Several comments here comparing Microsoft with Sega, and the latter at least finished with consoles.
Seems to be at least unofficially confirmed that Microsoft is indeed planning their next console.
The first two editions of Xbox were quite groundbreaking (even if âcheatedâ with the second, by releasing a year earlier than Sony rival).
While definitely a setback with the third. A smart TV just as good for streaming non-interactive content. (Labeling the THIRD Xbox as âOneâ also did not help.)
But Microsoft still not Sega. Seemingly unlimited finances at its disposal. Xbox brand (if name not changed) console still not going away soon.
While not the same as competing with the smartphone OS duopoly.
Way back when (starting in Genesis days), EA was the go-to publisher. Helicopter âStrikeâ series, âRoad Rashâ, while brand mainly anchored by officially licensed (NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL, PGA etc.) sports titles. The embedded yellow plastic tab on side of cartridges also helped with at least uniqueness.
Now kind of anyone with some skill and creativity can seemingly develop a worthy enough title at home. (Just canât brand as âNFLâ or âSuper Marioâ, etc.). All while (at least the sports title anchor) has lost its prestige with same content recycled year after year.
Losing MLB license and âgiving upâ on NBA also does not help. Same with the latest PGA game (at least with needing to be connected online even when in single player and with full local install - a big what the foo).
I donât plan on getting one until well enough after launch (forever backlog).
But a good bit of priority (at least with buying direct from Nintendo) should go to paid NSO members, while perhaps furthermore by tenure.
As for third party retailers, most / all now have a loyalty membership (Target Circle, Walmart+, etc.). Just send random âticketsâ to those accounts via email / text.
Should be the way going forward. Nintendo can cut well down on scalping if really want to.
Though could see those young enough who began with X360/PS3 and later (when consoles first seemingly had to be online) choosing anything prior gens to be retro.

Re: Rumour: Switch Online GameCube Releases Might Have Been Leaked
Still working on Super Mario Bros. 3 and original Metroid NES.
Does not matter to me for now (even though I have expansion pack). đđ
Re: Switch 2 Remains The Fastest-Selling Console In The US At 4.4 Million Units
Nintendo cult following of course.
Less expensive than most higher-end smartphones and tablets.
While also new in box Switch units can be easily carried with one arm or slipped into a shopping bag (try that with the competition).
All have to do with.
Re: Review: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (Switch 2) - A Big, Bold Reimagining, And A First-Class Port
I had original VII on PS1. Just about finished it before forever lost the memory card đ±.
Now âawkwardlyâ playing I & X at same time.
Have to read up on how âremakeâ, âintergradeâ, etc. is in comparison to the original.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (10th January)
Should be finally beating original Metroid NES (took a while for me).
While I notice Mario Kart atop the poll (perhaps surprising for an oldish title).
Included with my console purchase, though I have yet to be all that much interested.
At least glad to see so many others enjoy đ.
Re: Nintendo Switch's Hulu App Will Be Discontinued Next Month
Not Nintendo, though somewhat relevant.
I had the original PSP and several movies on UMD (essentially an encased mini DVD cartridge).
While whomever now watches non-Nintendo video on their Switch. I can personally count on zero hands and feet.
Re: PlayStation Is Bringing MLB The Show 25 To Nintendo Switch This March
@delanoche I havenât tried either yet (both available via EA Play). But Super Mega 3 seems to have better reviews.
Re: Poll: Is Your Third-Party Switch 2 Dock Still Working After This Week's System Update?
~26% using a third party dock. A pretty big SMH IMO.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (6th November)
Original Metroid NES
Taking forever, though will figure outâŠâŠeventually
Re: Nintendo Reportedly Increases Switch 2 Production To 25 Million Units For Year 1
@Coffee-Waffle Still nothing like lugging around a laptop computer, or even a âfull sizeâ (~10â) tablet.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (11th October)
Original Metroid NES
DKC Tropical Freeze
Also just started Super Mario Strikers (GameCube) which seems a good bit of fun.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (6th September)
Original Metroid NES (just figured how to get past red shields between mazes)
Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (30th August)
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Switch 1 on Switch 2)
(donât have enough Bananzas yet)
Re: Review: Nintendo Switch Online GameCube Controller - The Return Of The King
I never had GameCube (nor yet a Switch 2). So canât give any opinion on respective controller.
But interesting to see if eventually the Wii trio of controllers (remote, nunchuck, perhaps âClassicâ) get similarly reproduced.
Re: Random: Don't Like Switch 2's Physical Game Cases? Try Some Cool Cassette-Styled Ones Instead
I really liked PS3 keep cases (should have kept the same form factor).
Wii and Switch 1 cases also up there.
Re: PSA: Spigen's Switch 2 Carry Case May Have A Potentially Console-Damaging Defect
âzip itâ
In other words, do not staple?
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (7th June)
Super Mario 64 on Switch 1 OLED (fine enough for me)
Re: Random: One GameStop Apparently Stapled Receipts To Brand New Switch 2 Boxes, And Guess What Happened...
The office supply store chain âStaplesâ had a slogan; âstaples, yeah we got that.â
Did GameStop steal it? đ
Re: Random: One GameStop Apparently Stapled Receipts To Brand New Switch 2 Boxes, And Guess What Happened...
@Mariotag More than enough Switch 2 consoles for everyone?
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (31st May)
Super Mario 64 and original Metroid NES
(I am so backlogged, so likely no Switch 2 for me regardless)
Re: US Retailers Are Reportedly Starting To Receive Switch 2 Stock
@AdolBannings-Laylee Wii was released late 2006. I wasnât able to find one at retail until March 2008.
While Target likely giving a worst case scenario in case any unanticipated delay.
Re: US Retailers Are Reportedly Starting To Receive Switch 2 Stock
Perhaps consider starting a âliveâ thread on the site where direct Nintendo registrants can post when receive an invitation.
I get a unit when I get one (will wait for invite), though perhaps would be helpful to know the frequency of invitation notifications.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (10th May)
Original Metroid NES.
Still trying to find my way with that.
Re: Nintendo Of America President On Timing Of Switch 2's Release Date
âWay back whenâ (up until early 1990s), there were no rock solid formal launch dates.
Hardware or software went for sale when retailer got inventory and felt like doing so.
Will always remember visiting GameStop around 2006-07.
They had whatever game in display case and would not sell until next day (âstreet dateâ).
âOtherwise would be a $10,000 fineâ (according to the associate on duty).
Pretty ridiculous for almost any product for sale IMO.
Re: Poll: So, Did You Manage To Get A Switch 2 Pre-Order In? (North America)
@Grimley141 Apples to oranges (no pun intended) comparison.
Can write why, but assume many already know the difference.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Direct April 2025 - Every Announcement, Game Reveal & Trailer
Joycon mouse capability.
Clutter aside (or not), wonder if the motion bar tech required by Wii now considered obsolete.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (15th March)
Original Metroid NES (never had originally, nor had interest then)
Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX (one of the titles I had loved, but never had my own for SMS)
Re: Nintendo Confirms Removal Of Switch Online SNES Game
For all those who wonder the possible reason for removal.
The game features the names of real life players from then. All can take is legal action by one who refuses to have his name effectively published.
Always a potential issue with sports titles.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (1st March)
Original Metroid NES and Super Mario 64.
(while guess no soccer title for Super Nintendo đ€)
Re: Nintendo Switch Online Announces Removal Of Super Famicom Title
@Waluigi451 Lucky you. I had purchased a good bit of retro on original Wii.
Landlord stole my belongings including the Wii around 2017.
Lost interest for a few years after. When got my Switch in 2022, seemingly no way to access old account / âVirtual Consoleâ service discontinued.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (22nd February)
Retro
Super Mario 64 & original Metroid NES

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss On Switch 2's Name: Nintendo Created So Much "Brand Value"
Why not call it âSwitch Oneâ. Or âOriginal NES Oneâ?
(obvious jab at Microsoft marketing)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (1st February)
Working on my NES backlog.
Super Mario 3 and original Metroid.

Re: Switch 2's Magnetic Joy-Con Connection Was Originally An Idea For Switch
Iâd probably rather keep latch rail.
Though just changing something (even if gimmicky) can still be selling point.
Oh well.

Re: Nintendo Is "Very Upset" About The Switch 2 Leaks, It's Claimed
One would think Nintendo lost the intellectual property register of Mario.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (7th December)
Super Mario 64 and original Metroid NES
(who needs 2025 when can have 1987 đ)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (5th October)
Super Mario Maker 2.
Story mode. (completed a few levels already)
Re: Deals: Now's The Time To Upgrade Your Switch's Micro SD Card
Waiting for the SSD speed SD cards. At least one petabyte capacity and under $100 U.S. before I consider purchasing.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (6th July)
Super Mario 64
A bit stuck still fairly early in the game.
Has anyone pretty much completed without using walkthrough / strategy guide? (I still refuse to go such route)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (22nd June)
Still eking it out on Super Mario 64 and âZelda II / Linkâ NES.
Hopefully backlog eventually reaches 1999.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (15th June)
Super Mario 64.
Many âmysteriesâ (I refuse to use walkthrough cheat).
Right now trying to figure out how to attain last stars in a few earlier levels.
Re: Random: Nintendo Of America Appears To Have Updated Its Sign
from corporate headquarters to toy museum (at least to someone who would not know otherwise)
Re: Talking Point: How Do You Define 'Retro'?
Largely incremental IMO.
Though could see those young enough who began with X360/PS3 and later (when consoles first seemingly had to be online) choosing anything prior gens to be retro.
Coming from someone who began with ColecoVision.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (25th May)
original Metroid NES and Super Mario 64 (camera pan really wants to make me pull hair out)
Re: Nintendo Announces Second US Store, Opening 2025
I have never been to San Fran. But does have its issues right now (at least from what I can tell via telescope 3000 miles away).
Also for whatever worth, SF past or present has never been âalpha globalâ market like NY.
Do wish luck.
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's Game Boy Library With Three More Classics
For anyone happening to wonder about (miniscule) file size, these three new additions appear to weight in at around a combined 7 megabytes.
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's Game Boy Library With Three More Classics
@Patendo less profitable to have the âOnlineâ subscriber base finish all the titles too fast then cancel
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (11th May)
Maybe Super Mario 64.
When not binge-playing sports titles on other platforms.
