Re: Poll: What's Your Switch (2) Game Of The Year So Far?

BrokenCiv

There’s just not enough to Mario Kart World for me to say it’s game of the year material. The open world aspect just feels empty, bland and ultimately just doesn’t work. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has a TON of tracks and has lots of replay value based on that fact alone. The only thing that has me coming back if only a few times a week in Mario Kart World is online knockout tour. I’m also not inclined to give that title to games that have been out for years that got a slight upgrade for the Switch 2. It’s almost laughable to claim a 8 year old game is the best game so far on a brand new system. By this reasoning there wasn’t really enough “new” to the Switch 2 other than Fantasy Life, which is a spectacular game, and a few other titles. Honestly the Switch 2 could have benefited from having another first party title ready to go at launch like Metroid Prime 4.

Re: PSA: Splatoon 3 On Switch Has Made Some Cuts To Keep Pace With Switch 2

BrokenCiv

I play Splatoon 3 quite frequently. I also own a Switch 2. However, I don't agree with them gimping the game for Switch 1 players and making the experience "lesser" for them, in turn kinda low-key punishing them for not adopting the Switch 2 at launch. Just seem dirty to me honestly. Just release a "Switch 2" version where only Switch 2 players are on their own servers and leave the Switch 1 alone.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Mario Kart World

BrokenCiv

It’s a fun game but I feel like I’ve already seen everything the game has to offer in its current state. Worth $50 (bundle)? Yeah, sure. Worth $80? LOL no. I disagree with Doug Bowser on his dynamic pricing explanation. That was just corporate speak for “we are greedy and want to suck all we can out of you suckers who will pay for it time and time again”. I know, I work for a huge global corporation and hear that crap every day.

Re: It's Official, Switch 2 Has Sold Over 3.5 Million Units Globally In Its First Four Days

BrokenCiv

That’s all fine and dandy but the joke is on Nintendo. With the higher priced games and keycards and whatnot I’ll be more selective about which games I purchase this generation rather than taking the “I have to have a huge library!” route. I have 4 games so far for Switch 2 and there isn’t much more coming this year so far that I’m interested in other than Metroid Prime 4. My primary focus has moved to retro collecting and building out my libraries for older gaming systems.

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch 2 Carry Case - The Official Option Is A Solid One

BrokenCiv

I was going to go with this one but went with a $15 option on Amazon that was pretty solid. I refused to pay the Nintendo tax for their official case. That is just straight up price gouging and greed no matter which way you slice it. We can sit here and blame tariffs all we want but while that would account for some of the upcharge it still doesn't make sense to be paying this amount. If it truly was due to tariffs then the $15 case I got (produced in China mind you) would be much higher as well. So you can throw that little tariff argument out the window as much as you like to blame the "Orange Man" for everything...

Re: Review: No Man's Sky - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Hello Games' Classic Without Cuts Or Concessions

BrokenCiv

The game still performs better on my Steam Deck and obviously moreso on my PC but I double-dipped on this just so I can have all the games I care about on one system....I mean, come on, who wants to carry around two different handhelds when they travel? I love the game and have been playing for quite awhile. I decided to start a new save with this one though. My only gripe is that there are obviously bugs with the S2 edition. For instance, while playing last night I hit the home button because I wanted to check something on my home screen and when I went back into the game, it crashed and exited out of the game completely.

Re: Review: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - The Best Way To Play, But 'Zelda Notes' Sucks

BrokenCiv

I’m not going to parrot what the various reasons people have laid out about giving a 10 out of a 10 game an 8 due to things that only increase QoL (which I do think is absurd) BUT I do just want to chime in and say I get why people wanna say BotW is GOAT. However, as an old school gamer nothing will EVER beat that feeling and experience playing Ocarina of Time for the first time when it was released. That game moved mountains in the gaming world as far as impact is concerned. Wind Waker is my personal fav Zelda of all time but I can’t ignore the greatness and impact Ocarina was.

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - A New Benchmark In Comfort And Design

BrokenCiv

I finally caved and bought one today. I was going to go with the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 but the deciding factor was that it can’t wake the S2 nor even being actively looked into according to a support ticket I opened with 8BitDo. I like keeping the controller next to my place on the couch and being able to go from watching tv to playing a game without having to get up is essential to me (look, I get lazy after a long day of work staring at SQL queries and whatnot) and I only use joycon when I’m playing handheld. However, as it’s been stated I really hate the fact there’s no analogue triggers. May still end up with an 8BitDo Ultimate 2 at some point though. Nintendo’s price gouging is off putting.

BrokenCiv

Gone are they days of gaming sites actually reviewing a COMPLETE game. These days they just play about 10 hours...if that, slap a review on it and call it day. They don't even try to hide it as with this article. Unless, they played it on something else fully and played a little of the S2 version then made a decision on the score based on the complete playthrough on a different system and compared S2 version to that after playing for a few hours..

Edit: disregard the text in the strikethrough...I had temporary "Open Mouth, Insert Foot" disease.

Re: Hardware Review (In Progress): Nintendo Switch 2 - A Faster, Slicker, Sexier Switch

BrokenCiv

After toying around with it today I’m still not too excited about it at the moment. I’m just like “yeah…..I have one. Cool I guess?”. I’m sure I’ll get a little more excited for at some point. Also, a friend of mine who didn’t have a preorder was able to order one from Sam’s Club this morning and then he proceeded to work a full day then walked into his local Target and bought another one right off the shelf. Blows my mind.
