Re: Yooka-Replaylee Runs At 30fps On Switch 2, Team Investigating Performance Mode

I don't really care about 30 fps (but their approach to releasing and looking to update later is disappointing) but I also don't care at all about this remake of a game that is still available easily on switch 1 and 2 from only a few years ago

Honestly what were they thinking remaking this rather than opting for a sequel? The marketing for this has been so over the top and the development time seems just as long as a new game, who is this even marketed to? Is their selling point "we know the original wasn't great so please trust us this time we've tweaked it slightly rather than developing new content"?

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch Online GameCube Controller - The Return Of The King

I never felt more connected with controlling a video game than using the GameCube controller on Pikmin

The C stick was perfect for flicking, the big a button was great to have centered

Now playing switch 2 I feel like there's no personality to the controller. A bit default, a bit MOR... I'd rather something that is sublime for some games and middling for others honestly. Like video games - wouldn't you rather one fantastic experience than ten average ones?

@EVIL-C I mean you can't be prescriptive about people using a term, 2nd party is well understood despite the "legality" perhaps having different definitions

2nd party to me means any studio that either exclusively works with Nintendo or works on Nintendo IPs. E.g. Rare was a second party developer for Nintendo before they were purchased by Microsoft

I never thought I'd see the day where Nintendo offers mild improvements to existing games like this

Yes, we've had low-effort remakes and ports, but not "here's a minor upgrade aligned with new hardware". It's very much what Microsoft and PlayStation do - trying to stay at that graphical cutting edge rather than focusing on new ideas

(Yes, I'm aware updated graphics and new games aren't mutually exclusive, but Nintendo always erred on the gameplay side)

Re: Switch 2 Game-Key Cards Won't Make It Easy For Physical Collectors In Japan

Two things I'd like to say:
1. The incentive for smaller games to buy carts to fit their game is actually lower, as the user experience is less impacted by smaller downloads than larger. Why bother paying to put the full game on a cart when it's only a few GB and can be downloaded in minutes?

2. Anyone who isn't a collector or otherwise interested in gaming and tech won't bat an eyelid at this.
Store person: "just so you're aware, this game needs to be downloaded. It's a game key card."
Customer: "so I can't resell it?"
Store person: "oh no, you can still resell it, just that you need to fully download the game first"
Customer: confused look "please just give me my game"
