@NintyMan you're 100% right. It's been confirmed that those generic fighters eventually became capt falcon.
Out of all the games in the series, the original was the one that had the most fun factor to me. This is probably because at the time we weren't taking it too seriously like we did with melee onward. So many good memories with this game but now I can recreate most of them on the Wii U with more characters and players (y u no have sector z and saffron city lol)
I could see either as a movie or preferably a stage show a remake of the Wizard, and it could be great if it were to lampshade the things that made the original so corny and terrible.
Let's please not have a sm4sh vs melee war. It makes orphans cry. Whatever happened to #oneunit anyway.
Srsly though, both games are great and I'm glad to see them both get strong representation. Since both iterations of smash play differently than any of the other fighting games there (what other series plays like them besides Cartoon Network punch time explosion?), they can both represent diversity in the fgc and thrive at the same time.
Is Ryu petting Yoshi or grabbing his head??? And LOL at Samus too. These yoshis are so adorkable I think I'll have to make an exception to my no Amiibo policy.
@Captain_Gonru who knew this would start up a discussion on eschatology? lol
And actually it has been done before with Link in Soul Calibur 2 for the GameCube. Clearly a better option than heihachi for ps2 or spawn for the Xbox.
That being said, I have no interest in skylanders and I'm intrigued by this too. I guess I'm a marketeer at heart but this seems genius. I hope bowser is sold separately from the pack so I can have this one as a smash bros. partner.
Actually I really enjoy the mii costumes, but it could be because miis are my favorite character in this game. X, protoman, and Dunban costumes were my favorites and looking at the share miis feature it seems a lot of other people like the costumes as well. Link's costume seems to be really popular for making Lonk.
My only question is, what's with all the gunner costumes? It makes sense with the megaman costumes and the inklings but this k.k. slider one is out of left field. I'd just strap the ukulele on his back and make it a brawler or something.
Theory: Maybe they're able to do more with the gunner's model than the other two. Check out the inkling's squirt gun and how different it looks compared to the default arm cannon.
Yes please! This is a great idea and I'm surprised it wasn't talked about sooner. Even if they're delaying tournament mode and the miiverse stage to get this working I'm okay with it.
My pick for first is 4 of @quorthon 's 5. Pong, space invaders, pac-man and super Mario bros. Those seem to have the most influence out of all the choices in the list.
I can see angry birds in particular for the impact it had on the mobile gaming industry, but definitely not as the number one entry.
@StarDust4Ever totally with you on GameCube support. If indie accessorie companies can make their own adapters, why can't indie game companies have it as an option? Unless Nintendo "quality control" says no
I really want this to be real, even though the chances seem slim
Is the Rayman trophy a western exclusive by any chance? It'd be kinda neat to get a western exclusive character and Japan could get Sukapon. Either that or they could be alt costumes.
So can somebody explain the mii thing? So I can upload my Mii fighters to this database and other people can download them? I don't recall Nintendo ever mentioning that but good on em
If it were up to me (and it's not ) I would have all the characters available from the beginning of the game for the sake of tournaments and stuff and you could unlock alt skins/costumes, like alph for beatung Classic mode with olimar or daisy for winning 10 matches as peach. But I'm not complaining - everything is a lot easier to unlock this time anyway, and you don't have to trudge through another subspace emissary more to unlock everyone the "easy way"
I didn't know that all the anime fighting games worked this way. The first thing that came to my mind was a simplified DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3, which is great for me because that game's overcomplicatedness kinda ruined it for me. But if this doesn't come to the Wii U but that One Piece game works similar then sign me up
@Dezzy I get what you're saying to an extent, especially with this coming from Angry Bunnies land, but I start to wonder when we have to get to the point where "there is nothing new under the sun". If people were afraid to copy the street fighter fighting system we wouldn't have king of fighters, samurai shodown, etc. Cartoon Network and that indie Touhou Smash Bros. clone have the same damage and knock-off-the-stage system but bring something new to the table. Is the island concept enough to differentiate this one? (Bunnies instead of birds obviously weren't)
I like these Mario and Luigi amiibos WAY more than their Smash Bros. counterparts. Didn't like serious Mario from Brawl, don't like him now; and what's with Luigi planking the air? LOL Also digging Charizard, Wario and Lucina from the Smash set.
@potatomage7: that's just the uncanny valley that seems to come with the territory on most of the amiibos I think
I know the fact that this game can be placed right next to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the main menu screen is illiciting some kind of reaction from me, but I don't know what reaction that is quite yet.
@ultraraichu The only thing that that game had going for it was a super meter to build up their version of the final smash. If this game can pull that off (which if I'm not mistaken, they are attempting to implement that in some fashion) than there's no reason for me to take any interest in what should have been a love letter to CN and SSB.
@Guybrush20X6: TMNT: Smash-Up for the wii was clearly strategically named, but it also had the advantage of buying the rights to Brawl's engine. Super Smash in the name might be cutting it too close.
@ultraraichu: Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion uses the same % system actually so the concept can be used by other companies. That game apparently though was weak so I hope this one fares better. Interesting that fan projects (PM - granted it was a mod but still, SSF2) sometimes get controls down better than official games.
Got the pdp one and it's served me well so far. Looking forward to possibly getting this one too though as it looks like it feels more like the original.
I know that Kalos is the pokemon world's version of France, but definitely getting major Lumiose city vibes with the buildings in the front.
Games like this will rise or fall on the company's willingness not to take themselves too seriously, which is what the trailer seems to convey and why I'm actually looking forward to this. Spikey walls may deserve the hate it gets (in my opinion it's still the best flappy bird clone out there because button presses), but the fact that rcmadiax is able to laugh at himself and simply have a good time at his job when so many indie companies take things way too seriously may be what keeps him afloat. Look at the demise of the ucraft kickstarter and the overzealousness of the trailers (we don't want your money...we want your hearts) for an opposite example.
I hope I don't come across as too demanding when I request this but a review of this and the hori would be appreciated now more than ever because I really don't know if/when I'll be getting the gc adapter.
Got wheel of fortune and jeopardy today for $10 apiece, which is about as much as I'd be willing to pay for them. Not expecting greatness but they'll make for good family games to complement smash bros and mario kart methinks.
It's a good thing I've mastered using the 2ds as a controller
Yeah I think there's a variety of factors here. Nintendo underestimated, stores underestimated, and people bought two at a time for 8 player smash perhaps?
Smashboards is also very warm to the idea of 4 vs. 4 tournaments, and they're like, the authority on this sort of thing. Looking forward to getting a guild together because I prefer team matches to singles
With all of the hype from the prerelease photos, etc. it seems we have nowhere to go but disappointed. Just like brawl. Not trying to be a downer but totally saw it coming.
@LtAldoRaine I totally started singing that song when I first saw it.
And I thought there's something similar in the 3ds mode during the run and jump races, except they KO you no matter what your percent is. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Re: Feature: Handheld LCD Gaming Past And Present
My main recollection of LCD games were the sonic the hedgehog ones that came with McDonald's happy meals.
And my grandparents had one of those 100 in 1 games but I think most of them were variants of Tetris.

Re: Nintendo Continues to Consider the Prospects of the Movie Industry
