I hate the fact that voice actors are "easily replaceable" but after Bayo, I think it's sometimes for the better, $4K was good enough for this game, and I think she shouldn't have asked for more knowing that... well... she's easily replaceable.
I still find it crazy how this isn't a thing in Japan. Ikue Ohtani who's done Pikachu's voice from the very beginning recently reprised one of her older roles just to advertise the Hirakata theme park.
I can give you my 2 cents on it. Most of Nintendo's previous BC support have always had the same problem, once you enter BC mode, you lose access to almost all the new hardware, and the only way to restore the console to its original state is to reboot (automatic off and on.)
It's possible Nintendo wanted to avoid this inconvenience since it also tends to allow easier modding as well.
The BC of the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS greatly helped in their respective homebrew scenes. (WiiU was just Wii hb out of the box, it didn't actually benefit WiiU hb but surely, this was still a negative for Nintendo.)
Surprised there wasn't a Mario balloon before but Pokemon kinda fits the role better since it has a gazillion movies, episodes and toys. I think it's been present on the parade more than Sonic.
Gotta hand it to Sakurai for not going the easy route and just turn the game into crossover madness, selling each character for $1.99 or $4.99 for a stage+music!
Tho' I wouldn't object to Sonic Riders content. You know Jet's the legendary wind master, right?
Not a big NES fan, my first experience was the LoZ GBA version, and the game simply didn't click with me.
But I found some appreciation for the NES after buying SMB3 on the Wii VC.
The dark image sucks, but the amount of advantages you got on Wii were pretty worth the 5 dollars. And I guess what's interesting about the Wii version is that you can't really replicate it with emulators — the very specific way some visual glitches are fixed here, the smoothed out screen flashes, stuff like that.
I like that the western one tells you it's 32 megs, that's 4 megabytes! One megabyte more than EarthBound!
Curiously, the games that actually had an unusual size like Tales of Phantasia or Star Ocean don't tell you at all... because it's useless information!
@Baker1000 It's a stylized representation, pretty silly if you ask me.
The credits text was built into the executable, so it always has to appear in RAM, this is quite insignificant compared to say Wii's Tales of Graces, which does the same but for hundreds of item names, item descriptions, attack names, tutorials, etc.
Back in 2014, I tried WiiMednafen with the SpyKids 3D glasses for a solid 5 minutes before never using it again.
Just think of all the money/resources Nintendo could have used to bring out a rare GBA title, or a GC game that required special attention... but instead they use it for this garbage.
I checked out some of the banter between characters and it seemed awful to me.
Not because it's cheesy but because the voice acting has no connection to the characters and feels pretty forced and soulless.
No excuse for being lazy, but honestly who cares if SpongeBob doesn't talk? People will forget about this game a year after it releases and then Sega will make Sonic Racing Revolution Remix, and people will still buy it.
Might as well take the chance to say Shadow Generations should've been a solo thing and Sega had terrible foresight.
This is the problem I have with Sega, they have the means to make some great things and they seem to be aware of it, but once they try to execute said greatness it always ends up short of the expectations.
Cool, I was always of the mind that if Brawl needed 3rd party characters Sonic & Pac-Man were the best choices for their strong Nintendo connection.
I also kinda had a glimmer of hope that you could play Pac-Man World 2 with Sonic. A more SA1-type of Sonic. A much needed break from boost and 2D gameplay.
But alas, they did not go there and instead we get Green Hill again!
But perhaps the most interesting aspect is that it does require patching games.
Wind Waker seems to crash if you open the dungeon map. During the ancient 'disc backup loader' days this was a common issue because the homebrew program fully replaced the code that patches WW.
Eventually, they caught on, and nowadays all the patches are documented on Wiibrew's MIOS page, worth a read.
This is different from nintendont, where it does a ridiculous amount of patching to a single game just so it behaves in Wii mode.
Wii BC only does a few patches for no more than 5 games.
I was there, I was there on the day Nintendo committed the worst sin upon the gaming world, they released SMW on Wii with direct button mapping... for the GameCube controller.
The nightmares are still etched to my WaveBird. People sure have it easy now, well kinda.
During the Wii days, devs weren't allowed to increase the size of savefiles beyond the starting size, so games like Brawl had to create a 16 MB save for saving replays, stages, and screenshots to the system, space that 99% of players never used.
Many SNES VC contain an unused copy of the game's ROM completely uncompressed.
None of the GB/GBC/GBA/NES titles on 3DS VC use compression for the ROM. And the ones for NES and GB all come with the GBA bios.
A remake would alienate the fans who like Sonic games to be simple boost-to-win, and can't handle the games being fully 3D with complex platforming!
And it wouldn't interest the older fans for the same reason Nintendo doesn't re-release Melee. It will never be as good as the original, it will always lack something.
99% of players who just want a remaster with more QoL features have already played it on PC thanks to mods.
@cyberrb25 It is pretty interesting, the Wii's GPU apparently had slight differences that (coincidentally) causes Wind Waker to crash when you open up the map in a dungeon.
Nintendo fixed the crash by patching the game each time the disc is loaded into the console, replacing the faulty GX function with a Wii-compatible one, I guess.
"Gotta go faster" is actually one of the lyrics in the 4Kids banger of a theme song that is attributed to Sonic X and describes loosely what the show is about.
It will never happen (esp. because of Sonic3 music) but... Sonic Mega Collection.
A lot of people don't know this but the "Plus" version was actually a cheap downgrade in terms of presentation, it would be great for people to have access to the true version and experience absolute Sonic bliss.
It would be such a flex from Sega to actually re-release a past collection.
My absolute favorite, and honestly the only one worth getting into is the GameCube version of Sonic Riders.
I have a soft spot for the Winter Games on Wii, since it lets you revisit Radical Highway or Seaside Hill with the likes of Silver, it is effectively a racing game.
Perhaps a testament to how good the GameCube era was, none of these games came to mind when I thought about potential re-releases.
SA2B is sort of a bad choice, given the opportunity to make any game available, why go with a title that's readily available everywhere else but with no widescreen or GBA linking.
By the description it even sounds like the person who wrote it isn't even into the game!
This game was my jam back in 2005, I played the heck out of it on my AGS-101, it checked off all the things on my list of what made a game deserve a 10/10, right down to "you can unlock the cool NPC characters if you play hard enough" that's always fun.
I will say this though, FE8 has naturally really nice saturated colors, unlike say, Super Mario Advance 2's exaggerated brightened image.
Putting this game thru NSO's color correction makes everything look awfully dull. Even on the 3DS VC it looks better and that's saying something.
I actually streetpassed a few loyal 3DS players early this year, that's something. It was at a game event so I guess that's why.
Why can't the Switch do something as simple as this?? It's something to think about — the 3DS with its countless inferiorities can do so many things the Switch simply can't.
A bunch of those games have GBA linking, I wonder if that will be addressed. Fire Emblem just gets you some artwork, but it would be nice if they unlock those features from the start.
I'm one of those people that don't like WWHD's white-ish visuals. So having access to the original look in HD is great. It's just a shame that you can't buy the games.

I played Kid Icarus GB for the first time on the 3DS VC, I got it as a Club Nintendo reward.
I didn't know what to expect but it was surprisingly enjoyable and I actually beat it, the final boss music is awesome.

@sportymariosonicmixx That's a great question.

Unnecessary? Sure. Inefficient? Nah.
Re: Poll: How Many New Games Do You Buy In A Year?
The last big game I bought was Nier Automata. And only 'cause the game had been on my mind since its 2017 release.
Honestly, I don't see the point of spending so much money on games you lose interest in pretty quickly.
There are far too many good games out there that I'd much rather play over the new stuff.
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds
I've sort of moved on from Sonic games, but I'm happy it's enjoying some success.
It's still incredibly odd they went with 2 deadly six characters when there are like a gazillion better choices.
Racing games always lose their magic rather quickly imo, but I still hold Riders on the GameCube in high regard.
Re: Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 Prices Are Live, And It's Sticker Shock Time

Sounds to me like the Wii versions will suffice, oh yes.

Re: Random: The Pokémon Company Is Putting This Pronunciation Debate To Bed
First heard the name in middle school, so it was something like:
Rai-KWAH-zah
"Rai" as in Raichu, not Ray, basically.
Re: More Switch Games Reportedly Receive Switch 2 Compatibility Fixes
@countzero Wii BC is surprisingly complex.
But perhaps the most interesting aspect is that it does require patching games.
Wind Waker seems to crash if you open the dungeon map. During the ancient 'disc backup loader' days this was a common issue because the homebrew program fully replaced the code that patches WW.

Re: PSA: Pokémon YouTube Channel Uploads The First Movie For A "Limited-Time"
Heck yeah, it has multi dub support.
Oddly, the English track sounds kinda low compared to the LATAM one.
But this is great, 1-3 are probably the best ones.
Re: Talking Point: With Bigger GameCube File Sizes, Should Nintendo Let Us Download Individual NSO Games?
Nintendo are the kings of wasting storage space.

Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Officially Reveals Nickelodeon Collaboration
It's never a good sign when they flood the roster with random 3rd party characters.
That aside who the tf wants to play as the lame Prime re-designs? What a waste.
It's funny how I always thought Mario Kart's future would be crossovers, but I got it the other way around.
Re: Opinion: I Never Felt True Nostalgia Until I Played GameCube On Switch 2
It's curious how people are willing to let go of things they enjoy and then feel what seems to be regret.
To my surprise, my 2005 GC is still in top shape. Such a good buy.
GC nso is good, but I look at my expensive discs and immediately think that none of it will ever make it to the service.
Re: PSA: Here's How To View The Iconic GameCube Startup Screen On Switch 2
The squeaky one is just annoying, I always set the kabuki sound on swiss and nintendont for maximum effect.
Re: Adorable 'Little Nemo' Metroidvania Wakes Up On Switch Next Year
Oh no, Flip what have they done to you?? I'd hate to see what the princess looks like... assuming she even made the cut.
This artstyle feels very 2010s Cartoon Network. (not a positive imo)
I can't stand metroidvanias but watched Little Nemo on VHS all the time as a kid, so I'm inclined to at least check out the demo.
Re: Feature: Farewell, Nintendo Switch - It's Finally Time To Bid Our Old Friend 'Adieu'
It was probably for the best we never got that fabled Hotel Dusk remake.
Another Code Recollection screwed up too many things.
Re: Gallery: Here's Another Look At GameCube Games On Switch 2
@Koda1000 WW, TP, and Metroid Prime did not support widescreen on GameCube.
Though the latter two do on the Wii ports.
Really, without exaggerating there's probably only about 5 titles that support widescreen on GameCube.
Re: SEGA Gives A Behind-The-Scenes Look At Its New London Office
I imagine myself in that boardroom.
No more random product collaborations!
No more dumb cartoons that have nothing to do with the series!
Loosen up the mandates on IDW.
Bring back collab deals with Nintendo, revive the Mario & Sonic series any way possible!
Get the 4Kids cast back!
Upgrade Iizuka's title in the company so he no longer has any input on game decisions so Sonic Adventure 3 can finally be developed!
I would take Sega to a more innocent time, I would take them to the mid 2000s.
Re: Nintendo Shares More Artwork Of Diddy Kong's Brand New Design

Re: Star Wars: Grand Collection For Switch Now Available, Nine "Iconic" Games In One

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
Few cases where the western one looks more interesting. The dragon helps a ton, and the brighter colors are more pleasing imo.

It is still an incredibly valuable thing to have available after years of nothing.
Re: Video: Nintendo Today Gives Us Another Look At F-Zero GX For Switch Online
@sanderev Only the games that supported it originally.
...which sucks because Sunshine, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess have advanced widescreen hacks that work on real hardware.
Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations "Coming Soon" To Switch 2, Here's A First Look
