IMO there is no clear year (just like there is no clear best game of all time). However if had to choose, would be 2006 when the X360 (though late 2005), PS3 and Wii were all finally released. That generation was the most improved from the previous ever.
I bought SMO at Best Buy last week for $37 US. Still sealed (physical). Going to play SM64 first (and maybe also Sunshine as well as Galaxy If I decide to spend a tiny fortune on 3D All-Stars).
I was able to snag one of these, but instead opted for the $20 US more expensive Pro Controller which IMO does just as good a job when playing docked. Just takes a little getting used to.
Too bad they didn’t bring back at least for one day download sales of 3D All-Stars. I would have bought for $40. (I didn’t have a Switch until this past November.)
@JohnnyC I was thinking same thing about GTA3 changing the gaming landscape. However, would say not so much with Super Mario 64 as not nearly as many had played it.
Ordered mine a week ago from Nintendo store US. Still not here. Tracking said “Thursday 3/2” delivery. Now says “Friday 3/3”. But still no movement shown for over 48 hours now.
Was lucky enough to get mine at around 4pm ET Wednesday from Nintendo online store (don’t know how long the window was open). Unfortunately had to also pay $7 shipping 😕.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 25th)
Still Super Mario Bros 2 NES and DK Country 1 SNES (took me forever to get the ‘G’ in Slipside Ride level 😬) started from last weekend.
Also, ordered used from Gamestop and expect today SM 3D All-Stars. Will be getting a self-preview of that.

Zelda original NES (kind of stuck on second to last dungeon for a few days), as well as Donkey Kong Country 1 SNES.

Bought Mario Maker 2 a few weeks ago at Target for full $60. Bought again for $40 and returned with receipt for first one.
Re: Feature: 50 Years Of Landmark Video Games, One Per Year, All Playable On Nintendo Switch
@Dragonslacker1 You may consider cheating, but there are numerous playthrough videos out there of Super Mario 3.

Re: Feature: Hyrule Fields, Ranked - The Best Grassy Plains In The Zelda Franchise
Finished Link to the Past SNES not too long ago, and otherwise just started the NES original. Have a long long way to go.
