I tried Delta for the first time yesterday on Sonic Advance 3 and wow, it's almost like the VC experience, no feature creep, very polished, and well, it works.
...But! There is one thing that's driving me nuts, while video seems perfectly sync'd to the iPhone, audio seems to slowly desync until it distorts audio for a second and resyncs again! This happens like every minute.
This is a common problem in emulators and the best solution I am aware of is to dynamically adjust the audio's sample rate just a little bit so that audio always stays synchronized as well as the video, which is what RetroArch does.
@nessisonett I would say 99% of what I played on Wii were GC games, so the extra stick experience was a given. I just think Epic Mickey doesn't have moments were tight platforming can mess you up because of an imprecise camera.
Whether they kill Maria with a gun or with a fish, I sure hope this film doesn't try to drown its dramatic moments with shoehorned jokes and references.
I mean, that's why Thor 4 is so beloved among the MCU crowd.
It may be terrible business but Sonic 3 should just be the "for the fans" one and simply let the original story take the reigns.
Wish there was a simple way to watch S1 through Master Quest.
I really like watching it on Netflix because of the multi-lang support I can compare the nostalgic latam dub easily. But they can't seem to bother getting any other season.
@smoreon Having grown up with the GC version, the dreamcast version has always been inferior/ugly to me, so I've never seen the appeal (I mean, I understand the appeal, just that it doesn't apply to me.)
And I've seen the videos analyzing the core differences, but I always stop when they start mentioning the most absurd differences no one, or at least casual players should care about.
It's not like Sega will use it, as you said, they'll probably target a remake, introducing a bunch of new issues in the process.
I just finished checking out this article and couldn't help but feel annoyed.
It feels ridiculous that bloody DKR gets its own spot, while SA1 (the thumbnail clickbait) is lumped with "Dreamcast titles" with no description or anything.
Sonic Adventure is possibly one of the most important Sonic titles out there. This is a Nintendo-centered site, the GC port is realistically an improvement in every sense: better visuals, 60fps, more content.
Why do people still clamour for the halfbaked Dreamcast version? Why is using Sonic as clickbait good enough, but not good enough to get its own description telling readers why it should be on Switch?
I'm not hard to please when it comes to stuff like this, it's pretty much perfect. When I played the originals I always wanted to have just a bit more freedom of movement which this remake achieves.
I can't give it a perfect score because it's no longer "the game I knew", I didn't need the characters to get different outfits or hairstyles, or shoehorned diversity, because it doesn't add anything, it removes things.
The problem is the game isn't targeted at me, it's for the new audiences. Whether it's people who can better appreciate having Dan Maxwell with darker skin, or Ashley with super tight shorts. For me it's just a nuisance.
Just the same, we now have a baseline for a Hotel Dusk remake.
It always takes me by surprise that the Japanese yt channel does a super basic trailer for these releases that only shows gameplay snippets, while here it's always 1 dedicated background music track with fancy in-between messages and sometimes there's even narration.
It sounds like NOA really wants to push for these games. That said, I'm well above letting a fancy trailer influence my decision on games.
But yeah, It's as if Japan sees these releases as nostalgic bonuses and not something to sell systems or subscriptions.
Easy NA, not to mention when you were a teen buying this with a parent would make it awkward if you needed to explain why you wanted the game with the girl and exposed midriff on the cover.
I remember buying Trace Memory when I was a senior, it was all thanks to Brawl and trying to recreate the hype after playing all the Ace Attorney titles available at the time.
NA's zoom allows you to appreciate the art better, which is always nice.
Always blown away by the visuals, it's like an alternate timeline, as I never expected Nintendo to ever touch this series again.
Hope it sells well! It's been a while since I've played R, if that's Tommy in the overview, shame they got rid of his Kurt Cobain look. He looks kinda generic now.
And if that's a new character next to him, that's interesting. The other girl that's usually with Elizabeth was kinda bland so maybe they improved her here.
As someone who didn't enjoy Dual Destinies all the way, I must say Turnabout Reclaimed is the best of the bunch. It's a bit unfortunate it was DLC back in the day. (I imagine many didn't bother getting it.)
I don't care for the fact that they cross-examine another animal, but making good use of Pearls + chilling aquarium theme + defendant being likeable = fun case.
I'm not super into fighting games, I think Sonic the Fighters is boring (and therefore bad) but Sonic Battle is different, it's fun to play around with the various characters, progressing through the story, and collecting skill cards. It's quite cool, one of the most unique Sonic games IMO.
Sequel nowadays wouldn't work because everything Sega releases is lifeless or barebones, and only slightly improved with the obligatory "Plus" addition.
I just imagine the sequel being half the roster Battle had, with the generic lookin' stages from Lost World, Forces, and Frontiers.
I haven't played this yet because it makes no sense to me to waste $60 on a game that looks marginally better than Sonic 4.
I feel Sega again tries to please multiple factions of the fanbase in one game but ultimately ends up blending the wrong things together resulting in mediocrity.
I want to see the next 3D Sonic game drop 2.5d stages/sections. Then Sega will have my attention.
Or a 2D game that uses pixel art without relying on the classic style. But this ship sailed a long time ago.
There's no continuity after 2006 so the way I see it, the timeline ended a long time ago.
But why be boring? If we follow the rules set by Sonic X, Sonic's planet has a different bs time flow, so technically you could fit everything, even the SatAM canon into it.
Despite the childlike design, I've always wanted to try the 2DS, it looks like it might be more comfortable to hold, and the aligned top and bottom screens might offer a different experience, maybe.
I do prefer having 3D though, so I never bothered to 'downgrade' if you will.
OG is better. It's classic and the character's identity. You can't change that.
You change it, and it's no longer Peach, it's a different character.
The argument that she needs a "fierce face" to work falls flat when we've had the character function in action games like Smash Bros. or the Olympic Games countless times.
But I must say, it's the fact that they went and changed it that really irks me, this means, like, even the designers didn't want to make it like that but were told to change it late.
At this point tarot cards are Amy's entire character.
Also the Cyclone, let's talk about the mech gameplay from SA2. The mech gameplay was the best part of SA2, because you were slow and it was basically a third person shooter, this is great because sonic and shooting have always gone hand-in-hand, if SEGA were to make a Sonic game where you could shoot enemies, I think that would sell really well.
I mean, wouldn't you buy it? Of course you would.
Kidding aside, really happy Sega finally allows multiple characters (ahem, in 3D games) even though they are in "Force Ghost" mode, baby steps I suppose.
BRB, gonna play as Omega in Sonic 06 and shoot some of Mephiles' evil spawn.
My thoughts about Another Code had always been that we would never see a high budget game like Another Code R again, because it makes no sense to pump out so much money into what's ultimately a niche genre that doesn't sell.
I was surprised to be wrong, even though these are clearly not the same games. And Nintendo will probably rely on that fact to get more people to find them accessible.
I can't believe retro games still get released with blurry upscale filters.
Even the GG games released on 3DS have a less destructive filter.
Also, that is one heck of a change log, it's definitely the kind of thing they should've just lumped together under "Several behind-the-scene fixes that improve the overall playing experience."
Many people will appreciate the info no doubt, but it further labels this project as buggy and unfinished to the people who typically don't follow this kind of thing.
Let's be real, this is a bunch of old games that have been re-released various times over, it's just not a good look.
Remasters are great but nostalgia or curiosity always win in the end.
If you asked me to pick between the cloudy look of WWHD vs the simpler, more saturated look of the original, I would pick the latter without hesitation.
At least that's what I think he's saying. Maybe the dude just wants to grasp a GC controller, in which case, I totally get it.

Re: Epic Mickey Switch Remake Translates "Motion Controls To Analog Sticks" And Enhances Camera
I played this in 2011, I don't remember any camera issues. But I do remember people complaining about it.
I still wonder if the later Japanese release truly improved it or if it was just a myth.
They definitely did change a lot of stuff though, even censored the 'Mickey struggling' scene in the first big cutscene.

Re: Talking Point: What's Your Personal Favourite Super Mario Game?
Super Mario World is on a whole different level from all the other Mario games.
I struggle to even see it as just a Mario game.
It is the game.
Re: Sega Implies That Releasing Sonic Superstars Next To Super Mario Bros. Wonder Wasn't Smart
Too soon to make another 2D game with 3D visuals, many people were hoping for a Mania successor.
I think that played a part. Isn't the worst aspect of modern 3D Sonic games when the gameplay shifts you into 2.5D?
I know for a fact SMBW did not affect my decision to get Superstars.
Re: Epic Mickey: Rebrushed Is A Switch Remake Of A Wii Favourite
This game was my jam back in 2010, when Sonic games stopped being about 3D platforming this game filled a void.
EM and Another Code R are definitely in my top 10 Wii games.
Re: Random: Ash Ketchum's OG Voice Actor Reflects On "Devastating" Moment She Was Fired
It always bothers me when companies underestimate kids.
And y'know sometimes stuff happens and the actor really has to leave, but idk 90% of the time it's just the company trying to save money or whatever.
Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations Is Speeding Onto Switch Autumn 2024
Black Doom, SEGA sure knows how to get me interested... but then shows stiff Forces-like gameplay and makes me feel uneasy.
If this is truly a retread of Shadow levels then great, they wouldn't miss the chance to use Mephiles again.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Another Code: Recollection?
9-Excellent
I'm not hard to please when it comes to stuff like this, it's pretty much perfect. When I played the originals I always wanted to have just a bit more freedom of movement which this remake achieves.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of The Demo For Another Code: Recollection?
Wait, kinda weird for it to describe Ashley as an orphan.
Because from her point of view she is. But to us (and Jessica, and pretty much every other character in the game) she obviously isn't.

Super Smash Bros.
Bomberman Hero
Ogre Battle
Cruis'n USA - mostly a meme but hey it's there.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's Game Boy Advance Library
Much like Minish Cap this game doesn't need color correction, the colors look really muted compared to the box art shown in the tweet.
I dunno why Nintendo thinks this stuff doesn't need to be tweaked on a per game level.
It's Super Mario World with the GC controller all over again.

Re: Poll: Do You Prefer Zelda: Wind Waker HD's Bloom Lighting Or The "Flat" OG?
Not a fan of the HD version, the effects make it look like a cheap remaster.
But maybe that's just an automatic defense, since getting a Wii U is out of the question, even back then.
Just the GC game with HD res would've been enough.

Re: Charles Martinet Will No Longer Be The Voice Of Mario
Hard to be disappointed after so many years.
What Nintendo should do is just get someone to replicate the voice like Disney did with Wayne Allwine.
If they pull a Sonic and get a complete 180 voice it's gonna suck.
Sega was really dumb with this decision, acting like the character is getting older, and older.
Re: Talking Point: The Games We Got Rid Of - What Were We Thinking?
For me it was YGO The Sacred Cards, I don't really remember what happened but it's not with my GBA collection anymore, maybe it got EBGames'd.
I also traded FFVI Advance for FFIII(DS) some time later when people started saying VI was the best FF, I was like "oh dang."
I had a few used GC games that were faulty, Wario World and Sunshine gave me crashes so I threw them away.
Many years later when the premium GC loader Devolution released and required the disc to verify the game, I realized my mistake.
Re: Random: One Piece's Netflix Star Would "Love" To Play Zelda: Wind Waker
I get it but I don't get it.
Remasters are great but nostalgia or curiosity always win in the end.

At least that's what I think he's saying.

Re: Final Fantasy Developers Reminisce On IV, V, And VI In Anniversary Chat
I would like to see IV in the form of VII's remake, but it wouldn't replace the original SNES feeling much like how the DS version didn't achieve that either.
I guess at that point I'd just like to watch a movie based on the game, just with the pretty cg visuals.
Re: Poll: Final Fantasy IV - Do You Prefer The Original Or The DS Remake?
This is my favorite FF because of the characters, but choosing a best version is quite the challenge.
For me it's between SNES and GBA, with DS being treated as something else entirely.
The GBA version has the benefit of improved visuals despite the lower resolution vs SNES.
There's an exclusive opening that's hard to say it's better than the cgi from the DS version, but it's pretty epic either way.
But the sound is weak compared to SNES.
The pros and cons are constantly clashing!
Re: Sonic Chronicles Sequel Details Revealed By Former BioWare Lead Designer
I wanted this game when it came out but I never got it ...that's the end of that story.

Re: Sonic Fans Treated To New 'Summer' And Manga-Inspired 'Shonen' Merch Lines (Europe)
This looks really cool but wait! I think I can find something to criticize here !
After Sega spent a decade reinventing Sonic to be more child-friendly, getting rid of competent storytelling and the anime voice cast...
It does feel pretty hypocritical to push for "shonen" merch.
How Ian Flynn would say--er write in his Sonic related works: "That's no good!"

@Fighting_Game_Loser Thanks, but it's a bit unclear, is it just games like Mean Bean Machine that originally supported linking that have multiplayer, or can you bring up another screen for single player games like Sonic Chaos?
DX can do both, that's why I'm curious.
Re: Review: Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective - A DS All-Timer Returns In Stunning Form
I played the demo from the Nintendo Channel way back then, and it absolutely worked, I pretty much bought it the next day.
At this point I must've forgotten all the tricks. But I still don't feel like playing through it all again. Great game, though.
Re: Review: Sonic Origins Plus - Not Bad, But Sonic Still Deserves Better
That character select screen, yikes. Reminds me of how much Sonic peaked in the GBA/GC era.
So is multiplayer available in the Game Gear games? Because Sonic DX has that.

Re: Feature: The One Thing Wii Did Much Better Than Switch
I loved the pointer controls, it's one of the best features of the console to me.
Whenever typing on a keyboard came up in a game or channel, that was it, the perfect time to break out your epic pointing skills.
Between GC backwards compatibility, VC, and internet browsing, it's hard not to see the Wii as the best console.
