Re: How To Prepare Your 3DS And Wii U For Retirement - Hard Drive, Battery, Backup Tips

AlienX

@progx I'm aware, that's what the quotes implied. I'm talking about Nintendo keeping at least one type of 3DS available to buy --new--, to play carts with even if the eshop goes down permanently.

I wrote it that way 'cause I could go either way if they make the o3DS available to buy, or the 2DS, NEW variation, or a completely new model.

Handheld consoles are very personal devices, I don't want to buy used because of that, it has to be new.

Re: Video: Just What Is The Best Super Mario Game Of All Time?

AlienX

1. SMW
2. SMA2: SMW
3. SMAS+SMW
4. Galaxy 2
5. Galaxy 1
6. Mario 64
7. Sunshine
8. Mario 64 DS
9. SMB3
10. SMB2

These are the Mario games I've played enough to rank this way.
With 64 and Sunshine almost tied, but 64 winning because it has less bs design despite the worse controls.

After writing this comment I guess I've played 3 NSMB titles and somehow forgot about them, so that should give you an idea.

Re: Reggie Talks About Nintendo's Slow Adoption Of Online Play

AlienX

I hated bringing people over, having them wear down my controllers just to play multiplayer.

Free online play in Brawl was one its best features.

My only regret is that I didn't use it enough for other games, I would've loved dueling someone in Yu-Gi-Oh Master of the Cards.

Re: Game-Breaking Bug Reportedly Discovered In Switch Online Version Of Kirby 64

AlienX

@Not_Soos Yeah, one can count the VC updates with one hand.

  • Star Fox 64 (Wii): Updated to improve classic controller's stick sensitivity, and apparently re-introduce slowdown to make the game less difficult.
  • Mario Kart 64 (Wii Korea): It's nearly identical to the US version but has some tiny differences, there's not much info out there, though.
  • F-Zero X (Wii U): The controller's stick sensitivity was adjusted due to complaints.

Then there's the disc version of Kirby 64 that added a widescreen border and Wiimote support.

Re: Zelda: Twilight Princess HD Dev Would "Love" To Bring The Game To Switch

AlienX

@AndyC_MK111 No, you're right. I did not consider the Wii U sold 13m, I suppose a new rehash is in order then.

But I find it quite funny, with this insistence that it's not accessible by replying that you have it on Wii U. So, it is accessible... to Nintendo fans..?

A hard argument for sure, meanwhile someone else will just buy a used Wii for less than $50, put TP on an SD card and call it a day.

Re: Zelda: Twilight Princess HD Dev Would "Love" To Bring The Game To Switch

AlienX

@AndyC_MK111 Uhhh, the point of the comment isn't to assume TP is readily available to play even on your old, tattered 'Cube.

It's the fact that the title has been available consistently for years, everyone and their dog have played edgy Zelda. You can't say the same for F-Zero GX, or FE Path of Radiance.

Heck, as of this comment you can still buy TPHD on a Wii U. That's super accessible. Where can I buy TTYD new? Nowhere that's where.

Re: Memory Pak: Making New Memories With Earthbound In 2022

AlienX

I played Earthbound for the first time around 2014, I enjoyed the visuals and sound but I found the battle system meh and many times it got frustrating. With a guide it became easier but also a chore.

I gotta say though, the edisnooM part of the game is my favorite. If I ever replay it I would prefer it be a dumbed down version so I can just enjoy the fun dialogue.

There is a part late in the game where the music sounds broken and it's just great, you know, the feeling it creates.

Re: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Becomes Top-Grossing Video Game Movie Adaptation Of All Time

AlienX

Really want to see the Shadow stuff, I know many things will be different and that's part of the fun, but I hope they keep certain things like Maria and Shadow's motive. Sonic going to prison? Probably not, seeing how Sonic getting captured and rescued by friends was already done in this movie.

Seeing Jim Carrey play an old version of his character would be interesting but it will probably not make it into the film for obvious reasons.

Re: Poll: Budget Line Box Art - Is It 'Fine', Or A Sin Against All That Is Good And Pure?

AlienX

I think some are quite fine. I got Melee late in the GameCube's life because I would always rent the game--fighting/party games always seemed like a one time thing, but when GC was on the way out it became obvious I needed to get Melee to play it all the way.

The boxart had a "Best Seller" stamp on it, I didn't think much of it but later I found Melee went through some revisions, and I kinda like knowing I have the latest "final" version, although sometimes newer doesn't always imply it's better.

The only other Player's Choice I have is Sonic Mega Collection which luckily looks good with the yellow background.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Wanted The 3DS To Launch At $199, But Was Rebuffed

AlienX

As someone who loves GBA, and definitely wanted a 3DS when it released, but couldn't get it before the price cut... Because honestly, it's ridiculous to go the effort of buying a DSi only for Nintendo to release a year later a pricier console. Of course I wasn't gonna buy another console so soon.

...It was impossible to get this thing back then, I always hated knowing that it could play GBA, and Nintendo gave away games for it and never used the feature again.

It really wasn't a killer feature, but simply knowing there's stuff in your expensive gadget you can't use just because Nintendo doesn't let you is irritating.

Hooray for homebrew, I guess.

Re: Best GameCube Games

AlienX

Something's wrong with this list, it's missing Sonic Heroes.

1. Sonic Adventure DX
2. Sonic Heroes
3. Melee
4. SA2: Battle
5. Shadow the Hedgehog
6. Sonic Riders
7. Wind Waker
8. Mario Sunshine
9. Twilight Princess
10. Fire Emblem 9
11. TTYD

Priorities, man.

Re: Soapbox: Please, Please, Please Release Sonic Advance Trilogy On Nintendo Switch Online

AlienX

Advance 2 is easily my favorite, the design of literally everything is just wonderful, it's definitely one of the most charming of all the Sonic games.

SA3 loosened the controls, but is around as great and straight up epic with the stage designs, Chaos Angel is simply beautiful.

I've played all of them for years, and I wouldn't easily spot a specific game being more difficult or have less platforming, it's all pretty varied, which is why I see them as 1 huge game.

Re: Yuji Naka Was Removed As Balan Wonderworld Director, Filed Lawsuit Against Square Enix

AlienX

I will always be a fan of Yuji Naka for being a great developer and being involved with literally every Sonic game I like. I'm not interested in his personal affairs or work-practice.

But I honestly don't understand the criticism with sabotaging X-treme, there was nothing in the video previews that suggested it was any good.
Man did us all a massive favor.

As for the topic, of course SE did wrong, I don't doubt it for a second.

Re: Gallery: Here's A Look At The Switch Online Version Of Mario Golf, Plus A Comparison Video

AlienX

It's interesting that Switch and Wii U stay in sync, it goes to show that even though the emulation is different (presumably because the developers are different) the practices are still the same.

Or maybe efficient N64 emulation is janky and this will always be the result. But it really seems to be that Nintendo wants the games to feel slightly enhanced, otherwise they'd keep the original resolution.

Re: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Might Be The Biggest Video Game Movie Ever

AlienX

I made an exception just for this movie and went to my local theater for the first time since Sonic 1.

I enjoyed the film very much, I didn't care much for the oh so needed human-only scenes, but I tried to have fun with them anyway.

People are saying Knuckles stole Tails' thunder but who really cares, Tails has always been more of a side character he shouldn't have to lead the film.

Re: Square Enix Officially Announces Kingdom Hearts IV

AlienX

This new setting makes it seem like there won't be traditional Disney worlds, but maybe they could use it to adapt the awful liveaction remakes.

Suddenly I just want to see how heartless or similar enemies could work in a world based on Encanto.

We still don't have a Robin Hood world! This is where a smaller scale spinoff game would shine through on 3DS hardware or such.

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Three More Titles

AlienX

What's interesting about Earthworm Jim 2 is that back in the Wii era and the Wii U era the VC emulators used couldn't play certain sounds in the game. They went the extra mile for this game, probably. Or... they pulled a Pokemon Yellow.

The 3DS VC emu couldn't do the Pikachu cry in Yellow's title screen, they actually didn't fix this in the 3DS release of Pokemon Yellow, instead they hook into the part where the sound is heard and then play the sound from a separate recording, how lame, yet awesome is that?
