Despite the childlike design, I've always wanted to try the 2DS, it looks like it might be more comfortable to hold, and the aligned top and bottom screens might offer a different experience, maybe.
I do prefer having 3D though, so I never bothered to 'downgrade' if you will.
OG is better. It's classic and the character's identity. You can't change that.
You change it, and it's no longer Peach, it's a different character.
The argument that she needs a "fierce face" to work falls flat when we've had the character function in action games like Smash Bros. or the Olympic Games countless times.
But I must say, it's the fact that they went and changed it that really irks me, this means, like, even the designers didn't want to make it like that but were told to change it late.
At this point tarot cards are Amy's entire character.
Also the Cyclone, let's talk about the mech gameplay from SA2. The mech gameplay was the best part of SA2, because you were slow and it was basically a third person shooter, this is great because sonic and shooting have always gone hand-in-hand, if SEGA were to make a Sonic game where you could shoot enemies, I think that would sell really well.
I mean, wouldn't you buy it? Of course you would.
Kidding aside, really happy Sega finally allows multiple characters (ahem, in 3D games) even though they are in "Force Ghost" mode, baby steps I suppose.
BRB, gonna play as Omega in Sonic 06 and shoot some of Mephiles' evil spawn.
My thoughts about Another Code had always been that we would never see a high budget game like Another Code R again, because it makes no sense to pump out so much money into what's ultimately a niche genre that doesn't sell.
I was surprised to be wrong, even though these are clearly not the same games. And Nintendo will probably rely on that fact to get more people to find them accessible.
I can't believe retro games still get released with blurry upscale filters.
Even the GG games released on 3DS have a less destructive filter.
Also, that is one heck of a change log, it's definitely the kind of thing they should've just lumped together under "Several behind-the-scene fixes that improve the overall playing experience."
Many people will appreciate the info no doubt, but it further labels this project as buggy and unfinished to the people who typically don't follow this kind of thing.
Let's be real, this is a bunch of old games that have been re-released various times over, it's just not a good look.
Remasters are great but nostalgia or curiosity always win in the end.
If you asked me to pick between the cloudy look of WWHD vs the simpler, more saturated look of the original, I would pick the latter without hesitation.
At least that's what I think he's saying. Maybe the dude just wants to grasp a GC controller, in which case, I totally get it.
I would like to see IV in the form of VII's remake, but it wouldn't replace the original SNES feeling much like how the DS version didn't achieve that either.
I guess at that point I'd just like to watch a movie based on the game, just with the pretty cg visuals.
I wanted this game when it came out but I never got it ...that's the end of that story.
It would have been cool if the sequel had made it to the 3DS under a different genre, back then I was hooked on GBA Fire Emblem, and always felt that gameplay would work with the large cast of Sonic characters.
I was half expecting to see someone animate real banners for Wii, even during the Wii era it was unusual to find a truly original banner design.
I don't blame them, though, there aren't any tools available to speed up the process, it's easier to find an existing banner from a game, take the concept from it and adapt it to yours. But even that is easier said than done.
@Fighting_Game_Loser Thanks, but it's a bit unclear, is it just games like Mean Bean Machine that originally supported linking that have multiplayer, or can you bring up another screen for single player games like Sonic Chaos?
Nintendo's bizarre internal fight where they released this game on 3DS but not Wii U.
Similarly Earthbound Beginnings on Wii U but not 3DS.
I personally don't care about this game, but when I was a kid I always wanted to play all the games featured in Smash Bros Melee. So I guess others who were introduced to this game with Smash4 would want to do the same but will find they have no official way to play it.
Ohh, this one stings, FE is definitely the kind of game you want to own, not rent.
It's too bad Nintendo goes to such lengths to patch things up in many of these old games but they don't offer the bonus items from the Mario Kart DD bonus disc.
There are some weapons you can't get otherwise. Plus, the soundtrack mode will never be at 100%.
I don't really care about the developer as long as the game is fun.
Dimps made some of the best Sonic games imo: the Sonic Advance series, Sonic Rush, (and some really wonderful anime tie-ins) but they also made the 3DS version of Generations, where Sonic plays like a tank, and stages have long empty environments on top of the halved fps.
I hope Sege looked hard at Sonic 4 and realized wtf.
Sonic 4 Ep.1 was like, specifically designed to be mediocre to appease non-Sonic fans who didn't understand the charm the series has.
As NL's review of Ep.1 says: "The fans who clamoured for a "proper" Sonic adventure will be thrilled by Sonic 4: there’s no dialogue, no cutscenes and no sidekicks."
I remember there is a homebrew app on Wii that allows connecting a 3DS to play this game, but it's a bad experience because the controls are imprecise as heck. Just a wiimote worked fine, though.
Still feels like the kind of game you only play a few minutes and move on, perfect for a subscription service.
Bad timing, Dolphin is edging closer to getting GB Player support, if this escalates the project could shutdown in ProjectM fashion.
On the other hand this could be like AM2R again, and they want to release GameCube titles in some form. Though, it's hard to say this without a chuckle.
GBA multiplayer always felt like a feature that was sealed away so that when these games get a re-release decades later the multiplayer feature becomes more accessible. Except, in the Switch's case it's tied behind a subscription and that's epic.
I always wanted to trade skill cards in Sonic Battle. I will keep dreaming because SEGA only understands Genesis or OpenZone.
This really translates to: "we needed to get botw out on the switch late in the game's development, so we ran out of time to develop X thing for the game."
Yeah, the switch is more powerful but didn't it still drop frames and resolution when playing botw?
@MegaVel91 I don't see how that's any different from acknowledging your own OCs, using phrases from the 90s cartoons, and mentioning a character from Boom.
It's cool when they compare plot details to previous games like they did when they namedrop Tikal, but surely a line must be drawn when they have to pull outdated character profile info just for a cheap nod (i.e. Amy's fortune-telling.)
If you like this stuff, I respect your opinion. I'm not trying to ruin it for others, just hearing Sonic saying things like "I knew a time traveller once" which contradicts at least 6 previously established facts is enough for me to disregard the story altogether.
If I say this stuff in Sonic circles everyone would go bonkers, but criticizing Sonic stuff on NL is accepted and encouraged.
Oh, Flynn is writing? Prepare for every character to speak in the form of callbacks and winks to obscure Sonic content that has nothing to do with the games.
"Hey Sonic, look at that cat-shaped giant robot!"
"A cat? So, it's like that girl I saved from Metal Sonic back in the day."
"Who?"
"Tails, you don't remember Sara? She's the president's daughter."
I remember this one was the last GBA game I hunted for at Babbage's and eb games after falling in love with Sacred Stones, but I never found it.
VBA solved that problem, though. So I always consider this game like my personal gateway to emulation. I've never actually finished it, 'cause playing on PC sucks and I later lost interest.
Too bad the Wii U release didn't come with the bonus items from the Mario Kart disc.
@SpaceboyScreams As someone who has played only the SNES (Wii), GBA version, and a bit of the DS remake... I cannot suggest a "best" way to play it since every version introduces improvements... and flaws.
But I don't regret playing the Wii VC version, it's the same crappy translation as SNES but they patched out some flashing effects on top of making the whole game dim. But playing on Wii is nice because The After Years is there too.
Then I would suggest GBA, it has worse quality audio but a better translation, better pixel art and a unique intro animation that's not found anywhere else afaik. It also has some slowdown that SNES doesn't have.
Then finally the DS version, it has 3D visuals so it's a very different experience IMO, but has multiple difficulty settings, an epic cgi intro that looks 'ok' on the DS screen, but it also has probably one of the more accurate translations you can find of the game.
The PSP version is decent but I wouldn't bother with it, it's the same feel as the Ace Attorney Trilogy on 3DS, you get the same visuals... but without the iconic 'pixel' look, it just looks ugly and muddy. Like using the scale2x filter on pixel art. Not my cup of tea.
This was one of the first N64 games I played, having rented it from blockbuster back in the day.
It was the coolest thing to send off random pokemon but I think the magic vanished pretty quickly.
It's definitely a N64 game, that's for sure.
But you know, I can't help feeling that this game wasn't selected for VC during the Wii or Wii U era because of the lack of GB support. Now, in an Iwata-less Nintendo there's no need to care so they bring out this incomplete re-release.
Maybe the feature will come later, like the fog in Ocarina of Time did.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Tops Another 'Greatest Games' List
No Sonic Adventure?
Wow, this list sucks.
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's Game Boy Advance Library
Much like Minish Cap this game doesn't need color correction, the colors look really muted compared to the box art shown in the tweet.
I dunno why Nintendo thinks this stuff doesn't need to be tweaked on a per game level.
It's Super Mario World with the GC controller all over again.
Re: Sonic Frontiers: The Final Horizon DLC Launch Trailer Highlights Tails, Knuckles & Amy

Re: Poll: Do You Prefer Zelda: Wind Waker HD's Bloom Lighting Or The "Flat" OG?
Not a fan of the HD version, the effects make it look like a cheap remaster.
But maybe that's just an automatic defense, since getting a Wii U is out of the question, even back then.
Just the GC game with HD res would've been enough.
Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Nintendo Direct, Then?

Re: Another Code: Recollection Remakes Two Cult Classics On Switch in January 2024

I guess it's time to get a Switch.
Why did they redesign the outfits tho, it looks wack.

Re: Poll: Mario & Sonic Face Off On Switch This October - Whose Corner Are You In?
I was going to go with Sonic, but the US 4Kids theme song reference 'gotta go fast' felt really shoehorned in and made me go with Mario.

Re: Charles Martinet Will No Longer Be The Voice Of Mario
Hard to be disappointed after so many years.
What Nintendo should do is just get someone to replicate the voice like Disney did with Wayne Allwine.
If they pull a Sonic and get a complete 180 voice it's gonna suck.
Sega was really dumb with this decision, acting like the character is getting older, and older.
Re: Talking Point: The Games We Got Rid Of - What Were We Thinking?
For me it was YGO The Sacred Cards, I don't really remember what happened but it's not with my GBA collection anymore, maybe it got EBGames'd.
I also traded FFVI Advance for FFIII(DS) some time later when people started saying VI was the best FF, I was like "oh dang."
I had a few used GC games that were faulty, Wario World and Sunshine gave me crashes so I threw them away.
Many years later when the premium GC loader Devolution released and required the disc to verify the game, I realized my mistake.

Re: Poll: Final Fantasy IV - Do You Prefer The Original Or The DS Remake?
This is my favorite FF because of the characters, but choosing a best version is quite the challenge.
For me it's between SNES and GBA, with DS being treated as something else entirely.
The GBA version has the benefit of improved visuals despite the lower resolution vs SNES.
There's an exclusive opening that's hard to say it's better than the cgi from the DS version, but it's pretty epic either way.
But the sound is weak compared to SNES.
The pros and cons are constantly clashing!

Re: Sonic Fans Treated To New 'Summer' And Manga-Inspired 'Shonen' Merch Lines (Europe)
This looks really cool but wait! I think I can find something to criticize here !
After Sega spent a decade reinventing Sonic to be more child-friendly, getting rid of competent storytelling and the anime voice cast...
It does feel pretty hypocritical to push for "shonen" merch.
How Ian Flynn would say--er write in his Sonic related works: "That's no good!"

DX can do both, that's why I'm curious.
Re: Review: Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective - A DS All-Timer Returns In Stunning Form
I played the demo from the Nintendo Channel way back then, and it absolutely worked, I pretty much bought it the next day.
At this point I must've forgotten all the tricks. But I still don't feel like playing through it all again. Great game, though.
Re: Review: Sonic Origins Plus - Not Bad, But Sonic Still Deserves Better
That character select screen, yikes. Reminds me of how much Sonic peaked in the GBA/GC era.
So is multiplayer available in the Game Gear games? Because Sonic DX has that.

Re: Feature: The One Thing Wii Did Much Better Than Switch
I loved the pointer controls, it's one of the best features of the console to me.
Whenever typing on a keyboard came up in a game or channel, that was it, the perfect time to break out your epic pointing skills.
Between GC backwards compatibility, VC, and internet browsing, it's hard not to see the Wii as the best console.

Re: Sonic Co-Creator Yuji Naka Could Face Over Two Years In Prison
I know the connection is faint but when Naka left Sega in 2006 is when the Sonic series started to fall apart (for me at least.)
In that sense I will always respect this guy for his involvement in my favorite games.
This error is dumb and embarrassing, but like, no one's dead or damaged. No harm no foul.
2 years is a bit excessive, though, since he is a family man, those kids will have a fractured childhood.
Re: My Nintendo Celebrates Super Mario GBA Coming To Switch Online
I was expecting pretty art from Super Mario World... not boxarts and a neon red bg.
Look, 10 minutes in PS and you can fill your phone screen with your preferred games instead.
Nintendo will probably think it stifles innovation but.
