If we were betting individuals, which we're not, we'd expect some kind of main-series Pokémon title next year on 3DS or - who knows? - maybe even the NX. After two years on the bounce with Pokémon X & Y and then Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, this year we're in spin-off territory with Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon. The timeline makes sense.
One potential new 'mon that could appear may have been spotted, too, in screenings for Hoopa & The Clash of Ages - that's the new Pokémon that's been released in Japan. It appeared in a teaser for next year's movie, to be specific, and a friend of Serebii gave the following details.
She describes it as being bright green with one eye larger than the other. During the trailer for next years movie, its eye looked through the O of the word Pokémon and then it blobbed about. This was then followed by the large new Pokémon silhouette revealed on July 12th. Gin has kindly provided a few possible sketches of this Pokémon, but it is likely to differ greatly. It of course could still be an alternate form, a weird separated part of a new form of an existing Pokémon or something completely new, but it remains to be seen.
Those sketches are below - they're not masterpieces, but are still infinitely better than what your humble writer could produce.
This writer's not sure what to think and will happily bow down to your expertise in the comments section.

There are few things in the world that get me more excited than a new pokemon getting revealed. I wonder since next year is the 20th anniversary of the series if they will do something special or if it is going to be more underwhelming of a reveal like X2/Y2 or Z.
@dadajo I know it's already been done, but I'd love them to redo Leaf Green and Fire Red with the Sevii isles, would love to see Kanto in todays Pokemon games style.
I've heard some people say it could be a 7th generation Pokemon, kinda like how munchlax and lucario were revealed before their generation. I don't think so, but it's interesting speculation
Very interesting, but I wonder if it is too soon. I would expect at least a year and a half until the next game.
Hmmm
I think we're getting Generation 7 next year for the Pokemon 20th Anniversary. Calling it now.
Well , since we're not getting any main pokemon game this year , I think that they're creating something special for the 20th anniversary of the series . Also , pokemon super mystery dungeon looks really promising with its 720~ pokemon in it .
I'm not much into Pokemon but if I have anything to say it is this, loved X and Y , did not like Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire.
Pokemon XZ/YZ next year, Gen 7 in 2017. New Gen 7 Pokemon could be teased beforehand.
Hrm...it very well is likely to be a Gen. 7 Pokémon, much like say Munchlax and Lucario as one of the commenters above stated...but I don't think well see Gen. 7 next year. PKMN Z, definitely, but why no Gen. 7??? Simple, if the NX is a hybrid or handheld thats where Gen.7 will get its start (at least I hope they won't repeat the Black and White mistake!), but that wouldn't happen until 2017 at the earliest, a little Pokémon Z to hold us over until Gen. 7 in 2017.
Pokemon needs to die.
A new pokemon reveal that WASN'T leaked through hacking? Witchcraft!
For reals though, my only guess as to why this wasn't already leaked through hacking is because it may be a gen 7 pokemon.
@Porky Why? Because you don't like it? Shall we ban all the foods you hate from being made or eaten while we're at it?
@Porky Yeah let's kill off the series that gives Nintendo tons of money and at the same time makes millions of people happy.
It's a weird-looking little blob, that's for sure. Like a green shuppet crossed with a goomy.
So the countdown to Gen 7 has begun. Not to say we'll see it next year or anything (Next year's movie being confirmed as the 3rd XY movie) but these movies have had new gen Pokemon before that gen even came out (Donphan, Marril, and Snubbel in the 1st film, Lugia and Elekid in the 2nd, Latios and Latas in the 5th, Munchlax in the 7th, Lucario in the 8th, Manaphy in the 9th, Zoroark and Zorra in the 13th, and finally Mega Mewtwo Y in the 16th. Phew.)
@Crimzonlogic Seems like I touched a sour spot for you to take your time to mention me and comment. On the contrary, I love pokemon. 4th generation and below though and 5th generation is tolerable. They are bleeding the franchise to death with these new Pokemon. It needs to die. Not to mention 7th generation confirms Ash will lose at the Kalos Pokemon league and will start as a newby in another region to lose the next one, ugh.
@Patriplexity These movies tend to have more then 1 Pokemon be the attraction. Just look at all the Legendaries in the 18th film. XD
@dadajo My bad, new Pokemon need to die.
I'm hoping for this to be a 7th gen pokemon, though hopefully it'll be a while yet before 7th gen emerges. I've also heard suggestions that it could be something to do with Zygarde and could feature in a XY 3rd game.
@Porky They'll stop creating pokemon once people stop caring for it and buying the games. This is not going to happen for a very long time yet. Plus I don't understand why pokemon should die just because you don't want any more.
@Porky IMO 4th and fifth gen were the least interesting. Second and sixth are my favorites.
Oh, I totally agree with you if you are talking about the anime. That is definitely being milked and needs to either improve greatly or die...Preferably the former. But the games are still great and don't deserve to die. Keep em coming, and make them good is what I say! They will keep making the games as long as people buy them, and as long as they aren't crap I'll buy them.
What's this about taking time to comment? You also commented. Enough of that, we all comment here because we have nothing better to do at the moment. :/
...Cyndaquil-Shuppet-Baltoy fusion?
Pokemon Hoenn Z/Zeta Emerald? Pokemon XY2? 7 Gen for NX???
I'm kind of clueless.
@Crimzonlogic @crimsontadpoles New Pokemon need to die period. Anime and games. It's funny how you say 2nd generation is your favorite and 4th generation is your least, yet HG/SS takes place in 4th which is a remake. Also, 6th generation is terrible storywise. It ruined the whole timeline that Gamefreak were establishing until then. I can't play a Pokemon game with a broken timeline.
Gamefreak can keep making more main games, but why must we need new pokemon everytime? It's so baffling. Let's have a new adventure in Kanto after the events of HG/SS or any other region for that matter. Expand what already exists. Not necessarily remakes. I hope 'till the day there are so many pokemon, say over 1000 or 2000 including megas, Gamefreak cuts some out in their next game due to time/power restraints (or exclusive 'mon for rival systems seeing how gamefreak are branching out to mobile at the moment), people boycott over this, less sales, and then no new Pokemon. Cx
It's a smaller stage of Zygarde, like Phione was to Manaphy, Carbink was to Diancie, Hoopa Confined was to Hoopa Unbound, etc. Other fan drawings after it was shown in the cinema make it look a lot like a baby Zygarde.
@Porky Are you mad when things aren't about you?
Gen 7 next year, and that's one of the new Pokemon. That's my guess.
@ReallyFeelingIt Hi redundant post.
If a new generation of PokéMon is on the horizon, then hopefully a remake of my favorite PokéMon generation is in the cards as well!
I honestly want a Black/White remake (Probably won't happen until the successor to the 3DS comes out, if ever)
don't judge me
@GameCube that or it could be a new forme. I like where you're going with this though
@Porky
We got a genwunner mindset here!!
Gen 7 Pokemon?
@Porky Okay then. You go wait for that day where people get pi$$ed at GameFreak and Pokemon dies, and I'll just be playing some Pokemon over here.
@Porky There are many people who still enjoy the new Pokemon games, myself included. Just because you don't like the new games doesn't mean that the large amount of fans who do shouldn't be able to continue to enjoy them.
The eye in the o in Pokemon really reminded me of the unown in movie 3.
Dear porky, if you think Pokemon needs to die, ok. Gr8 b8 m9. Thanks for the troll posts. Now shaddup
You'll cover this but not the (new to our knowlage) new pokemon outlined in the latest corocoro magizine? Since this was covered I'd hope a speculation article should folllow this regarding corocoro.
@Porky
Oh man, 18 year old mindset, thinking he's so kool with an "edgy" opinion.
"I have an unpopular opinion to distinguish myself from the bourgeois consumerist lifestyle and to come off as smart."
You're opinion is unwarranted and unecessary. Then again for a guy that uses the name porky, I can see why you're so irritating. Maybe you can get locked in your chamber from mother 3
@Porky
Are you mad when things aren't about you?
@Mona-Reggie Who, you? I didn't mention 1st or 3rd generation at all here.
@NintendoFan64 Okay then, I got 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation to last until I die.
@VlllAxel New Pokemon should die just saying.
@Porky What timeline did Gamefreak have? I never even knew one existed.
Edit: Never mind I found it. How did XY ruin it by the way? It looks fine.
Let's play nice.
~TW
@Aromaiden There's an offical timeline picture done by someone at Gamefreak, but I don't know how to post pictures on mobile. I'll tell you, but perhaps try Googling for it later if you're interested
Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald - FireRed/LeafGreen>
Diamond/Pearl/Platinum - Heartgold/SoulSilver>
Black/White>
Black2/White2 - X/Y SUPPOSEDLY. I find it hard to believe X/Y take place at the same time as Black2/White, but what ruined it was Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. It's got to be in the same time X/Y because you're able to trade and battle between the two. Since we have R/S/E, you're able to transfer from them to ORAS and that's like a time paradox o_ O. Also, since Black2/White2 takes place at the same time as X/Y and ORAS, how come there are Hoenn Gym Leaders participating in that one tournament in Unova AND at their gyms in Hoenn??
Edit: my main issue is that they say X/Y takes place in Black2/White2's time and ORAS HAS to be taken place at the same time as X/Y
@Porky
I thought Pokemon sucked until the new ones came along also. The old boring ones mabye aren't quite as awesome as the more powerful new ones, but I don't think they should die. That's a little harsh!!!
@Porky No, Earthbound/Mother should die. Oh wait... It already has.
@beautifulstrong I feel the story isn't as strong as the new ones because there's some continuity, but that's just me. Harsh? That's fair..
@Nintendo_Ninja It ended on a good note. Wasn't bleeded to death. Point?
I wonder if it's going to be a legendary Pokemon? Eh...probably not due to it's size.
@Porky Seriously, if you don't like Pokemon, don't buy the games. There are plenty of people who still enjoy Pokemon. Pokemon will end when people vote with their wallet and tell Game Freak that they don't want new Pokemon stuff. But it doesn't seem like the time just yet. Pokemon is still alive and kicking.
@Porky ORAS takes place before XY. There's a split timeline like Zelda. One timeline with Mega Evolution and one without. The ability to trade and battle between XY and ORAS is just a plothole that they're ignoring by separating it from the timeline.
@Porky
Nice swearing fool. I've been reading this website for quite a few years so nice assumptions on your part
Younger mindset? No, nothing younger than toddler
Anyone else ok with that guy calling me an a-hole?
@Nintendo_Ninja
Bleeding the series would be releasing mother 3.
Anyone else here think earthbound is overrated and boring?
More Pokemon is always good. I liked X/Y much more than ORAS so hopefully it's a new game and not a remake of something.
@Mona-Reggie I'm not. I'm not okay with that.
@Shadowluigi2 I don't think its size matters. It could be the "cute" legendary of gen 7 (like Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, etc.).
@Porky
If you have such good reasons for hating the newer generations, then why not lead with those rather than the petty blanket statement of "it needs to die" and other such inflammatory remarks, then calling somebody an jerk for taking offense to them? Pot calling the kettle black much?
As for your timeline issue, in the Delta episode chapter in ORAS the various retcons are explained as parallel worlds. Before you even think of sighing, its nothing new, Gen I, II, and their remakes were explained in much the same way. R/B/Y and G/S/C take place in one universe, Gen III through V in another, and I presume Gen VI and up are in their own as well.
So, either you weren't paying attention, or you haven't actually played the games you're getting your panties in a bunch over in the first place.
I dub this post's new title as "Porky vs. Everyone Else."
@WreckItRyan
More like porky pig gets utterly discredited by the rest of us
@Porky When I say fourth gen, I mean the actual fourth gen (platinum, pearl, and diamond). Heartgold and Soulsilver were fantastic, however. They were during fourth gen and have the great fourth gen mechanics(That physical-special split was long overdue at that point!), but I don't consider them true fourth gen. They are still gen 2. And I deeply regret losing my copy of Soulsilver...
Let's agree to disagree. I've have way more fun with the gen 6 games and gen 3 remakes than with any other pokemon games. There are so many more pokemon who got fantastic new abilities and forms that actually made them good! And hopefully they keep giving new forms and abilities to certain pokemon. (Fingers crossed for Arcanine!) I never played Pokemon for the story, by the way. The only story as far as I'm concerned is my journey with my 'mons! Which is why I'd enjoy it if they were to do a more loosely presented story in future games. But the real meat of the game is training, breeding, and wifi battling for me. I don't give a hoot about the in-game story, I just want to be a pokemon trainer!
@WreckItRyan "Porky Pilgrim vs. The World." Lol, I dunno...
@BlatantlyHeroic
Thanks man, now let's report that guy
@Crimzonlogic
I had more fun with black 2 but I love my alpha sapphire. Y was a bit too simplistic for me, even with looker missions.
@Crimzonlogic I agree. Gen 6 did a great job at representing the "Gotta Catch Em' All" attitude. Which is the main reason most people play Pokemon, including myself. Although all the other games are great too.
It looks a lot like Aron from the drawing. There was a silhouette of a new Pokemon teased a couple days back too.
@Mona-Reggie You know, I don't think I even finished the Looker missions.
Gamefreak's handling of recent games has me wary of new games. If I were to get a 7th gen game, they'll need to make it ultra awesome and even then I'll probably just wait for the third version so as to not get a completely obsolete game. Since, you know, they have no idea how to patch in new pokemon forms.
@Fandabidozi @Crimzonlogic
Those honestly were the high point of the story.
I thought the bigger eye was a mouth
Does anyone else think it's time for a proper Pokémon game on Wii U and not 3DS?
@Nomad GameFreak wants Pokemon to remain mobile and portable and is against the idea of it being on a home console.
@Aromaiden Why cant they do both?
Taking a shot in the dark and assuming it's a part of Zygarde granted sapience, it probably starts cute and cuddly like other baby pokemon & Phione, but the mother Zygarde itself probably is forced into it's Giant Forme because of the missing DNA segment.
It's the only way they can have Zygarde in a passive-villainous role without having Human villains or trying to shoehorn the other 2 legends into the movie, kind of like how the Mewtwo BW movie simply went with the "Misunderstood" villain angle with Genesect or how the thieves in the Diancie movie were just thugs with Yveltal itself being a benevolent "villain" just to add danger to the movie.
its generally a rule in pokemon movies is villainous humans ranges from money/power-orientated (The Phantom, Iron-Mask Marauder), passive/misunderstood (Mewtwo, Lawrence III, Molly Hale, Butler, Damon) then you have the ultra villainous ones who has an actual goal (Zero, Marcus, Grings Kodai, even Iron-Mask edges close to this with Celebi) which just leaves Pokemon like Rayquaza, the Regis, Time-Space Trio as neutral-villains for those movies that takes place in natural/unexplained circumstances.
@Nomad I don't know, according to GameFreak, they just refuse entirely to release a home console Pokemon.
@Aromaiden
I think it's that they don't like the Wii u infrastructure
@Aromaiden With Pokémon being as popular as it is you would think that Nintendo would do a home version to sell more Wii U's.
@Mona-Reggie @Nomad I think it has something to do with GameFreak seeing the main series Pokemon games being best as portable games. Actually all main series Pokemon games up to this point, have been only on portable consoles. A spin-off could be on the Wii U but I doubt a main series game like X or Y will ever be on a home console, at least based on GameFreak's history and view on the subject.
@Aromaiden
Well they did do colosseum and XD, as flawed as they were
Admittedly that is a good point. Grinding and training is more suited to handhelds
This could be Nintendo's first mobile game this year.
I bet gen 7 will be awesome, with new features and the removal of some good and bad features, but the return of some old ones. I also think a ton of new Pokemon will be made, and some great mega evolutions.
@Nintendian No.
I feel Game Freak are getting into a big hole they just keep diggin' down.
@Mona-Reggie
Actually, no, they didn't do any of the games outside of the main handheld series. Genius Sonority handled Colosseum and XD, Game Freak only provided the formulas for the game mechanics.
So its not that we can't or won't see traditional Pokemon Gameplay on a home console, it just won't have badges and gym leaders. I still wouldn't get my hopes up though, allegedly they don't see a point in 3D Pokemon games on consoles either now that handhelds can handle that too. They claim that the "wow factor" of it is gone now because of it.
Pokemon poses for trading card photo.
@bob1994 That is true. I take it back.
I really hope future games get away from the stupid chibi style character models in the overwold. The ones they use in cutscenes are perfect though
@Mona-Reggie
I'm not keen on the cell shaded look they've used for the Pokemon this gen either. I really hope that goes too.
@crimsontadpoles
Can you please stop hoping that gen 7 is released as late into the future as possible. There is no reason why it should not be released sometime next year. Look, gen 5 was released in 2010, then gen 6 in 2013. So gen 7 can hopefully be released in 2016. We need as many new pokemon coming in as quick as possible to give the competitive side some more variety. @HandheldGuru97 same thing goes for you. Gen 7 next year at the latest. Thank you
@Anthy
What people are actually hoping for is that the games get spaced out more. They've been coming out yearly for a while now, so extending that to bi-yearly would be nice.
I'd rather they take their time with each new release than constantly churn out games with small updates and tweaks trying to keep up with the fickle competitive scene. What you're proposing would quickly alienate everyone but, and frankly, it won't do much good if most of them will be ignored for top tier mons as usual. There's plenty of variety, what needs to be done is balance what we already have so more Pokemon are viable at higher levels of play.
I seriously think this may be Generation 6.5 being hinted at. Gamefreak has said they want to be unpredictable. This would be a somewhat unprecedented move. The low number of new Pokémon in X/Y could just be Part I. This was already tested in the previous two generations with new forms for legendaries in Platinum and B2/W2.
As for what they would be called... I think it would be another duo of games. But this is just my two cents...
I'm ready, can't wait to see the official reveal of this guy. I can't wait to see what the next games have in store.
@Anthy I'd be fine with 7th gen being released in the second half of 2016 if we don't get Z or X2/Y2 games before then. The recent games have felt a little rushed, and I'd like them to take their time on the next games so that they can make them the best games possible.
@Fandabidozi
Well I like the cel-shading, it's a decent balance between 3D and sprites. At least for the pokemon
I remember when Poke'mon Movies were epic, then by Mewtwo Returns, I just felt like they were Meh.
@Nomad Gamefreak have never been huge supporters of Nintendo home consoles. They see zero point in making a Stadium like game on Wii U for one very simple reason:
-The 3DS games already have full 3D graphics, easily accessible online gameplay, trading methods, a way to link to the PC, etc. Plus most importantly of all, the 3DS has 50 million potential customers, the Wii U only has 9 million potential customers.
Serebii has also posted a better sketch of the new Pokémon if anyone wants to take a look. It's a bit different and worth checking out. I'm really excited, and can't wait till it's revealed what it is!
Finally the evolution of Unknown that we've been waiting for. . .
@Sanicranfast Yeah, I can see the reasons why they stick to portables. I was just thinking it would be a good way to boost home console sales. I mean, If there is room for, say, Zelda or Mario to be on both consoles and drive sales of both consoles, surely the same could be said with Pokémon.
I have to admit that some of the decisions Nintendo makes I find to be quite puzzling, but what do I know about running Nintendo?
@Nomad
Agreed. If I was Nintendo I'd be leaning heavily on GameFreak to make a new Pokemon game for the WiiU to help boost sales.
@Nomad You have to remember that Game Freak are a completely separate company from Nintendo, they are third party. The only thing Nintendo own about Game Freak is the exclusiveness of the Pokemon license, as organised through the Pokemon company which is a joint venture between Nintendo and Gamefreak.
Gamefreak would sooner make more mobile games than waste time on the Wii U. Nintendo have very little say in the Pokemon license. At best, they can direct the Pokemon company to make more Rumble U type spin offs for Wii U and of course helped get Pokken off the ground, but for the most part can't force Gamefreak to do anything with the license they don't want to.
Thus leading to instances where the Pokemon amiibo do not function with any game outside of Smash Bros. ie, no Mario Kart or Woolly World costumes.
@Sanicranfast
Actually they're second party
@Tekken179 I wouldn't.
@Mona-Reggie
Game Freak is actually a privately held company. Nintendo might still own stock, but they don't own Game Freak. They're situation is similar to that of Insomniac.
