Nintendo Expands Switch Online's Game Boy Advance Library

Oooh this looks like fun. Should be really fun to play when my SO goes on break for the semester.

Wish they were putting up Nightmare in Dream Land with it, kind of no reason to drag it out since Adventure's already on there but be nice to have it because it's a lot better than vanilla Adventure, but either way, should be fun getting to revisit this one.

Great game. I played it on my friend's GBA back in the day and remember it being fun but confusing since I didn't realize it was open-world haha.

I wish they weren't drip-feeding us with the releases but I'm excited to play this one.

With the Switch, playing this with 4 players will be easier than ever before.

Amazing Mirror tends to be a bit hit-or-miss with people, but I think it's generally agreed upon that (as funny as the AI can be) this game is at its best when you're playing with friends and can all split up to explore the world and help each other out. I'm glad way more people can experience that now.

Not my favorite Kirby game by any stretch but online does (at least in theory) make this a more worthwhile version instead of trying to find 3 friends who also have this same game and also the link cable.

Glad its here, its a great choice for online play, but at the same time the slow pace of these releases (and GB/GBC) is really worrying to me

I can’t remember if I actually beat this game back in the day. So many times in this game I had no idea where to go.

@ObamaCare Amazing Mirror's actually really radically different from other Kirby games because it's a pretty freeform Metroidvania.

Almost three decades growing up or otherwise dealing with retro games, and I was this morning years old when I learned that there's a Kirby metroidvania.

@MR_Zurkon not you alone. I often opt for original games for a chronological binge's sake but, just like the lack of a visible movement grid chickened me off from OG Fire Emblem to its portable Gen 7 remake, the prospect of playing a metroidvania without a readily available automap makes me squeamish to go for the original Metroid even after getting it on 3DS way back when. And since GBA games became a thing on Switch in their own right, I've been reluctant to emulate Zero Mission [elsewhere], too - even if I don't recall it explicitly announced yet.

Does multiplayer work on this? EDIT: Nevermind it does!

This is the best Kirby game EVER.

Its genius becomes apparent only when trying to go for 100% and explore every area fully.

If the term Metroidvania is too technical for you, Amazing Mirror is like if you mix The Great Cave Offensive from Kirby Super Star with The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords

I’ve waited so long to play this multiplayer-focused game the way it was intended, and now I finally can. Thank you, Nintendo!

Oh man, if they enabled local multi-player for it so you could play four player on a single Switch...

@HammerGalladeBro I like that term better, thank you. Metroidvania puts me off. I never know where to go and get lost and frustrated in those games. Just not good at open world games like that but I do love Cave Offensive, so that is good to know. Love Love Kirby anyway and will look forward to playing. Never played this one.

Man I love this game. Kirby weirdly works well as a Metroidvania.

None of my friends owned Amazing Mirror growing up, so I only ever got to play it solo. I'm very excited to finally play cooperatively!

@Altaria_97 @Mana_knight please guys, don’t confuse Metroidvania level design with the travesty of open worlds. They are completely different things.

One follows a well crafted recipe… the other one just throws whatever ingredients they can find and expect to cook whatever stew comes up.

To anyone that didn’t know where to go. I also didn’t where to go in the game and I just fought the rock version of whispy woods over and over.

I repeat: every single 1st party GBA game should have been on that service from day one

Never enough Kirby. This was on my list to play and I was tempted to do the E word as I've not been able to find fit physical for a reasonable price, so it arrives on a perfect timing.

They've been on fire with the cool and unexpected games! Stadium, excitebike, Kirby amazing mirror...I love it!!

@Lizuka i don't see why they wouldn't add "Nightmare in Dream Land". They added all 4 Super Mario Advance games on the GBA NSO despite the original versions already been added to the NES & SNES NSO, so they can definitely do the same for that Kirby game too.

One of my favorite Kirby games. Also one of my favorite GBA games. I've finished it multiple times but always alone. My niece discovered it on my 3DS couple years back and always wanted to play it when we saw each other. Now we can play it together.

I'm actually a bit pessimistic that we'd be getting the original GBA version and not the super rare DSi version. The GBA version doesn't have that much content...

How many people do you need for co-op?

While I am a huge Kirby fan, I didn't care for this when I played it years ago. I've been waiting for the NSO release, though. I think rewind and save states will allow me to finish it lol

WTF? Still no Golden Sun

I bought and played this on the Wii U VC right before the eShops died. Fun game, but it's very easy to get lost. I had to use a guide for the last couple of mirror shards. I was aimlessly wandering around at more than one point.

Man, they are really, really, REALLY drip-feeding us the GBA/GB games. It feels like the missing N64 games are an afterthought, let alone anything new-ish.

@Not_Soos I played it solo earlier this year (not like I had a choice since it was on Wii U lol) and did enjoy the game overall. It shares some similarities with The Great Cave Offensive in Kirby Superstar if you've played that title. The best way to describe it is like Metroid Kirby in terms of being free range, though there isn't much in the way of upgrades outside of health enhancements. All Kirby power ups are available right off the bat as you come across enemies to swallow.

My biggest complaint was I didn't find the map system to be...great, but opinions on that vary across the web. Even if you don't finish the game, it's still fun to mess with a lot of the power-ups IMO. In terms of GBA Kirby games, I slightly prefer Nightmare In Dream Land.

@Fizza Bro, literally. My sister and I tried to play the game with local wireless a while ago using [TOTALLY LEGAL GAME BOY ADVANCE WITH LINK CABLE] but we couldn't, so we had to settle for the Switch version. We are hyped.

also, for those struggling with 100%, check the map. if the room isn't flashing (i.e., a solid color) then there's still a treasure/lever/big switch in there. also, you can move the big stone blocks by using a move that shakes the screen (e.g., stone, hammer's default attack, sword's final sword [up+b])

Yay! One of my favourite GBA games. I didn't like Kirby and the Amazing Mirror to start with but once I knew how to navigate the map it was much more enjoyable.

Lol I'm laughing at these comments of not knowing where to go at times, and that was my problem with this game. I may try to give it a go again, maybe I was too distracted back then to focus on it.

Release more and more quickly please. And yes in agreement to those asking about Zero Mission. Although part of me thinks that will be held back to help promote some form of new Metroid or Prime related news in the future

@EarthboundBenjy fair enough, but I think the n64 selection is huge, they've got some of the best gba games on here, and they've been giving us new amazing games every two weeks or less! I've really not played much else since the beginning of summer!

@MeloMan I remember actually using that map a lot, when it starts to make sense it'll start to be easier. But It's still one giant Maze filled with secret entrance and exits!

MMmm this was a bit more boring that i expected.. should i persevere? really hope on some non kirby more original gba titles next,.... that library is not yet balanced...

One game closer to Zero Mission

Much like Minish Cap this game doesn't need color correction, the colors look really muted compared to the box art shown in the tweet.

I dunno why Nintendo thinks this stuff doesn't need to be tweaked on a per game level.

It's Super Mario World with the GC controller all over again.

Why aren't they showing that the game has like 20 different Kirby colors? That's one of the best features, and something sorely lacking in every Kirby since. Luckily, they had it in Dream Buffet though.
