This is so cool, but I’m on the fence. I’ve tried Mario Maker 1 & 2 and haven’t made a single level on my own. But I enjoy playing other people’s stuff.
Maybe we’ll get people turning their Zelda or Pokemon rom hacks into Switch games with this. We’ll just have to wait and see
These are cool to be sure...if they really wanted to go old school I wish they would bring back the old art style from Gens 1 & 2...the one that looked like watercolors. But these are still worth checking out
They said it’s been the same since the N64, but I distinctly remember a difference between the N64 version and Melee’s, at least in the US. Did anybody else have a similar question?
Great attention to detail and I’m a sucker for the kawaiiness of it all. I can’t read the kana but apparently this person’s twitter handle is hinopika which also made me squee.
But I just can’t bring myself to purchase the new Animal Crossing. I love the series, but I don’t have the time to get invested in it.
I’ll throw Spring Man out there. If he’s selected as a fighter, Springtron can take his place in the assist trophy lineup. It’s basically a new version of what they did with Toon Link for the Spirit Tracks stage.
@SKTTR Yeah it looks a lot like Wii Play 3, Wii Sports 4 and Clubhouse Games 2 all in one!
@MetaBunny I hadn’t seen that fine print but that just makes the package even better!!! I had expected to get plenty of mileage from online play alone but that lets me take it to friend groups too with ease
I loved the original Clubhouse Games on DS, and the series name works to gather the Wii Sports and Play series under (Nintendo learned their lesson after Wii U it seems). I’m all for this
EDIT: at least in NA the game runs for $39.99. I was ready to pay the standard price of $59.99 but at this price the game’s a steal!
Interesting that they juxtaposed Zarude with Rillaboom in the trailer. The optimist in me thinks they might be related, like Diancie and Carbink. The realist in me thinks, “it’s just two monkeys fighting”.
This is the first I’ve heard of Bookbound Brigade, but I’m intrigued. I know there’s like a billion eShop games out there that slip through the cracks but I’d love a review before committing $20
@dew12333 I do get what you’re saying, especially since Smash clones have a history of mixed results
That being said, this game seems less like a copycat and more of an homage. It’s probably because of its roots, since this came as a spiritual successor to the fan-game Super Smash Land. I definitely wouldn’t write this one off
Sora could actually work for me, and not just because he’s in Smash Flash 2.
If he gets in, I hope they keep at least a subtle nod to his Disney roots, whether it’s a Donald/Goofy team up for his final smash or just the Mickey Mouse keychain on the end of the keyblade. This way, he represents not only the Kingdom Hearts series but also licensed games as a whole, which like it or not has been a major factor since gaming’s inception.
Not to mention Disney has already worked with Nintendo, Capcom, Square AND Rare several times before. Sega and Namco too?
I was dumb and sold my Game Boy Player. This seems like a more affordable way to get back to playing on the big screen.
The Super Mario World I grew up with was the one in Super Mario Advance 2. If I recall correctly, the one GBA cartridge I still have after the ill-informed “purge”. As blasphemous as this sounds, going back to the SNES version without Mario and Luigi’s constant chatter actually felt kind of empty.
In addition, this may have one advantage over the GB player but I’m not sure. Do Hyperkin’s consoles play the Game Boy Video cartridges on the big screen? I know it’s incredibly stupid to consider that a plus in the age of Blu-Ray and streaming stocks, but there’s something so campy about it that actually makes me consider a purchase.
This could totally be nostalgia, but there’s just something so iconic to me about American N64 boxes. That red strip on the side makes for a great aesthetic; classically cool without being too 90s or XTREME.
If only they weren’t made from the flimsiest cardboard imaginable
The series has never been immune to criticism, but I don’t remember a point in time where it has been this large and public. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Even though some people haven’t handled it the best, this does provide Pokémon with a real opportunity to listen and grow going forward. For that reason, I’m somewhat okay with all of this; no game series is infallible and the potential for an even better Pokémon experience has been paved.
From what I’ve heard about the Japanese version, it’s actually really good. Mewtwo has an existential crisis of sorts and it’s actually philosophical.
Which makes the whole “fighting is wrong” message 4kids shoved down our throats even worse in hindsight. But at least we got a Minnesota Vikings reference
To clarify, the issue is not the stance. I don’t have a problem with the Dex cut myself, can actually see some positives in it, and am thoroughly enjoying the games.
It’s the posture that bothers me. Respectful disagreement is healthy and fosters dialogue. Name-calling pokes the hornet’s nest (Beedrill’s?) with a stick.
@HobbitGamer I wish they could have made Galarian Rapidash a little more majestic like its original form, but to each their own I guess
Speaking of...
@Nintendolife, as someone who is pro Sword/Shield, I wish you wouldn’t disrespect people who have legitimate concerns by referring to them as “the moaning Dexit crowd”
I actually don’t mind the bar, mainly because of the icons inside it that look suspiciously similar to stock counters from Smash Bros. I totally agree about the artwork though
@BenAV Freakin’ yes! Me too lol. I’m wondering if I can apply it to any other game by this company.
I haven’t had the chance to play this one yet; a certain game with Swords and Shields in it has been taking up a lot of my time. But I’m a huge advocate for this type of story-centered gaming experience. Being in a program for teaching English has opened my eyes to the prospect of “alternative texts” like film and even games and I’d love to introduce students to it as well
So my first guess is that the Raid glitch is going to be fixed. Along with that, there's apparently an exploit with Dynamaxing and Choice Items. Namely, if you're Dynamaxed you're not locked into the one move limitation of the choice item. That seems unintentional.
The only problem I have with Sword is this: What is a distinctly Alolan Pokemon (All of the "o-o" dragons; that ending is based directly off of Hawaiian nomenclature) doing traipsing around Galar?
@BenAV Yeah not a fan of the music either. And that first song is supposed to be the Wild Pokemon theme in Sword and Shield. I'm hoping we can turn the music down like in Let's Go, which almost feels blasphemous to say.
@rjejr Lord of the Rings: Living Card Game was mentioned with the Asmodee promos in a Nintendo Direct last year. It's been frustrating to watch it get delayed over and over again. Now it's here (hopefully), and I'm not sure I'll be getting it after all
I actually had good experiences with the Afterglow controllers for the Wii U all things considered. The dealbreaker for me though is actually the rechargeable battery.
I prefer being able to switch them out in PowerA’s model as opposed to buying something and watching it slowly die.
@rjejr Yes, they actually went with that sad, generic name in the final product But I'm calling him Coindexter from now on...maybe Arcade Bunny is just his job title

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 12.0.2 Is Now Live
Y’ know I wouldn’t think it’d be too hard to give us one or two new profile pics along with this stability. I mean, it’s basically a jpeg right?

Re: Random: Have Super Smash Bros. Boxes Been Teasing Future Games All Along?
I can’t wait for the next game in the series, Super Smash Bros. Content

Re: Want Star Fox On Switch? Astrodogs Might Be The Next Best Thing For Now
Perhaps there’s a metaphor here for certain corporate entities with too much power (Amazon?)
Also, @Mr_Horizon, I would most likely instantly buy a game named Void Squirrel.
Re: Nintendo's Latest Patent Protects IC Tags Within Soft Toys
The yarn Yoshi amiibos were some of my favorite in the series but they were so darn small. I’d love the chip technology in something more “huggable”
Re: Dr. Mario World's Roster Just Keeps On Giving - Introducing Dr. Dolphin
@Paraka why I oughta make you walk the plank for using such language!
Re: Feature: Potential Switch Port Round-Up - The Wii U Games That Haven't Come To Switch
It was nice to see a bit of love for the NES Remix series again. I definitely miss those after trading in my Wii U.

Did you know that “Kawaii” autocorrects to “Kuwaiti”? Either way, design wise this is great

Re: Even The Man Who Wrote Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Sea Bass Joke Is Tired Of It
I still remember the pun from the GameCube version:
“I caught a sea bass.
See? Bass!
(Why do I keep saying things like that?)”
Predicting the future, eh?
Re: Classic Streets Of Rage Soundtracks Are Being Rereleased On Cassette And CD
I get the vinyl comeback because the audio quality is supposed to be better, but is it the same with cassettes? I’m skeptical.

I’m morbidly curious about Fight of Animals. It could be a solidly executed fighter with an ironic veneer.
Or it could be utter crap

I’ll throw Spring Man out there. If he’s selected as a fighter, Springtron can take his place in the assist trophy lineup. It’s basically a new version of what they did with Toon Link for the Spirit Tracks stage.
And then watch the floodgates open

Considering Mario and Pokemon are my two main franchises (never got into Zelda), I am all over this.
