases Iām just not even gonna care.
I have a picture of him hanging next to my desk in my office. He was such an inspiration and his work ethic was impeccable. Anytime I feel stuck or discouraged his picture is there to remind me to try my best at everything I do and to do it with pride and a smile.
Umm..No. They shouldnāt release it. I played the first two when they released on Dreamcast back in my teenage years. They make us wait 18 YEARS for some closure and do they give it to us when the third finally released?!!!
SPOILER ALERT!!!
No! Now we have to wait for a fourth game that may or may not see the light of day! Probably be another 18 before we get it!
Sure would be nice if I could read the article without having to keep scrolling around to find the spot I was reading due to the ads shifting everything around. SUPER annoying.
Iāll be honest, sadly I havenāt touched my Switch OLED in probably about 4 months. Iāve been playing my pc and Steam Deck though. I really think itās time for Nintendo to release their new console.
I wouldnāt recommend any of the Microids Agatha Christie games after playing through Murder on the Orient Express. They took a great classic and attempted to āmodernizeā it, even introducing new characters with prominent roles that werenāt in the book which just made it āreimaginedā garbage. Sorry, thatās my hot take but if youāre a fan of the books donāt say I didnāt warn you.
Iāve been playing Sonic since it released (yeah Iām old) and I loved the Boom games honestly. The show was even better. Much better than that mess we recently got on Netflix (Sonic Prime). Prime was nothing but battle, battle, battle and very little story and Nine was super annoying.
@SoIDecidedTo I would say yes. The aesthetics got a facelift, no more annoying camera issues, but as far as some levels feeling ādarkā, that is kinda the point with the world Mickey is in with this game. He unintentionally ruined this world with thinner so itās certainly not going to be a happy, colorful place. I think itās a great game and definitely worth another try if I were you however I would probably hold off for sale. I think at full price it definitely wasnāt worth it. It should have released at $40 honestly. Iām sure it will have a sale around Black Fridayā¦
I just recently finished replaying this on Steam. Love it! Such an improvement over the original and I loved the original already faults and all. Thinking about starting another replay of it in the next couple of months. I didnāt exactly get my 100% completion but came closeā¦not that Iām a completionist with every game I play. Most games I donāt even finish due to life.
Iām playing my trumpet. Lots and lots of trumpet. Also went to my sonās high school band marching competition but game related Iām playing on Epic Mickey Rebrushed on my Steam Deck. Love classic Mickey.
I have fond memories of playing this on Dreamcast and PS2 (still have my copies actually) but watching that just now the gameplay just seems super dated. Might wait for a sale on this one.
