No one’s going to comment on how the main character lives with only his mother and has a “rival”? I’m trying to work something up but can’t think of anything witty enough.
What little we saw of the combat actually has me interested, namely that the town itself seems to work as an ever changing party in your battles. But I don’t know how accurate this is and I want to wait for the game to come out rather than pre-buying.
I got to see the Lite up close tonight and there seems to be some sort of guard under the stick that’s different from what I see on the joy-cons. Perhaps this protects against debris? Anybody else notice this?
“Epic's rather vague warning about not being able to re-connect Epic Accounts with new Nintendo IDs means we're too scared to risk losing over 350 hours of progress.”
None of this surprises me and I’ve pretty much accepted it. Nice to have Toriyama’s work acknowledged in some way in the form of Dragon Quest representation.
That being said, I do have to point out that a big portion of video gaming’s success, and Nintendo’s in particular, has come through the proliferation of licensed games. For better or for worse they have a huge impact on the industry and I wouldn’t mind seeing some kind of tasteful shout-out without opening the proverbial floodgates on character choices. I’m not sure who would qualify, but I’m not convinced Goku is the best candidate. Scrooge McDuck perhaps?
To give credit where it’s due we do have one thing from a licensed property in Smash Bros already; the Motion Sensor Bomb’s original design was taken directly from Goldeneye 64
My money’s on Haohmaru or Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown. The latter is apparently pretty popular in Japan a la Hero, and after I did some research I feel like she’d be a fun unique addition to the cast.
@KingBowser86 Glad I’m not the only one to ask the question, “Why does Mario look so angry in these games?” Brawl/Smash 4 had it the worst in my opinion, and they’ve started to soften it somewhat in Ultimate, but Smash 64’s model captures his whimsy the best.
@Wavey84 interesting comments, considering I find the 64 character models to have a ton of personality. I’ll admit there’s not a lot of content there, but there’s something about its simplicity that I can appreciate too,
I’m thinking this probably falls under parody/fair use somehow and KISS won’t sue. I’m trying to think of other non-public domain works they’ve referenced in the past.
Anybody else notice the glitch when your opponent in battle uses a healing item. For example, it says “You used a full restore” instead of the opponent. So what, you gave them one out of mercy?
@AlternateButtons - even if you're right (my joycons haven't drifted either, I did have an interference issue once), why you gotta be so mean about it?
@ALinkttPresent @MarkieMania95 is right. There’ve been a few Gen 1 Pokemon with special hats that don’t make it to Let’s Go. I doubt Armored Mewtwo is going to be different.
But the real question is will we be able to bring them into Pokémon Home?
@Xelha You may be more right than you realize. SilphSpectre has a video on the subject that actually suggests something like this because of Pokémon Go’s meteoric rise: https://youtu.be/6dR5NDcvm4M
Not an excuse by any means, but a reasonable explanation
@Vectorman believe it or not, I’m pretty sure I’ve never played the original. I tried Sonic 2 on one of those atgames things and Sonic CD in the gems collection. And I also have Mania on the switch.
The switch mini doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. New Pokémon games are coming and parents probably aren’t going to buy a $300 handheld for each of their kids. Curious why it wasn’t mentioned at E3 though. There’s arguments for and against to be sure.
It’s hard to really know what to do with polls like these. Gothita was one of the pokemon that got no votes, for example, but its final evo Gothitelle is a pretty notable gen 5 Pokémon. Like, to the point where there was a rumor it would be in Smash ultimate and people actually believed it.
Ehh....less than ideal choice of words on the author’s part - taken enough counseling classes to know you don’t just throw around absolute words like “everyone” and “always”
I get where they’re coming from though (both the author and Gamefreak) about the need to streamline. Just thinking about the possibility of a game with over 1000 different Pokémon forms along with Megas, Z-moves and Dynamaxing all coexisting immediately calls to mind words like “cluttered” and “hodgepodge”.
On the other hand I definitely see the emotional attachment people have toward Pokémon they’ve raised up all the way through Gen 3. I’m far from the first person to note this, but the core issue here seems to be poor communication on Game Freak’s part. People are using references like The Purge and Infinity War implying that Pokémon not in the Galar Dex will metaphorically die or be rendered useless. Masuda mentioned very briefly that different Pokémon will have the opportunity to go on different adventures but didn’t give us any detail on what that means and he really should have.
An ideal future in my eyes would be one where Pokémon Home serves as a much more holistic base, covering main series games, remakes with old mechanics reincluded, and side games like Mystery Dungeon and Conquest. No gimmick or Pokémon would be fully retired and they’d each have their chance to shine in a meta that’s optimal for them. But right now this is all in my head based off a liberal interpretation of a single statement Masuda made in passing. I’m not saying that a big corporation like TPCi has the ability to be 100% transparent. But in the age of indie devs and Kickstarter communication has never been more of a big deal and they need to realize that.
I have Mania already, wondering if I should pick up the original on Switch for $4. Amazingly I don’t think i’ve actually played the original Sonic the Hedgehog yet.

Re: Switch Lite Teardown Suggests It Has The Same Drift-Prone Analogue Sticks As Standard Model
When you say “2017 joy-cons”, are first year models the only ones reporting the issue? Has Nintendo revised it with the ones released in 2018 onward?
My guess is no because we keep hearing about it, but I’d like to just chalk it up to the perils of early adoption if possible
Re: Nintendo Shares Zelda-Themed Mario Maker 2 Courses To Celebrate Link's Awakening Day
@ChromaticDracula Black and white...or green and green?
Re: Sonic Monopoly Scraps The Usual Formula For Rings, Emeralds And Boss Battles
There is a regular Sonic Monopoly too if you have to have the classic gameplay. This is a nice alternative though.
Edit: @playoldgames that is correct. So now we have Sonic, Mario, Mario Kart and Overwatch variants.

There is a solution. Just don’t play Fortnite

Maybe it’s just after one of those background “Surprise Trades”.
Re: Reminder: Rate Your Favourite GameCube Games
The original NBA Street isn’t on here. Was it only a GameCube release in North America or something?
I know the two sequels give us more, and v3 has Mario, Luigi and Peach, but I still have the best memories with the original.
Re: Nintendo Switch Lite Will Use NetFront Browser NX For Online Tech
@iN5OMANiAC Fair enough, but it’s times like this when I kick myself for trading in the Wii U

Re: Gallery: These New Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Screenshots Sure Look Lovely
The last game I owned in this series was the original but this “classic mode” has me intrigued.
The only thing is I only have my original pair of joy-cons and GameCube controllers so I don’t know if that’s going to be an issue.
Re: Nintendo Download: 29th August (North America)
Wasn’t the Lord of the Rings Card Game supposed to come out today too? Not surprised though since it’s been delayed so much already.
The Bubsy game interests me actually because of how great the Bit Trip games were. I’d love to see them “save” the franchise

Re: Random: Japanese Fans Decide Isabelle Would Be The Best Nintendo Sightseeing Guide
It’s a shame Tour Guide Barbie wasn’t in the video game version of Toy Story 2. So I’ll throw out there the Smash Bros announcer.

@patbacknitro18 The alt for Solo (Fishboy) has black hair and is dressed in Orange and Navy Blue like Goku. It’s a stretch but still

Mutant mudds was definitely worth purchasing on sale (I took advantage of a previous offer). Soccer slammers controlled awful though.
