I can't speak for Wii U but the 3DS NES Remix is literally just the VC emulator with a savestate collection. The emulator is tuned for r/w the rom and ram and has advanced conditional options to add post-processing for the flashing/pattern reduction or removal.
Stuff like adding animated backgrounds is a bit more involved but if you're experienced with making cheat codes, this is the same practice, you find where in memory the timer, the money, the hp, etc. is stored and that data is obviously present in the savestate. Then you modify an existing emulator to add your hooks. I'm saying even though this takes great effort and dedication it's not insanely difficult as it may seem.
Pokemon would be a surprise, if they enable linking, it would most certainly be sold separately at a premium price and whatever extra bells & whistles. Like FE1.
But who knows? Maybe they might just consider having the base game is enough.
Meanwhile Sonic Riders X is lookin' good, and affects Colors Ultimate sales in no way because fans who enjoyed Riders dgaf about the modern lackluster games.
Oh the Nintendo costumes didn't make it, so I guess that means the Wii U version is the definitive version, just like Mario Maker with the mystery mushroom! No Babymetal for you! No Kirisaki, no Mega Man, no Sonic, you get nothing!
My SNES doesn't work anymore, the rf adapter may be broken, but I tried GameCube composite cables and it still didn't produce a picture nor sound.
It did provide a lot of good memories, I recall that when I was like 12 or something a friend called saying they were moving and couldn't take their games, so I was shown this bag where I just pulled cool games after another: Batman Returns, Super Star Wars VI, Street Fighter II, Star Fox, Yoshi's Island, black cartridge Killer Instinct (did not work so we threw it away) there were some bad ones, like Batman Forever but I still have them anyway. It was like living one of those dreams where you have access to everything.
I just remember picking up the Star Fox cartridge and being like, ew this puppet thing looks creepy, but because of playing Melee I knew it had to be something interesting.
Sonic Unleashed did it, but it's not my cup of tea, I think the guitar shredding/rockin' sound of SA1 is much more suitable for a fast-paced action game.
There's also the case of some tunes sounding worse orchestrated, like the epic Secret of Mana intro.
Button combos are bad, especially the ones that make you feel you should watch out for accidentally triggering. GBA did it best, there was no way to accidentally hit start+select. Flashback to GameGrumps' Super Mario Land ending, or lack thereof. Though they were using a SNES controller.
When was the last time Nintendo relied on such an archaic method? It's gotta be the Kirby collection on Wii, returning to the main menu required a reset so there was "no choice" but to use a combo for in-game reset because Nintendo, and adding a real menu is too much apparently.
This type of complex mod would not be currently possible had BOTW not come to Wii U. Think about that for a sec, the article doesn't even mention this is the Wii U version.
An anime for FE The Sacred Stones would be a dream come true. Whether it adapts the game's story or provides small arcs for popular characters I think it would work to perfection.
@SpringDivorce Oh, it's basically the perfect game for children, there is practically no challenge, it's fairly short, and the story doesn't require any thinking, just "Eggman bad, defeat." With a joke here and there.
I played the first Sonic Adventure when I was ten in the early 2000s, so my personal suggestion would be to play SA1 instead, it's a wonderfully varied game that's just filled to the brim with details and content.
The intro felt very empty to me, I would've liked seeing some famous Japanese performers get the spotlight (Perfume, or Utada maybe) the Kabuki performance was ok but I can just imagine people outside of Japan just seeing it as weird or frightening.
It's just hilarious to me that after all those Mario and Sonic games now it's the one time Mario gets to have any relevance in the actual Olympic games and Nintendo backs out. Feels very Nintendo.
@Clyde_Radcliffe I've always hated that the jump from GC to Wii resulted in 30 fps for practically every Sonic game, even Unleashed despite being the same dumb game on PS2.
The storybook games have had a sort of reintroduction to my collection as it turns out the 60 fps patch works very well on a real Wii, guess Sega/ST felt like trolling or perhaps they simply didn't want any bit of slowdown.
Majora's Mask for sure, the jump from 20 fps to 30 fps is greatly appreciated, the graphics are fine for 3DS, but I especially like the gyro bow and arrow controls.
It made the game easier to play regarding saving your progress, and the only complaint would be the Zora mask, but otherwise it's an excellent remake.
OOT is much of the same but I found the original to still be quite enjoyable that you could skip on this remake. The visuals of the N64 version whether you play on a blurry N64 or sharp as nails Wii in 480p are still incredibly fitting to the themes of the game.
It's unfortunate Nintendo doesn't keep at least the 3DS active, I'm not interested in buying a Switch, all my modern games are on 3DS.
There are still too many games I haven't played yet, but the battery is showing signs of dying and the button stickers are all torn up, it's a bad situation.
I love having a perfect copy of Minish Cap next to A Link Between Worlds, can't have that on Switch.
When I heard Star Light I immediately thought Pokemon, I guess that was me expecting Nintendo to include something-- took me a second to realize it was Sonic, which is admittedly the closest thing to Nintendo in this playlist.
Sonic DX on the GameCube features all the Game Gear Sonic games, in much the same way Animal Crossing has NES games but is miles faster to start and play (once you've unlocked them) than in AC.
Of note: Sonic DX allows two instances of the game to display so two players can play their own run at the same time and "race" each other.
It also featured the games unmodified, unlike the 3DS versions that included edits in Sonic Triple Trouble, Sonic Blast, Labyrinth and possibly others.
It's also the entire collection, so it beats Gems Collection and 3DS VC in that regard.
I don't even consider it bad, more like mediocre, Sonic 06.
In 2005 I was in middle school, on a quest to play every Sonic game I could get my hands on, when the game got announced for everything except Wii, I had no choice but to give up on it. I would go to Compusa to play the Kingdom Valley demo and absolutely loved it: the visuals, the sound, being able to home on the rails, everything was different and more detailed yet felt very much like Sonic.
I kept watching youtube videos over and over and fell even more in love with the game. I have yet to play it, and the excessive hate it gets makes me even more eager to play it, but there's just no way I'll buy a 360 or PS3 just for this lame game, and Xenia can't run on my PC.
I love the gameplay, I think this is the best way to do Sonic in 3D, every game after 06 has been "Run, Boost, 2D section" while 06 feels more dynamic and varied.
A considerably large chunk of the arguments for why it sucks don't affect my view of the game, Silver is cool, Elise's relationship with Sonic isn't romantic, loading screens don't make the game, I think this one has been talked to death but intrusive glitches don't occur if you play the game as intended as I've seen in countless playthrough videos. The glitches make the game even more fun to replay.
My only real complaint is Eggman's terrible redesign, and the human characters looking extremely boring.
I didn't care about the lack of GBA support on the DSi, I just wanted a better DS lite and that's what it was. It should have had a VC for GB and GBC games, the shop was too neglected. But everything else worked great, much better than playing DS on 3DS.
GBA SP is the best upgrade, nothing quite like having a display you can see. I had a GBC back in 2001 so it didn't make much sense to upgrade yet and when the SP came out it was a no-brainer.
This is one of those things that you can "fix" in the original by using a cheat code so it's not like it's some huge deal.
I typically hate it when companies try to be cool by acting self-aware, Sega runs on that garbage, but oddly enough when Nintendo does it once every blue moon it's quite humorous. The reason I hate it is because it validates dumb complaints most of the time.
Stuff like constantly changing to the iron boots in the water temple, it doesn't make the game bad, it's just a minor inconvenience. But the worst is when they feature glitches as if they're some common problem in a game, when in reality the glitch would not appear so easily.
My GBA is still going well, but with my 3DS it has started to get noticeable how it doesn't hold a charge as well as before, I usually get about an hour on power saving and no 3D.
Great to see an effort to maintaining this crucial part of the hardware available.
Dudebro Sonic. I wish someone at Sega would just grab a Sonic game from 1998 to 2009 and listen to how cool Sonic used to sound like, these voice actors are still around, they love voicing the character (and have even done so in recent fan works) like, c'mon.
One of the best reasons to play SatBK nowadays is to appreciate how good the voice acting was at one point in the series. The other of course being the last Sonic game with a serious plot, and a good message.
Sonic Chronicles is one of the cheapest-looking Sonic games I've played, though, I have to give it credit for at least trying something new with the Chao. I like that it loosely connects to the GBA games too, something you wouldn't see nowadays.
I definitely used it on 3DS, the biggest limiting factor to me was not having profile support. The quality was decent for the old 3DS. Though some concert shows did show a lot of distortion, it still got the job done.
However I still figure the og Wii app was the best one, it was fast, looked good enough, and best of all the wiimote pointer made everything 10 times more fun. As I still play on this console I certainly miss having this option.
The Advance games are the best, Rush felt like step-down (using 3d model and removing the multiple playable characters) but is still really good. While I think the Advance series improved in every release, Rush did the opposite, Rush Adventure had a less interesting story, obligatory mini games, while Colors DS removed Blaze and the trick system for a very bland experience.
The Advance trilogy has so many good levels, Chaos Angel, Techno Base, Music Plant, Ocean Base, Hot Crater, Toy Kingdom, the list goes on and on!
Then the Genesis games. There is something about the Genesis games that I've never liked, but I can't quite put it to words.
Generations is terrible, the worst 2D Sonic I've played, 30 fps, clunky controls, poor choice of levels, the boss fights were too watered down from the originals that they pose little challenge. In contrast Sonic 4 at least had manageable controls and the levels didn't feel empty or claustrophobic.
@HammerGalladeBro ZG is one of the few games to advertise wiimote-only on the boxart but does actually support GameCube controllers. Wiimote control is horizontal tho.
The one detail these games can't seem to escape are the pretty obvious typos.
I'm playing Dual Destinies for the first time, I'm only on the 2nd case and already counted some +10 mistakes, some even on "punchline" text that makes it even more awkward to read.
This is without a doubt one of the easiest Sonic games out there.
Might I add this is a terrible way to make the game easier, in the GBA games there was an easy mode too, the only thing it did was reduce the amount of enemies from the stages, to the point where if you played normal mode you'd find entirely new enemy designs on the second run (and thus have it not feel like a waste of time to replay.)
@Orpheus79V Imma try to defend Shadow, aside from fulfilling the requests of a dumb part of the fandom (gun-loving children) I think the game shouldn't discredit Naka, in the end it was just fanservice, and the game had some cool things to offer besides being a sequel to SA2, it's the first time the CG cutscenes look so good and the OST is considerably bigger than previous games. For a 2005 multi-platform game it's very high quality. Gameplay-wise it fixed some notable issues from the previous games, the lightdash no longer conflicted with other moves that could end in an "accident" and the grinding mechanics were made more straightforward. I can't think of any mechanic in the game that required too much skill and precision, unlike in Heroes.
@LaytonPuzzle27 He didn't work on Sonic '06, in fact the only thing he has done (Sonic related) after Sonic 3/NiGHTS is throw money at the projects up until Sonic Riders. And considering those games have really high production value, (just look at the SR op, it's by Production IG no less) I'd say he didn't waste anyone's time.
If they were native GC ports then it would be really cool, there's a small number of Wii games that support only wiimote or GC, in the case of SR Zero Gravity, the Wii U is stuck with an incomplete game because you can only play with motion controls when using a wiimote. This game plays considerably better without motion controls.
But since this is just the adapter you don't have much use for it beyond a few Wii U games (or is it just Smash?) and a few homebrew Wii programs.
I hate this bad rap k-pop gets, the other day I mentioned to a friend how I was a fan of Apink and they quickly brought up the crazy people, and even compared it to bronies. Ugh.
And I'm so casual about it too, I can tell you the names of the members I like but the rest are just a haze.
Great to see Another Code get a mention, there's no other game quite like it, at least not with this kind of budget. It's the perfect game when you need to unwind and just think, well, until the later half of the game.

Re: Random: Who Needs A Switch Pro When There's The Wii U Pro?
If they were native GC ports then it would be really cool, there's a small number of Wii games that support only wiimote or GC, in the case of SR Zero Gravity, the Wii U is stuck with an incomplete game because you can only play with motion controls when using a wiimote. This game plays considerably better without motion controls.
But since this is just the adapter you don't have much use for it beyond a few Wii U games (or is it just Smash?) and a few homebrew Wii programs.
Re: Random: 'Twice For Nintendo Switch' Twitter Trend Leaves News-Hungry Fans Disappointed
Re: Video: 100 Amazing Wii Games In 20 Minutes
Great to see Another Code get a mention, there's no other game quite like it, at least not with this kind of budget. It's the perfect game when you need to unwind and just think, well, until the later half of the game.
