Re: Wii U-Exclusive Super Smash Bros. Modes and Challenges Unveiled

Battista

@Joruus_Cbaoth But Smash Tour isn't the single player mode, it's "the wii u alternative to smash run", hence a multiplayer experience. Or were you talking about new classic mode, which I'm still not totally up to speed on.

And I've actually had some great memories playing mario party 2 in the dorm and monopoly with my dad, so the board game appeals to me

Ignore the skeptics Sakurai

This does look like a nice diversion, definitely not going to be a primary thing though. Just like Smash run. I especially look forward to the "use all the fighters you've collected as individual stocks" at the end. Reminds me of Marvel Vs. Capcom/King of Fighters.

@Joruus_Cbaoth: In Nintendo's defense my guess is the "true potential" is either for 8-player mode or just everything this game has to offer on the whole, in which case it is definitely satisfying.

Re: UCraft Developer Promises Extensive Features and Releases New Trailer

Battista

A few observations on the new trailer:

1) We don't want your money - YOU LIE!
2) The contrast between the character models and the overworld is jarring, but I suppose that separates "Mighty Mike" from Steve. Hopefully we can customize him too.
3) Intergration - derp :3
3) The paint app looks promising, and supposedly that's another game due out on the eshop? Can anybody let me know?

And my thoughts on the game in general
1) There is such a thing as "stylistic suck" - making something look intentionally bad for the sake of humor, even though it plays fine. The Dangeresque series (Strong Bad 4 on Wiiware) is a good example. Whether the art style dissonance is stylistic or real suck remains to be seen.
2) How much can a game rip off another one before the original company has a right to sue? There seems to be enough original elements here to merit its existence (2-player local multiplayer, different main character, the fact that it's on Wii U at all and all the advantages that brings), and I sincerely hope that it turns out well and Microsoft is powerless to stop it. I root for the underdog

Re: Meme Run is Coming to Troll Your Wii U Very Soon

Battista

Does Sakurai have time to add this as a smash bros for wii u stage? Maybe dlc?

Jk, but honestly i don't know how to feel about this. As kaze_memaryu noted, this COULD be a subversive gem if they try hard enough. Or it could just be a really bad game.

Which brings up another question...just because a game is atrocious, even admittedly so, does that mean it shouldn't have the right to exist on the platform? Maybe I'm just one of those "freedom of expression" guys (I have my limits of course...just look at my username), but are people really going to say, "yeah I know they say mario kart 8 and smash bros are amazing, but I can't support the system because right alongside them is the letter"?

Re: The Letter Version 1.1 Update Has a New Trailer

Battista

Saw the video...I don't get it. What new creatures? Are we talking like a slender sorta thing where there's an actual challenge? And what's with the battery meter on the top right hand screen? Looks like off-tv play I hope but could be a limit for the flashlight

Re: Review: IQ Test (Wii U eShop)

Battista

This game will probably be more notable for the invention/popularization of "miiverse marketing" - I have yet to see a developer get so connected and personal with his audience. That's the main reason people are buying, not so much the content of the game.

Re: Feature: How A Team Of Dedicated Fans Is Fixing Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Battista

Really like both project m and brawl+. Idk if "fixing brawl" is the best choice of terms though because the pmbr goes out of its way to not come off as "brawl sux we can do better" trolls. As a future fan studies scholar I believe there is a place for fan games like this as a complement to the official ones, not a replacement. Because you need a copy of brawl to load project m, this seems like the perfect compromise to me.

Re: Weirdness: These iPhone Mock-Ups Suggest That Mario On Mobile Might Be A Bad Idea

Battista

Nintendo has actually shown that an endless runner with the style of super mario bros. can work - the Mario clock for dsiware. I'm not suggesting that nintendo port their old games onto the iPhone but something like that might just work - as an "advertisement" like nintendo was talking about rather than an actual game. I like what @randomname19 and @nathandelune said too - warioware and brain age would be perfect - again as a supplement, not a replacement.

Re: A Sonic Boom Game is Dashing Towards Wii U and 3DS

Battista

two thoughts

1) Getting a "Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures" vibe because the premises (classic characters getting CGI shows and games based on them) are so similar - I want to see a game based off of a show based off of a game succeed, I'm a sucker for licensed products

2) Whoever says "this is paradise" (i'm assuming knuckles) - is that STEVE BLUM???*

*I don't endorse Cowboy Bebop in its entirety but Blum did an amazing job with Spike and Amon

Re: Review: EDGE (3DS eShop)

Battista

The only thing that bugs me about this game is the constant color-changing and flashing lights. Not to sound offensive but I felt like i was gonna have a seizure. Any way to turn that off?

Re: Review: Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures (Wii U)

Battista

Pleasantly surprised, considering it's not only a game for an older character with a mixed platformer history but also based off a licensed cartoon. I wonder if pac's moveset is being expanded in light of a certain company working on a certain fighting game too
