A nice surprise during today's Nintendo Direct webcasts was the announcement of digital re-releases for some of the Wii's best games. The very first game is available right now, and it's a stone-cold classic - Super Mario Galaxy 2!
If you've never played this game, now is the best chance you have, especially at a reduced price of £8.99 / $9.99 until 22nd January (when it then returns to the normal price of £17.99 / $19.99).
The question is, does it offer anything for those that already own the game? We took a look, and present to you this short video with all the details.

Of course there is nothing new. I'll only be considering the Wii games I didn't play in the Wii generation.
I know you can't play it on the gamepad, but does the game show on the gamepad?
It up-scales the games, which is something, I suppose. However, I would like to see some of the 'rarer' games come up, such as Xenoblade Chronicles
... Actually, it seems it does not upscale it after all, don't take my word for it...
I've played about 20 minutes and can pretty confidently say no, no it does not. It even boots through vWii.
The bigger question for me is why didn't they put SM Galaxy along with SMG2?
I already own the disc version but I prefer it digital. I'm selling or giving away my discs to some friends.
@dok5555555 Yes, it does - Just like all games in Wii Mode
I don't think we should expect anything new here. So, no. Same name, same game.
Seems weird this would happen before 64 or Gamecube.
Well it's not the EXACT same as on the Wii. When you play Wii games on the Wii U, they look better than when playing it on a Wii. But maybe that's because of HDMI.
Ehhhhhh i still want the physical copy
Already have both Galaxies. Prime Trilogy is extremely tempting though as I haven't played any of them and a physical copy is expensive.
Kind of a shame they couldn't do upscaling like Dolphin does, but I guess if you don't own the disc it's worth getting (although some like Sin and Punishment and Punch Out can be had much, much cheaper than the £8.99 special offer price, brand new. I bought Punch-Out sealed for £2.95 over Christmas and it's still in stock). Unfortunately I have all the Wii games I want, even the ones considered rare. Hopefully at some point Gamecube games will follow, although it seems kind of unlikely at this point. Fire Emblem, Chibi Robo, Skies of Arcadia, and Four Swords Adventure are all rare and expensive now, and even stuff like Thousand Year Door and Star Fox Assault usually go more used than a new copy would have cost at launch.
dissapointed that there is no gamepad option. The right analog could control the star easily. I'm holding out hope that this is not the same for metroid. I would love gamepad for all three as an option. Just an option. Sometimes it would be nice to play without wimote. I love it, but not for every game. 100% gamepad support would be the dream. Prime trilogy on my wii u gamepad. Come on Nintendo...
$9 is great. I wish they could up the resolution :-
I'm getting the Punch-Out re-release. That's probably it
How do you get those folders?
@astros75 You click on an empty box and it asks you if you want to make a folder.
@Inkling punchout is awesome.
@Dipper723
I was under the impression that the folder cover was limited to 1 character and without custom colors, or is that only for the 3ds?
$10 is a great price if you don't already own the disc version of SMG2, but we do.
@astros75 - i think it is limited to 8 characters, b/c my TV app folder says "Streamin" instead of "Streaming".
I definitely think nintendo should do an update for gamepad controls if the game wasn't heavy on motion controls. The 1st two prime games were on gamecube so they could revert back to dual analog for the trilogy. Also in mario galaxy you only waggled the controller to do the spin move that could be assigned to a button or even just shaking the gamepad itself it does have motion control on the pad.
@rjejr
Cool I'll check it out today, thanks!
I maybe wrong on this, but couldn't Nintendo use the same load method for Gamecube games. Given that the Wii plays Gamecube, it should be possible.
Still a great deal especially Metroid Prime Trilogy. I just have one question, if they re-release Xenoblade Chronicles then what's the point of getting the 3D version besides just getting a game to play on New 3DS?
I doubt Xenoblade Chronicles would be re-released on the Wii U seeing as it's getting re-released on the New 3DS. Nintendo just wants everyone to buy a New 3DS.
@Tsurii897
I think it's still worth it even if you have the disc version. Remember that it's now tied to your NNID. Future consoles may no longer play Wii discs (plus the console or disc may fail or get lost) so having a digital version will let you download and play it when it'll become a VC release on the same NNID.
I'm only grabbing those with launch discounts day one. I'm not sure Kirby, PunchOut, Sin & Punishment and others will have the same launch prices but I will eventually get most of them.
I'm going to purchase all Wii titles i have already, digital so i can boot it faster and keep my discs/cases still. So great and brilliant pricing.
@BensonUii I think this is a good point and it's why I'm getting these while they're $10 now. There is no guarantee that the next Nintendo system will play Wii discs, but it almost certainly will play eshop games like this.
That said, I hope third party games are on the way. Kororinpa and GoldenEye especially.
@ZenTurtle it does not upscale - I bought it - in fact I went to gamestop today to sell my copy - it is precisely the same as booting from a disc
They should also add Radiant Dawn and Zack and Wiki
@Tsurii897
I seriously hope you're joking.
I didnt expect anything other then conveniance and Gamepad support for certain titles, which is a definite plus in my book, as it gets rid of the awkward WiiMote+Controller bundle.
Personally, i just hope that the 3DS re-release of Xenoblade doesnt hurt its re-release on the, well, lets call it "WiiU VC" because truth be told, nothing would beat the Wii version played solely on the gamepad in a comfy bed
Ill probably get all games that go for a 10er at launch, you cant really go wrong with that.
@vitalemrecords Which would still be upscaled. Trust me, ive played Xenoblade on two identical TVs back to back, one copy via Wii, one via WiiU and the picture quality is extremely different.
@Tsurii897 Games were always bound to your systems internal ID number. If youve entered your Club Nintendo ID, it was also bound to that.
In case of your NNID, its main function is your user profile for online activities. But since its also connected to your CN profile, you can do the math.
I was thinking, Super Mario 64, Donkey Kong Country Returns were remade for the DS and 3DS. and they still released/will release the original versions on the Wii and Wii U (Japan is getting DKCR), so Xenoblade being released digitally on the Wii U isn't completely out of the question.
@SparkOfSpirit
I've never had a Wii so this is awesome news to me since I still have a long Wii-shlist. Pikmin 2, Klonoa, Kororinpa (45€ used), Okami, Shadow's Tale, and The Last Story among others. Either I can't find them or they are too expensive.
I am most excited for the release of Metroid Prime Trilogy as I never owned that title. Now it is coming to the Wii U I am gonna have to pick it up. I hope that it is gamepad/pro controller compatible.
Also why are they releasing Super Mario Galaxy 2 but not the first game? Seems odd to me.
It'd be nice if i could use my pro controller, but I never bought SMG2 when it was released, so eh. Why not.
@FragRed Maybe they are saving it for Windwaker HD type treatment at some point.
I wouldn't expect any form of a HD remake otherwise, this would haven't been a virtual console game, it would have been a Wii U game like WindWaker HD. But I do think the game could have used the Wii u controls/game pad instead of Wiiremotes. All other virtual console games on wii u use game pad, I do hope all virtual wii titles do in the future.
with the possibilities of Metroid Trilogy and Kirby Adventure Wii for a measly £8.99 each, its definitely worth it for those that missed out the first time (especially since the games I mentioned go for disgusting prices regardless where you look.)
on that note, I better see Xenoblade Chronicles in the near future
I'm getting these games for the fact I don't have to get up and put in the disc (lazy, I know) and at 10 bucks, it's a pretty solid deal. I'll make a net of $5 for galaxy and $2 for prime, so there's that.
@rjejr there's a 17 character limit on naming the Wii U folders, but my OCD won't allow me to stomach words to be split in rows especially when:
streaming
Looks like...
streamin
g
So I just named my TV folder VOD
@ZenTurtle Well there is the Metroid Prime Trilogy...
The real question here is WHAT ABOUT WIICONNECT24 and MPT!!!
This is great news! Galaxy 2 would not feel right using the gamepad to control is, however a game like Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn would be suited to the gamepad! Really looking forward to Kirby as I never owned that, and Pandora's Tower! Plus Metroid Prime Trilogy.
I'm gonna grab Kirby's Adventure Wii. I've always liked Kirby, but I never tried Kirby's Adventure Wii. I would love it if WarioWare: Smooth Moves came to the eShop- that game looks great, and would be a must buy- they could even offer a deal with this and Game and Wario (like buy one, get 50% off the other).
@I_Am_Kappa You'll just have to do without the MP3 bonuses that require friend credits.
@THENAMESNORM Radiant Dawn has Classic controller support so if it comes, the Gamepad could be used.
Anyone still expecting a SMG 1+2 HD collection?
Well, I'm glad these Wii games use the save files from Wii Mode, because I was able to sell Metroid Prime Trilogy for $10 at GameStop. Probably not the best deal I could've gotten, but I'm no good with selling stuff online. At least I get to re-download it for the same price, and keep my save file. I like that you don't have to use the Wii Menu to play the games. It saves a lot of time! Now if only my N64 VC/WiiWare games could be on the Wii U Menu.
This is promising for N64 VC. I think it said in the direct that any Wii game that used classic controller will work with Gamepad Controls. So all Ninty have to do is make N64 games available with the same Wii Mode short cut.
For those complaining, look, it's a miracle that we're getting good titles at all
@JasonAnArgoNOT64 Exactly.
I already have both Galaxies and Punch Out and Prime 3.
Tempted to get the Prime Trilogy, if only for convenience sake seeing as I have the first two games on Gamecube and it's not hooked up.
I see these being occasional buys, then.
Like buying retail games on eShop.
Since my Wii U's Wii disc drive is broken (doesn't recognize Wii discs, but Wii U discs work just fine), it's actually CHEAPER for me to grab the best games at $10 each than to get the system repaired (Nintendo wants $175). So this is actually PERFECT for me, especially with it reading existing save data! Please release Fortune Street this way, Nintendo!
@Link-Hero I hope we'll get to see Last Story and Pandora's Tower on the Eshop
@Peach64 where did you get punch out sealed??
That it's not up-res'd or touched in any other way doesn't bother me. You can download classic Xbox games on the Xbox 360, and they are completely untouched as well. It's a convenience. And $10 is a pretty good price for a game like this, even if it's just for the first week. It might speak to how behind Nintendo as a company is in the online marketplace, but I'm thankful for the option nonetheless.
I already bought Punch Out and Metroid Prime Trilogy (and The Last Story) in a clearance sale.....so what's coming up doesn't look too interesting to me right now.
I'd love them to start putting up gamecube vc games though, games like Eternal Darkness, Chibi Robo, Baiten Kaitos I'm dying to play that I missed the first time round.
Mario Kart Wii please!!!
@BensonUii You are assuming you will have access to the previous generation eshop. If they remain seperate as they have been, there are no guarantees that the new console will have access to the wii or wii u shop. Or that they won't charge you a couple more dollars for the convenience of having it on the new system, like they've done with Wii U currently. I think I will just keep my old Wii discs as I'm pretty sick of buying the same games over and over again.
@BensonUii : I was against re purchasing the games, but the possibility of them being tied to my NNID is much more of a bigger deal. Interesting....
@BensonUii @SparkOfSpirit
Ummmmmmm....I think that's a pretty huge assumption you guys are making, assuming that you will be able to download and play these Wii games on the NEXT Nintendo console. Remember, these games are not emulations. The Wii-U hardware physically contains a Wii. If the next console is not based on the same hardware architecture (good chance it's not) you can say goodbye to playing these games on the next console.
You can't even play XBL games you downloaded on the 360 on an Xbox One because the hardware is so different.
@allav866 I so badly want that, I figured it'll definitely happen at some point, but now I'm not so sure... I wasn't following the Direct live, and I thought at first we WERE in fact getting an HD remake, so even though this is cool I'm still kinda deflated...
Just seems lazy/bare minimum which is kinda sad given the potential, oh well if I see an out of print game I don't own I may buy that.
@MasterBlaster Microsoft has always had atrocious Backwards Compatibility. Nintendo usually has the best BC support. The difference is that they usually don't keep support for hardware for very long.
Anyway, you can still play WiiWare and VC games from the Wii on the Wii U, so I don't see why they would do it any differently next gen.
Nothing new here, except having the manual and load screen is an upgrade. Personally, I'm not going to transfer my Wii data to my Wii U because the games look better in standard-definition. Just my opinion.
However, it's about time we can download digital games, and a bit of a relief since you couldn't do that with retail games on the Wii. It's nice to see rare titles here like Metroid Prime Trilogy for such a low price.
@Funbunz :That's a good point. I guess there is no guarantee with Nintendo moving forward. And they have yet to make the NNID cloud based. Sony, Microsoft, and Valve are so far ahead of them it's sometimes embarrassing.
@SparkOfSpirit
Because as I stated already, there is a Wii inside the Wii U.
Do you actually believe that Nintendo will be interested (want to spend the added money) putting Wii hardware inside their next console, which should be substantially more powerful than the Wii U? It doesn't make sense at all, especially if Nintendo ditches it's current hardware architecture and aims for something more in line with what the PS4 and Xbox are doing.
Actually, believing that the next Nintendo console, coming out in 2017-2018 or whatever, will share any internal components with the Wii, a system that came out a decade earlier, is laughable.
@MasterBlaster No, I suspect Nintendo will have something in place. Not particularly laughable, I don't think.
@ZenTurtle it doesn't upscale the game
@SparkOfSpirit
Hahaha right, because Nintendo has a great track record in regards to their online downloadable offerings and how they are made available to consumers via their awful account system!
Also, Microsoft has always had terrible backwards compatibility? The 360 let you play (and download) games from the original Xbox. The only reason the Xbox One doesn't have any is because the internal architecture is completely different. Same goes for the PS4. You really believe the next Nintendo hardware will mimic the internals of a console released in 2006?? Something that even at that point in time, was severely outdated??? Maybe Wii U 2 will come with a stone tablet and chisel then?
@MasterBlaster I agree, their next system probably will be great.
Of the wii games I own it looks like its only pandoras tower that's gonna be game pad compatible!
Metroid trill is all configured for wii mote unless they make a change I think it will be released wii mote on vc.
If it just simply shortcuts to Wii mode, why the heck doesn't Nintendo put up their N64 games on the eshop and have them shortcut to Wii mode as well? I swear Nintendo just doesn't like money.
So, it seems like all three of these games won't be gamepad compatible, right? That's the real bummer for me. I can't stand wiimotes, especially since I have to charge up batteries for them, rather than merely plugging them in like I do with the pad and the pro controller.
Also, this proves that they technically could allow us to have all of our Wii VC and WiiWare games on a Wii U hard drive and boot up through Wii mode using a shortcut. They just won't.
Ha ha, on the Australian eshop page it shows the WiiU gamepad as a supported controller, but when I load the game up I have to plug in the sensor bar and pair a wiimote or classic controller. Hopefully we will get full gamepad support as an update in future.
edit: my bad, just checked again and only wii remote and nunchuck are supported but as a feature it says "off-tv play". well, to me "off-tv play" means only one thing.....
I'm very tempted to get it, if nothing else so I can use the physical copy as trade in credit towards the new 3DS
@brooks83 And allow using the Gamepad to do so. (If they can support it for games they can support it for VC/Wiiware).
I will definitely get Punchout and if the Metroid Prime Trilogy is a good price then I will get that too! Hard to think it will be ten bucks but if it is that is a guaranteed sale from me!
@allav866 I sold my Trilogy for $80 online. How're you not good at it?
You take a photo, say whats included, list it, get $50-80.
Waiting for metroid prime trilogy. Have yet to spend significant time on an fps. How's the multiplayer in the updated version of mp2?
@Dipper723
I'd say its completely out of the question until at least a year after the New 3DS version has been released, but even then im not convinced.
@Sir_JBizzle - "So I just named my TV folder VOD"
If I did that I would want to put a folder next to it named penOciln
Sorry, it's been a really long day.
@Sam_Loser2 Why? These would be easier to do than gamecube (which was never confirmed) and N64 games.
@russellohh It's more the fact I've never sold anything online before, but who's gonna want to buy the game for $80 when it's available for $10/$20 to download?
Definitely gonna be getting this. Never got around to playing the original release of Super Mario Galaxy 2 so this is a no-brainer, and for half the price too!
Man I love the wii u! I dropped out on the wii early on so I missed all three of these games. I hope they run this for Skyward Sword too later on.
it's not "just a shortcut" it runs a modified version of wii mode,
the 'wii mode' dose not support the gamepad controls at all,
nor dose it support loading games from the internal storage
(as it was only 0.5gb)
Well, I missed a lot of games last generation so I'll surely buy more of these even if they look almost (or exactly) the same
Also, the price is great
@FLUX_CAPACITOR Games that supported the Classic Controller will be playable using the gamepad
I'll rebuy it at $9.99 because it's that damn awesome!
Have it and still play it on the Wii, would have been tempted if it had been upscaled, how hard can it be to make an algorithm to convert Wii to WiiU? then the same to upscale, I can see the issues converting a game which made specific use of the wiimote and nunchuck as a pointer and motion sensor to taking facility of the gamepad, that would take human input....
After an initial woot! woot! I must admit that this is very disappointing, however for anyone who has never owned or played SMG2 then boy it's like xmas again!
The cynic in me has joined up with my paranoia and thinks that this is an attempt to milk as much and as quickly as possible due to a possible announcement later this year or early next, new console = coffin nails for the old... so rather than do a proper job that a game like SMG deserves Nintendo are throwing out this half hearted attempt to boost title numbers and scrape in a few extra coppers.
That said I may well get the Kirby games if released as they should have gamepad and pro support!
PS. Why no SMG first? seems strange to release 2 and not 1
I don't think this is "milking" as others think. Most 3rd party Western publishers have already abandoned the Wii U. This is for those who haven't played or missed some if not all Wii games. Nintendo is releasing these so there's variety to play besides the upcoming games.
@ZenTurtle Why would Xenoblade come to the Wii VC when it's due soon on the new 3DS
This is cool and all, I just hate the fact that I need to buy nunchuk again and also batteries for my remote. It's like 2007 again.
I will re-buy Metroid Prime Trilogy but I'd really like Xenoblade Chronicles as well. I don't think the remake would necessarily prevent that from happening but it just doesn't seem like a game that would appear on VC. There were Ocarina of time and Majora's mask on VC and they still got remade and with a high price tag.
Good deal though I already got the game. C'mon Nintendo where are GameCube digital releases, need me some F-Zero GX, Eternal Darkness, and Luigi's Mansion.
Really disappointed they havent reworked the controls. The idea of playing Wii games with the gamepad or pro controller is very appealing and I would pay more for it, upscaled or not. It's really a missed opportunity, I would probably of got nearly every game as it is I will probably get metroid and that's about it. I like motion controls but for me in a lot of their first party games it detracts instead of adds to the experience.
I wish they hadn't trolled everyone saying the hey would be compatible with the classic controller, when the reality is very few will.
It's a great idea and the prices are fair (the current sale price for SMG2 is a steal) but since I already own it I am going to pass on it.
I hope to see some hard to get games come onto the systems like Xenoblade Chronicles (I already have it) so people who can't afford to get the game can get it easily and at a good price.
@Donutman @Donutman how would you play the openning section of prime 3 with traditional controls? It would be a mess
@CommenSense This irks me too, i never had a Wii but bought a WiiU, so you'd think i'm the kind of customer Nintendo does that sort of re-release, but alas, i will first have to plunk down €50 or so to get a Wiimote and nunchuck first, i don't think so...
Best thing Nintendo can do (and as such never will) is update Wii emulation and allow usage of the gamepad-screen instead of pointing at stuff with the Wiimote (like the bit in "Super Mario 3D world" where the player makes blocks appear by tapping them on the touchscreen)
For Fire Emblem I'm hoping they do something a bit grander like remaster the Gamecube Path of Radience and combine it with Radient Dawn to make one saga (and touchscreen controls, natch).
Of course it adds. It opens up the wii u to realise my dream masterplan, have the best of the best of nitendo from nes to wii u, all downloaded onto one piece of nintebdo hardware, playable on my gamepad.
Hopefully and update will arrive though that will make all wii games controllable with only the gamepad, mario galaxy 2 is perfectly playable using only the gamepad controls and touch screen
I never understood the difficulty of making wii virtual console games playable on the gamepad. They couldn't just set each button as the corresponding classic control?
@thaantman Prime 1 and 2 never had dual analog controls on GameCube. They had that "R button to look around" tank-like control scheme, remember? The C-stick switched weapons, if you recall.
So you can use old save files, Fantastic!!! I have been longing back to Pandoras Tower for a long time.
My Incomplete Wii Wish list:
Excite Bots
Last Story
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers
Fragile Dreams
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
Okami
No More Heroes 2
Xenoblade Chronicles
Trauma Centre: New Blood
Another Code: R
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
Conduit 2
Wario Land
Zack and Wiki
Boom Blox 2
I spent all night playing this with my son, here's how I feel.
I spent $10 on a game I couldn't get before yesterday for less than $40. It is directly on my Wii U home screen, easy to launch, and a ton of fun! This is the first game I have played WITH my son. He loved having the second Wii remote and picking up all the star bits for me.
It's $10 right now, and even at $20 is a really good deal. Is it any different than the original? No. Is it still totally f--king rad and super f--king cool that it is on my Wii U? Yes it is.
There is no guarantee that digital versions will be supported any more than physical discs in future hardware - unless Nintendo have said this?
Personally, I'd rather have the Wii discs as the console includes backward compatibility as standard.
Plus, that account system needs development before I'd use digital as a preferred option on a Nintendo console.
No Miiverse, no buy.
@FLUX_CAPACITOR
no, but the later ones with classic controller support will.
@Einherjar I was saying booting from the disc on the Wii U and playing the download are precisely the same thing - it doesn't get any crisper or nicer - just the same dark and blurry image as before. Whatever - I like not having the disc I guess.
@vitalemrecords For me, the main benefit of all this will come with games supporting the classic controller.
Not having to hook up the WiiMote combo for this is a nice comfortability bonus.
Everything is else just conveniance of having the games always around on your HDD. Which is nice, but i wouldnt necessarily double dip for it.
Total missed opportunity. Just add some fricking aliasing and up the resolution and the game would look amazing.
Thanks very much for this @WhiteSpyderZero; I already have all the announced titles on disc, and now I see there is really no incentive to buy them again digitally. Nice feature nonetheless, though.
@FragRed It's not. Only games that supported the Wii Classic Controller Pro will be able to use the gamepad buttons (because it maps the buttons). Nonetheless, Wiimote is the way you want to play, trust me. Best control scheme in a game ever. Can aim and shoot while moving and jumping, which adds a lot. And you can turn much faster, and can set the sensitivity and aim/turn threshold to your liking.
I hope they add Twilight Princess in the future
I can't say I'm impressed with the standard prices that are essentially Nintendo selects prices (at least in Europe) only without the disc and can only play on Wii U but these week 1 offers are good.
Part of me wonders if the Gamepad as classic controller support will be for Wii mode in general as part of a firmware update since none of the 3 initial games support it and only two of the known upcoming games do. I certinaly will be unimpressed if it is like pay us €20 for a game you already have a disc for if you want to use the Gamepad as a classic controller .
I got Super Mario Galaxy 2, just because I'm a Nintendo freak (second time as I already have the Wii Disk)... But I really hate the "Nintendo Tax" in New Zealand...
In the eShop It cost me $17 NZD (AUS $13 & USD $10) - What's up with the increase?!? I can get $10USD steam games for ~$12.50 NZD!!
Already own this, but will definitely be picking up Metroid Prime Trilogy and possibly Sin And Punishment and Punch Out during their first week discounts. I like the fact that Nintendo are using this to release some games that a lot of people might have missed the first time around!
@Spoony +1
My daughter also loves "helping" me collect the star bits!!
Its a bargain for never playing it before. I also will only pick up ones I miss. Poor nintendo, I feel like they are doing this to fill game droughts...
@NebulaGamer - Funny you should mention that, just checked my Wii U an hour or so ago and my box is called "Streamin TV" w/ "TV" below the streamin. Whatever the reason I couldn't stand to look at that lone "g".
One of the most dissapointing sequels I have ever played, too linear and soulless, none of the magic of the first game. I'm certainly not buying it a second time!
Wii controls aren't for me, no thanks.
Ugh. Wii games like this and skyward sword just look so terrible on the Wii U and so grainy. I had hoped a digital version would be different, but it's just as bad. I'm using HD cables in 1080p, but does anyone have any recommendations to get Wii games to look decent on the Wii U?
Id buy it if it was up-scaled
THE BEST PART is that, unlike Wii mode, which forced output to 480p, it keeps the 1080p output, while the game still plays in 480p.
@sarethums It at least doesn't change the WiiU's output to 480p like Wii mode does.
@reali-tglitch You sure about that? When I downloaded it from the eshop it said it only supported 480.
It would be nice if you could play on the gamepad alone.. it has an analog stick and the touch screen could be mapped to the motion input. I'd buy if it offered that option, as having to use extra controllers and attachments is just silly, I'd rather just pick-up, and play, away from my TV.
@Koz The game itself runs in 1080p, but it doesn't go into Wii mode, so the output remains 1080p.
It gives a mildly-noticeable pseudo-upscaling kinda effect.
@Peach64
Well lucky me that I bought Star Fox Assault and Zelda FSA few years ago. They cost about 40€ which is a lot, but still cheaper than at launch.
I've pretty much bought every NGC and Wii game I've wanted to have but it's good to have an option to buy those from eShop. Ahem, Gamecube games too, Nintendo.
So much for that dream I had of a Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 HD collection release for the Wii U. Oh well.
I never had a Wii, so I bought it; I got a refurb wiimote+nunchuck for $30 a while ago. Usually play on a 26'' screen, so no upscaling's not a big deal for me
I think it's odd that they didn't release the original too, maybe that mean an HD remake is a possibility? Hope so...
I really hope Kirby's Return to Dreamland becomes available. I never got a chance to play it. I'd also be happy if this half-price deal for the first week happens to every Wii Game they release.
@Dipper723 For some reason this isn't the case- Wii games on the Wii U look worse than they do on the original Wii in 480p- I thought this was only the case because I was using a USB loader for vWii, but then i just bought this
This may be out of context, but I thought it was worth asking with the recent announcement of Club Nintendo shutting down later this year.
Does anyone know if you get Stars for Club Nintendo by downloading Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii U eShop? Or do they treat it like other Virtual Console games and not add Stars at all?
@Einherjar So now you see that they aren't upscaled, right? They look just the same as before.
@1BrightGamer I got coins for it - I'm in the US - but yeah you get "points"
@reali-tglitch It goes into wii mode - so yeah - it runs at 480p - you're wrong
I noticed you have a folder marked "DS". Do they have DS games on the Wii U now?
@ZenTurtle They dont need to, its being ported to the new 3ds. if they did it would mean less money for them because people already have the system
