Today's Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct was packed full of details, and one area that merited plenty of attention was stages. There were some key announcements that'll shape how we get into battle.
One key inclusion is Bigger Stages, which will support 8 Player Smash Mode in particular and, as a result, will be rare in online matches. The following expanded stages were all shown:
Palutena's Temple
Temple
Big Battlefield
Another new stage, which looks like the most sprawling of them all, is The Great Cave Offensive, which is based on the labyrinth from Kirby Super Star. It includes 'Danger Zones' which give damage, and if you hit one when over 100% it's an instant KO.
Another new feature will be Double-Plane Battling, which was shown in the Jungle Hijinx stage; this Donkey Kong arena has fighters using barrels to jump from the background to the foreground and vice-versa. Doing this too quickly causes damage, however.
Overall, the Wii U game will have more stages that the 3DS game, with examples such as Mushroom Kingdom U and Garden of Hope showcased, while stages common across both versions will still be a little different on Wii U.
Finally, a Miiverse Stage was announced. This won't be ready at launch, but will use comments and posts from the social platform to decorate the background as you battle.
The stages look to be shaping up nicely on the Wii U, but let us know what you think in the comments below.

The Great Cave Offensive looks like too much fun!
That Miiverse stage sounds very interesting.
This is why I waited for the Wii U version, the features on Wii U seem much more up my alley! It helps that I only want to play it on a big screen though!
I don't get how there were so many people calling this an inferior version even though we hadn't had any information about it. This game will be huge (in every way posible)
Was hoping the Great Cave Offensive was a new mode instead, lol.
Bigger the better! I cried tears of joy when Luigi's Mansion returned.
The Miiverse stage will be terrible.
"Give me a yeah!", "My dad is for Nentindah, he will ban UU!!!!!1", "Ridley is winnearh1!!!". Can't wait?
I don't care if nobody gets the reference (very likely) but I can't help myself. As soon as the guy said Danger Zone I thought of it.
Here are some examples of what I think we might see in the Miiverse stage: "Please Understand.", "I'm really feeling it!", "My body is ready", "Not my problem.", "Follow and Yeah me?", and etc.
Watched the entire video but I was typing a comment to someone about the DK level and completely missed the dual layer zones. I hope thst shows up in at least a few other levels.
Of course that level editor looked good enough that we may never play on any others once we can share them online. Was that a "later" thing?

How many other things were scheduled to be patched in later, Im sure at least 1 or 2 were also mentioned.
I really hate the reliance on retro stages.
I'm so excited I CAN'T HANDLE MYSELF
Temple's so beautiful!
I jumped for joy when I saw the DKCR stage and its mechanics. I was slightly worried that they wouldn't have used one. I hope they add music from Tropical Freeze, too! The game has some of the best soundtracks you'll ever hear.
On the main topic, those larger stages look like fun! Big Battlefield looks kinda fun to use out of 8 Player Smash, so I hope that's an option.
Temple is back baby
@LtAldoRaine Archer joins the battle! (I wish...)
Wish they wouldn't be lazy by bringing back wii stages or older stages on Brawl. It not that bad though.
Can not believe they got MK8 representation for the game, that's the fourth Wii U game represented (I think).
@LtAldoRaine I totally started singing that song when I first saw it.
And I thought there's something similar in the 3ds mode during the run and jump races, except they KO you no matter what your percent is. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
@LtAldoRaine BRILLIANT!! One of the best shows on TV!!
8 player smash officially sold this game for me. I mean I was going to get this no matter what but I was gonna hold off getting this day1 perhaps wait to December since this and pkmn ORAS comes out the same day. I'd figure smash 3ds can hold me over, but my goodness 8 players @ once. If they confirm 4 on 4 team battle I will cry tears of joy lol
Man, the stages in the WiiU version just look so much better than those of the 3DS version.. I doubt I'll go back to the 3DS game once this releases.
Ugh, I hate dual planes, one of the banes of modern 2D platformers! How do they expect us to see the battle properly at that distance, especially with stuff simultaneously going on in the foreground?!
I'm not a fan of the danger zones, either. It's just overdoing it again on the hazards, one of the more common complaints about Brawl, although at least it's not as bad as random tripping.
A Miiverse stage?! I had that very same idea a few days ago!
Gamexplain where almost spot on with there analysis!

Online sharing of pictures and stages
Online tournaments
