The suspect tomato

The Super Smash Bros. series has had its fair share of glitches over the years, but this latest one might take the cake, or should we say tomato.

Presenting – the Maxim Tomato glitch. This freshly ripened error allegedly morphs all items in any mode into tomatoes whilst maintaining the primary functions. Character move sets are also affected by the glitch, spawning tomatoes in place of specific abilities.

Want a Smash Ball? How about a tomato ball instead? Or how about a Super Leaf item that gives Mario and company a tanooki tail and ears? No, forget that, a tomato hat and tail would be much more entertaining. And what about the Steel Diver gun, wouldn't you prefer it shot tomatoes instead of submarines? Of course you would!

Reportedly an isolated incident affecting a sole Super Smash Bros. 3DS user, the glitch occurs when a copy of Smash Bros. 3DS with patch 1.0.4 installed on it (necessary to play the game online) is inserted into a particular 3DS XL. If the patch is uninstalled, the issue goes away. The user has tried everything from factory resets, to SD card wipes, and still hasn't found a solution.
