I grew up in the heyday of Rugrats but hated them with a passion. Yet this game looks strangely promising.
If I buy it, it will be in spite of the license, rather than because of it 😄
Not much for me personally, but some decent surprises. I think the presentation was let down by the fact that so many already announced games were shown off, which gave off strong "yeah, we know" vibes. Still some good stuff in there for those interested.
Pico Park 2 was the only announcement that I'm really excited about. The original is a fantastic multiplayer game and one of the only ones on Switch to allow up to 8 players local.
Oh yeah, and that Wobble game looks like it could be fun with my kids as well.
I ended up buying the game while it was on sale. I finished it this morning in about 4 hours (with the "Very Bad Ending").
I enjoyed it quite a bit! Really wish I could find more games like this. It has that 2D pixel art I love in games like Chrono Trigger, but without having turn-based combat and a ton of text, both of which I hate. The focus on exploration & puzzle solving is a lot more up my alley.
If it will be playable, that makes me think a Nintendo Direct might take place before then.
They haven't shown that much of the game, and having info be leaked by demo players before Nintendo has shown off much officially doesn't seem like their MO.
Playing this in handheld on the Switch, in the dark, with headphones on, and trying not to throw my Switch across the room when I get scared... Now that's a good time.
Half that trailer had me going, "YES I'm gonna love this!" and half had me going "Hmmm, guess this isn't for me." I'm super split. I'll just have to wait for reviews.
I think ultimately it will boil down to how challenging the puzzles get. But it looks like the game will likely be a "cozy" experience, which is not for me. Making smoothies and customizing my wardrobe is not what I play games for.
I play single player games on my Switch Lite, so it sounds like the control issues won't be a problem for me, since touch controls are the best way to play this game anyway.
It's always amused me how this developer made a name for itself with one of the most accessible games ever (World of Goo) and then went on to making the most niche games that are not easily accessible (such as Human Resource Machine).
I still regularly see 4 year olds playing WoG at my local library.
If TotK added the ability to share Ultrahand build designs between players, I believe it would boost sales tremendously. Look at the popularity of Minecraft.
If just the smallest interactive online component were added to the building aspect of TotK, it would sell like crazy and would also keep online streamer content super high.
Nintendo is leaving money on the table. I honestly can't help but wonder if they'll add in some online component like this for a Switch 2 TotK Deluxe port.
I own the original Braid on Steam. Didn't enjoy it enough to play more than an hour or so.
On the other hand, his game The Witness is genius and possibly my favorite puzzle game ever. I bought it on PS4 and Steam Deck and have completed it multiple times.
For anyone whose subscription doesn't expire for a long time yet, you can still use this promo. You'll just get credited for whatever time you have left when purchasing the next year. In other words, you'll start your year over from today but with the price reduced to reflect the time you already paid for.
Hope that's helpful to someone 🙂
Literally just 2 days ago I was watching video of these games and wishing they'd get ported to Switch. I've never played them, but what I've heard about them makes me really intrigued.
@Jayvir Did you ever play the DS Chibi Robo game that was exclusive to Japan? I think the title roughly translates to "Welcome Home Chibi Robo." I've heard that one is really good and actually rivals the original Gamecube game, but I've never played it.
I love the Switch Lite so much and feel like it's severely underappreciated. Wish it had come with an OLED screen so people might have noticed it more. The form factor and D-pads are a big improvement, and I always prefer to play my Lite in handheld vs my regular Switch in handheld. Way more portable and feels better to hold.
Starfy 3 is the only game I ever imported. I was super excited after reading fan reviews of what a great game it is.
Then I played it and discovered it to be one of the most boring games ever. It's so easy and simplistic to be mind numbing 😒
To be fair, I never finished it. But I just couldn't force myself to keep going. And this is from someone who really enjoys the first Kirby's Dreamland.
Not only is "Games with Demos" one of the key search filters available, but there is also a "games with demos" listing on the "Featured" page. They have definitely done a good job with that one, so I'm not sure what this article is talking about.
Now Steam on the other hand really needs to get their act together with demos. When I have a ton of games on my wishlist, I should easily be able to filter out which ones have demos available, but there isn't a way to do that, even though people have asked for that function for years. On top of that, some Steam games have separate listings for the game and the demo, while for others it's unified. And some games have the demo button listed at the top of the game page, while others you have to scroll further down. It's really a mess.
@link3710 Steam Deck isn't perfect but yes, it has improved drastically in the last couple years. I can play games like Viewtiful Joe in hi-res 60fps without waiting and dreaming that maybe one day it will get ported to Switch. I can play games like Goldeneye and it runs flawlessly. I can play games like Zero Mission without having to wait for Nintendo to eventually add it to an overpriced subscription.
I can also play games like Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3 and they run perfectly and look amazing.
To be clear, I prefer playing Switch because I don't have to fiddle with optimization settings like I do on the Steam Deck, but whenever there's a game I can't play on Switch or that doesn't run well on Switch or is stupidly expensive on Switch, then my Steam Deck comes in very handy.
@link3710 The thing is, we now live in a world where Steam Deck exists. So the portability of those 360, PS3, PS4, GCN, Wii, etc games is no longer so novel and it's unlikely that Switch 2 will run them better than the Steam Deck does.
THERE IS NO WAY it can match the sales of the Switch! The Switch had 2 "cheat codes" to have a ridiculously large and desirable game library:
1. An entire first party generation (Wii U) had a significant audience for the first time (Mario Kart 8, Pikmin 3, NSMBU, Smash 4/Ultimate, Tropical Freeze, Mario 3D World, etc.) All these ports allowed Nintendo to release double the number of games they typically could have for a single console lifespan.
2. A bunch of older 3rd party games could be ported for cheap AND sell tremendously well due to the novelty of being portable for the first time ever. Games like Dark Souls, Witcher 3, Dragon's Dogma, Portal, Overwatch, Metal Gear Solid, Cuphead, Ori, Alien Isolation, Bayonetta, old Resident Evil games, etc).
Since those 2 wells have largely run dry, the Switch 2 will depend much more on new games without the novel boost of having a bunch of games able to be ported with minimal cost.
Animal Well wins for me so far, but I haven't played Balatro or Lost Crown yet and either one of those could grab me.
Animal Well was spectacular for the 1st part and mostly amazing for the 2nd part (eggs). But it got way too obscure for me once it reached the 3rd part (rabbits).
I'll get Beyond Good and Evil so I can relive the experience with my kids. But probably going to buy it on PS4 if it's got 60fps vs the Switch 30 FPS. I'm not a stickler for FPS, but it does make a difference with such a cinematic game.
I have beaten Luigi's Mansion 1 & 3 and found them pretty boring. I've heard this one is notably different, but is it so different that I might actually enjoy it?
@sdelfin I liked the Wii pointer controls but not the motion controls. But the biggest fail to me was the disconnected planets compared to having one big world to traverse. Even setting that aside, I didn't find the level design of most areas to be really interesting too explore. Pirate Homeworld was pretty cool and periodically there were individual "rooms" I liked within other planets but most of it felt really uninspired.
I really don't like either one very much.
But likewise, I really dislike Corruption as a game, though I love Prime and Echoes. Echoes is still one of my favorite games of all time and Corruption was THE reason I bought a Wii, but what a letdown of a game. I sure hope Prime 4 doesn't feel like Prime 3. Metroid is one of my all time favorite series, but I rank Prime 3 right near the bottom.
I bought this on Gamecube back when it came out. Went back to the dorm and played it all night until I beat it in the morning. Only game I've ever done that with. Such great memories.

That's an even more generic update than "stability" 😆

Re: Review: Pizza Tower (Switch) - An Ingenious Platformer That Beats Wario At His Own Game
I'm a big fan of Wario Land, but I HATED the demo of this game. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
EDIT: OK so apparently it was actually AntonBlast that I didn't like. This one just looks so similar 🤦
Re: Mini Review: Feudal Alloy (Switch) - A Hearty, Hand-Drawn Metroidvania
This game was quite underwhelming to me. The art style was the best thing about it, but the game was a 7 at best, IMO. Probably more like a 6.

I am personally just excited for Pico Park 2!

I hate that Japanese cover so much. To my artistic sensibilities, the layout is a train wreck.

Re: Mini Review: Rain World (Switch) - A Gorgeous Yet Cruel Survival Platformer
I love the idea of this game, but it was so un-enjoyable for me. I've restarted 4 or 5 times but always hit a point where I don't want to continue.
I know quite a few people consider it one of the greatest games ever made, and it makes me really wish the experience would click for me.
Re: Mini Review: Viviette (Switch) - A Horrifying Hidden Gem
Not my typical sort of game, but I'm really interested in this. And it's on sale for only $5.

I've been feeling nostalgic for 2D Zelda but also not interested in replaying those games yet again, so I'm hoping Castaway will scratch the itch.

@Diogmites FYI, the game has a launch sale of 20% off, but it's only active for another 15 hours. This brings the price down from $20 to $16.
