I just bought the N64 Switch controller from store in NYC. Thought it would be perfect for Mario 64. Turns out that on-screen menu button mapping does not change to original when playing the “3D All-Stars” version (does so when playing NSO + Expansion Pak).

Unpleasant surprise when I paid $50 and spent 3+ hours round trip travel, plus another $14 in bus fare, just to acquire.

I don’t know who would want to watch so much footage without ruining any surprises the game has to offer.

Super Mario 64 (via “3D All-Stars” cartridge).

Having trouble getting 8th and last red coin in first level.

Prefer the white (or latest Zelda which came out well after I got my white).

Was never of a fan of Mario speaking (so much that even refuse to see the movie).

Admittedly has much to do with growing up and too used to the series pre-N64.

Still not like tossing baseball cards from the 1950s.

One 40-year-old game (cartridge) still readily available on eBay is Donkey Kong for ColecoVision. Noticed out of random curiosity a few days ago, as that being my first ever game / system (sold bundled together) had sparked my interest.

@Darthmoogle Amazon has very strict standards for hiring: one must have a pulse.

I have nothing but first party Nintendo titles on cartridge. No empty cases, though a few I are still sealed.

Can probably tell by shaking the case.

Super Mario 64 not in the top 20? IMO newer games get extra credit due to younger crowd voting, as well as obviously being more recently on one’s mind (regardless of person’s age).

Baseball Stars was far and away my addiction on NES. While I loved the game, it was also my first ever self-bought.

Sega Master System was my second (ColecoVision was first). Personally had a good bit of enjoyable games including Ghostbusters, Rambo, Pro Wrestling, F-16 Fighting Falcon (Sega Card game). Also was able to borrow many others from friends including Phantasy Star, Great Baseball, Fantasy Zone, Space Harrier, Alex Kidd.

Simpler times, and in many ways, much more enjoyable even considering the abilities of today’s consoles.

Mostly garbage titles. I don’t usually need to have something just to have it. All the while, can’t complain much about the collection offered via Switch Online / Expansion Pak.

I don’t know. Nintendo has a cult following, while PlayStation a little less so.

Final Fantasy does a good bit, but the more causal gamer is going to opt for Nintendo (and subsequently Zelda).

Playing mostly Xbox (incentivized by Microsoft rewards).

However on Switch playing Super Mario 3 NES. Actually got stuck on a section there and moved (admitted unfairly IMO) to Super Mario 64. Looks like much fun. Just have to master the controls.

Gameplay hasn’t been good IMO since 2K11. At least isn’t playing 2K23 on PS5 (can’t imagine Switch is any different as probably uses same engine).

With no more X360/PS3, I bought for 2K16 Xbox One (play on Series X). Not 2K11 gameplay,, but still acceptable.

I think what also compounds the issue is that relatively limited units are produced as demand could suddenly waver (like the Wii U), or more so, to not be overwhelmed with warrranty service requests in case of any early widespread hardware failures.

Still take the Switch for about every other advantage.

5/17. Though only fair given the only Zeldas I have even near completed were original NES and Link to the Past SNES.

All kiddie colors IMO (like most of released already). Thankfully my OLED model was available with white Joycons.

And guess maybe a good thing more variants being produced. Could be either Nintendo doesn’t plan to release Switch successor still for a while (just got my first 7 months ago — so admittedly selfish reason), or maybe compatible going forward to next generation.

If were a Microsoft game, they’d be banned from something / somewhere until the year 9999.

Well, in about 250 years between me being kind of a mediocre gamer and trying to catch up with every Zelda game (currently on Link NES after finishing Link to the Past SNES followed by original NES).

Meanwhile physical copies going seemingly for $2M each on eBay.

I have no interest in watching the movie (free or not) until I catch up with all the Mario games. At my pace, that may very well be……never.

I would have made the entire console (including bezels) gold. Looks a tiny bit generic otherwise IMO.

@Chocobo_Shepherd While I can remember Sony memory sticks for PSP going for $100US per GB around 2006.

Paid $45 for the 256GB yellow official card. More than good enough for me (in hindsight, I would have gone for 128GB at half the price).

The new fonts are quite generic and IMO just don’t go with the game. Definitely prefer the old.

Off topic (mostly); standard edition physical game copies are bidding several hundred dollars on eBay US. Crazy.

@MarioBrickLayer I had SM3 on original NES as well (think was included with system), but was so caught up in sports titles, never gave it deserved attention.

N64 controller a bit awkward (but sadly kind of required to play a few such games on Switch). The Wii remote / nunchuck combo even more so. Joycons (attached or ‘gripped’) don’t bother me.

Most others pretty basic for respective generation.

Like games, can’t say I have a clear favorite.

Super Mario Bros 3 NES (Switch Online)

FFVII on PS1. Bought the game on release, plus the Bradygames paperback guide.

Did everything in the game (including properly mixing all chocobos), except for some reason fight the final boss, Sepiroth. Oddly self-stalled out at that very end.

Still backlogged with so many retro games. Right now playing Super Mario 3 NES, and about to start original Metroid. (Contemporarily, also playing MLB 23 on Xbox.)

What about the digital Virtual Console games I bought on the first Wii? Easily paid over $100 US for such and essentially now paying again with Switch Online / Expansion Pak.

(I never had Wii U, nor any DS so don’t know if would have carried over and furthermore still recognized.)

Going to be almost impossible or quite expensive to get this as physical. Guess will go the digital route (and maybe can wait for a sale).

Have $140 eShop credit and plenty of SD card space anyway.

I paid a few dollars for Super Mario Run on iOS about 10 years ago. Only played for a few seconds. Just not the same.

I personally never had any interest in Pokemon. Donkey Kong 64 would be nice addition.

Got my first Switch in November (white OLED if matters). Primarily play handheld. Lucky for me no Joycon issue so far.

Bought my OLED (first Nintendo system since first Wii) in November, and just got the Pro controller a few weeks ago.

No need for me to get either.

Hope isn’t nearly that much for the upcoming Final Fantasy pixel remaster.

Never had any (3)DS (should be a poll option). Handhelds; just original Game Boy, Game Boy Advance and now Switch OLED.

I know soccer is quite popular worldwide, but still quite surprised FIFA is selling so well given has been out so long, and that got (like many in the series for a while now) not so good reviews.
