Two things I'd like to say: 1. The incentive for smaller games to buy carts to fit their game is actually lower, as the user experience is less impacted by smaller downloads than larger. Why bother paying to put the full game on a cart when it's only a few GB and can be downloaded in minutes?
2. Anyone who isn't a collector or otherwise interested in gaming and tech won't bat an eyelid at this. Store person: "just so you're aware, this game needs to be downloaded. It's a game key card." Customer: "so I can't resell it?" Store person: "oh no, you can still resell it, just that you need to fully download the game first" Customer: confused look "please just give me my game"
@AngelSlayer sorry, it was a reference to Nintendo crippling their consoles by mandating that developers don't make the innovative aspect mandatory. E.g. the 3d for 3ds
This is for parents and young kids who go to a game store and buy a game expecting there to be a physical cart inside
They don't like the experience of there being a long code their child might need help with, and aren't fussed if the game requires a complete download. It's all about that experience on opening the case and clicking out that physical cart
Destructible terrain was done decades ago, and honestly it doesn't feel like a good fit for donkey Kong.
They should have had destructible terrain for Metroid and tried a donkey Kong country in 3d, strictly DK and one other ape, across tough platforming like the returns series
Can someone please confirm whether game key carts:
act to unlock the digital version, tying it to your account, and additionally requiring you to have the cart inserted to play the game, or
acts to download the entire game (ala bioshock 2 and infinite) but isn't tied to your account and can be loaned out to friends and they can also download and play the game as long as they have the cart inserted?
Just wanting to check as if it's the second we've already crossed that bridge many many times
The (additional 8 second) loading times were never really an issue in themselves, it was jumping out to a loading screen rather than just fading to black that always threw me
Can totally understand why they're treating Mario kart as their flagship (look at sales) and imagine there'll be various extra islands as DLC, but come onnnn
Edit to say: not even Mario rendered suggesting a new platformer... So going to be a while at least
We know it's only on one joycon and that apparently both left and right have mouse ability, so I doubt it's anything to do with locating/centring the cursor
Similarly I doubt it's something in-game due to its location quite low on the controller and that this could otherwise be something menu-related
My thoughts are that it might connect wirelessly to the dock so you don't need to physically connect it to play on the TV - this achieves the criteria of simplifying a process for families and being non-software specific
How long have we be hearing about this now? Such a long marketing campaign for a rerelease... It really seems like they're needing this to be a big success (looking at your braid remaster)
Didn't Nintendo say they were planning to continue supporting the GBA once the DS released? Point being, I doubt we'll get a single title for switch specifically beyond those already announced
Everyone saying Mario Wonder or Metroid Dread, where do those games stand not in context of other games in their own series? I found both to be quite boring, despite the occasional moments of "oh, that's slightly different from previous entries, but worse"

Re: Mulitple Profie Icons Revamped In Latest Switch Firmware Update
I don't mind the DK redesign but what's going on with the triangular Yoshi egg? OUCH
Re: Nintendo Today Video Showcases The New Switch 2 Pro Controller
What's wrong with carting around the Wii U GameCube controller adaptor and plugging in my orange spice controller whenever I want to use a controller?
Re: Random: Speedrunner Beats Zelda: Breath of the Wild At Switch 2 Experience
Okay I think Nintendo are actually being a bit clever with the expansion pass
Not enough value in a single thing to make you get it, but combined with drips and drabs across games, it's quite tempting
Re: 'EA Sports Madden NFL 26' Switch 2 File Size Seemingly Revealed
@Anti-Matter why should it? If you were a publisher and knew you could price games at $80, why would you increase the cost to manufacture the games?
My point is, the cost of the carts would be passed on to the consumer. Would you be willing to pay more for the full game on cart?
Re: 'EA Sports Madden NFL 26' Switch 2 File Size Seemingly Revealed
@Anti-Matter would you pay an extra $10-$20 to have the full game on cart? Because that's what publishers would do
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
The Japanese one tells me "this is an RPG and takes place across a large map"

Re: Switch 2 'Welcome Tour' Estimated File Size Revealed By Nintendo
Remember when Nintendo relied on the success of the Wii and released the Wii U?
They've sure learnt their lesson, if that lesson was to have a better console name rather than launch experience
Re: Nintendo Direct: Mario Kart World: Every Announcement - How Would You Rate It?
As a single player only person, actually having the world populated with secrets excited me.
Finally something different about this Mario kart to 8, gameplay-wise
Re: Video: 20+ Things We Still Don't Know About Switch 2
I doubt mouse mode will be absolutely required for any games
Nintendo wants to make sure most games can be played on the inevitable switch 2 lite
Look at Arms and how that had alternative control options
Re: Zelda: BOTW Switch 2 Edition Won't Include The DLC, Nintendo Confirms
Hahahahaha... Could we have expected any different?

Re: Random: Mouse Work Dev Nitrome Shows Off Its "Frankenstein Joy-Con 2 Alternative"
When will Nintendo announce that games can't rely solely on mouse mode because they don't want to prevent inevitable switch 2 lite compatibility?
Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of Mario Kart World Are In
What's with the ridiculous extra characters over recognisable faces?
Re: Nintendo: Switch 2's Launch Titles Are "Sort Of" Genre- And Franchise-Defining
I don't understand, from the experience of actually driving in the courses, how Mario kart world is any different from 8?
There's no new race gimmick, just padding out of the world with highways
How will the game play differently?
Re: Upgrade Pack Price For Zelda: BOTW And TOTK Has Been Confirmed
@Ralizah I think slightly lower for the outright switch 2 release - they want people to see the switch 2 release and think about upgrading
Edit to say, not lower overall, just less than the switch version plus upgrade individually
Re: Switch 2 Game-Key Cards Aren't Tied To Nintendo Accounts

Re: Don't Worry, Hollow: Knight Silksong Is Still Coming To The Original Switch
Can you imagine if Nintendo had announced "Hollow Knight Silksong will be exclusive to Nintendo switch 1 and Nintendo switch 2, available on day one"
That would have been some great crossover for both companies
Re: Nintendo Won't Reveal Donkey Kong's Switch 2 Dev, But We Might Already Know
Gosh I'm just not excited for this
Destructible terrain was done decades ago, and honestly it doesn't feel like a good fit for donkey Kong.
They should have had destructible terrain for Metroid and tried a donkey Kong country in 3d, strictly DK and one other ape, across tough platforming like the returns series
Re: Did Donkey Kong Bananza Key Art Accidentally Leak A Big Surprise?
I'm confused at the amount of sun we see in the levels given it's supposed to be underground?
Also, Nintendo trying to unify their IP across movies, games from the 80s and now switch 2
Re: Elden Ring's Switch 2 Physical Version Seemingly Tarnished By 'Game-Key Card' Release
@KociolekDoSyta thank you. So sort of like the "DOWNLOAD REQUIRED" information boxes currently on switch games

Re: Yep, Metroid Prime 4's Box Art For Switch 2 Is... Corrupted
Let's say it's the switch 1 game on a switch 2 cart - I wonder if this would work in a switch 1? Or would there be an automatic lockout?

You've said "Digital should be cheaper than digital" at one point in the article
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Direct April 2025 - Every Announcement, Game Reveal & Trailer

Re: Zelda: Breath Of the Wild And Tears Of The Kingdom Will Be Enhanced On Switch 2
BOTW on three consecutive consoles makes me think of twilight princess on GC, Wii, Wii U.
Are there other games that have done the same?

Re: How Do Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 Virtual Game Cards Work? - Game Transfer & Lending Guide
I for one welcome this change - nothing more annoying than trying to play digital games on a secondary console outside of wifi range
Re: Rumour: A Switch 1 Direct Presentation May Take Place This Week
They'll announce silksong
They don't want it to take all the attention away from switch 2 but have promised team cherry it'll be a switch 2 launch title and also on switch 1
My thoughts

Re: Shovel Knight Returns In New 'Yooka-Replaylee' Trailer
My review of the impossible lair was: boring levels that you have to play through twice.
And I've heard impossible lair is the better of the two!
