@Vyacheslav333 People have too much nostalgia. Yes, there's many great fighting games from years ago, but there's also many fantastic current ones and the genre has never been more accesible than it is now. Besides, it's the fighting community that kills games when they don't get DLC. DNF Duel is a great game that suffered that fate. Once they made DLC, which was a year after, people already "lost interest" and it was "too little too late". So not only do people want DLC, they want the kind of content that could have been on the original release as they expect it to come soon. I'm not in favor of corporations but neither against them. It's a business practice and they just give what people want because they are interested in making as much profit as possible. Under Night in Birth 2 is a great game, but they are also making DLC.
@ryan_nil It runs it ok. Stable 30 fps , but a bit more blurry. The first HW is the one that is improved because it seems that frames and resolution are uncapped.
@nukatha Hyrule Warriors DE runs at 60 fps on Switch 2 and looks better. It's one of the games that shows a considerable improvement despite of not having a dedicated update.
@Kraven I think that originallity doesn't have to be something that hasn't been done before and can also be something that distinguishes the game from others including their own franchise. So for example, with Resident 7 and 8 they used first person while most entries had third person view with either over the shoulder aiming or tank controls. 7 used a more claustrophobic scenario and 8 used a more open one. Both changed the zombies for different creatures. Stuff like that made those entries feel different from my perspective. Even the REmakes changed tank controls for the RE4 aiming and made zombies harder to kill instead of just depending on the clumsiness of tank controls to make them more challenging.
Then we have Cronos, which looks like a solid game but just that. It's very similar to Dead Space in both setting and gameplay, except that the combat seems more basic with no telekinesis and doesn't seem to do anything really different to stand out from many survival horror games. From what I've seen it even seems to reuse some assets from the Silent Hill remake. I think that a 7 is a good score. Good game, plays it safe. That's pretty much what it means.
As for all games feeling samey in the genre I agree and that's the fan's fault. I liked the more capable, expanded gameplay on games like RE6 but according to them that "stopped it from being survival horror". Personally, I think that the problems weren't with the gameplay. It was the loss of a scary, tense environment in favor of a more "action movie" one that hurt it. If you improve gameplay, make enemies that keep the scary factor. Make then more intelligent and adaptable. Do things like putting a stress meter so that the character can't aim properly when too scared or things like that. Make breakable items so that you search desperately for ways to defend yourself on tense situations, stuff like that . But then again, people seem to hate that on other games and want RE4 gameplay over and over.
I understand the philosophy of less capable characters making scary games, but I also think that you can have a very capable character as long as you also make a really challenging setting that surprises you. But that's harder to make and their public is against that. If you make all games from a genre with the same limited box of ideas then it starts feeling stale and it's harder for them to feel original.
@Weizsgriff Sorry but if you bought a portable device without knowing and expecting some compromises, you are the one that isn't in their right mind. Besides there's already many comparison videos with other versions like the PS5 one and it really looks great and has a stable performance.
Glad to see that this game turned out so much better than what some people in the internet were saying. Hopefully it's the same case with Borderlands 4 and Elden Ring.
I wouldn't be surprised if the people complaining about the performance of this game on events tried earlier builds. I expect this game, Elden Ring and Borderlands 4 to be better than what people anticipate in terms of performance.
@JohnnyMind As I mentioned before, there is no excuse with this game. It should run fine on the original Switch so yeah, it's a matter of optimization in this case if that isn't clear enough.
As for the dev, experienced or not I don't see how they can talk for an entire industry just based on their experience. It's the equivalent of saying "it was fine for me so nah, they are lying". The Switch 2 isn't even the same as the Switch 1 in aspects like the amount of sales and the architecture of the portable.
It's definitely bad if certain devs are facing discrimination because of that, but it's not like every person pointing out the lack of dev kits rumour this does it. Either way, that people will look for any reason to do it. A lot do it already based on the console for example. The amount of misinformation on Switch and their ports to make them look negative is overwhelming. I definitely agree with you that it shouldn't be happening. I get why you worry about this matter but at least in this case it's not what's happening, I just mentioned something that feels very plausible and that, combined with a lack of optimization, is giving the console a flawed debut. I think that you have seen my comments and I'm mostly positive with games and developers 👍.
@JohnnyMind Bandai Namco has many projects at the same time so I really doubt that every team working on every game has one available, but as I said it's not an excuse for this game. However, the reason why dev kits are mentioned is because a lot of games are failing to meet expectations in terms of performance on Switch 2. Slightly better doesn't cut it. As for all big companies having them, I really doubt it and even if they do, just as Bandai Namco they usually manage more than one project so they have more than one team. Also, the other comment saying that "only small and indie devs miss it" isn't a great situation, specially when some of those games have considerable problems to fix.
I wouldn't discard reports as "not making sense" when there really isn't anything to suggest otherwise and there's many games not taking advantage of the new console. It's in fact the overwhelming majority.
@Solid_Python Yeah, I mentioned that in this game's case it wasn't an excuse as it should be running fine on the original Switch but to be fair, Bandai Namco has many projects with many teams so I really doubt that they have kits available for every project.
Seriously, what's happening? The amount of games not taking advantage of the power of the Switch 2 is baffling and this one doesn't seem like something that shouldn't be running well on the original Switch in the first place.
I guess it has to do with what's been said about the switch 2 dev kits. It's a shame that they prioritized secrecy so much instead of allowing devs to have games at a much better state for the console's release. Then again, in this game's case that's not an excuse. This thing should be running perfectly on an original Switch.
I can see why it got this score. Played the demo a bit and while fun, I think that it needs better performance to be more enjoyable. There wasn't anything that demanding to justify how it ran and the gameplay, while serviceable, wasn't as engaging as I expected.
Update: The SwitchUp review does a good job in showing that the game does seem to get more fun and deep once you invest more time on it. If there's people interested you should check that one too.
Game didn't click with me but I can see the love and dedication behind it. That being said, considering that there's no mention of the possible features coming with that update, I don't see why it's exciting. For all I know it could just be fixing some things or whatever.
From what I've seen, It's more than just a visual upgrade so I'll definitely support them. Besides, I enjoyed Yooka Laylee. It's flawed, but still a good game .
I have to say that for someone that waited for Hawlucha's mega evolution for years, I don't feel as positive as others. I don't hate it, it's just that it looks like the normal one with a mask and shoulder pads on as well as the feather belt (that one was a nice touch). Original design already looked like a mask and like it's natural colors more. I'm still happy tho.
Having like half a roster of invited characters already made it feel like a fan made game. Add this and it gives it a "cheap" attribute regardless of how well they make the gameplay. I'm surprised that it isn't obvious to the people in charge of these decisions. Sometimes less is more.
@LastFootnote Absolutely agree with this. Mega Evolution is one of the best ideas that the franchise has done and it's well executed 85% of the time. It helped to make irrelevant pokemon competitive and added more strategy.
I need to see gameplay. Lego games are (usually) nice, but they feel a bit too similar between entries for me. Huge Batman fan tho, so they have my attention.
@Axecon As cool as Silksong's reveal is I don't think that they are on the same level in terms of popularity with a Pokemon game. Hell, they aren't even playing the same sport.
Kinda surprised that Diablo 4 wasn't mentioned considering how well the others did on Switch, but it's hard to include everything. Also, Digimon Story Time Stranger, which I'm sure that we'll see announced soon.
@VoidofLight The combat is great for a spin-off single player and PVE game, but I doubt that the main games from the series will change to this. Their turn based PVP works great and is a very different thing from their Red/Blue days aside from being turn based. I understand that some people might be getting tired of it, hence why these games are great options for them, but changing the main gameplay would be a bad idea. Main campaigns could benefit from some features of these entries tho.
Pokemon games don't need to change their gameplay, they just need to make campaigns so that people realize how deep their mechanics can be as there's a huge gap between single player and what's experienced on PVP. Tera Raids were a step in the right direction for that but they need to make more. The franchise is great at turn based just like Fire Emblem is great at being a strategy game or Zelda at being action adventure. It's part of their identity.
Mega Evolution has been the best feature out of all the ones that they have introduced since X/Y, so seeing it back makes me quite happy. The game looks good so I'll probably get it eventually.
@SalvorHardin If anything, Fortnite helps franchises stay revelant and have more exposure.
